LG Optimus G E973 vs Samsung Galaxy S III I9300: Which Android phone would you choose?
LG has recently announced its latest upcoming Android smartphone, the LG Optimus G E973, along with the LG Optimus L9. The Optimus G is LG’s flagship smartphone and will go head on with Samsung Galaxy S3, HTC One X and the upcoming iPhone 5. VS.
The LG Optimus G is powered with the latest Snapdragon S4 Pro quad core processor clocked at 1.5GHz with Andreno 320 as its GPU processor. Later we will compare the Snapdragon S4 Pro’s performance with Samsung Exynos 4412 quad core processor. It also sports a 13 megapixel rear facing camera and a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera.
It’s built with a large 4.7-inch True HD-IPS+LCD display paired with the G2 Touch Hybrid Display. With the new technology, the LG Optimus G consumes lesser power compared to a Super AMOLED display. LG plans to release it on the market initially running on Ice Cream Sandwich, but a Jelly Bean update will surely follow. The rest of the specs can be seen at the table below.
LG Optimus G vs Samsung Galaxy S3 Specifications
As you can see in the table above, the LG Optimus G has some advantage over the Samsung Galaxy S3. First, it has a slightly powerful CPU (benchmarks below), bigger and better display, much larger memory size and a Jelly Bean update is expected to follow soon. Although Samsung will most probably provide a Jelly Bean update on the Galaxy S3 too.
Why did I say that the LG Optimus G display is better than the Samsung Galaxy S3? Although it’s smaller by a mere .1-inch, the pixel per inch density ratio is much higher compared to the SGS3′s ppi (318 vs 306). LG also claims that the new display technology consumes as much as 70% less power compared to a Super AMOLED display. And I’m not really a Super AMOLED fan, since the color tends to become over-vivid and can sometime be extraneous to the eyes.
Snapdragon S4 Pro vs Exynos 4412 Quad Core Processor
Now, how does the CPU of the LG Optimus G par with Samsung Galaxy S III’s processor? VR-Zone has posted some benchmarks done by Tweakers.Net comparing the high end mobile processors currently found in the market. Please refer to the tables below:
The table above shows that the Snapdragon S4 paired with Adreno 320 yields better results compared to Exynos 4412 and Mali 400. Don’t get me wrong, both of these processors are great, in fact they even yield better results compared to NVIDIA Tegra 3. But we see more potential in the CPU and GPU of the LG Optimus G vs Samsung Galaxy S3.
Since the new Optimus G is built with an impressive and powerful CPU+GPU, let’s just hope that it doesn’t have overheating issues like the HTC One X users are complaining about.
LG Optimus G vs Samsung Galaxy S3: Conclusion
Based on the specifications alone, I’d go for the LG Optimus G E973. It’ has a (slightly) better specs compared to its competitor. Of course there are other factors that still need to be considered before we can really decide who the winner smartphone here is.
We haven’t compared LG Optimus G’s price since it’s still undisclosed as of to date. We also need to look at the camera (photo and video) quality. It’s doesn’t mean that the 13MP camera is better than the 8MP camera, until we see the actual images and videos.
We also need to look at the apps and other features that the LG Optimus G offers. If all this things will somehow be generally better than Samsung Galaxy S3, LG might have a chance to grab the consumers’ attention and beat its competitors.

Dont care about LG. My Antutu score was 14+K @ 1800mhz on S3 but even if S3 is lower i will never buy another LG. Still burned by buying the Optimus 3D. Launched last Aug with froyo, GB came in december and brought with it famous "ghost call" issue (search XDA for this" and was not resolved till 4~5 months. They never acknowledged it initially for many months.
Next promised ICS update was kept up in the air not giving any more info about it then announced it was cancelled. Go their facebook page and see how many negative comments they get on every post they make.
Freaking company with no support on prior flagship models and keep churning out models one after another.
Even if they offer this at half the cost of S3 I would never touch it.

