Thank You developers first and foremost for a great JB rollout. :good: I did find an issue that CM10 will not configure exchange email, neither with the native product or third party. Clean install of CM10 was performed. Exchange server functionality was confirmed. In the native email program, when attempting to configure, the error message is "couldn't open connection to server". Third party products can configure the account but cannot send or receive. This occurred on 0905 and 0906.
Thank You for your assistance in this matter.

I had the same problem. Hope we get an answer to this issue.
Same error. If I try again, with no active data connectin, the same error appeares faster. Seems not to be a firewall or connection Problem. Is there a bug tracker for cm?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S plus (I9001), exchange did work for receiving but send mail stays in outbox. I deleted accound and created the account again, now nothing is working, it tells wait for synchronasation and does it forever. Wiped all cache, installed ROM again, no exchangemail anymore. help!
I've been having this Exchange Issue as well - it appears to be happening on both my Epic 4g (happened with CM 9.1, and TPR 2.2.1) and my Transformer TF700T (stock JB - rooted). It's really cheesing me off. I wanted to go to CM 10/10.1, but I need bluetooth (so 10.1 is out) and I couldn't get 10 to recognize the modem (Baseband Unknown problem).
It first seemed to happen towards the start of January - I'm wondering if there was an Exchange update/patch that could have caused it, as Exchange on CM 9.1 was working great beforehand...

Hi,
It seems that I have a systematic security error when active syncing while I'm roaming. I did not have this error on my previous phone : push was disabled but I could sync manually.
And of course, sync works fine when not roaming.
I havd read that ICS does support some more parameters for the active sync protocol but what could lead to that error message only when roaming?
Thanks.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Coming back to this, Touchdown does sync when roaming, so the issue seems to be more on client side than server one.
Nobody else is facing this issue?
Hi, sorry that I re-post on this one, but the truth is that I still have this very same problem for already 9 or 10 months.
Exchange Sync is not working properly when I'm roaming... Scenarios are as follows:
- Sync works just fine when I'm not roaming or via Wifi
- When I'd land in a different country, I'd get a couple of syncs working fine
- Then after 1 hour or 2 max, sometimes not even, sync stops working and the Exchange process is emptying my battery in less than 1 hour...
- When I go back on Wifi (e.g. hotel) or when I get back home, that's it, sync works fine again...
I fail to understand what can the cause of this and where to look for solutions or workaround...
As said earlier, I checked with Touchdown and syncs work just fine, roaming or not roaming... But I'm a "stock" guy and I don't want to use Touchdown just because of this roaming active sync that is not working...
Any recommendation on what I should look for? Anyone who would be having roaming active sync working?
Thanks.
PS : I'm on JB stock. I had the same problem with ICS stock and with ICS AOKP before...
Its possible you have a policy on your exchange server that doesn't allow syncing while roaming.
I experience the same battery drain you speak of while roaming. So to save battery life I disable data if I don't need it or sync only when I'm connected to WiFi.
Thanks a lot for the answer. I think I was not clear in my earlier post. My issue is not that the sync is not working, it is that I don't even have the possibility to manually sync and thus access my emails when I request them...
Maybe that's a DNS issue. Does ActiveSync even hit your Exchange Server? Do you have access to the internet when you have problems syncing?
What was your previous phone? Not Android I'm guessing.
That being said, there remain a number of issues with the Exchange related code in the native client. I myself just submitted a calendar related defect that is scheduled for a fix in the next major release. My suggestion is that you go to http://code.google.com/p/android/issues and do a quick search. If you don't find anything then open an incident for this.
If you want to try to figure it out, it is helpful to enable debugging mode since it can show specifically what might be happening in your case (if you open a defect report then you will need this log too). Here's how:
choose add account in email settings and for the email address enter "[email protected]" with a password "debug" (no quotes). You will get a new account named "Debug" in the list. Tap that and check "enable extra debug logging" along with "Enable exchange sd card logging". Now reboot. When your phone is finished booting, email sync operations will be logged to a file named "emaillog.txt" on the root of the sdcard folder. To disable, rename emaillog.txt to something else or delete, then set up the debug account again and uncheck anything that's checked.
Also, checking "Enable Verbose mode" will log detailed sync operations that may be helpful in your case. Be forewarned however, that the log will grow quickly!
At this point in time, the Touchdown client is by far the best exchange related client for Android.
Thanks a lot for the extensive answer. I'll go through it in all details a bit later but I can already say that my previous phone was a Desire Z, so Android as well.

In many cases, the operator/manufacturer supplies their own email client which may have been the case in your previous phone. Nexus is pure Google however. My XP with the native client has been bad from day 1, but has gotten successively better. When ICS was released, I could finally connect with the native client. Now, I'm finally using the native client but haven't seen it in action when roaming yet.....

Thanks for your suggestion. I am not sure about the DNS issue : I have access to internet while I'm not able to connect to the activesync server. I do think that activesync does reach the exchange server. I see no reason why it wouldn't (Touchdown does reach it for example)...

