Hello All,
I've seen multiple threads but none that exactly answered that question I had, two part question actually.
1. So I have a replacement battery waiting for my at a Verizon store. What are the chances they will want to troubleshoot the phoen before making the swap, possibly seeing it's unlocked and rooted, then giving me some textbook well the problem might have been you unlocking your phone and voiding the warranty. Do you think they would check?
2. If it's probable, I would flash back to stock. Now I've done the unlocking and rooting manually as per suggested and had tons of fun flashing new ROMs, bricking, and restoring, but I have yet to do a full flash back to stock/relock. Will this wipe all of my current Nandroid backups or remove CWM? Or is flashing back to stock and relocking, just like any other factory reset/data wipe I do in between ROMS? I'm just curious of the workload I'd have to put in all to flash back to stock for 5 min to swap the battery, then literally flash my next favorite ROM in the parking lot.
I apologize for the newbness, still learning.
Thanks all.
For me what I do is that I restore to stock and wipe so they have no evidence or what you could try and do is go to stock download an app called bootunlocker and lock the phone. You can unlock the bootloader again without wiping. Then to hide the root apps just install a third party launcher with a hidden apps feature.
Galaxy Nexus-codenameandroid rom
Chances are 50/50. They might check hardware and software to see if it is the problem with the battery or just a phone.
Going back to stock using this guide.
Personally, I would do a nandroid first, transfer it to computer, so you won't lose nothing at all when you get it back.

How can I completely restore my phone back to factory settings? I have a custom recovery (TWRP) and only used the root to delete bloatware.
I have already backed up all my contacts and SMS/MMS messages.
I have no problem re-downloading all my apps from the Market, I can do that, right?
I want to COMPLETELY return this thing back to "out-of-the-box" settings; no custom recovery, no root, no previously installed apps.
Then I am going to run the OTA update to get JellyBean and will re-root my device.
Does anyone know where I can find a complete list of bloatware that is safe to remove, from JellyBean? I know there are some pre-installed applications that shouldn't/can't be deleted.
Thanks in advance for all the help. Much appreciated.

2.Download a stock image (post 2)
3. Flash image in ODIN
4. After phone reboots: power off, go into recovery, do a factory wipe/data reset, clear cache, reboot.
What about...?
I've read this entire thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1984717&highlight=factory+restore
And that seems like it might be easier than trying to learn how to use Odin (I know nothing about it), after I have just learned how to use Kies to achieve the same goal(?)
The only problem with that thread is that they talk about CWM Recovery being removed, but not TWRP. I do not want to mess my phone up anymore than I already have.
Also, I did all this root/twrp work a long time ago and I vaguely remember something about not having my flash counter tripped. I don't know if that was TWRP that didn't do it or something else. Do you think my flash counter has indeed been tripped?
Just youtube "unroot galaxy s3 at&t" and look for something recent, within the last couple of months. The steps are pretty straight forward.

Does this (found several videos) remove the custom recovery (TWRP) as well? None of the videos talk about custom recoveries...
When you ODIN a stock image, the custom recovery will be wiped out. It'll be like you just pulled the phone from the box.
I'm going to root my nexus, but the only thing making me hesitant is if for instance, the device were to fail on me in such a way that I could not flash stock firmware and wipe my private data off it.. I'd want to ensure my private info was wiped.
Say the power button were to fail... and I couldn't then boot it into recovery mode, I wouldn't mind paying for a repair/etc as it would be rooted, but I'm really hesitant about sending off a device with my pictures/data on it. So I was wondering what methods there are to wipe data from the flash memory without drowning the entire thing in water if I were to be left with a faulty device! aha
Thanks

