Unlock with normal method or testpoint (drm data keept)
Get root/cwm
Find your rom and fitting kernel
Flash.
If you just go first to general selection theres a lot fully made threads about unlocking and getting CWM. (on top, the pinned ones)
Then go to dev. selection so find your rom and follow the guide to flash

I'm struggling to find any guides. I only want to flash so I can get a ROM that has auto brightness turned off as on the stock ROM it's really annoying. Do I NEED to unlock my bootloader first?
Please could you break it down for me?
I'm so confused
You guys can't search? It's on stickies :/

So I don't need to downgrade anything??
In those steps where do I flash CWM?
nope not required..this is the best short cut and time saving + safe...try it and let us know..
CWM is in custom kernel..u dont need to flash it seperately...
Just flash a kernel & you can use CWM to flash a rom
Thanks,
Do I just follow the steps in this link

To unlock the bootloader?
yea..follow that..
All the best

I'm trying to flash the doomKernels boot.img in fastboot, I have put the ARC-DooMKernel-ICS-BETA-v04-lower-boot.img file in the platform-tools folder, I'm using the command fastboot flash boot ARC-DooMKernel-ICS-BETA-v04-lower-boot and it's saying it cannot load.
Any help please?
actually it says

stock SE ICS Beta FW* (i havent tested on other ROMs so i cannot guarantee that it will work on them!)'
so I need to install stock firmware first?

CWM is for flashing ROMs. You don't install it, once you've unlocked your bootloader and downloaded your sdk's etc, set up fastboot on your PC to boot custom kernels which contain cwm.
Your phone won't be blank, just user data(not sdcard)will be wiped. Follow the instructions on the SE site, or here.

How to install latest Recovery?
Hi guys. I have just one simply question. I just unlock my bootloader at my ARC S with installed latest Android 4.0.3 4.1.A.0.562. My question is:
How can I install CWM Recovery on it?? I'm asking because all of these tips were written for Android in version 2.3 and I don't want to brick my phone during using wrong guide.
If it's not a problem redirect me to proper Guide and tools.
Thanks
Like I mentioned, CWM isn't installed, as such. No matter what version of android you're running, if you've unlocked the bootloader then, using fastboot, you can boot a kernel that contains CWM.
Hey guys, big time reader, not so much of a poster, since I read a TON. I will start with background...
Galaky S2 custom kernel Cyg/nightly rom/rooted
Galaky S2 Skyrocket rooted
Acer Iconia A500 32gb rooted/custom kernel/rom
Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10 rooted
So I know my way around. My questions are all relted to my Xperia AT&T ION LT28at (already rooted)
after reading many MANY pages on unlocking the bootloader, I am lost.
I went to the official Sony site and input mu Mime code minus the last digit, and I got an unlock code via email.
Here is my problems, i do not have an off brand sim card and when I try to use other guides with the ericson flasher program, i follow the steps.
1. Power down phone
2. Hold down volume - button while plugging in usb to pc
3. Hold down the fastboot button while plugging in usb to pc....this is the problem....
step3 wont work. the sony code site says the fastboot button is volume +, other sites say its volume + AND Power. No matter what I try, its not working at all. once it connected for a split second and showed the window with the mime (sp?) number greyed out with nothing there and a row below for my unlock key, but the phone disconnected.
So here are my questions....
1. What is the exact procedure to enter fast boot mode on Sony Xperia Ion LT28at as soon as I am done with step 2? Buttons to press, power down etc.
2. I really just want Cynogen (sp) mod rom, do I absolutely NEED an unlocked boot loader for this?
3. I want to enable "Portable WiFi Hotspot" so I can surf with my tablet. Is an unlocked bootloader REQUIRED for this?
4. I am lov9ng that the cynogen mod allows me to add more rows of icons to the home screen, which is one of my main reason for wanting a new rom, I guess this is part of question 2. Is an unlocked bootloader required?
5. Can anyone link me to a nice tutorial for these two things? Installing roms/list of roms on a locked bootloader xperia ion lt28at? As well as one for if I get this thing unlocked.
6. Finally I could really use a good explaination, be it video or baby step by baby step to get this phone into fastboot.
And while I am here, instead of making 4 more threads in 4 areas....
Is there an official (or unofficial) version of Jellybean for....
Galaxy S2 i777
Galaxy S2 Skyrocket i797 (i think)
Acer Iconia a500 32gb
Samsung Galaxy Note 2 10.1?
thanks in advance and I am very sorry for the dumb questions, I guess we all get stumpped sometimes. Afterall I did root 2 other phones and tablets with new roms and kernels.
thank you!
You have a LT28at.....you can not enter fastboot as the LT28at does not allow unlocked bootloader. You don't need another brand sim that is only for sim unlocking not bootloader unlocking.
to answer your questions:
1. you can't since it does not allow unlocked bootloader
2. yes cyanogen requires a custom kernel which you can only flash if you have an unlocked bootloader.
3. Flash the LT28i generic firmware and you can use tethering/wifi hotspot without issue. (just manually put in your apns)
4. See #2 or use a different launcher such as ADW or one of the many others.
5. Just look for the locked bootloader supported rom you want - instructions for installing it "should" be in its first post
6. See #1

