just to point out to you guys, it's POINTLESS doing nandroid backups to the emmc partition (internal) as it's too small...it's only handy for gapps and other small things up to 90mb give or take
oh and i still haven't fixed ADB in recovery i WILL do this when CM10 has calmed down a little
yeaa...and to flash something small received via bluetooth i needed it as i download mods to my pc then send it to phone via bt...sooo u saved my 2 worthy minutes of moving .zip via file manager hehe

That's part of the new CWM Nandroid backup structure.
It makes bulk of it's backups to blobs and update to include changes in subsequent backups, saves space and reduces nand write cycles on multiple backups. Don't delete it when deleting old backups, instead just delete the dated backup folders and the blobs folder will get trimmed by CWM when running future backups. If you delete blobs the individual backups would fail.
op is updated with 6.0.1.5 TOUCH BASED, i have kept the NON TOUCH based recovery up too

CHANGELOG for 2.6.3.0:
-Proper backup and restore of SELinux contexts (thanks to Tassadar)
-Pull in some ROM information for backup name generation
-Merge all recent patches from AOSP bringing TWRP up to date with Android 4.3
-Add 1200x1920 theme (thanks to Tassadar)
-A few other fixes and tweaks
CHANGELOG for 2.6.1.0:
-Initial SELinux support (only a few devices, need testers so come by IRC if your device doesn't have it and needs it)
-Initial support for f2fs file system formatting (Moto X)
-Update SuperSU install for 4.3 ROMs
-Fixed a permissions bug on files created during backup
-Fixed a bug that caused TWRP to not wait for compressed backups to finish causing 0 byte files and md5sums to not match
-Fixed decryption of encrypted data so that both TouchWiz and AOSP decryption are possible
-Ignore lost+found folder during backup and size calculations
-Various other minor bug fixes and tweaks
CHANGELOG for 2.6.0.0:
Special Note: If you are running a custom theme, you will likely need to remove that theme before updating to 2.6.0.0 as your custom theme will likely not have some of the new changes visible (e.g. you won't be able to encrypt a backup)!
-Can encrypt a backup to prevent theft of private data from your backup files
-Updated graphics / icon courtesy of shift
-Updated exFAT to latest commits
-Fixed a problem with Samsung TouchWiz decryption
-Update SuperSU binary
-Fixed saving of backup partitions list
-Fixed saving of last used zip install folder
-Fixed backup of datadata on devices that use a separate partition for datadata
-Fixed some issues with the advanced wipe list (android_secure, can now wipe internal storage on data/media deivces and wipe data on the advanced list no longer formats the entire data partition)
-Fixed some problems with partitioning a SD card
-Various other bug fixes and tweaks
Notes about encrypted backups:
Why encrypt your backups? -- Most people store their backups on the device. Any app that has permission to access storage could potentially read your backup files and try to harvest your data. Encrypted backups also provide an added layer of security if you move your backups to other storage devices or to the cloud. The encryption that we're using is probably not strong enough for enterprise level security, but should be strong enough to make it significantly difficult to get to your data.
Encryption is using OpenAES which uses AES 128-bit cbc encryption. If you happen to use a longer password (over 16 characters) then the encryption strength improves to 192 or 256 bits. Do not forget your password. If you forget your password you will be unable to restore your backup. We don't encrypt the entire backup. Encryption is very CPU intensive and can be fairly slow even when we spread the workload over multiple cores even on the latest high-end devices. To ensure that encrypted backups don't take forever, we don't encrypt any other partitions besides /data and in /data we don't encrypt /data/app (or other app related directories where apks are stored) and we don't encrypt dalvik cache.

grats, my mean spirited post of the day goes to you. this recovery started from scratch (TWRP) with a few people behind it, but mostly from what ive seen is the work of dees_troy making it into what it is today. he has been working for along time to get it working for us.
the first thing you can think of is well hell this is too hard i need something done even easier for me.

It seems that every backup I make has a date in like 1970. It's quite confusing to figure out which backup is which.
Any ideas? I'm running CWM 5.8.4.5 because any newer ones don't see the external SD card.
AFAIK all versions do this, use team win (TWRP) It will have the date wrong as well but it had a keyboard in the recovery for renaming as you create them. Plus sd card works and it's prettier.

Agree - just switched to TWRP the other day and ext SD card + "star trek" UI was welcome. The file copy/move/delete functions are especially handly because they can you out of a potential bootloop quickly that you can't get out of in CWM without reflashing/nandroid (or writing your own CWM script to specifically mod a file).
Only reason I waited so long to switch was not knowing how incompatible TWRP would be with all the various old CWM zips.