Very good. I followed the instruction, was initially connected via Wifi and did get the log filled. Moved to 3G (still roaming) and so far it is working. It is not entirely new that sometimes it works for a while as I mentioned above. I'll update tomorrow after a longer testing time.
Thank you very much for the how-to on exchange logging... I should have looked for that myself directly
So, I had to wait a bit longer than usual for the thing to start not working when connected via mobile and roaming, but I eventually did get the error :
I have 3MB of log (I kept using the phone for a good while with logging on...) with error paterns again and again but I think the relevant line is that at some point in time I get:
Sync response error: 449
Then there is a bunch of other strange things which I guess are a consequence of this one...
I also have a log for when I was connected and via Wifi.
I'm back from my trip and, as usual, as soon as I'm connected to my operator's network, it does work again, just fine...
I googled a bit the 449 error code without getting to any conclusion...
What would you suggest? Should I submit a bug?
Thanks,
I'd post it as a defect and see what they say.
Hi guys,
Im trying to make my exchange mail work on JB but he only keeps syncing and syncing....I think theres something wrong...he worked nice on ICS
Anyone knows if theres a fix for that?
The only diference that i see between JB Email app and ICS is that JB asks for a port...and ICS version didnt...
Im using ARHD rom...
many thanks guys
I don't have a fix, but exchange works on my phone. My exchange account even requires access to wipe the phone in case of emergency, and I was asked to give it permission running Vicious V5 JB.
I also was able to setup hotmail to sync through exchange.
Exchange works fine on my phone.
My problem is with Microsoft Exchange...dont know why isnt syncing anymore (ICS was okay)
I'm having the same issue, everything works fine on ics. Had been trying to find solutions for a while but nothing works. I'm considering return to ics cos most of my email accounts are different from gmail and they require to relogin to stay active.

Heh, very weird . I found a fix - just make sure the Check Frequency and Days to sync are on automatic AND turn on the automatic sync. Turning on automatic sync for all accounts seems to have done the trick. Hope it helps someone .
Hi guys,
Update: Problem Solved.
I re-started phone, removed all security features and tried to configure again. It worked by configuring automatically and applying all security features.
---------------------------------------------------------------
I have the similar issue.
I used Samsung's OTA update today to upgrade to Jelly Beans and my Exchange went kaput. It's unable to find mail server. I deleted the account and tried to create again, but no luck.
I compared with ICS on my tab and only difference between JB Email app and ICS is that JB asks for a port...and ICS version didnt...
Anyone knows if there's a fix for that?
I am using the OTA updated version without system root.
Many thanks in advance,
hey,
I tried your solution indian_curry but it doesnt work for me. I've deleted and reconfigured the account several times during the last days. Right after configuration everything works fine. All contacts are there. But a couple of minutes or hours later, the contacts are gone. It started a few days ago. But not directly with the JB update... very weired
So are there any other sulutions?
thanks
Just an observation with regards to Exchange support on these releases.
My S3 came with ICS like most others on this site and I had a persistent issue with Exchange telling it it "wasn't connected" as it simultaneously proceeded to get my mail.....
I was PO'd at it, but found a 4.1.1 ROM (BlackJelly), which I flashed and, low and behold, mail worked perfectly! Great I thought!
Yesterday I decided to give CM 10.1 a shot. Wiped the device, installed the ROM and immediately had a very similar issue with Exchange. To confirm that it wasn't just the mail app, I downloaded CM 10.0 stable, flashed it, and mail worked perfectly.
The symptoms of the mail issue are:
1. Deleted messages on the phone do not disappear from the inbox.
2. You may see a "can't connect to server" or something to this effect periodically in the mail client
3. Mail "push" behaviour is irrattic and may not work at all.
Since I'm using Exchange 2003, these observations are exclusive to that platform. I'm not sure whether 2007 is effected by the same problem.
It would appear as though whatever was broken in ICS, then fixed for JB 4.1.x is now broken again in 4.2.1.
Hmmm...not saying this is your problem and I'm running from an Exchange 2007 server, but I had very similar issues on ICS and JB 4.1.1 (could not always connect, flags didn't transfer). After I visited our IT department, they said I was using an old server address that didn't have proper authentication. They put it the new one and it's worked perfectly since.
What alerted me was that it worked perfectly on data, but had issues on WiFi. Any differences on your end? No need to test if you're fine being on BlackJelly; I'm just curious, haha.
Also, CM is AOSP-based, while BlackJelly is TW-based, IIRC. I've read somewhere that Exchange certification/compatibility is expensive and Samsung licenses it for their phones, but on the other hand, AOSP doesn't license Exchange compatibility. That doesn't explain why ICS wouldn't work (presumably you were on stock TW?), though...

Well, I'm the Exchange admin, so I'm pretty sure I'm using the right address
I should probably clarify a little.
It works fine on IOS devices.
It worked fine on the stock ICS ROM that came on my phone and all of the updates until the last one before JB. IE, the last ICS update that Samsung rolled out broke Exchange in the manner depicted.
At this point, I rooted the phone, installed JB and bam, all was working perfectly again. It continued to work fine on every release of BlackJelly. And this is for both WiFi and 3G/4G, behaviour is normal.
Getting an interest in 4.2.1, I grabbed the M release of CM 10.1 and flashed that. Immediately I noticed I was having an Exchange issue that was similar to the one I was having with the last release of ICS pushed from Rogers. Wanting to ensure that it was the ROM, I wiped and flashed CM 10, which worked perfectly fine.
So I wiped the phone and went back to BlackJelly.

