Restoring failed in clockmod recovery!! - HTC One X

Team,
I am owning a HOX, and i am very pleased with this piece of equipment, so i have decided to try couple of roms, each time i want to change a rom i make a back up copy in case i want to come back.
My clockmod recovery contain:
The sock rom, ViperX 2.1.0, tripndroid cyanogene CM10.
the last rom was tripndroid i like it a lot but i hate the temperature of the phone more than normal, so i switched back to my previous rom(viperX).
Before installing the rom (tripndroid) the clockomod back ups were working i have tried them, but after that it stopped working even the stock rom.
I stuck in the rebooting screen or in the starting menu with capacitor buttons on and everything frozen.
Any suggestion will be appreciated.
Regards

Did you flash boot.img everytime you restored a backup?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app

You have to reflash the boot.img of the rom you want to restore first, then restore. so wipe/factory reset>reboot and erase cache>flash original boot.img that came with the rom you are restoring> then finally restore backup.

i have do exactly what you have said but same thing bootloop in splash screen.
BTW: i am in viperx 2.1.0 but the backup was 2.0.0 ( i have upgrade on OTA) is this ok?

if your phone is S-On you have to flash the boot.img from bootloader with fastboot, dont forget to backup your sd when installing ruu/ota's/relocking/unlocking sometimes they rape your sd blank

Try reflashing ViperX 2.00 after the restore.

After installing a Rom or back up your phone can take some time to boot up just leave it for awial its not froze its just loading be patients

stuck in boot loop with any rom (Solved)

First of all i must say i m new to rooting androids, did research for a couple of days then went ahead with rooting my Htc desire z which i did an OTA update to gingerbread 2.3.3
I downgraded to froyo 2.2 using this "[GUIDE] Downgrade G2 (2.3.X) & DZ (2.3.X) & mT4g (2.3.4) & DHD w/ S-ON to Stock Froyo" ..i had to create a gold card.
The boot loader shows :
vision pvt ship s-off
Hboot -0.85.0005
Micorp-0425
radio-26.03.02.18_M3
eMMC-boot
oct 11 2010,20:10:38
Next i used the 2nd post of this "[GUIDE][30/06/2011]Root AND Downgrade Desire Z/G2(S-OFF/ClockWorkMod) -No Gingerbread" to flash the Virtuous Unity 2.39.0 Sense 3.0 based on Pyramid
The rom ran fine for a day, then i started getting boot loops, it would boot, show loading then again restart to the htc logo. At first it loaded after 4-5 tries, then it started looping forever.
I restored my nandroid bakup via clockwork recovery...it worked for an hour, then again my own htc sense 2.2 froyo backed up rom also started boot looping.
I tried the "[ROM][10/21/11] Bulletproof MIUI :: 1.10.21 :: OC/UV/Stable!" it works for a while, then again the horror of boot loops renderin my desire z unusable
I tried cleaning the "wipe dalvik cache" "wipe battery stats" via clockwork recovery v3.0.2.4 nothing worked, i did "wipe data /factory reset" , "wipe cache partition" mounts and storage ...."format /cache, /data, /system" then again rooted, and installed the rom via browse from sd card menu.
again the mobile works for an hr or two and the boot loops occurs, and wont stop
im clueless on what to do. can anybody advise me on what to do so that i dont have to throw my phone away
EDIT:
Problem solved. Seems CWM 5 was causing the issue
Flash the latest cyanogen nightly. Do a full wipe first.

thanks, will try that
Just read the startertopic from the virtous unity.
When you experiance reboots etc aply patch.
Important Notes
If you are experiencing random freezes and/or reboots, this is likely due to your device being incapable of handling our overclocking defaults. Download and apply this flashable patch, which will reduce the maximum CPU frequency to 1Ghz and likely eliminate this issue.

after instaling rom succesfully do'nt reboot but flash this patch. All will be fine.

I was having boot loops even after installing different roms like MIUI, cynaogen, and even the default stock rom...
I did some research and found out that many people who are having multiple roms boot loop issue have one thing in common.. "clockwork mod recovery".
So i uninstalled the recovery and flashed with the stock htc recovery and then i reflashed with the stock htc rom....and voila no more boot loops and the stock rom which didnt worked previously is now running fine. I still have S-ON, but now im a little afraid to flash with a new rom again
Can anybody confirm that CWM recovery can cause this boot loop ??
I'm not sure about the bootloops with CWM, but if you decide to reroot, as an alternative, I highly suggestion flashing the 4EXT Recovery. It's amazing. I've had zero issues with it. And it has many additional options and fabulous support. The link is in my signature.