Lol who cares about their hardware, LG sucks ass when it comes to software. poor folks they let their previous flagship Optimus 2x to rot in hell the same will happen in the future too.
And have you people ever visited the the Optimus 4x hd thread? If not just have a visit and then you will know how poor LG is
《tapatalked from galaxy s3》

Even if LG gave me 100$ with the Phone, i wouldnt Buy it. First of All, it Will get JB in a year or so. Secondly Its amazing that it doesnt performance better thinking of it having the cortex A15 cores......

Forgot about OS updates issue of LG they always SUCK. :banghead: but this this new processor (Snapdragon 4s pro) is super fast with 4 cores.

you need to benchmark it with the upcoming GT-I9305.... which has the 4g + quad and 2gb of ram... I think that would probably give it a better go
anyways even when the standard s3 is tweaked it can produce a lot better results...

It's a LG phone. I don't think better specs and benchmarks means anything at all when talking about a LG.

I previously owned an LG optimus 2x. It was heralded as fist tegra phone . However it was plagued with random restarts bsod It wouldn't stay on and the LG support was a joke. Never going back would rather having qn apple.

I had the g2x from LG and promised I would never get another from them. They don't have the devs we do, the Samsung support we do and most of all, I am sure it has this and that but it won't the extras like super oled and the camera like ours!!!
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA Premium HD app

I still try to understand why tech blogs have so poor antutu results for S3...
12500 for me with stock XXBLG8 and siyah kernel (but never goes under 12000 even with stock kernel) and 14000 with 1600MHz CPU and 533MHz GPU
And then LG only have 11300 in antutu with an A15 quadcore!
4 solution:
-tech blog sucks when making benchmark
-LG sucks
-A15 snapdragon quadcore sucks
-adreno 320 sucks

Well said, lg mobile. Buying is easy but when you go for selling you get 25 percent price

No body gives a damn LG suck take it from personal experience they make phone after phone and never update their devices nor do they release the source so people can make cyanogen mod and etc..

I think LG only won in benchmarks
Samsung won all screen features camera user interface
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

It will not be as good as the S3, unless it has features like Smartstay, direct call etc, its this smart technology that sold me the phone, whats the point in a fast quad core CPU if you don't have features like popup play. LG will make it an android phone with no added features, just a bolted on UI. Then they will release JB when 5.0 is out. My GT540 (I know it was a low end phone when I bought it) shipped with 1.6 on, then eventually (looking at 7-8 months) 2.1 and thats it, a life of 7-8 months as far as LG cares. If it wasn't for XDA it would not have lasted me anywhere near as long as it did, with out custom roms it would have been used as a projectile.
I will never buy from LG again, no bug fixing updates, and only 1 update for the whole life of the phone.

Nice specs on the LG, i like the S4 Pro but i would not buy it on an LG! Why because support in general is absent from LG, while specs are nice i don't think the overall quality will be better than Samsung and i am talking about camera, music and so on. In the end the overall experience on the S3 will be better than the G.

Thumbs down on LG. Give me a Galaxy device with the S4 Pro chipset.

I will not buy a Lucky Goldstar. No way. Even my LG fridge has had to be repaired a few times already. That said.
Both my GS3 and my One X benchmark at 12500+ on AnTuTu.
The only benchmark I have seen the Quad S4 score much higher on is Quadrant (around 7200).

That phone doesn't have a physical home button and doesn't have wake up lag which is a huge plus compared to SGS3. It actually doesn't look like a toy phone made of plastic either. It has 2 GB of RAM too, so I can finally multitask again.
So, considering how disappointed I am with my SGS3, I can see myself switching to this phone if the reviews are good.

