Basing on your statement, I suggest you browse your music folder for this file named as .nomedia. If this exist, please delete this file. Please feedback if this is working.

Try to install Scan Media or Media Scanner from Google Play to scan your phone manually.

The .nomedia file is on the root of you sdcard, so you're half right. Might want to try looking at it through your computer because not all file explorers can see hidden files.

I started seeing people talking about the continuous charging symbol yesterday. You should probably check in the ROM's thread to see if there's a fix. I don't wan to say it's the ROM without knowing. Glad your media's back though.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus 4.2.1 Can't see all files when via USB (MTP)

I have a galaxy nexus running 4.2.1. I have been having this issue since the update to 4.2. I am not able to see all files when I have my device connected to a pc via USB. When I navigate to the folder on my PC it can be empty or missing the file I am looking to transfer to my PC. I am not sure if this is a 4.2 issue, but I have not have this issue in previous versions. I am able to transfer files via my websharing app, but these files are movies and are over 1 gb in size on average so I would like to get this working. Let me know what you guys think.
Oh I have this same issue on 4.1.1. This is very frustrating. Sometimes, some files even fail to copy to PC.
Overall, the file listing and copy operations from Galaxy Nexus to PC is very unreliable. The file copy was rock solid and even faster on my HTC Desire.
However, I can see all files and copy them successfully using an app called Airdroid, over Wifi.
This issue should not happen anymore after ICS, but try deleting the .nomedia file in your folders, this file tell the phone to not scan in that folder. Reboot, then wait for the media server to rescan, then plug it in.
If that don't work, clear your Media Storage's data (Settings -> Manage apps -> All -> Media Storage), then delete the folder "/sdcard/Android/data/com.google.providers.media", reboot and let it rescan for 10mins.

That did it! Thanks for the info!!!
I am actually still having this issue on my galaxy nexus running 4.2.1. I am running a stock OS and not rooted. I am not sure what else I can do. After further testing I have come to find that I am not able to access any newly created file on my device when connected by a USB cable to a computer until I restart my device. I even went to the trouble of doing a factory data reset. I am able to access new files from my device or wireless via the websharing app, just not via USB to my computer running windows 7 32bit. I am not sure if an app I have installed could be causing this issue. All I know is I never had this issue with ICS. Let me know what you guys think. I am at a total loss with this.
Had same issue not sure of fix but found if i rebooted computer and device when i plug device in again it sees the new files, its like the computer only sees whatever files are in phone at the point of first viewing phone sd folders, so any changes after that arent registered until computer is rebooted.
I think rebooting gnex also helps embed any changes to files and folders.
Its a hassle but it works

Google Music to external sd?

Cant get google music to save all my songs locally, have tried to create a link to the external sd which shows up with my 24gb free, but it always fails and says "cannot download music at this time, will try again later"
Any suggestions?
Are you downloading to your computer and your phone is connected via USB? If so, download it to a folder on your computer, then drag and drop it into the folder you want it to be in on the phone.

You may have too many devices on your account. This happened to me and it wouldn't let me save locally. Just had to go into my account and delete a few old devices. Worked fine after that.

This worked perfectly for me. Let me know if you have any questions or help getting it working. Basically it uses root explorer to create a symlink. Note that the directions will actually delete you google music cache and offline music. So you'll have to recache/download everything. If you don't want to do that you can always copy the files folder to the sd card, then do the clear data, and then create the symlink. Let me know if you need more precise help.

Thanks. It starts to download music then says cant download right now. Any ideas why? The link is created properly.
This whole time it has been getting stuck on a couple songs, currupted files I would assume. All is well now.
So just for reference if I flssh a new rom and create the link I wont have to redownload it all?

How fast is your card? I am using the Sandisk Ultra UHS-I 64gb and had no problems downloading any music. I am unsure why you are getting the error downloading files. When you go into Music and click on 'choose on device music', do you see the free space for your external SD card? If you do it should have worked properly. I've read in other forums that they recommend that you don't let your screen go to sleep when music is downloading. Maybe that's it? I also had this weird bug where music would kind freak out if I started playing a song and then pressed the home button to do other things while listening to music. Like when I went back into the Music app to fast forward, the album art disappeared and the music scroll bar froze. What I ended up doing is rebooting the phone. And that resolved my issue. Maybe a reboot will help you with the downloading problem?
And you are correct, if you flash a new rom, and make the link before you open google music, you shouldn't have to redownload. At least this is my understanding of it. I have yet to try. As soon as Cleanrom w/ Multiwindow comes out, I am going to try it, so i will let you know then. If that doesn't work I have a theory that I will try. Basically, making a link of the entire com.google.android.music folder in the data/data directory. Maybe that will be better cuz there are other files besides the files folder that is created. It's just that the music files are stored there. but it looks like other important files are in there like the database files and others. I have a feeling that I'm gonna need to do this to prevent having to download each time I flash a new rom. I will keep you posted.

