Anyone else have this problem? After flashing latest TEAM SONIC freegs3 rom, my reception (3g and 4g) has been horrible. I love the rom except for this. Anyone know of any fixes or workarounds for this? Thanks.

How was reception before you flashed the rom? I think the problem is sprint, I'm using freegs3 and everything is running fine. 4G is still spotty and flip flops between 3g and 4g. Did you wipe and flash it again?

Hi, I have my epic running on cm10 preview, awesome rom by the way. Also my phone is flashed to boost mobile. I keep reading about the crespo modem, but I don't know what are the benefits of it. if someone can clarify this for me Thanks.
Okay I went ahead and installed it. My signal bars are down and my 3g is really really slow. Could be my area or it might work better on sprint or maybe this modem is to get better 4G SPEEDS (I do think have 4G in boost) bit it just not working out for me. Does anyone knows how to reversed the process to install an sprint modem?

Odin an epic modem or flash one using joemossjr's thread in cwm. sorry it's not good for you. it's been better for most people.
Yeah I tried flashing but to install the crespo modem I had to patch the kernel and also made another mod mention on the pages. Anyway when I installed the epic modem it doesn't recognize it. It don't let me make phone calls or Internet. So I install the crespo modem again

You have to flash a compatible kernel since you flashed a kernel patch to use the nexus modem.

The easiest way is to odin an epic modem and flash a rom that supports it.
Ok so I have a few questions if you guys would allow me to pick your brains.
I have installed cm9.1 on the galaxy s2 (SGH-T989) using clock work recovery. The phone is rooted using superSU. Pretty standard as far as it goes here. However:
<s>1) I have no wifi calling option and its running android 4.0.4 (ICS). Is this normal for this rom or do I need a different kernal or modem/radio to make this work? Because stock has this feature and its really important to keep message/calling costs down and get service in dead zones.</s>
2) I cannot get 4G data. Only "H" and 3G. I got Edge/2G/3G/4G with stock. Is this normal or do I need to do something else to get this to work?
3) What are good custom kernals to use for this phone because I looked on the sticky and there are only three listed and some are discontinued. Also what are the major advantages of a custom kernal over samsungs stock? I.E. What does it add/modify?
4) Do custom radios change signals your phone can pick up? What exactly does changing the radio do?
THANKS!
~NEW!~
1)Since no wifi calling is a deal breaker for me I'm going to try a new rom, so! I'm looking at darkside and akop. Any opinions on these roms or experiences you guys have had with these good or bad?
2) CWM vs TWRP ~ GO!
Just trying to get better informed. Thanks everyone! :highfive:
Also if there are guides I missed that explain these things I'm sorry just link me to them if you would be so kind. Thanks!

This and stick with stock kernels for now. Different radios work better in different areas, so just try until you find the best one for you.

Haha yea after I got the answer I felt dumb I just never saw the little icon use "H" to explain a radio type and didn't think about that related to 4G as standing for hspa. Also I learned hspa exists using WCDMA. Cool. :victory:
The "H" means HSPA+ which is 4g.
Only Touchwiz ROMs have Wifi Calling (CM9 is AOSP Based)
The best kernel to use is the Darkside Venom Kernel for CM9 AOSP http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1775075
As far as radios go they can change the amount of signal. Certain radios make signal better in different areas. I PREFER THE GALAXY NOTE RADIO FOR Galaxy S2 (T-Mobile)
HOPE THIS HELPED!
Darkside, only tw roms have wifi calling, aosp roms like cm9,10 and aokp dont.

IPTables
Is there a kernal i can flash with the stock rom that would give me iptables/netfilter?
I just flashed this ROM, version 2.9.0. Everything is working fine except my internet speed. I did a FULL wipe before install it and I wiped cache/dalvik when it finished. I update PRL/Profile. Any advice is welcome.

Sprint or VZW? I'm on Sprint and am getting a replacement for this same issue. I let the store screw around with it for over an hour and they decided to just replace it.

I'm using slim bean as well.I have no data issues...I don't think it's the Rom.

Haven't experienced this issue either, I'm also running Slim 2.9 but on a GSM GNex. Is it fine for you on other ROMs? Or with Slim + another kernel?

Thanks for the replies folks. I'm on sprint. I didn't have this issue before flashing the ROM, that's why I'm asking if someone had this issue before. I'm not saying is ROM related, but it could be. I don't have time to flash a different ROM and test.

Unless you flash something else I don't know what to tell you. Make sure you're on the FH05 radio. My problem persists through RTN resets and Odins so it's definitely hardware. Maybe you can try this because you might be having the same problem as me. My speeds are hovering from 30-100Kbps. If you're having 1x speeds over 3G, take it to a store and let them deal with it.

Well, I don't know if it actually says 1x. For me it just gives 1x download speeds and 700-or-so Kbps. Keep us posted.

OK. Internet speed is back to normal. I did nothing to the phone. I've the same ROM, kernel and settings. I know it wasn't sprint fault because my gf is evo 4lte didn't have this issue. Thank you all for helping me out.

All,
I've just recently put 4.1.2 ParanoidAndroid on my E4GT, and no matter which JB modem I use, I seem to have data problems when connecting to a tower. Local wi-fi, no problem, but on a tower, things don't seem to be working well. I've tried ALL JB modems that I can find.
Anyone know what's causing this?
You need to use an ics or gb era modem with that, I do believe.

Thanks to all who responded. I'll do that.
I know the fix has already been said, but might I add, and for my own clarifications:
The only ROM I can think of that is compatible with a JB modem is Jellyverse is it not? I know that that is the only one I have ever used one on so...
Is there any way possible to fix data speeds and radios on cm10.1 July version I've noticed they suck on the s3 as well so I'm thinking Maybe no but was hoping that you can please help and thanks ahead

Yea on my phone ASOP speeds are like like .20mbps on 4g ( not kidding), while on TW its atleast 2mbps on 4g. No real way to fix it that I found after alot of searching. But I heard it depends on your phone, some people say they get same speeds on TW and ASOP. My brother has Dirty Unicorn on his phone and has the same speed that I have on Project X. We are just unlucky
I ended up flashing fi03 and its doing awesome now I'll post a speed test soon thanks for the reply

You are always going to have better data speeds on tw than on aosp...When Im on tw I run the stock kernel that matches up with the rom and modem Im running..So I get my data back to what it was when I was stock...But you don't have the kernel option on aosp..I have seen many people say this modem works and that ones better, but really you just have to find which one works best for you're area...FL24 works best for me..but Im in chicago,so the towers are updated more often..