Alleged images of the HTC Edge, rumored to be the world's first quad-core smartphone when it launches in early 2012, have surfaced via Pocket Now.
As far as smartphones go, this one is at the top of the food chain. It packs a quad-core, 1.5-GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 CPU, 4.7-inch display with 720p resolution, an 8-megapixel camera with F/2.2 lens, 1GB of RAM, Beats Audio headphones, and the HTC Sense interface. In other words, it's twice as powerful as the HTC Rezound launched last week, which hits Verizon on November 14 for $300.
Strangely, 4G LTE support was not mentioned; instead the Edge is supposed to support 21Mbps HSPA+ (AT&T's old 4G technology).
In February, Nvidia announced Kal-El, the first quad-core mobile processor, and it first hit the market in October via the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime. For more, my colleague Michael Miller "dissected" Kal-El and its "secret fifth core."
Last week, Verizon Wireless and HTC announced the HTC Rezound, HTC's first Beats Audio-paired smartphone. It's a 4G LTE device featuring a 4.3-inch 720p HD display, 1.5-GHz dual-core processor, 32GB of storage, 1GB of RAM, and the latest version of HTC Sense. It also sports an 8-megapixel camera and records video in 1080p. For more, see PCMag's Hands On With the HTC Rezound and slideshow below.

Dang. All that stood out to me was 4.7-inch display. That is huge!
I might wait for this phone. I love my incredible still and putting a different ROM on it every week makes it feel like a new phone. Might hold out for this phone if it is on Verizon's network.
It didn't look like a verizon phone to me, plus I'd rather have a S4 processor than Tegra3
If it said HSPA+ then it's not coming to Verizon.

I think it'll have a cdma counterpart that comes to VZW. Hopefully 4G LTE will be included.

4.3 is too big
4.7 is ridiculous. I hope people don't buy these phones so manufactures can start making them portable again.
They say Q1 or Q2, but they're known to have delays on big phones like this so it may be Q3 or Q4, or later. I wouldn't wait for this one if I was you.
Doesn't matter how many cores it has. HTC will find new and exciting ways to make the superphone choppy and laggy through bloat and inefficient software design.
I guess there is a difference if you plan on putting AOSP on it though.

Huh, weird. Because Sense 3.5 runs perfectly fine on my phone, as good as AOSP, with obviously a few exceptions because of how old this Incredible hardware is, and since there's still a few little bugs in the rom.
Anyways, all these ICS phones are gonna be awesome, and it's awesome that this one still has capacitive buttons, so far. Battery life on it should be awesome though, except the rumor that it's 4.7 inches, that's basically close to the really small tablet area. But if it truly does come with 720p resolution, hopefully the rom from it will get ported to the Rezound

The only way I've gotten sense 3.5 to work well on my phone is with the "2D hack" that the rcmix team figured out to make the sense widgets not have 30 different objects to render at once (calendar comes to mind). Even then, there's the dreaded pull down notification lag which is even present on the Amaze 4G, but amplified on our older hardware. Not to mention that despite all this it STILL takes 3-4 seconds to launch common apps like DIALER as opposed to the nearly instantaneous AOSP.
They have good UI designers but terrible programmers.

Quad-core. They should save battery, though nobody's entirely sure with phones. The first quad core tablet, the Asus Transformer Prime that's coming out, has a battery life of 12 hours while using it...plus I think like 16 or 18 with the keyboard dock. I'm not sure what size battery it has, but that's nice. And I'm pretty sure it has to do with the quad core
Sent from my HTC Droid Incredible using XDA App
First, I doubt that's a phone that's coming in 2012... ICS does NOT support capacitive buttons and any Android phone that releases in 2012 without ICS is going to languish.
Second, it's certainly not coming to Verizon with HSPA+. There are plenty of great phones that come out on other carriers that never make it to Verizon.
A note about the Tegra 3... The reason it's going to have such amazing battery life is because there is actually a fifth core, called a companion core, that it switches to when the phone isn't doing anything. Cool technology...
As an aside, when is a screen too big?
My quad core dell xps has terrible battery, but i have it set to max performance with the 2 gig nvidia card in it. Only lasts 1.5 hours.

Yeah, ICS most definitely DOES support capacitive buttons, because otherwise, that'd be a total fail in Android by doing that, considering all the phones that are potentially getting upgraded. It's just common sense. And yep, I've read plenty about the companion core. Finally, a screen is too big to me when I can't comfortably hold, and operate it at the same time with one hand, a nearly 5 inch screen is not comfortable. Might as well get a small tablet if you want that kind of screen size. That on a cell phone is ridiculous. 4.3 is the highest I'll go.