As it turns out, I was right. You need to symlink the entire com.google.android.music fold for it to survive rom flashes. Just symlinking the files folder does save the music files to your external sd card but other needed files like database and what not are still on the internal card and therefore flashing a new rom deletes those essential files. So try symlinking the entire com.google.android.music folder. It worked for me and if you flash a new rom remember to remake the symlink before opening Google Music.
*EDIT*
It appears symlinking the entire com.google.android.music folder only worked temporarily. After a while I noticed my Play Music app just disspeared from my drawer. I had to delete the symlink and copy the folder back over to my internal storage and reboot to get it to come back. Hmm. I think the only thing you can really do is symlink the files folder only so that way the large music files do get saved to your external storage. And anytime you decide you want to reflash your phone, make sure you backup the com.google.android.music folder before you do so. Then flash your rom. Copy that folder back to your internal storage and recreate the symlink for your files folder. That should do the trick.

A lot of apps for some reason can't detect the sd card on s3 such as titanium backup. Probably cuz smasung decided to name the internal memory /sdcard so apps automatically detect that as the sd card.
All I can suggest is maybe move your songs to your internal memory or try some other apps.

Problem maybe with rom you have installed. Did you try running on TW rom? Check if you have .nomedia file in folder with your music. If you do just remove. Let us know.. Can you see external card in any file explorer "root explorer" etc.. Can you see external card if you connect phone to your PC/Mac ?

I think other players may have compatibility problem with rom 4.2.2 There is no other explanation if you can see all drives in other player, explorer or in computer
Deviant 4.2.2 didn't give me any problems with accessing music on my external SD.
Again I'll ask. Did you open the freakin settings and point the app to the MUSIC folder on your external SD card?!
If you did, then let us know what model SD card you have and what your folder hierarchy is.

I guess the cleaner app removes it but there is no option to add them to exceptions and there is also no option to turn off auto clean.
This is a very annoying problem and I'm tired to download all my music and pictures over and over again so how can I solve this?

Maybe your device has something like "storage manager" active?
Go into settings and then storage, see if you find something suspicious.
Uninstall or disable cleaning app... you really need to play with your device more.
That cleaner app sounds more like malware

I've found out that Cleaner is useless and is just a waste of space so I removed it.
I hope my problem is solved.

I've made a screenshot of the Storage page.

I don't know if it is suspicious but Other is 8,61GB
Removing Cleaner didn't solve my problem.
I download my music from Google Drive and all music downloaded from there is gone now.
The songs that I didn't download from Google Drive aren't removed.
The most of the pictures are removed too, but some didn't.

Well If so, have a look at gdrives settings.
Also: Are gdrive files in another folder than those not being removed?
Could be malware... you know odd behavior.
The OS or an app may have been corrupted.
A factory reset be a good idea at this point.
Self destructing files aren't normal.
Is it just Google stuff that's vaporizing?
If so maybe deleting/recreating your Google account might solve it.
I'm leaning towards a full nuke of that OS though.
I don't trust Google with any of my data management other than Gmail. I backup and load everything from the SD card, flash stick and hdds.

True, could be malware.
A malware checking app would be a first step. If you can run adb on your computer you can check for modifications made on the file system (as you operate as "shell" instead of "root" (unless you are rooted) you won't be able to read everything. Actually you'll get "access denied" very often. But if you find system directories/files with another date then the 'standard recovery date' this could be a sign for malicous activity)

There's another possibility, a malware jpeg.
I ran into two in the last 15 years, one a year ago on my N10+. Downloaded from a site into the download folder it corrupted many files in that folder. Some only had damage to the file name and were easily repairable, some were not.
Deleted all I couldn't repair or was in doubt about especially the tainted jpeg.
If that jpeg would have been moved to another folder the same thing would have happened.
The only way to stop this type of malware is to find the infected jpeg. It may not show up on many or any virus/malware scans. I found this one because I noticed the damage immediately after viewing it in downloads. If one one these gets in your database they are little nightmare. One reason I keep downloads in the Download folder for examination, especially jpegs, are these little nasties.
Not real common but they're out there.

I've done a factory reset earlier but it didn't solve the issue.
All music and the most of the pictures downloaded from Google Drive are removed all the time.

I'll check for malware and I'll let you know what the results are.

All my pictures are in the .jpg format
Create a folder in the root directory (not in any other folder) of your storage
In this folder create another two folders - one for music & one for pictures
Move all pictures & music to these folders
This will eliminate sync from apps deleting anything as they shouldn't have access to these folders
If they are still being deleted after this then the user is telling an app to delete them (intentionality or unintentionally)

Since you said you did a factory data reset there must be an app somewhere which is responsible for that.
I would check Google Drive – I don't even have a google account so I can't check it, but maybe GDrive is deleting files automatically.
Is it ONLY GDrive files being deleted?

I've looked at the Gdrive settings, but I couldn't find anything related to the problem.
The Gdrive files are on Google Drive and those not being removed and removed are in my internal storage.

Only files downloaded from Gdrive are deleted.
Files downloaded from other places aren't deleted.

And GDrive downloads them into Downloads folder?
If not you could try to move these things into another folder and see whether they will be deleted again or not.