It appears to work fine in the 4.1.1 releases.........
And that doesn't explain "push" mail not working in ICS or 4.2.1.
I found the info in the Enhanced Email forum.
I posted that all my accounts were fine except for my Live account.
The dev told me to disable HTML. So I did, and suddenly my Live started working properly again. The problem is only in 4.2 ROM's and Exchange 2k3 afaik. I never had the problem on 4.1.1 or 4.1.2.
Push works fine in my Hotmail & Gmail accounts.
And now in my Live also, after disabling HTML emails.

Just so I understand this correctly:
You were having the EXACT same issue as me? Push wasn't working, but fetch was (Exchange 2003 account) and deleted items were not disappearing out of your desktop Inbox when you deleted them from the phone? And disabling HTML mail fixed this?
Wiped and re-installed 4.2.1 again and magically it works properly????? WTH?????
Anyway, looks like problem solved itself......
Hi,
I have a Koodo Galaxy S2X and for the last week I've been trying the great JB roms presented here. I really like JB and would want to use one of the rom as my DD, but I've been having the same problem with all the JB roms I've tried (4.1.x and 4.2.x).
I use Touchdown to read my Hotmail account and it is configured to use push. The problem is that when on 3G, I can see in Touchdown logs that the push thread times out every 30 sec (server failed to respond) and TD is constantly connecting back. It uses a lot of battery, maybe 10% per 1-2 hours. This problem does not occur when using WIFI. I don't have the problem either with ICS roms, TD barely uses any battery power and I can see in the logs that nothing times out.
Another thing I see with JB roms is that if I don't use the phone for a couple of minutes and then open the Google Play store, it will show me "No Connection" with a "retry" button. I press the button a couple times and it finally loads the store.
What I've tried so far:
- First, I use TWRP V2.4.0.0
- I tested different roms, including SlimStar V2.2, AOKP 4.2 build 3, All Star slimbean and SUPERLITE CM10.
- I played around with the Sync button, tried on and off but changes nothing
- I installed the stock Koodo radio over slimstarV2.2 but it didn't changed anything
- Tried Touchdown for smartphone, Touchdown HD and a beta version but they all have the same behavior in JB.
- Each time I flash a rom, I wipe everything (cache, davlik, Factory reset and System)
I'm kind of desperate, I've searched the forums for nearly a week now in order to solve this problem but I don't find anything. I can't believe I'm the only one with this problem??
If anyone has a clue please tell me! Thank you very much!

Yes but the main reason I use a third party email app is because I use folders in Hotmail and I want to see unread mails from all folders in a unified list. I searched this option in the stock email app but I can't find that feature. I have to manually select each folder to see the content.
I just tried Enhanced Email and it has the same problem as Touchdown. I see exceptions in the logs saying "Server failed to respond". So I think it's definitely a rom issue since it works flawlessly with ICS (Koodo V4.04 stock and Koodo 4.04 V5 optimized rom from ptmr3) with the same radio. But I would like to know if someone else has the problem to rule out the possibility of a problem with my phone.
Thanks
Edit: Looked again in the logs and I can see that the "Target server failed to respond" exception is happening when the app sends a ping to the activesync server. The other connections seem to be working well though.
More info from the Enhanced Email log file:
In wifi mode:
- The app sends a ping to the activesync server with a timeout value of 470sec
- 470sec later, I see "Ping response: 200" and a ping status of 2
Then the operation continues connectly
In 3G mode:
- The app sends the ping with a timeout value of 470sec
- 30 sec later, I get an IOException: Target server failed to respond
So I don't know why, but it looks like there is a timeout check only 30 sec after the ping is sent in 3G mode. I don't think it's a script or a mod that causes this as I have the problem with the AOKP and CM nightlies builds.
Anyone has a clue?
Thanks
Hi,
Just to say that I tried the latest AOKP 4.2.2 build (jb-mr1 Build 5) tonight and the problem is now fixed!! I don't see any "No Connection" message in Google Play and the push timeouts are gone!
Now hopefully the fix will be integrated to the CM roms too.
[Q] Mail App "username or password incorrect too many simultaneous connections" error
Yesterday I flashed AOKP JB 4.2.2 milestone, and since than I been having problems with my mail app
I use the standard mail app on my Galaxy Nexus, and when I try to add my Gmail account to it, it gives me the error "username or password incorrect too many simultaneous connections".
I have been searching the web for solutions, but nothing helped.
I logged out of all the active sessions, I changed the IMAP settings, etc...
But nothing seems to work...
Is there anybody else that is having this problem or anybody who knows a solution?
same here... but on CM10.1...
as I saw, others experimented it too...
1. remove mail account
2. wait, restart
3. add email account again...