To root you'll have to unlock the bootloader, which will erase the device completely. It's the first step, so it should be almost impossible to get your device unbootable without first scrubbing it.
Hello, thanks I'm aware I'll have to wipe my data to root the device but once it is rooted, supposing the power button were to fail I would be unable to boot into recovery mode.. or if the device were to fail and refuse to turn on I would not be able to wipe my personal data or unroot the device?
I'm just wondering what my options would be if that were to happen ? (Although highly unlikely!)
There are al lot of topics about repairing bootlopping, bricked, etc. devices with most often solutions in different threads. But off course you read mostly about problems in those topics which could blur an objective view. But I pre-informed myself a bit before rooting. Off course there is always a risk, but I think the changes on failure are very very slim. If you read and follow nstructions carefully and understand what you're doing. Also about how to do there are great instruction videos.
Main questions: do I need root, do I understand instructions and is it worth the risk (perhaps losing waranty)? I for myself can not have Android anymore without root and rather buy a new Nexus in worst case scenario. Need it for Ad Away, Greenify, Titanium Backup, OTG read and write, Power Toggles, ES Root Explorer, Xposed with Gravitybox and Xtheme Engine, etc.
I've been trying to figure out methods of basically circumventing the locked bootloader on this stupid device and the only solution that I could possibly think would work is completely wiping all data off the phone and installing a custom BL and rom all at once on a blank phone. I'm not entirely certain whether or not this is possible, though, and if it is, where I would go about finding the images I'd need to reflash the phone. Warranty is nothing to me, as I recognise that my behaviour will result in consequences I have to live with.
So, is it possible to wipe the whole thing and start over, or is the KNOX writelock still screwing everything up? Even without removing the bootloader, is it possible to wipe only /system and then reflash without write protect rearing its head?
Hi all,
I ran into an issue while trying to root my Samsung Galaxy S III. I used a tutorial from Max Lee on Youtube (can't post link) to help me get through the process . There was a step that used Titanium Backup to check if you rooted your phone correctly. However when I downloaded Titanium Backup and tried to open it, I didn't see the superSU request window like it appeared in the tutorial. It was stuck on "asking for root rights..." I decided to reinstall Titanium Backup to see if it would help. After uninstalling it, I realized my Play Store would not load anything. I looked at some other apps and they wouldn't load either (Gmail, Hangouts, some games, etc). I tried logging out and back into my Google account but that didn't work either. A lot of my apps aren't working after attempting to root my phone and I'm not sure what the issue is.
I'm new to this sort of stuff and I couldn't really find an answer for my problem (at least not that I could find on Google). Sorry if this has been asked already! Could anyone tell me what I could do to get my phone back to it's original state at least? I'm kind of afraid to try and root again if I do get a fix for this. Also, factory reset is going to be my last option ;_;.
Samsung Galaxy S III SGH-T999 running Android version 4.1.2
Thanks!
If you can, back up your internal sdcard data. It's very likely you may have to do a factory reset which can erase it.
(BTW, when you get it going again, consider using the free unlock method in the General section. Once you update you can't do it free anymore)
OK, so first, only use what info you find in the T999 forums. Everything you need is here and it's hard to help fix things caused by info gained elsewhere.
Do you have a custom recovery installed? (Twrp or cwm) if so boot recovery and factory reset. This will wipe all apps and data (except internal sd...at least it shouldnt). With luck, this is all you need to do. Reboot and hopefully it'll be working so you can reinstall your stuff. If you have stock recovery, still do this, but it WILL wipe ALL user data).
If that doesn't work, the easiest and most reliable next step is to flash your current firmware build via Odin, and factory reset from settings or stock recovery. (wipes all data).
Then you can unlock and update if you so choose. You can find your firmware and instructions in my firmware thread stickied in the development section. (You'll probably want to use the root66 versions)
If you have any questions feel free to ask. Better safe than sorry. But keep in mind just about everything you could possibly need or want to know has been covered, so don't forget to search for your answers first.
If you still want root after all that, we have several extremely easy options.
Good luck!

I have read threads about warraty but they only deal with TWRP, root and such.
I talked to the Live Chat and they said that one can flash a custom ROM if e.g. the motherboard is damaged due to overclock.
My first question then: If I choose to flash a stable rom that underclocks the CPU and nothing more, or at least nothing that can damage the motherboard, do i still keep my warranty?
Another question: If i delete all data and do a factory reboot, can oneplus see that i have flashed a custom rom Before the delete of the data?
What i want to say is, will it, at this Point, look like i have only rooted the phone, installed TWRP and nothing else?