In your opinion, do you think that this bootloader would get unlocked? I wanna know before I buy. the same was said about the x10 by Sony but it was unlocked soon after.

Look at the stock firmware downloads thread. It has a guide for using flashtool which is what you use to flash the firmware. Or since you installed a recovery (cwm I presume) you can use one of the prerooted stock firmware. That thread is in the dev section.

Yea sucks about the boot loader deal. I am thinking about selling mine and find a Red H model of the Ion. PA on a Ion would be great and may still be kind of possible. I was recently running The Nexus rom for locked boot which was very smooth. In that thread it talks about per app dpi being possible with the xtheme that is installed. I have not tried it so cant say how well it would work. Xtheme also allows cm themes to be ported as well. Sure it would not be PA but it seems you could close with a bit of work.

Hey guys, as the post title says, I'm trying to install the xperia play z rom, and I'm hitting a lot of road blocks. First one is, I don't even know if my phone's bootloader is unlocked! I'm pretty sure it is, because I thought all r800a's came with an unlocked bootloader, and I also used the flashtool, unlock bootloader tool, and it said it was already unlocked.
So, naturally what I do, is I flash the firmware in the guide (located here - http://www.android-hilfe.de/root-cu...a-play/417392-rom-xperia-play-z-v1-1-0-a.html), and after that I want to root it so I can install a recovery. But when I try to root it, it always fails on part 1. So I tried to install cyanogenmod recovery without it. But after the apk is installed, i'm not able to install the actual recovery because it is not rooted.
My main problem with the guide is that it says to just boot into clockworkmod recovery, but I don't know how to. I turn on the phone and press the up button, but without installing the CWM/X-parts recovery, there's no way I can expect it to come up.
Any help please? I'm totally lost here. I know how to get roms that are based on gingerbread, but for some reason, Ics/Jellybean roms don't work at all, and I don't know if it is whether because my phones bootloader isn't unlocked (even though it says it is), or it's something else, like me missing a tutorial specifically for ics/jellybean roms.
Thanks in advance.

yes, boot.img is inside the zip. Unpack just that file and flash it with flashtool (in fastboot mode). But you must have unlocked bootloader to be able to flash any custom kernel

Sorry, another question. What happens is that when I try to flash an ics kernel, it goes into an infinite bootloop, but when I flash a gingerbread kernel, it works fine. Is this a sign of a locked bootloader? Cause I thought you wouldn't be able to install any kernels if it was locked.

For future readers -
a. The r800a indeed does come with bootloader unlocked
b. It is normal for the phone to bootloop, Just go into recovery like normal and install the rom .zip. (It's usually tapping back while starting the phone, but if that doesn't work, try up volume or down volume)

Hello! im pretty new to unlocking bootloaders and stuff, and i wanted to know, i search here on XDA some tutorials and i found this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1961298
How ever that tutorial covers 2.3.3, and im running 2.3.2 Stock Rom, also when going to sonymobile and following the steps to unlock the bootloader, itsays to dial *#*#7378423#*#* and check for rooting status, my device dosnt have that displayed ( as a side note, i rooted my deviced almost 2 years ago).
However, I Continued with the sony steps and when dialing *#06# , the cellphone does give me my MEID, i continued with the tutorial, and so far, i got in my mail, my key to unlock my bootloader.
My question is, can i proceed with unlocking my bootloader? i would like to install a custom kernel so i can overclock it, to play games a little more fluid, my current room its a Stock Rom, however ALL the bloatware apps are gone now, my phone just have about 12 apps, and its using 80 megas out of the 300 the xperia has. is this good or i can go better with a custom kernel and a smaller rom?also im from mexico, when doing this im gonna need to reactivate my cellphone or something on the company?
Cellphone: R800x (Custom Build.prop To Be Identified in the market as a R800i)
Status: Rooted
Rom: Stock Rom 2.3.2
Want To: Play games more fluid, try to overclock TO A SAFE SPEED. i dunno maybe 1.6? 1.5?
Thank you! C:
Update to 2.3.4 then it will show in service menu if you can unlock bootloader and if you want root then root through flashtool with 2.3.4

