Hey,
I got an update notification this morning on Rogers. It is 86mb. I dont know what is new since i didnt install. Can I install over top of Clockwork recovery? If not how do I put stock recovery back on (Prefer not having to wipe data).
Thanks,
-Luke

Do you have cwm? Can I just flash the root without screwing up the flash counter again ?

I assume its the brightness in notifications.

I downloaded the update but could not install it since I don't have the stock recovery. It tries to boot into the stock recovery but because I have TWRP installed it booted into that. I'll try a Kies update later to see if that works.
I got my notice and automatic download for mine as well on the Bell network. Samsung Canada along with the main carriers have put out the new I747MVLALH1 Firmware. Our OTA updates are smaller and will very by carrier because they only contain the files that need to be updated rather then the whole firmware itself.
This is very good news for all us Canadian 747 users because the LH1 Modem along with the firmware changes include a great deal of proformance/bug fixes, our launch firmware with our phones was kinda the ****s to say the least so this new one should really help out.
As for keeping root. I am using SuperSU root paid for the Pro version which has a Root keeper funtion in it when you update via OTA. However the update does require the stock recovery so if you have flashed CWM recovery you will need to flash the stock one back first then apply the update.
Just finishing my phone backup atm to my computer then will try the OTA Root Keeper and see how well it works out for me.
Any chance someone could post the modem I747MVLALH1?
I'm still home and downloading as we speak. I will cancel before the installation and if its still not posted online by the time I get to work, I will upload it somewhere.
BTW, the Rogers update is the same size. I have a feeling this update will include the removal of Universal search.

I updated via the OTA, I try'd out Chainfires SuperSU Pro version which has a Root Keeper function to maintain root while updating on OTA, it did not work for our Canadian Models unfortunately but that is okay it is an experimental function anyways. At any rate I simpled flash CWM and push the SuperSU root app back onto my phone via CWM just fine to retain my root, and you can quickly and easily use chainfires Triangle away app to reset your flash counters.
Everything has worked fine for me. I am using the new LH1 firmware on my Bell phone and I am completed Rooted ^_^
For those less experianced and dont mind waiting for a root injected rom that is all good. For others you can take the steps I did and so far so good OMG I am loving LH1 over what we got out of the box!
You can also get the rogers and telus update through samsung-updates.com. ot will be a odin flash. I will do a modem cwm zip when i get home from work.

Is there a way to restore stock recovery? I'm asking because I have a backup of my touchwiz rom (currently running cm10) and I want to restore to that to get the OTA
I'm on rogers and it says there's no update. I want a brightness slider! I've missed it from my crappy on aokp. But I get my computer back this week. Time to play again.

Edit: Solved via flashing radio ROM in ODIN, see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31934326&postcount=22
I rooted my Sprint Galaxy Nexus using the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit 6.1. When the FD02 update came out, I couldn't install it OTA, but could install the radio and other updates in CWM recovery by downloading the files from here on XDA and installing them. Now that FG01 is out, I'm seeing the same problem of not being able to install OTA updates. I googled around and saw that one problem could be having CWM instead of the stock recovery, so I used the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit 6.1 to ReFlash Stock Recovery. I forced the OTA update through clearing/stopping Google Services Framework, and my phone rebooted and started to install, but halfway through I got the red exclamation mark screen.
What else do I need to do to be able to install OTA updates while rooted?

The radio, bootloader, and the ROM all has to be same model (or type). Try reflashing all the radio, bootloader and the image that is all yakju or takju

You didn't need to revert to stock recovery. CWM will flash the OTA update just fine, you just have to tell it to. The OTA update will download as a zip file to /cache (or you can use the URLs posted over in the General forum to download the zip file yourself)... just boot into CWM and flash it. This also gives you a chance to also flash SuperSU before rebooting so you don't lose root (since the OTA update will unroot you).
This is how I install my OTA updates. I download the zip from URLs posted in this forum, boot to CWM and flash it, then flash SuperSU, reboot. Done. The bit about needing the correct bootloader and radio still applies, of course.

No. He's not running either of them, probably. He's on Sprint, which means his stock radios could be different from gsm yakju/takju (i believe sprint's model is lte/cdma? I may be wrong though..).

LOL. I said Sprint in the OP I think the Sprint Galaxy Nexus is called "Toro Plus" or "Toroplus" in this context.
Anyway, the problem I had before with CWM was that I could start the FD02 OTA update within CWM, and I'd get, as I recall, the red exclamation mark screen, instead of a successful install. I had the same issue when I tried the FG01 OTA update outright, it rebooted, went to CWM, and gave me a red exclamation mark. From searching around on google, it seemed that this was due to my current non-bone-stock setup (rooted/CWM recovery/unlocked/stock ROM), so is it actually unusual for this setup to not install OTA updates properly?
Thanks for the help so far, this is my first Android phone after a long line of WinCE/PPC/WM6 devices, and there's a lot that I'm unfamiliar with
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
rooted = no effect on OTA updates (assuming you haven't messed around with anything in /system - if you have, all bets are off)
unlocked bootloader = no effect on OTA updates
CWM = will not install OTA updates automatically, but will install them manually by flashing the zip
stock ROM = required for OTA updates, and must be the build that the OTA update is meant for
radio = must be the version the OTA update expects
bootloader = must be the version the OTA update expects (actually not 100% sure on that, but it doesn't hurt...)
If everything is right and it still won't go, I'm not sure. Flashing with CWM might actually give you more of an error message indicating what's wrong. I think the stock recovery just gives you the exclamation mark and nothing more.