LG Optimus G vs Oppo Find 5

Which one to get, things I'm mostly concerned is battery life, sound quality and android updates - I want it to be supported for next 2 years.

And i don't know why you are asking us. It's your money, you decide. On paper, Oppo rules, but i don't know the brand so well to recommend it. I read it has great quality build, all impressions and reviews were positive,but...

I don't agree 100% with you.
Oppo is on the range of S4 and One only regarding Full HD display, regarding CPU S4/ One are better, and specially ONE as a smartphone is much better (my opinion).
LGOG has a big advantage IMHO, it has 4G and Oppo don't.
But at the end this is a personnel decision for sure!

You know that the s4pro in the g is nearly the same as the s600? I dont agree with you. The s3 has amoled and 1 gig and no 4g and exynos soc. The s4 has the s600 but also amoled and plastic all over the place. The z is on par with the g but feels like crap.
The oppo is bigger, has a hd screen resolution but a small battery with no 4g connectivity. I still prefer the g!

I9305 or s3 lte has 2gb ram and lte.so yea,i can compare.
I said full hd devices should be in different classes.it's like comparing the e klasse with s klasse from mercedes.they are great machines, top notch, but with things making them so different.
This week i'll get my hands on the find5.a coleague ordered it.so i will be able to make a proper review.
Still,i wouldn't change my g now

Oppo and LGOG seem to have the same cpu + gpu, makes them the same, a bulkier screen and an unnecessarily high resolution IMHO to suck up the batt as well as sluggier performance in games due to being full HD, compare and see for yourself !! S4 i9505, G Pro and ONE have s600.. a different lvl

Nearly, but not nearly as close as you think. There's a lot of small changes in the Krait 300 (CPU in the S600) that give it a 10-15% performance advantage over the Krait 200 (CPU in the S4 Pro). And it can run at 1.9 GHz vs 1.5 GHz.
The Adreno 320 GPU is also tweaked slightly giving it another 10-15% advantage.
And power draw overall remains the same.
IOW, the S600 is an upgrade over the S4 Pro. If you already have a phone with an S4 Pro, it's probably not worth it to upgrade to an S600. But, if you are choosing between two new phones, one with the S4 Pro and one with the S600, the latter is a better deal.
Optimus G will be with me tommorow but I still dont know.. I can sell LGOG as a brand new add some more money and get Oppo.. which one has better battery life and screen? I know Oppo one is bigger but what about quality? just because it's full hd dont mean it's better quality..
Bigger screen == bigger battery drain
More pixels to push == bigger battery drain
And there's significantly more of each compared to the Optimus G.
The battery is larger, though (2500 mAh vs 2100-ish mAh). I wouldn't expect battery life to be much better on the Oppo, maybe the same as the OG.

Will there be a G Pro update with Snapdragon 800?

With the announcement of the Note 3 coming in late Sept.- early Oct., just curious if LG will respond by releasing a updated phablet like an OGP but with the 800 cpu. Just curious what people's opinions or predictions are on a possible OGP 800 update.
I know the G2 sounds like the most logical response to the Note 3 but I felt the G2 was designed to compete with "standard" size phones like the S4 and HTC One. I've been in the market for a phablet with my contract about to end on AT&T. I really love the OGP feel and look but I want Note 3's hardware.
Easy, G Pro 2
OG respond from S3, G2 respond from S4
G Pro respond from Note 2,
And G Pro 2 will respond from Note 3
G series = Phone = S series rival
G Pro series = Phablet = Note series rival

I doubt we'll see a refresh of the OG Pro until next year. They truly have no reason to update it. The graphics in the Snapdragon 800 are a big deal, but gaming on Android is not a big deal. Not yet. The CPU, the part you actually use, is not really a big deal going from 600 to 800; not a big enough deal to refresh a phone in just half a year's time.

The Pro won't have a 800 it will have the next biggest thing. This time next year the 800 will be meh just like the tegra 3 was last year. When that first came out it was OMGZ it's so amazing! Then a few months later it was wellll the GPU is kinda weak...... and then the CPU was kinda crappy. It happens to all tech stuff and it's kinda fun to read reviews as it gets older and older.