6.0.1.0 is on the ClockworkMod website, and 6.0.1.4 is in the Dev section of this very forum
TWRP now works with 4.2:
There's a file called .layout_version in /data partition, when you factory resetted your device using the recovery, the .layout_version file was also wiped during factory reset process as the recovery is supposed to wipe /data (ofcourse excluding the /data/media/ partition as it is the sdcard) partition in this process. So when Android sees that there's no .layout_version file in /data partition it moves the existing data from /data/media/0/ to /data/media/0/0/ and thus forming an infinite loophole of data being moved to other locations at every reset.

I did not factory reset my phone using the recovery: i simply applied the OTA from 4.1.2 to 4.2
My problem actually is that the /data/media/clockworkmod folder is not seen from /sdcard when accessing either from pc or from rootexplorer, the reason being at this point that cwm is writing files into /data/media/clockworkmod instead of /data/media/0/clockworkmod
CWM keeps on working fine actually, it's simply more difficult to copy the backup from /sdcard to pc: I have to copy /data/media/clockworkmod into /data/media/0/clockworkmod with root explorer and then I can move /sdcard/clockworkmod to the pc (and I wrote move, because by doing so you end up having two clockworkmod folders).
I could move to TWRP but then my 4.1.2 cwm backup I made before upgrading will be useless in case I wanna go back from 4.2 to 4.1.2

what would be the benefit of mving to TWRP?
I've been using stock since day 1, and I'm looking to make my Nexus a bit more ... oomf.
I want all the stock features with just the ability to fiddle with more. What's a good rom for this?

EDIT:
Also just curious, how does updating go on a custom rom? Surely it won't require me to backup everything, install the updated rom and then restoring everything right?

I'm already unlocked/rooted and am familiar with adb/fastboot.
I'll just try a few and see what I like.
Also, how do I access my 'sdcard' directory on my Nexus? When connected to USB it navigates straight into 'Internal Storage'. I'm looking for my Nandroid backup.

We don't have an external SD card. So the internal storage is where all your files are at. Under a "0" folder since your on 4.2.1.

Yeah I just thought there was an emulated 'sdcard' folder linked to Internal. I just can't find the clockwork folder, or the '0' folder (which I understand is for multi user in 4.2.1) for that matter.
0 is a symlink. Your computer should ignore it for the most part. At least mine always has with both my Xoom and My Gnex. Just takes me straight to the contents of the 0 folder.
I'm pretty fond of CM 10.1 nightlies, but that's for toroplus. I'm just familiar with the feel of CM from using it a lot on my old Optimus S. Among other things, it gives me the old, familiar Notification area toggles instead of JUST offering the quick power tiles (. . . whatever they're called) that AOKP uses.
If you currently use the option to back up your apps and settings to Google's servers, the fresh install of a nightly build will automagically download a lot for you. You'll likely want to use Titanium Backup to save the few settings that can be safely restored, and the most recent app data, before each new flash. It's worth it to get the Pro Key so that batch restores don't involve 85 million "press this button" confirmations. Ask anyone who uses TiBu; they'll tell you it's a good, solid app.
Do definitely shop around for the ROM you like most. They all have different features and flair. (I almost uninstalled AOKP on first run because of the bootloader animation; it's a bit garish.) And don't be afraid to go back to stock if you find that you just don't care about the bells and whistles on offer.
Don't forget to download the latest Gapps and flash it after flashing each latest ROM. You'll have a difficult time setting up your Google account otherwise.
I've used AOKP, Xenon Hd, Paranoid and Stock mostly, the custom roms have some nice features but I've found lack of stability some times, so far I always end up going back to stock.
My recommendation is to do a nandroid back up and/or Titanium backup and try as many roms as you want until you find the one that is ideal for you.

Plug the device into your computer. If you have the right drivers installed you will be able to use fastboot. Run the following command via the command line:

Notes:
~GooManager did not show any updates from 2.6.0.0 (at least for me), and I haven't seen or had time to make a flashable zip yet, so it looks like installing the .img via fastboot is the only way to update (for now).
~One of the changes listed is an update to SuperSU for 4.3. I was really hoping this might fix the rebooting issue I and a few others have with 4.3 ROMs, but unfortunately it doesn't seem so (at least in my case).

Do you mind testing it? Make a backup and then boot your rom and try to copy it to a pc with a usb connection. TWRP always give an error and wont copy because of the encryption added in.

Thanks Spleef, I was just looking for this!
Nevermind Spleef, you do enough as it is. I took the initiative and installed 2.6.3, made a backup and successfully copied it to my computer so we are good to go on the upgrade.
Did you try any old backups from previous twrp versions?
