Make sure it's the unlocked GSM version, which can be used with any GSM provider. The CDMA versions are locked to their respective provider, as far as I know.
If it's an i9250, which is unlocked and GSM, you can use it with any prepaid GSM carrier like Straight Talk, T-Mobile, etc. etc. etc. These models don't have any branding on the back, so it just says "Google" and "Samsung". Although I'd be wary of buying it unless he has an active SIM to test in it to make sure everything's OK.
If it's a Sprint or Verizon model, don't bother with buying it to try and flash it to another prepaid CDMA carrier. Just buy a GSM model.

Hi there,
If I were to buy a G2 and get it unlocked, would it work perfectly on the AT&T wireless network? AT&T doesn't really have any great Android phones, so I really want this one! Thanks!
You can unlock it and use it on att however you only get to use edge. No 3g. I used my old adp1 on att for over a year. Edge is fine for normal stuff like maps and gps. As long as you got wifi for everything else you will be fine. Fyi i switched to tmobile a few months back cheaper and faster service imo. Coverage not as good though.

I also have another question. I am thinking buying this phone from T-mobile retail store. Since I am with AT&T do I need to be a T-mobile subscriber to purchase a G2 from there retail store?

You do know its a $600 phone right? Outright that is. You're better off finding someone selling one.
Yea like the above post.... the only reason i would buy it at tmo full price it to get phone ins.

Don't buy a G2, but a NAM model Desire Z, e.g. from Bell. Then you can unlock it and it will have the right bands to work on 3G on AT&T.

That's right. You want the NAM version of the DesireZ, or the A7275. Paying $500 for the G2 that only works on EDGE is a bad idea, when you can pay $600 for the Desire Z NAM that will have 3G on ATT. Buy it unlocked, or unlock it yourself.
Mine is in the mail, and scheduled to arrive tomorrow!
Can an unlocked Dinc2 work on AT&T or T-Mobile? I don't want to face the same situation like with the Droid Pro or Droid 2 Global you know.
probably not. they might work as a phone, but not for data. i'm pretty sure the 3G bands are different.
Well you "can", but people found out the carrier (AT&Tmo) is responsible for blocking your phone. They want you to buy their phones
sent via rooted Droid Incredible 2
Apparently it can but only on the EDGE network
One guy on here even said he got it to work with TMobile, post #5: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1066953
I'm pretty sure I would be the guy that they reference to be able to get it to work all you have to do is insert your sim card and manually change the apns. I got it to work fine on Tmobile
Edit: every time you switch from Tmobile to Verizon or visa versa it will make you re sign in most every account on your phone

got Dinc2 for wife last week, may swap with her as I travel in areas with no Verizon, as well as foreign, so I can use GSM. Has anyone tried ATT prepaid SIM in Dinc2 yet? When I get chance, I'll try it, and use b0gman's suggestion.
Does anyone know if Dinc2 still works on At&t and Tmo with unlock code bought on eBay? A couple of sellers on eBay claims that it will work ONLY outside the US. I really want to make sure because I may be getting a new Dinc2 at great price.
Thanks.
US carriers do work Dinc2

It works inside the US if you unlock the sim. Couple of methods to get the unlock code: 1) Be a Verizon customer for 6 mos in good standing and call and request it from them 2) get a XTC clip and get it yourself 3) buy the code from some unlocking service... After that just go to your wireless settings and set it to GSM and input your APN settings and it should work just fine. Mine works on Tmo. It occasionally acts up and I have to reregister it, but most of the time it works just fine.

Yes. I worked with VZ to unlock my Dinc2 and used a prepaid SIM for a trip to Europe - UK, Italy, Greece, Turkey. All worked fine and way lower cost than VZ roaming. Same situation - my wife got the Dinc that I used to use.
GSM is why I upgraded from a Dinc to a Dinc 2.
Using pay as you go ATT for backup telephone paid $100 for the whole year($8 a month)
How to with no data too much $$$ anyway
S-Off
Install Recovery Root
Install Senseless Rom by Lefty
Get unlock code from Verizon
Put in Pay as you go ATT
Settings/Call/GSM
Get IMEI to register with pay as you go
enjoy!
Just an fyi...I got an unlock code from Verizon, activated with T-mobile Sim, entered the apn's, but I live in a roaming area so I don't have data until I get into T-Mobile coverage again, luckily I have wifi at my house. Also edge service is slower that 3g with Verizon....but not a lot,

ATT works aswell just unlocked my Dinc2 and I can switch between verizon service and ATT at will. Edge only but it uses the 3g/4g (UMTS) frequencies of Tmobile, maybe a ROMed phone with the right kernel could get that working
Moved to Q&Q, if you are asking a question-post in the correct forum.

