Are you serious?
The question is: Can I plug in a flash driver to the one x without external power source?

Damn... really hoped it can work
Mods, plese lock...
Unfortunately Onex doesn't support USB otg.
Only USB host
Otg is pretty much the same as host apart from the power can be pulled from the bus of the device
Host means you need external power

You don't need root for using it, do you?
Does this means I can connect a SD/CF cardreader to the HOX to empty my digital camera while on holiday and send the pictures back home (With FTP or whatever)?

A very interesting solution that could work for my compact camera, but I need a solution for my Canon 7D as well, which use CF, and also 8GB isn't enough. So I still would love to be able to connect a card reader to my phone to be able to send the original files to a secure place when I'm on the field.

Otg doesnt require root
Works out of box
As far as I know, there will be no USB OTG. It would be interesting, if its just hardware related or if some DEVs can make it possible with some other Kernel or software.

Whats your opinion based off?
Unless htc remove it on purpose from the stock device, one x will support 110% OTG

I looked for the technical Details, for ex. here:
http://www.inside-handy.de/handys/htc_one-x/2624_allgemein.html
There you go under USB otg.
I have HTC Sensation and this device also does not offer this.

Hmm thats weird, cause ive lookef @ code written by nvidea, and tegra3 definitely supports usb otg 110% hence why i said itll be supported unless htc remove it on purpose.
Sensation most likely supports usb otg, sensation xl does, evo
3d does (thanks to chad.goodman), hd2 does, afaik desire does too
The functions there, just depends if htc include it

Pls look at show-p kernel development thread on the sensation forum, have a look @ his changelog, from kernel 3.0 and onwards, on sensation stock otg doesnt work, with custom kernel itll most likely work
I myself was going to bring usb otg to desire hd (msm7x30 soc device) i chose to leave development on dhd, so didnt finish otg as it was a WIP
A thread about usb-otg doesnt need to be created to have that feature

Thanks for the info. Sorry, but just to reconfirm, was that cable working before with another device?
Because, its a deciding factor for me to move to One X.

Never mind. Will be a nice addition for a custom ROM!
Just found a copy of the user manual. Can't see any reference to it in there either. Odd as a couple of site have confirmed it's presence.
Guess we'll have to get by on the internal storage until HTC release kernel source code and the kernel devs can add it.
Thanks for confirming though.

Oh man dat sucks oh well guess I'll justve to rely more on the drop box, awesome review btw mushweed thanks for sharing the thoughts. Wont be getting mine one x til next week finger crossed here
Was USB OTG support ever automatically supported in HTC Phones? I always thought it was a feature merged into the kernel by any random dev that felt like doing it.

Install HTC Sync. Either that or check for MTP. If you are on Windows, it will recognize MTP. You need the Android app for MTP on a Mac. USB transfer is being eliminated. MTP IS more efficient.

You could find temp root (before a full) on Modaco website or here on XDA Thread [TUT] temp-root using SuperBoot
You can download here r1-endeavor-superboot.zip
But take care, at the begining it was planned for the non retail One X
and about USB OTG, some devs are going to cooking something and including it in custom roms
Delete pls
Theres 2 usb hosts on the t3 chip, 1 is inernal usb host, reading modem as a usb device and the other is external usb host, e.g. reading from usb otg cable
Current kernel from htc is 2.6 which isnt the latest, when htc upgrade to 3.x kernel usb otg will be included

Look through code written by nvidea
Its either otg wasnt implemented in 2.6.x kernel, or htc are removing it on purpose

Maybe because they want to force people to use the drop box integration? Seems like a bad move if so as it'd be good to have otg access for us that don't want to put huge movies in online storage and such!

Possible.
I guess it depends really on how tight deal HTC have with Dropbox.

Eternity kernel
With that kernel you need a powered usb hub. With official JB update, your phone can power almost anyting, even a 500gb portable hard drive work..

Is it possible to use a usb hub and connect usb device to hox and simultaneously charge the phone?
Isn't dangerous for phone?
Thanks for guiding

The best place to ask/search this is kholk's eternity project kernel thread since that's the only one with usb otg support other than the HTC jb rom.

Don't think the OG supports OTG at all sorry to let you down bro, I was pretty let down by that

As far as I am concerned, even stock kernel support OTG, but output voltage is too low to power any usb device so to make it work you have to have external powered usb device.
use a 4.4.2 ROM + this kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2744364

You sure that by default it does ?? I tried to connect my 1TB HDD through usb OTG cable on my stock 4.1 E970 . It didn't worked.
The HDD was powered by a power source.
I guess the OG doesn't have OTG in stock ROM.

I'm not sure because I've never tested. Even on my last phone which had otg support, rarely did I use otg. But 1 TB HDD is not sth you can test the capability cause as I said even the phones which have the otg can't run it.

Well, there's always a plan B. Just use blutooth sticks and install box and register with your LG device to get 50 GB free space.

I didn't even know that Bluetooth sticks exist. Do they work with smartphones?