[Q] Optimus G, Nexus 4 or S3 LTE?

Hello guys! I have recently decided to buy a new phone, and after some searching on the internet, I cannot decide between the following phones (they all have the same price from where I buy them): Optimus G, Nexus 4 and Galaxy S3 LTE. I would go for the nexus because of the fast updates coming from Google and the powerful hardware, but I don't like that it has the buttons on the screen and I would really like an LTE phone because it is more future reliable. I like the Optimus G and the S3, but I can't decide between them. I like both interfaces, they have similar hardware, and also the storage is much bigger. I don't think that the Nexus has enough storage and I am afraid that Optimus G won't receive many updates. I mean it's stuck on 4.1.2 for quite a long...
So, in conclusion, I would like a phone that will receive updates (like 4.4 kitkat) and that has a nice interface and powerful hardware. So which one should I choose? Thank you in advance.

I say the S3 cos it has the most customizability. If there's any thing u don't like. U can change it. Also. The S3 is the best for gaming, has the best camera, and it is more well known. Which means anytime u want to know something about your phone. Search it up and I almost guarantee that you'll find it. Oh yeah. People have started to repair soft bricked and hard bricked Samsung Galaxies. Whereas other phones don't get that kinda support. (Geez I'm acting like I'm in a dam commercial).

No s3 lte. Is worse than normal s3. Nexus4 or G. But n4 has no lte. It's a big deal,i see you're from romania. If you think 8/16gb are enough and you want the latest android on your phone, but no lte, then buy the n4. If you don't care about that, but you still want 32gb of storage,a sturdy device, with flawless lg ui(it's way lighter and better than samsung's tw),with a more than decent camera, lte connection, then go for the g. Make sure it will be e975. Other models will not have 4g in romania.

S3 doesn't have poor built quality, its the material used what people bugged about.
if you are in US, S3 will be a dualcore with 2GB ram, rest of the world its quad core with 1GB ram, left the LTE version i9305 which is quadcore + 2GB RAM. so search your options.
Can never go wrong with Optimus G!

Does the optimus g have good custom roms? My optimus one has very good and stable roms. And if i install a custom rom on it would the g be better than the n4?

Hi,
2 months ago I also had the same issue and went for the Optimus G. I left out the N4 because the 16GB maximum storage and the lack of LTE. Regarding the S3, from the hardware point of view, I don’t think it can compete with the OG.
OG
Slighty better CPU
Much better GPU
Better display (at least for me; colors more realistic)
Better materials; feels more robust
S3
Some say it has better camera (however, for a smartphone, my only complaint about the OG’s camera has to do with the autofocus. It's not a big deal but sometimes it gets a little erratic. I don't know about the S3; OG E975 has 13Mpx)
Lighter (the consequence of the materials used)
Probably better support regarding ROM updates (let’s hope LG has learned from their mistakes)
However, you can always opt for a custom ROM. OG is not as popular as S3 but you can easily confirm here at XDA that you have many options for OG. I’m still using LGOG original ROM (E97510H-EUR-XX) and it’s very fast and stable, even with 100+ apps installed.

Just my 2 cents on the display... S3 has a Super AMOLED screen, while OG has an IPS LCD. People's opinions on the differences are quite polarized, but in my book a good LCD beats AMOLED anytime, hands down. More realistic colours, less "cartoonish". And the display on OG is just awesome -- I have a couple S3 owners commenting on how surprised they were about it.

