One more question regarding faux123's latest kernel for stock-based ROMs. In the latest posts, I read people are dying for a version compatible with UVLH2 and as I've mentioned in a few other posts, I'm on UVLH3 and it works fine. Is there a reason for this? Is my device info inaccurately reporting that I'm on UVLH3? Thanks!
Sounds like you are looking at the baseband, which is only the radio version. At the very bottom you will find your build number. If it says UVALH2 or UVDLH3 then custom kernels are not compatible. This is because Samsung hasn't released the source code.

I have compiled a list of kernels that work on CM7 base. I used to have these in my signature but looks like this might be worthy of a thread considering the questions people keep asking on what kernels are compatible with the latest cm7 nightly etc etc and I don't see a similar thread.
NOTE: These kernels only work on roms that base on CM7 Nightly 123 and later ( CM7 nightly 123 and higher, Insanity 40 and higher, MIUI 1.9.30 and higher). Make sure you are on these before you try these kernels. I will keep this thread updated but if you see a newer version of any of these kernels posted in IRC, kernel thread or wherever, post it here and i will update this original post.

After flashing this, if you are looking for stock CM7 kernel, try the attached Cm7_stock_kernel.zip. I pulled this from nightly 143. Worked fine for me. I flashed neo first, then flashed this and got stock kernel back.
If you screwed up something and lost recovery, try the attached KernelCMW2.tar file. Flash it using odin/heimdall, pull battery and put back, enter cwm and flash a CM7 based rom.
If any of the kernel developers have an issue with this thread contact me by PM.
Thanks to the following kernel developers/maintainers
TKGlitch/Sixstringsg ( current maintainer of glitch)
Zacharias Maladroit ( Neo Platypus)
Nikademus ( FuguMod)
CM7 team/pawitp ( current maintainer for stock CM7)
This pleases me ^^
would be great if you could provide some basic info about those kernels (features included) and/or link to their source. appreciated.

There are only 3 different kernels and you didn't even provide any info or comparison beyond the linux upstream version.
What a completely pointless thread.

the glitch links are dead, you can find them here.. http://androtransfer.com/tk-glitch/CM7-kernels/Glitch/i9000/VoodooColor/

thats the goal of this thread. There are also links to learn what each kernel offers. No point providing info on battery life for each kernel etc as it would vary phone to phone.
My friend asked me to flash cyanogenmod on his play. But when I flashed it, it was very slow. Doomslord kernel, not the ice one. And cm7 from official cm site. Is there something wrong with this setup that causes the extreme slowness? Pls help me.
First try and see if CM lowered the CPU frequency. Go to settings -> cyanogenmod settings -> performance (or something similar) -> CPU settings.
If this isn't the case, try flashing their own kernel or install a nightly build.
Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't it state that cyanogen roms are only compatible with cyanogem kernels? So any other kernels would cause problems.

That's not entirely true. Some kernels can use CyanogenMod sources, but with tweaks, so technically those aren't CyanogenMod kernels. Then there are times where there are very minor bugs while using kernels that aren't CyanogenMod kernels. In many cases, those bugs are negligible, and easily worked around.
So no, there are other kernels that would work with CyanogenMod.
What model of Xperia Play is it? Is it GSM or CDMA? Which specific DooMKerneL was flashed, can you link to the thread?
Can someone link me to that kernel? I'm very lost over here. I've rooted and flashed roms to so many devices but the one is the hardest to date.
So I have the newest miui rom that is in the android development section. I am wondering if there are any kernels that I can change to that are better than the one it comes with. Am I even able to switch kernels?

Get the AOSP version of it JB also
Isn't there a kernel by faux or something? Or is there only one kernel I can have?
Yes, Fuax has a JB CM10 kernel. It's what I use since KT747 doesn't ever work for me.

I have recently installed CM10 on my AT&T galaxy s3(sgh-i747) and was wondering how to figure out if a kernel is compatible with my device. I was looking at the Devil kernel and didn't understand how to know if it would work with my phone.
Read the kernels thread OP. It should specify if it's for AOSP ROMs or Touchwiz ROMs. Kernels for our devices can be found in the Android development and original development sections.

So what specifications would it need to be compatible with my phone.

You mentioned CM10, so you want one that works with AOSP based ROMs. Also make sure they explicitly say CM10(Jellybean 4.1) or CM10.1 (Jellybean 4.2.1), depending on what version of Jellybean you have.

So im I'm looking at the kernel kt747 by ktoonz and there is a version for jellybean 4.2.1 and one that just says jellybean would it be safe to flash the one that just says aosp jellybean version (BTW I have cm10 so I have 4.1.2 not 4.2.1)? Thanks for all of the help.
Flash the one that says jellybean AOSP (12/11).
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Yes. Flash the normal JB version. 4.2.1 is solely for 4.2.1. Not 4.1.2
Thanks
It worked well, thanks everyone for the help.
Am I missing something or are there no kernals compatible with the Verizon version of this phone. I really want tap to wake but all I see are gsm variant kernals.
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Tapatalk
That is correct at this time there are no custom kernels for the Verizon HTC One, this is due to kernel source not being released yet.
I should note that the Vanir AOSP rom in the Originial Development section mentions that it has a custom kernel in the title "[ROM][4.3.1][Nightlies][CUSTOM KERNEL] VanirAOSP", you might want to check into that thread and see if you can get any specifics on the custom kernel they claim to have.
