Is it possible for someone to create a script to convert ext3 to ext4 and backwards.
I'v flashed my recovery menu with unrevoked, and clockmodwork doesn't support ext partitions in their recovery image.

This recovery allows you to convert your ext3 partition to ext4 (not backwards)
But you can easily do it within Linux using GParted
I've tried that.
When i start gparted it indeed can let me format back to ext3, only when i format back to ext3 i will lose my data on the ext4 partition.
I thought maybe there was a option to create a GScript script, so i can run it on my phone.
Have you try to mount ext4 as ext3?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ext4
The ext3 file system is partially forward compatible with ext4, that is, an ext4 filesystem can be mounted as an ext3 partition (using "ext3" as the filesystem type when mounting). However, if the ext4 partition uses extents (a major new feature of ext4), then the ability to mount the file system as ext3 is lost.

PULL the files from the ext4 partition, then format it to ext3 and PUSH them back.

On my phone, /data is being used for cache, then what is /cache and what is it used for?
/data is the data partition storing app data and /cache for app cache. Only Dalvic cache is stored in the /data partition.

Hi
I think that "/cache for app cache" is not exact.
App caches, like thumbnails, browser cache and such, as I know are stored in /data/data subdirs or in sdcard.
/cache "should" be used by market for downloading apps before installing them into /data (I wrote "should" because my /cache is never used...), OTA updates and by recovery like CWM.
Anyone here experienced with system partitions and dependancies?
Im trying to run my n7105 in f2fs system wide.
ive found a few small glitches that cause me greif.
1. if i format the cache to f2fs. twrp cant mount data afterwards.
installing roms works fine but you lose your modem/baseband. especially if its a pre 4.3 modem.
2. if i format my sdcards to f2fs, very difficult to mount them as MTP for pc file transfer.
is there something im doing wrong with cache file system?
maybe you just cant have it f2fs? ext4 works fine with the rest of the system being f2fs.
also. i just found out i can stock rom then restore backup and it formats partitions back to f2fs for me.
no more double flashing and formatting.. yay.
any other tips or tricks when dealing with system partitions would be great.
also. whats the deal with f2fs and encryption being a problem?
M using twrp 2.8.7.0
Phone stuck on cache formatting nd cant update rom same issue plz give solution.
if the phone can boot normally, give it time to format, my friend's redmi 1s take long time while formatting ext4 either /cache or /system partition, but it format really fast in f2fs idk why
but what can i do now
But what can I do now?
I did fix permissions but still stuck .

just try different file system eg, f2fs just to make sure /cache partition is ok, if it success formatting /cache partition then u can format ext4 back this time let it finish formatting, just in case ur phone overheating while in recovery, take the back cover off to reduce heat
M noob so its complicated for me .
How can I do that .. Tell me simple technique
enter recovery, wipe --> advanced wipe --> check cache --> repair or change file system --> change file system --> choose other than ext
just to let you know, i tried to wipe /cache partition on my friend's phone and it take 6 minutes to finish, maybe it take more in /system partition but i didnt try it
I know how to format system and cache to f2fs, but what's the proper way to revert back to ext4? On my old Nexus 6p I could just fastboot the factory image and everything went back fine, but given the the 5t doesn't have factory images, I can't do that.
So would I just format to ex4 the same exact way that I would format to f2fs?
Format data and then change filesystem?
