Anyone here experienced with system partitions and dependancies?
Im trying to run my n7105 in f2fs system wide.
ive found a few small glitches that cause me greif.
1. if i format the cache to f2fs. twrp cant mount data afterwards.
installing roms works fine but you lose your modem/baseband. especially if its a pre 4.3 modem.
2. if i format my sdcards to f2fs, very difficult to mount them as MTP for pc file transfer.
is there something im doing wrong with cache file system?
maybe you just cant have it f2fs? ext4 works fine with the rest of the system being f2fs.
also. i just found out i can stock rom then restore backup and it formats partitions back to f2fs for me.
no more double flashing and formatting.. yay.
any other tips or tricks when dealing with system partitions would be great.
also. whats the deal with f2fs and encryption being a problem?

How can i convert stock 5.1.1 rom to f2fs?
Recovery?
Using F2FS for the system partition isn't really interesting imo, and as you encountered can be annoying if your rom installation script forces EXT4. I suggest you to try formatting DATA and CACHE partitions as F2FS (make sure to backup your whole internal storage if needed) using the latest TWRP recovery. Remember to reflash Glitch kernel after that (using MTP in recovery to get back your whole internal SD data) so your device can boot (as the kernel package will detect partitions at flash time). Good luck !
Tnx, will try.
On N7 2012 and 4.4 android this tool was good for me.
How did this work out? Is it worth doing?
Hi all, I tried to search every posts in the thread of wilson3q's unofficial build cm12.1, to see if the rom supports f2fs since I really love this rom. But I only found 1 post asking without answer. So may I ask is this rom supports f2fs for system, cache, and data?
Below were what I have done before but failed.
1. Flash AGNi pureCM kernel and reboot back to TWRP 2.8.7.0
2. Flash zips provided in the thread of AGNi pureCM kernel to turn my N7105's system, data and cache from ext4 into f2fs
3. Flash latest build of wilson3q's unofficial build cm12.1, then wipe cache/davik cache
4. Flash AGNi pureCM kernel again, then wipe cache/davik cache
5. Flash Open Gapps, then wipe cache/davik cache
After all these, I noticed the System partition is back to ext4 again, is this means wilson3q's unofficial build cm12.1 doesn't support f2fs? In addition, the rom loops in CM boot logo if the Data and Cache continue to be f2fs. Everything gets fine again if I change all the partition back to ext4.
Can anyone help?

In TWRP there is a setting to use "rm -f" instead of formatting. If you make sure this is on before flashing the ROM it might work. I remember doing this some years ago.
Installing the ROM usually formats /system as ext4 but that setting just wipes all files (shouldn't be any as you formatted to f2fs) and so keeps the old file system (f2fs) rather than formats the new (ext4).
This worked for me on my N7100 using Agni kernel (had f2fs support). In the end I stopped using f2fs since my phone would have the "sleep of death" so I had to pull the battery. Eventually this lead to massive corruptions of the file system on /data and I lost everything.
I read somewhere that f2fs speed advantage is not that great on read only partitions such as /system.
Anyway, that's my experience, it's up to you what you do now. Hopefully my advice works in your N7105.

Thank you so much! I will try that when I get back to home!
Hello, I would like to know which are the correct partitions to change the file system to F2FS. Can I flash to cache, cache and dalvik, system, data, internal storage? Or could you please indicate me which the correct partitions to change the file system to F2FS. The rom stock are compatible with that F2FS file system? I think that from recovery (twrp latest version) it is possible to change the F2FS file system of the partition, thank for you help.
Note:my phone model is LG g3 d851
F2FS on stock requires a compatible kernel and modded ramdisk (fstab), btw you can format data and cache (correct partitions) to F2FS but your phone won't boot.

Hello,
Could you please tell me that I must modify of the ramdisk (fstab) to avoid problems of bootloop. I have read in several sites that brings advantages in writing data to modify the System and data partition. Thank for you answer.
I'm on zenity rr latest build with render kernel eas, I'd like to know how i can change file system to f2fs and what it will erase...And then... Is it worth changing to f2fs? Probably this question has been asked many times, but if i found it i wouldn't have written noob in title

f2fs is for good benchmarks in real life ext4 >> f2fs
and when you change the FS the data will be lost .
f2fs makes twrp very slow as well .
I was using f2fs for a month and reverted it back .
Didnt like it
Its very easy brother although formatting data to f2fs will erase everything like your download's/pictures, so the steps.
BACK UP YOUR SD CARD FOLDER.
1 - Reboot to twrp
2 - select wipe and then select advanced wipe/change filesystem.
3 - select data
4 - select change filesystem or format ( forgot which word it actually says )
5 - select f2fs and swipe to confirm flash
6 - reboot and restore data folder
People will say its not worth it but if you write to your data a lot and install apps you notice faster install times over EXT4

yes but...It will wipe only internal not system partition right?
Mate, format data erase ALL.
You only have a empty TWRP directory in internal memory. It's healty for the phone, but if you like to keep data...

Lol, now i only became more confused. If i format data all my internal storage will be wiped, right? But my other partitions will be kept? such as system? after formatting and clicking on reboot system it will boot or stay in boot loop?

There's no major difference you will see in changing the filesystem to F2FS. I am using F2FS on Data Partition on Sultan CM & there is no major difference in real life.

I want to give it a try, if I don't see any noticeable difference I could come back to ext4

There are a few partitions on your phone, just like a hard drive. Think of your /system partition as your C: drive. Your /data partition would then be D: Your apps, the data for the apps, your dalvik/art cache, and your "Internal storage" are all on /data.
Changing your file system is literally formatting the drive, which initializes a new file system. For Windows, it's NTFS, for Linux it's normally ext4. You are basically going to format D:
Got it? Your Rom is on C:, data and apps on D:

About F2FS some users sad that it's better on gaming. And benchmarks (this it's useless).
Other than that recovery open slowly comparing with ext4.
Le
You will see that youre internal memory it's smaller on F2FS.

Ok, now things are clear!
Hello.
I tried Syberia 3 but had some bugs like frozen interface etc and had to reboot when it happened
Then I wanted to go back to a stable ROM, LineageOS 16.
However, I am so brain dead when it comes to F2FS or Ext4 and device encryption.
Can anyone explain me:
When does the device become encrypted?
When talking about F2FS, is it for all cache data and system or only one/some specific?
When you have the famous "encryption unsuccessfull, what should you do? Set file system to ext4? If yes, which one? System, data, cache? All 3?
Thanks in advance, my phone is softbricked ATM. Even the stock firmware trick didn't worked this time ?

If u want f2fs, then all will be on f2fs..if u want ext4, then only data pertition will be on ext4 and rest will be on f2fs
