Hello everyone, Im trying to figure out why my wifi signal is almost non-existent when im downstairs in my house. My router is right next to my ps3 and tv so im always downstairs but i always have a weak signal most times or no bars at all. But when im upstairs i have full bars. Any idea on what i can do to improve this?? I have comcast internet and a Belkin N600 dual band N+ router.
I found this and hope it helps. There is a known issue with the Wi-Fi connectivity.

I'm thinking if getting a g2 for my sister, but I hesitate because of the data connectivity issues that every review seems to mention.
Has there been an update to resolve those issues?
I'd hate for her to be unable to get 3g indoors. Thanks in advance.

What connectivity issues?
I've never had a single issue with my device...

Thanks for the reply. I read 2 separate reviews that said that the phone had trouble maintaining 3g connection indoors, and mostly stayed connected on edge.
Anyone else have or not have this issue?

Mods please delete my thread in the other forum I posted in the wrong forum.
Is wireless affected by modem type?
I just started using thunderhawk and shadow kernel. Modem is still eo5. I am noticing my wifi signal is not what is used to be when I was on frozen/genocide.
Will a different modem make a difference?

Samsung turned down the radios in Gingerbread to conserve battery. So wifi is lower in signal, gps locks on less satellites (without the fix) but 3G and 4G seem unchanged.

Great
Anyway to turn the wifi signal up?
Not that I know of. I don't think anyone has looked at it.

I have seen reduced wifi and 4G data throughput speeds ever since installing EI22. I don't test 3G. Multiple ROMs and multiple kernels. Seems I can get a bit of a boost in speed if I disable the slowest clock speeds on my device.
Had no such issue with EC05 SRF and Genocide.
That's my experience, anyway.
The OP was asking about wifi signal strength.

I believe they lowered the power consumption on the radios all the way around. But with wifi don't pay attention to signal bars cuz the devs or samsung change the bars between builds. Example you could have 100% signal but only show 1 or 2 bars depending on the decibal levels they have each bar set to. The only thing that is accurate is a wifi signal analyzer that shows you your signal in decibals.

I think a few people noted that they don't have the same range they had on Froyo with their wifi, comparing the same distances from the router.

I would have to disagree I have analyzed my network in db's since eclair with this phone. I have identical db's in the exact same locations just less signal bars. Its all in peoples heads. So don't believe everything you read. I install wifi networks for a living and use this phone as a testing tool cuz its faster and easier than my laptop. Another thing some people don't understand is interference could be the issue of them not getting the same results. If you have 20 wifi signals broadcasting like in apartment it will degrade your signal terribily. I don't have any other wifi signals around me so my signal is constant no interference.

I flashed to CM9 3-15 build this morning and after doing so, I no longer have wifi. I've flashed multiple ROMS, Modems and Kernels now with no success.
Here's my logcat from a completely stock EL29 phone.

Any suggestions?

these wifi issues are certainly interesting.
Hi all
Are there any users who've used a different radio to improve the poor wifi signal on the galaxy s3?
There was a lengthy thread about this issue but haven't read or found a solution. My wifi drops off consistently and standing beside my router, I only ever get 2bars of signal strength.

Up until today there was only one radio that would work. Today all the major Canadian carriers released an update and part of that was an updated modem(radio). Check for updates on your phone or through KIES. I haven't seen any pre-rooted versions yet but give it time.....
Thanks, as far as radios I am curios which radios we can flash on our s3's as per region or carrier

The radio has nothing to do with WiFi, the kernel does. My Bell S3 picks up WiFi just fine. It might be your router that is the issue? Have you tried resetting it?

Router connects well to tablet, laptop and sonos. I literally have to be in a 3' radius to get 3-4 bars of signal strength.
Speedtest was about 3Mbps down. Brutal. I posted in another post but I'll do it again here. Samsung is taking my phone back since it's within the one year period. Service time frame 2-5 weeks. They emailed me a UPS prepaid shipping to print out to ship it to Ontario for repair or replacement.
Hello. When I bought my Xperia S it was with GBm then I upgradet it to ICS and the Wi-Fi signal was strong enough, I hadn't any complaints. However, after I upgraded to JB (6.2.B.1.96) the Wi-Fi signal strenght started dropping, sometimes it even REJECTS to connect. It's not a router problem, I can guarantee. Can someone help me? Thanks in advance!
I have the same problem but mine little different I have 2 routers in my house if I connect to my belkin the WiFi is flawless but when I connect t my netgear it keeps droping the WiFi idk?