Yeah, I was unsure about toroplus being the sprint version.
Not sure whats going on, although i wouldn't think much about it and go full stock. Have you tried the updates thread on dev section? Have you tried TWRP?
Since i'm on maguro, i flashed yakju factory image, booted twrp with fastboot, flashed a supersu zip, reboot. Full stock achieved, with root. Nothing to it. Backup your root if you want with OTA root keeper or whatever people use (i would just repeat the first steps i mentioned after the ota installed, except reflash factory image, of course), then accept the ota.
Sent from my i9250
So you're saying, return the GNex to full stock, unlock and root again (perhaps using a different "toolkit" type utility, or just using adb commands), and see what happens? And I haven't visited any update threads other than when I installed the FD02 radio + other updates.
I'll ask the same thing I asked other dude with the same question, why?? Who wants an ICS OTA with borked search? For the love of all things butter, just flash JB!!
Seriously, should I have to explain myself? I want Sprint TV since I'm paying for it anyway. I want things to "just work" and not mess with JB ROMs using a hacked ICS radio. I don't want to put on ROMs with broken stuff in it (there's one ROM whose OP just says "Broken: you tell me." for crying out loud). I'm not going to argue this any further. Obviously if I wanted to put on a community ROM, I would just do so.

I'm sorry if I came off confrontational, I was sincerely trying to help. I've been using JB ROMs since they were released and nothing is broken and I would never even consider going back to ICS now. But, of course, it's your phone and you'll do what you want with it.

Rooting has nothing to do with it.
As was mentioned earlier, CWM will install an OTA update file but it will NOT install it over-the-air. What I mean is, if you download the update yourself ( from the "update" link in my signature), you can use CWM. If you get the notification that there is an OTA update and you click accept and try to have it install while CWM is installed , it will fail. See the difference?

i am planning on rooting my SGN2 this weekend but i have some questions in my mind i wanna clear up first
1. if i root my SGN2 (JB 4.1.1), and still use stock rom, will i get OTA updates or will i need to unroot?
2. if i root my SGN2 (JB 4.1.1), and still use stock rom, will i lose any stock functions or will it just be the same as an UNROOTED SGN2?
3. are there any known issues of rooting SGN2 and stay on Stock rom?
4. if i root my SGN2 (JB 4.1.1), and still use stock rom, will there be any differences from my UNROOTED STOCK rom, from a ROOTED STOCK rom? what are they?
thanks guys, and more power..
hope to hear some replies

1. rooting will break OTA, sometimes unrooting with factory reset needs to get OTA, so i straight way like to say, don't expect OTA too simple if you want to root. and be prepared for flashing full ROM with Odin
2.You won't lose function but learning hub OR skyGo and some banking application known to stop working as long as you have rooted device.
3.Rooting voids warranty, and you have to unroot (as well reset counter,if you have it raised)before sending to service station.

ok, so if i root my SGN2 (JB 4.1.1), then an update comes out for example, 4.1.2, i will have to
1. unroot, (which is no problem)
and 2. factory reset, which will cause me to lose all my data and back ups? which can be trouble some
am i understanding it right?
and what do you mean by "and be prepared for flashing full ROM with Odin" i wont get to keep stock rom?
Just use CF root, flash with Odin now you will be rooted on stock rom if you want to update to 4.1.2 just download the FW from sammobile,go ahead and flash it using Odin again now you will be no longer rooted. But before you flash the stock FW be sure to reset the counters(triangle away)
And yes a factory reset you will loose everything.you will not loose whats on your external memory card

factory reset you will lose data but once you are rooted, there is lot option to backup, titanium is one of best.
"and be prepared for flashing full ROM with Odin" means in any case you won't get update, you can anytime download full ROM and flash it with odin. when OTA release, sametime you can also find full ROM for that update.

last question is...
after using "ExynosAbuse apk" to root like you said, what is next step to update Firmware to 4.1.2?
and for example, if v4.1.3 comes out, what method will i use to update again since i did not use odin to flash rom and u said "In future when you update to 4.1.2, method 3 won't work. "
thank you very much...
you are kind to reply and spend time with a noob like me...
a billion thanks to you...
You can unroot from exynos abuse and try to get ota
If fails try wiping data and most probably you should get ota, but remember i said most probably, i have seen case after wiping you may fail to get ota, in that case you will have only option to update is odin (you may try Kies too)
When new update will available most probably other methods should work(as of now other both method works till rom released today) , but when there is no 4.1.3,it is difficult to say, so stay tuned to thread I mentioned few post back.

you are lucky; usually doing an ota update kills root
It removed the option #4 when doing the free sim unlock.

