Email app question - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Not too long ago I flashed my phone with the CM10 nightly builds and just noticed that my email app had lost a feature.
With a rooted stock ROM, I was able to press the dates on emails I get for my work schedule and they would bring up a new calendar event.
Is this something that was lost with the stock ROM? Or was this a feature with the S Planner calendar app? If there was a way to recover this it would do wonders.

Sounds like a feature of the Samsung e-mail app. (And before you ask, there's an approximately 0% chance that youll ever see any of the stock Samsung apps ported to any AOSP-based ROM. They all depend on Samsung's TouchWiz UI framework.)

[Q] Non TW4 launcher

Hi If I use Go Launcher or LP do i lose any built in functionality apart from not getting email counts ( stopped working for gmail anyways in TW4) , sms etc? Is there a way to get those counts in Go Launcher?
LP has that feature.

GMail counts stopped working for everyone because Google changed the API and no longer allows 3rd party apps to query the GMail database.
On my Moment, I've fixed that problem by deleted the updated GMail and replacing it with an older version. LP now happily displays my new mail count.
Once we get root, we should be able to do the same with the ET4G.

Works for K9 so it can work for any and all emails as long as you use K9. I do so it works perfect
It use the following counts:
Text Messages
Missed Calls
Unread GMail
Unread K9
Unread Facebook Messages

[Q] Simple Stock SMS Question

Afternoon all, quick question I can only find mixed answers on:
I am using Go SMS and would like to free up RAM by removing/freezing stock SMS. Does it make a difference whether it's uninstalled or frozen?
(Of course, I know the difference between the two functions but am wondering if somehow one or the other can have adverse effects on messaging.)
I would like to test it myself but am hoping the answer already exists - unfortunately I can't wait around all day to test if it works correctly.
Go SMS needs the stock app to function, in fact I believe all of them need the stock app. Sucks, but that's how it works.

I think this is true, because all the 3rd party apps do is let the SMS app take in the messages, then grab them and re-display.
Go SMS actually has a setting for stock sms un- installed, its under important tips in the advanced settings. The ROM I use actually has an option to not install the stock one from the off. (ILWT CM7) although I'd imagine a sense ROM might be tricky.

Nexus 4 replacement Apps list

Hey everyone,
I have been going through the apps list of apps I have previously used or bought. I am getting to find replacements for contacts, dialer, messenger, email and whatever else.
I believe the extra power and memory we have really opens up some options some of us really did not have before with lesser phones.
So can we come up with some replacements that will work well with this phone? Some general instructions on set up and a link would be great if possible.
Still loving my Nexus 4!!! Still cannot believe I paid more for my last phone which was Galaxy S Plus.. I am so happy with this!! Now I just need to tweak a few things, mainly my email and contacts.
Thanks all!!!! I'm glad to know that I am not the only one that is obsessed with tech..

Oh well, it was worth a shot. I really need a replacement for my contacts and dialer.

Are you looking for a 3rd Party replacement app, like this? https://play.google.com/store/apps/...1bGwsMSwxLDMsImNvbS5qYmFwcHMuY29udGFjdHBybyJd

I had to go back to stock sms app because gosms won't send a mms for me
Try Handcent...
BTJ
Handcent user here also. Best and only app i use for messaging!!
Yeah, I have used those in the past actually. Ideally I would love something that manage contacts a little better and ties in with messenger and dialer.
Stock isn't bad really but I just think there is better and I wanted opinions. Some of the noon stock replacements really use tools of battery. Something that sips memory and battery is a requirement for me.
Thanks for the opinions dudes

How about exDialer? I used to use it before I had the N4. App includes a "search based" dialer and contacts.
I'm fine with all the stock apps

I just wish google would add T9 dialing. That's the sole complaint I have about the stock apps.
replaced chrome w/ aosp browser
replaced email with enhanced email
replaced mms and voice with black inverted gapps
I really like the way gmail and the other stock email program sync with the phone. Contacts, etc are synced right when you add an account.
My issue at least regarding email is that I have many, many many accounts. I need to have at least 20 of them on my phone. This means multiple gmail accounts and multiple accounts on the other email program. I hate having to have 2 email programs running.
I have tried and bought many of the email apps, enhanced, IMO, k9, and the others but none of them worked well with this many accounts. Also, I need to have my email contacts synced like the stock apps.
My requirements are an email replacement that syncs contacts and can run multiple imap and pop accounts.
Battery life is also a major concern with this many accounts. Right more do not have these accounts auto syncing or pushing. I refresh manually. The problem with this is that I miss important emails.
As for the rest of the replacements I guess I am just looking to see of there is anything better than the stock dialer/contacts/mms.. The important thing for me is that all of these apps really have to work together. Dialer, contacts, mms, email... these all need to work as one. Is there as replacement that does this?
Thanks all

I used to like go sms but it just got bloated with themes and such. Back to stock with a dark theme

I'm using this Inverted Holo version of MMS with quickreply on AOKP. It should be compatible with any custom ROM I think. Looks beautiful and great functionality as well. check it out.

[Q] Stock JB/ICS email app on Note II

Hello all!
I have just got my Note II 4G yesterday and I am loving it. What I am not loving is the stock samsung email app for my work exchange. As well as looks, etc (which i could overcome), once I have set up my account I cannot plug into my PC and transfer files due to Security policy. I have been using the JB stock email on my Galaxy Nexus and have not had a problem.
If I cannot get the stock app on my phone, can anyone recommend an app that works similar to the stock JB one, particularly with syncing contact and calender into the Google contacts/calendar apps?
I am currently not rooted, but not against root, but don't really want to change my firmware
Thanks
Try AquaMail, is the one that I use and is very similar to the stock JB email app.

AOSP Messaging and Contacts instead of Touchwiz

So I have successfully rooted my GS3, and I am beginnign to realize just how much the Touchwiz SMS and Contacts app suck. In fact, most of their apps suck, but I'm a little Weary of flashing AOSP or AOKP roms.
How do I replace the stock SMS and Stock Contacts app with the AOSP ones? I dont really want to flash them unless nessesary. I'm mostly doing it for the inverted AOSP MMS. Albeit I am open to completely wiping touchwiz off my phone for good.
Camera App wise I will be fine, there are a couple apps on the market that do what I need them to "Panoramics and stuff"
AOSP Messaging in my signature.

Thanks! So even without the AOSP Conacts app this will still work with my normal touchwiz components (Even though I hate touchwiz)
May look into getting the GS4 Nexus edition when its released.
Correct. The only issue this mod has with TW contacts is that if you touch your own contact picture in a message thread, Contacts will FC. Easy enough to avoid, I honestly forgot it happened until you asked about Contacts lol.

So it doesnt occur with any other contact picture, but your own.
Huh, what an odd bug.
I suppose if need be I can attempt to find the AOSP Contact app. If its even safe, but that bug isnt that huge, I'll just remember not to be so egotistical and not click on my user picture so much