once you use a good super amoled plus you will never ever want to go anywhere no matter how greater the LCD screen is, but if you are like me or someone who don't like too vibrant colors (most people like vibrant color) newer LCD's specially from LG are very very Good.
also remember Samsung has altered the display of S4 and now S3 via software update to give you option to make is realistic color and many didn't realize this and never tried it.
Note:
people also doesn't know amoled has a very short life span vs the LCD panels, and this lifespan is about the color reproduction not the working life. so a 2 year old amoled screen will look terrible in-front of a new amoled and more than 2 year old amoled will give you strange color balance, many doesn't know this and say amoled is Sh=t.
Samsung set the standard with those over saturated colours. Being the no1 player on the market, the average user take for granted this is how a screen should be like. And the other manufacturers play samsung's game too. Take lg for example, although we have ips lcd,the coulours ARE in fact a litle over saturated. So,mentioning the colours is irrelevant. I would go for sunlight visibility, which is better for lg. The materials, also a plus for g. S3 lte has about the same custom support like our g. And i said it before, neck to neck, the kicks the butt of s3 lte.

[Q] Lg Optimus G vs Motorola Moto G?

Which do you think is better for performance, gaming, general usage/smoothness?
Also, quick other question, the Lg Optimus G, which version of android is the latest official update? 4.1? 4.2? 4.3?
I can get either one, both for the same price (16 gb moto g vs e975 optimus g)
Moto g got weaker gpu. Will always be on newer android officially. Screen better on Optimus G, moto G screen got slight bad viewing angles

LG OptimusG: slightly better camera, 2gb Ram, good build-quality, LTE. Lots of more or less usefull software addtions but uggly and based off android 4.1. E975 has never gotten an android update and most probably never will although it has a similar hardware to nexus 4. 32gb of storage.
Moto G: Android 4.3 and the guaranty to get 4.4 early next year. SoC is very battery efficient, camera is worse than on e975. gaming will be in most cases similar to optimus g but if you want to multitask 2gb of rams would have been better.
i'd prefer optimus g if you don't mind that lg gives a **** on software support. otherwise i'd choose the moto g, it's a good phone too, but lacks of storage and ram.
You mention lack of android updates from LG on the optimus G, I was just reading about that updated officially to 4.1 only, but custom roms seem to get 4.3 and I think even 4.4, that true? Thanks for the responses.
Upgrading from my galaxy nexus, so either will be an upgrade really

e975 was released with android 4.1 in europe, so it technically never got an update.
i came from galaxy nexus to optimus g too, and it was a huge upgrade. especially the screen and the 2gigs of RAM where really great. yes there are even 4.4 rom's and they are pretty good. our devs do a really good job but don't expect a rom-selection as big as on galaxy nexus.
The xda community is great for support. I do not pretend to expect a rom community as big as the galaxy nexus, I thought I was going to change roms and test alot out on my galaxy nexus, ended up sticking to paranoid android, cyanogenmod, and such. So long as there is a stable (daily driver capable) version of android 4.3 or 4.4 for this phone, I would be happy.
Can't compare moto G with OG. MG has other market target. It's aiming at chinese phones..in the 200-300 price range. it will never compete with high end android devices.i wouldn't buy a chinese quad core from a no name chinese brand if i'd had to choose between moto g and one of those. but between og and mg...og all the way.
BTW...this is my last post here as a LG OPTIMUS G OWNER...i just sold mine for 320 euros..tomorrow i'll get a S4 for about 3 weeks, then i'll buy the G2. It was a great time spent here. Enjoy your phones guys. i'll enter from time to time,to see what happens here and to bash those who deserve it
OG always. I have the twice and say that OG is better.

@kimitza, good luck with your new toy (just in time for Christmas, I guess )! Thank you very much for all the support you've been providing to OG community! For me, as a recent new OG user, your posts were the first source of some valuable info. Your help is most greatly appreciated! :good:
thanks,but i won't be gone for good...i'll still help if i can.
I have both phones, and have to say I'm very impressed with the Moto G, mainly in terms of battery power and vibrant screen. Colours pop a little better than the optimus G which is a bit dull in comparison. Gaming performance is similar, but the optimus G is slightly faster. Obviously Moto G is easier to handle in one hand, and sound is more rounded on the Moto G (Optimus has more treble). Optimus G is still my main phone, however Moto G is an outstanding backup phone and recommended IMO.
Motorola G is the best phone on price/quality. It costs half price than optimus g, in my country, and it offers the same on hardware, with some differences.