I don't believe you will get 3g due to the bandwidth's.

I don't know if it would be because of bandwidth so much as whether or not the dinc2 radio is able to pick up those signals.

Hey guys,
I was looking around for an unlocked version of the Galaxy Nexus in Canada, and stumbled on some information that the Bell/Virgin versions were actually sim-unlocked (being Nexus devices, and all). However, when I called The Source (closest store to me), they said that it is, in fact, locked.
Can anyone confirm that an off-contract Bell/Virgin Galaxy Nexus is sim-locked?
Thanks.
Don't listen to any of the workers. They tell you that to scare you into signing 3 year contract or they just don't know. Most of the workers have no clue about phones except what they are trained on.
Ex: last week in best buy mobile one girl told me they had the Galaxy Nexus for Rogers and they were selling them already.... I walked out once I heard that lol

Thats what I figured, and I know that Nexus devices are (almost?) always unlocked, but $650 is a lot to drop on a phone if I don't know for sure that I won't be able to use it, you know?

If you want to have some more peace of mind about the unlocking situation, i picked up a Galaxy Nexus from Virgin on the 7th. I threw my Rogers SIM in it without issue. So rest assured that are unlocked and work perfectly on Rogers.
Unlocked!! 4 SSure!

I also picked my Nexus up but at the bell store. I actually was on rogers at the time, was going to bring it back to rogers. But, Rogers upload speeds on their network (Not LTE) is nothing more then 1Mb. Were as bell i've seen and i get 4-5Mb which is very nice for VOIP calling and video.
They also offered me a cheaper package deal then i was paying on rogers with the same features. And so i switched HAHAHA Never thought i would.
But this phone is unlocked as i did place an AT&T sim inside the phone and it also worked fine.(I have a AT&T account as well).
I used to have the international version of the GSII, and I was able to give the IMEI to AT&T, and tell them that it was a dumb phone. This allowed me to use the unlimited $15 data plan.
My understanding is that this is because they don't have the IMEI in their system since it's an international phone. If I were to buy the Galaxy Nexus from Google, would I be able to do the same thing? Or would I have to import one from Europe/Asia? Not sure how the IMEI thing works
Guess I'll try it anyway
Did it work? Anyone know? Looking to do the same thing. Currently have a nexus one on the dumbphone plan, looking to go to a galaxy nexus.

If you already have the plan, go ahead and try it.
I would like to know if this worked as well. I have a photon which is an American phone but is also a world phone and by default is locked to international GSM. Im about to use the domestic hack for the radio to use this as a go phone. Att shouldn't have the imei in their system because its not supposed to work for att lol.

The general consensus is that only the international gnex's can use the unlimited att data plan. Some how att was able to recognize some gnex's bought from the play store (USA) and flag them as smartphones. There is another thread floating around either here or in the sgs3 forum that showed this.

What's this I keep hearing about people buying phones from the play store??? I've seen this all over. Also would this even apply to the photon? The photon is an American phone that can run on GSM but is locked out of domestic and will most likely never get unlocked for domestic GSM use. So would att log the imei as a smartphone?
Edit: we can use a hybrid radio made custom by a dev to allow domestic GSM but the radio used is from a Japanese phone

Hi all,
My brother bought me a Sprint phone in US and I want to use it in Israel - can that be done?
I mean, he told me that the phone is somehow locked to Sprint, but he paid a full price with no plan or anything so I'm guessing the the phone is probably Sim-Free?
Can the phone be somehow unlocked and used in Israel with all the features?
The phone uses CDMA technology so it can't be used worldwide.
You'd need a GSM phone since those work on worldwide common frequency and work with a SIM card.

Also, you need to get the international model, NOT the att/t-mobile. Those specifically only work with those carriers to my knowledge.
The international model is the only one that accepts a SIM card from other carriers. If you use a SIM card, then get international.