I was at one time running cleanrom. But, I bought a AllShare Cast Hub with my 50% coupon. I can only get that to work on stock. So, I went back to bone unrooted stock, took the OTA than granted multi view, then ran the auto root with Odin. Then I took the newer ota. It still says modified, and super su is still installed. When I open super su I didn't get any sort of error. So, I ASSumed I was still rooted.
But, when I dig deeper and tried to get root access I am not actually rooted anymore. I wonder why it says modified then. I expected to lose root, but I also expected it to remove super su.
The ota downloaded, rebooted, installed, with no hitch, when I was rooted. So, root doesn't prevent the ota from downloading. But, root was the only modification I made, nothing else, otherwise the AllShare cast doesn't work.

I did a similar update with the LK7 OTA update. I was stock rooted with all status at normal and flash counter at zero. I installed Voodoo OTA RootKeeper (v2.0.3) and ran it to get a protected copy su binary. Then let the phone flash the OTA update and reboot. I too still had SuperuserSU and appeared to be rooted, but when I tried to launch Titanium it couldn't get permission. I had to open RootKeeper and re-apply the protecyed copy of root, then everything was fine.
I have TWRP recovery installed on my Note 2 (Sprint) and I saw the OTA Jelly Bean update is available. When I tried to install it, the phone restarts to TWRP without installing the update...
I have the stock rom installed with root. I am still a noob when it comes to rooting and all the details, so explain everything like I'm 5 please...

Perfect...so I just dl the Stock L900VPAMA7 All-In-One Firmware one and then use TWRP to flash it?
I also feel like a bit of a noob...is this JB 4.2.1 or 4.1.2?
You have to go back to a stock UNROOTED rom. Without TWRP or anything.
Then you download the OTA update.
In in the stock recovery boot.
Then once the OTA update applies you can root and do whatever.

Download the third one Down that says all in one firmware and flash in TWRP. That is the modem and other things for ma7. Then download either the first or second link depending on if u want odex or deodexed rom. If u don't want any themes then go odex. Then flash that in TWRP wiping cache and dalvik. Then u are on ma7.

Exactly. Unless you install a rom that has the latest update built in the only way to take the actual ota from Sprint/Samsung is to unroot and install stock recovery. Before you unroot you need to make sure that your binary counter isn't more than one. If you don't know what that is then run the app "triangle away". If your counter is more than 2 you'll need to run it that many times till it's back to 1. After that you need to unroot preferably with something like supersu that can clean everything up before unrooting. Then you have to flash it back to stock recovery. There is a tutorial video in galaxynote2root.com. I had to do this to mine since I was just rooted with stock rom and didn't feel like installing a rom with the update already in it. Good luck

Just search xda for the modded OTA update files and then flash them through TWRP
This is so confusing. I have searched everywhere and the help on this is so limited. Can someone who successfully updated their note 2 to ma7 please do a walkthrough on how they did it. And please do it for us 5 year olds without acronyms and such.

So you downloaded the latest OTA and it did not affect root ??
still getting ota notification
flashed the all-one , and the odexed ma7 rom, the phone shows that I am running 4.1.2 but I am still getting the ota notification that I have an update downloaded and ready to install.
Any ideas on what went wrong or how to stop the notification???
Don't quote me on this, but from what I have read, On a custom recovery it will fail when trying to install and never show you the notification message again for you to install again. Try and see, worst case scenario it will not install and no harm no fowl.

I think you should strat by reseting your phone to its original state and you can to this following the tread of the toolbox(i'm browsing woth tapatalk now so i will try to come back and post the link but it should be easy to find). You will use triangle away in the process.
Then update your phone trough samsung kies.
Voila complete stock 4.3 with knox

But I think Zen's plan will be better.....
Here's the cwm/twrp zip for ucamc3 recovery.... (attached)
Note that the OTA may still fail if it detects anything missing or different than what it expects. In that case, a wipe of /system, then a revert to MA4, may be needed.
You want me to go back to TWRP? I have the stock recovery right now.

The simplest path is to reflash TWRP, then flash the recovery I provided above, then see if the OTA will complete.
You might also be able to get the OTA to complete by running the openscript option from TWRP .. I know DS has had some success with that, but ymmv. If you try this option, you may get more information about where the OTA fails - take note of that and report back.
If that doesn't work then the next option would be to wipe /system and then odin flash UCAMA4. This should get you a clean OTA path to 4.3, and your data and apps should be preserved (although there is some risk). I recommend making backups beforehand in TiBu and then copy your SDCard contents to PC.
Thanks for you help will report back later. have to wait another 20 hours to dl the OTA update again.
You can turn off auto update of network time and set your time ahead 24 hours.
An alternative if ota doesn't work is to flash the stock rooted mk6 package - odin or cwm odex... DS provided a link earlier.
If Knox is a work requirement, you would need to decline SuperSU offers to disable Knox and you would need to run SuperSU and request full unroot.
