Archive messages - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Does any one know how to set up the messaging app to archive the messages after a certain amount of texts?

You can download an SMS backup app from the market and have it auto backup.

Deleting some stock apps have cost me lengthy time in recovery mode, leave em in for the ride.
Use titanium backup to freeze them. Out of sight, out of mind.

This is a bad idea as some stock apps are needed like the messaging app

yeah, all you can do is disable notifications for it. i just wish that i could hide/remove some of the apps from the "share" function, which i use quite a lot. i'd like to choose which apps are in that view, and in which order. i know its the same in sense 2.0, so we can only hope it comes in a later revision.

+1. I use Handcent as well. Go to stock messaging and disable notifications.

I've used cyanogen since my OG Droid days and delete mms.apk after I install handcent along with email (not gmail), protips, news and weather, car home, etc. Never had an issue.

I did this and tested it and mms can NOT be received. Fortunately I had a TI backup to restore mms.apk from, otherwise I would have had to reinstall CM...
You don't have to reinstall the rom just for one app.. its packaged in, just take mms.apk out of /system/app in the rom download and put it back into /system/app on your phone.

Anyone's gmail not deleting?

When I delete a new Gmail, occasionally it still says I have 1 unread inbox and priority inbox message unread until I logon my computer to delete it. Only had it with this phone.

It may not be pushing correctly. If you're in edge, it might take a while for changes to be effective. If on 4g or wifi make sure you have data sync on

Have you done a restore from a NANDdroid backup? If so, you need to go into applications and clear data from Gmail. After you do that it will sync correctly.

Saving mms

Is there any way to get the stock messaging app to automatically change the file name when saving an mms? It promts me every time telling me to rename it or else it will overwrite the last one... Not the end of the world, but incredibly irritating.

No idea, but if you just want a convenient backup of your texts, this one seems them to your gmail. They'll be threaded weird and out of order, but easily searchable.
Oops, I can't post links yet. It's called SMS Backup+, available on the play market.

I do actually use that (and have been for quite awhile) its very handy for lots of reasons. I just like saving all of them to my phone too though.

I have the same problem, you can continue naming each individual picture with numbers you just randomly think of, its rare I repeated the same number. Or download a third party app like Handscent or Go SMS which just downloads the MMS without worrying about a particular designation. Every once in awhile you run across a Touchwiz rom that doesn't have this problem, but its usually a ASOP rom that just downloads MMS without this problem.

That's about what I figured. I used to use handcent but the stock app has made leaps and bounds over the years so I like sticking with that. I've been doing the random letters after going to save it, but in you ef up and do by chance pick something you already used, it will overwrite it.

Any update or solution to this issue? From what I remember my Samsung Epic 4G did not have this problem, as a matter of fact it did exactly what we are trying to get the Galaxy S3 to do by default. I find that this should have not been an issue, why on earth would someone NOT think to make this a basic function/feature?....

[Q] Text messaging app question

As someone who keeps flashing different roms, titanium backup is a life saver. One thing I can't get it to do is restore all my texts each flash. Anyone have any suggestions for an app that can do this?

Mybackup root from the play store. You can backup SMS, MMS, APN settings, call logs, and other settings. I use it for those mentioned above.

Titanium Backup backs up and restores my text messages successfully with each rom flash I do.
I use sms backup +
It backs up sms/mms/call logs to your gmail account so its good in that I can limit the number of aged texts sitting on my phone knowing everything is backed up and also I can use gmail search to find any aged text I want quickly.
The auto backup feature is also handy once its set you can forget about it.
Restoring is also quick and easy.

How to export text messages

I'm running 4.1.2 and I created a folder and copied some texts to it within the messenger. Where is this folder stored? I'm trying to move them to an ad card and onto another phone.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Download a file manager from the play store and search the internal memory as well as the SD card for a folder that might contain the messages.
If you still can't find the backed up messages, then download an app from the play store that backs up messages, there's plenty of them on there.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but I can't ever recall being able to create folders and backup/export/import text messages from within the messaging app to the sdcard??
I am stock 4.1.2 and do not see this as an option. Nor have I ever, and I've looked! Only way I know to do this without an sms backup app is to copy the db file from telephony....If I've missed something I would definitely like to know!