CWM v5 has been known to bootloop, v3 doesn't (or at least didn't when I used it last)

I've read that the latest CWM fixes the bootloop issue but I find that 4ext is far better so I haven't even tried using CWM since 4ext came out.

I bought the "4EXT Recovery Control" from the android market today...haven't flashed any new roms yet...just running the stock rooted rom to see if everything works fine. So far so good.
One noob question though, what if i again wipe everything and get stock htc recovery for some reason, do i again have to purchase the 4EXT or since i have already purchased it, i just get to download it.

When you wipe, you're using recovery to do the wiping so no, you won't lose the 4ext recovery. You will lose the 4ext Recovery Control app, as you will every other app you downloaded, but your purchase is linked to your Google account so as soon as you sign in with your account the Market will begin downloading everything you purchased.
If you plan on flashing new ROMs, I highly suggest Titanium Backup Pro. Before flashing a ROM, use it to back up all of your apps and their data and create a flashable zip of the program. With 4ext you can flash multiple zips so, set it to flash the new ROM and the Titanium app and that way you can just restore all your apps at once rather than waiting for the Market to download them. The added bonus is that all your data gets restored (saved games, etc.). Just be sure to never restore "system data" unless you're flashing like ROMs.

[Q] [SOLVED] Loop reboot Desire Z

Hi I'd apprecite assistance here.
It happened to me already before.
I did simple ROM backup of Andromadus B4 using ROM manager and from that time, device does loop reboot. It reboot itself until PIN is requested and than it loops reboot.
I had this twice before and what helped was to install again stock ROM with Goldcard, but this time i dont want to do it as i would loose root and have to go thru process again. Once they even changed my board in HTC service but it started to do same thing again after wihile.
What more i can try before start recovery with stock ROM.
advises appreciated.
Thansk.
Wipe everything, super wipe, fastboot -w
Then flash a new rom, something not beta and stable
If bthis doesn't work there may be something wrong with your emmc partitions, going stock may fix...

And make sure you have the correct HBoot for certain ROMs.

Thanks, i did superwipe with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044992 flashed again Andro B4 and voala it works again, no loop reboots anymore.
So marking this as solved

And you never bothered to flash the stock kernel for your HTC Android back up, well that's dumb.
flash your HTC backup
Boot into recovery flash stock kernel
Fast boot erase cache
First boot and set up again
Then try your rom with their stock provided boot.img

Hey thanks for the reply.. First I should restore my backed up HTC ROM right ? Then again in fastboot I should flash the stock kernel ? If this is what you mean then where can I find stock kernel :O
I'm thinking you'd want to re-match your rom and kernel.
Try reflashing your recovery.
Typed with XDA Premium on OneX
I don't know but I pushed the arhd 6.0.0 through and.. now it works fine and I flashed faux 4b3 but it shows 2b1 lol

just don't play with kernals right now, all are same and stock is your best option, so install arhd 7 and format and clean everything.

[Q] HTC ONE X Problem Restore Backup After Flashing JellyBean Custom ROM

Hi guys,
I'm pretty new here and sorry if I have missed a similar thread before. I have problem with my new HOX. I was flashing JellyBean. It works and after few days, I started to dislike it. Then I decided to go back using Ice Cream Sandwich. When I tried to restore back from my backup using CWM, the phone just stuck at the HTC logo screen when I reboot. Then I tried to do restore factory settings. Same thing happen again. After a while, I tried to do the "recovery.img" using my fastboot then erase cache. I thought it would help but turns out it making things worse. Now my phone can't even get to the recovery mode in CWM. Please help me if you have any suggestion on how to make my phone working again.
Thank you so much!
So you didn't even try re flash boot.img?

May have bricked my replacement one x

So my rooted one X that i didnt have a custom rom on started to fail on me (screen stopped working) etc.. Nothing software related. I made a backup of my rom using TWRP and to verify that it worked i actually wiped the phone and reloaded that backup and everything was fine. So i went and got a new ONE x with my warranty. Rooted it, flashed a recovery ( I FORGOT TO BACKUP THE STOCK ROM OF MY REPLACEMENT!!! =((((((( ) I attempted to restore the phone to my old phones backup (boot/system and data).. Which failed badly.. I get past HTC screen and then just a black screen with a white bar flashing up top everyonce and a while. Ive tried to flash custom roms to atleast have a phone and nothing is work.... What can i do? =\ I'd also like to add that after i tried to install a custom rom the phone will auto boot into recovery, or atleast attempt to over and over again. Even after reflashing boot.img
Give the outcome of :
Fastboot getvar all
And delete the serial number and imei !
