color control on stock rooted kernel - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

As title.
Is it possible?

No, kernel must support this feature, but stock doesn't

yes. build stock kernel from source, merge color control code from other kernel. it's gpl. dont claim it as your own of course, should you ever release it.

I wouldn't call that a stock kernel any more though.

i understood op wanted a stock kernel plus color control only. nothing else. no oc, normal gpu clock, etc. only way he can do that is to build.
but for sure, the most minimal of tweaking would consider such a kernel not stock anymore.

Because I want a stock experince.
Custom kernel's are often made by kids, generally they have features that I dislike and I loose the Google Experince that is the
reason why I have a nexus.

This is a pure asinine statement. If you want Google experience then leave it completely stock. Adding color controls makes it not the Google experience any longer.
Not to mention you are badmouthing every hard working dev out there.

Simple Question.... Re: Kernel

I know I need a Kernel that supports overclocking before I use something like CPUBoost... which one can anyone recommend that is stable and would allow this.
Sorry this is my first time posting in this forum... was using the Eris up until yesterday.
Thanks in advance.

It's all preference, depends on if you are using an AOSP rom or Sense rom. Try them out for yourself and then decide, everyone gets different results.
I'm just throwing this out there we can only overclock our phones a wee bit and it for me at least destroys battery life.

honestly you could probably get away with just installing some of the AOSP kernels floating around the Dev threads...I LOVE invisibleks line of kernels, #28 is a champion for me...but I believe the new Tiamat line of kernels is concentrating on aggressive undervolting...I would give them a try
Might try that... it's weird, coming from an Eris, there's definitely a more professional way about this forum. BUT (big but).... the ROM's seems to be overall more incomplete and I am worried about losing somee functionality. So installing a Kernel would be my best bet I guess.... being I would retain all the functionality of the stock ROM.
Hope I make sense.
Oh the other thing is... when a kernel is AOSP compatible, that means stock ROM also right?

all of them. try whats available, find which kernel your phone likes or that serves your purpose the best. there is no this is best answer. its different for everyone. personally, i use trinity kernel, and im a trinity pimp. but that doesnt mean that will be the best for your phone. try/use them all, make a decision then.

trinity is faster, better default screen color, smoother. but, again, every phone will have a different experience, thats why you should try them all out then decide.

you can do it via terminal too, you dont need the app. but the app makes things much easier and it supports a wonderful developer.
No, there isn't. Stock has been vetted/ doesn't change a ton so it's not going to be super buggy but all software will always have bugs.
With the kernels out now you get consistent development/ changes. That's why there are bugs, but you also get consistent bugfixes.

Yes, there is, just not the same implementation than francos or glados. James Bond kernel has the same implementation, afaik.
Objective: support cm gamma controls.
Read the thread, theres an app that allows control of fugumod in a GUI.

Well I am using Trinity now with app. So far works great. No sound bug found in Franco, no WiFi and vibration bug I found in Glados.
I guess the good thing is that I ended up purchasing all 3 kernel tweaking apps to support the devs. Will have a choice when I switch to JB some day

Galaxy Nexus Kernel?

Hey guys,
recently rooted my phone (for the first time) and flashed CM10. I've been reading about Kernels and how they can improve battery life and performance and stuff.
I haven't really understood how a kernel would work. Can I just flash it like how I flashed a ROM? Would it 'delete' my earlier CM10 kernel?
Which kernels are compatible with CM10? Which is the best for battery life and snappiness of the processor?
I've heard of Lean,PopcornKernal, and of course, francos.
Thanks,
Sahil
All of them are good. There isn't a best kernel. You should really stay away from asking those questions. And if you don't tune the kernel there is no way to get any difference than from stock.
Sent From My Toro+ via RED Tapatalk
Im not sure if cm10 requires its own set of kernels but my phone liked the air kernel (ran cooler) and lean (as a bonus removed the purply tint at lower brightness)

depends on the kernel, on the device and on the user.
mpu/core/iva voltages, smartreflex and color control are a few examples.

kernels are like the engine to a car/rom. They're pretty much what manages and drives everything, whereas the rom is like the entire OS.
Every ROM comes with a kernel by default but it can be replaced simply by flashing a kernel on top of it. Conversely, flashing a rom will replace whatever kernel you're running now with the rom's kernel.

Many kernels come with their apps (which can be found in their threads), or some apps might have access to some properties. Also, some roms (cm comes to mind) have access to some properties of some kernels, though there was a recent fuss made about incompatibility so its not perfect.
Franco Kernel
Hey guys! I want to root my GN and I'm a bit confused about what Kernel use...
I have seen this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1367341
Did anyone try the newest version of Franco Kernel (r292)? What's about stability, battery drains, lags... ?
I'd recommend trying Franco's kernel out, it is supported by a nice updater app that can auto-flash the kernel and keep you informed of updates. Doing a bit of research yourself is also always recommended here - this site is for learning about your device. Good luck!
James bond kernal claims to be best in battry life , bt acc. To me trinity alpha 67 with setcpu profiles provide best results.

is there a kernel directory or something? how to I find them? the N4 has way more kernels than the GNex for some reason.

Right - N4 is Qualcomm powered.
You can't expect every Nexus phone to get decent kernel development, especially since the GNex is manufactured by Samsung and uses OMAP.

Example: Samsung b!tches close their Exynos sources, hence much less custom kernels for their flagships.
Having both a Nexus moniker AND a CPU whose manufacturer is more open-sourced definitely helps N4 gets quick feature/ROM backports from N5 and similar architecture'd phones.
Enough N4 chats.

Really there is no best ROM or kernel. Every dev works very hard. Wouldn't it be harsh to say that his work is worse than another devs work? Apart from that. It is all personal prefrence. Its just what you like.. So try them and see which one suits you.