You can unlock your bootloader with flashtool. Doublecheck your unlock code you got from Sony. Make sure you have correct drivers installed. Verizon kept the root status in service menu hidden... But it will work.
Yes it will work but as lordomn said check and make sure all your drivers are good then do it and you should be fine

Yeah, thats easy saying lo, but im particulari new to this.. theres alot of stuff involved, for example, im on 2.3.2 stock rom, i made a revocery image using CWM, and saved it somewhere safe, so here are the questions in order, ( if you can answer them in order would be great ):
1.- im on 2.3.2 stock rom, and i saw a kernel named 2.3.3 stock kernel with overclock, can i flash this with my stock rom and keep my stock rom, or i would need to flash first a 2.3.3 stock rom?
2.- when i want to test a new rom, do i need to flash the kernel first, or the rom?
3.- am i totaly safe with CWM and a nandroid backup?
4.- testing kernel is something safe? i mean can i go back?
5.- if something goes REALLY WRONG, can i flash the stock rom/kernel using flashtool?
6.- i found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1605631 wich is the stock kernel 2.3.3 overclocked, but im on 2.3.2, can i flash it and stay on 2.3.2 or i need to flash the kernel and then the room, or first the rom and then the kernel?
7.- can i install CWM recovery on all the roms? i pretty much want to be safe, in case something goes wrong, or can i just use FLASHTOOL, to flash the stock firmware / kernel 2.3.2 and start over again?
8.- unlocking bootloader makes the xperia play able to use the flashtool, right? like, whitout unlocked bootloader, how does people flash roms for locked bootladers? using CWM recovery menu, the update .zip function? im pretty confussed right here, like, i unlocked my bootloader, so, i can use flashtool right, thats what unlocking the bootloader its for?

6.- i found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1605631 wich is the stock kernel 2.3.3 overclocked, but im on 2.3.2, can i flash it and stay on 2.3.2 or i need to flash the kernel and then the room, or first the rom and then the kernel?
7.- can i install CWM recovery on all the roms? i pretty much want to be safe, in case something goes wrong, or can i just use FLASHTOOL, to flash the stock firmware / kernel 2.3.2 and start over again?
8.- unlocking bootloader makes the xperia play able to use the flashtool, right? like, whitout unlocked bootloader, how does people flash roms for locked bootladers? using CWM recovery menu, the update .zip function? im pretty confussed right here, like, i unlocked my bootloader, so, i can use flashtool right, thats what unlocking the bootloader its for?

i think you can find the answer to alot of your questions here at FMA's thread it has a very good Q&A.... but anyhow ill answer them to the best of my ability.
1. im not sure as i never messed around with GB but i believe that 2.3.3 kernel will work on 2.3.2, but why would you want to stay on 2.3.2 when 2.3.3 has better performance?
2. Yes always flash the kernel first then the rom.
3. A Nandroid backup does not back-up the kernel as the partion its on CWM cant see... so if you get a faulty kernel flash or you flash a wrong kernel just use flashtool to get a working one.
4.yes you can always go back from flashing a kernel and yes its pretty much safe.
5. yes you can always flash with flashtool unless for whatever reason you damage the bootloader or the Trim Area then you have to seek for more advanced methods to recover the phone, dont worry tho if you dont accept an official update after unlocking the bootloader you will be fine.
6.i would be safe and upgrade to 2.3.3 using a .ftf so that you dont have any headaches.
7. yes you can flash CWM on all roms, however CWM is not part of the rom but the kernel and almost every costom kernel already has a recovery.
8.no everyone can use flashtool, unlocked or not except r800at models, no thats not what flashtool is for, flashtool is built to flash .ftf files to Sony Ericsson phones, it also has other functions like unlocking a bootloader and other things
if you have other questions just ask and i will do my best to answer them...
