Analysing WIFI issue - HTC One X

Hi
My WIFI seems to have gone wonky. It appears I have the 'loose antenna' issue, but have been running some other tests.
Tests were done at 2 and 5 meters from WIFI AP.
1. Run WIFI Analyzer.
2. Cup hand over the top of the phone (no squeezing, just gentle cupping, barely touching the phone).
3. Looses about 20db
4. Remove hand
5. Gains lost 20db again.
Occasionally, WIFI, just drops (and gets turned off) and get's re-enabled.
I do NOT have the 'Switch WIFI off' option ticked.
Can anyone confirm the same behavior on a perfectly working phone (and possibly one that has the WIFI issue if not fixed already).
Thanks, very much appreciated.

I've had one with the hardware wifi problem and now have one which is fine - even with the ok one, covering to top right hand corner with your hand will indeed cause the signal to drop as you describe.

Bah, this is just HTC's version of the Apple iPhone mess up they made when they completely lost signal.
Surely they should test for things like this before release?
WiFi maybe not so much, but apple and the Signal!!

I believe these are two seperate issues. I get the 'random drop' issue too, which is a real annoyance. Essentially most of the time when I try to browse I have to wait for my Wifi to 'drop', and reconnect, before I can do anything - it takes a good minute or so to do, and happens quite frequently

My poor signal issue seems to have started in the last few days. It used to be good. Where I am sitting now (about 5 meter from AP, via 2 windows), 4/5 bars I used to get, now only 1/2 bars and many more drops than I used to get.

Losing signal after text message

This happened two times, once where I had full five bars with a HSPA connection and at home more often where I have two bars with an edge connection.
What happens is, when I get a text message, I will view it and then once I reply, the signal will drop and I won't have any signal, and have to wait for the phone to reconnect.
The same has happened outside with full service.
At home, I have wifi calling enabled and sometimes that will even drop and I will have to wait for wifi calling to reconnect or for the phone to gain back reception.
Is this a common issue? I have the ota radio on it, (not flashing any other radios, due to the fear of bricking), and running on Cyanogens 6.1.1.
Edit: This tends to happen a lot, when I get multiple messages and reply to each other quicky. I do about 6k messages a month and its getting annoying having the phone lose/drop signal when replying or receiving messages.
Thanks

Does this happen when you use the keyboard or the phone in landscape? I found out that if you cover the top party of the phone just above the camera with your hand the wifi completely drops. Turns out its the same antennagate as iphones but only affecting wif (so far). I actually can't use my keyboard on wifi because right away after putting my left hand on the top of the phone to hold it in landscape my wifi drops from full to either 1 bar or completely turns off and switches to H or 3G. If you're having the same issue then post back.
Yes, I actually do have the same problem. I donĀ“t think there is a solution for it is there?
I'm seeing the same problem withnmy g2, running cm 6.1.1. I have a case on my phone as well.
i am having this problem when i turn the internet on. Happens instantly.
I was having a similar problem, running cm 6.1.1. I flashed pershoot's kernel and have had better reliability during my two days or so of testing.
I've had 'similar' issues. Its rare that my signal drops completely but when I have the phone open in landscape mode and am sending a text using the hardware keyboard, my signal does seem to drop by 10-15db.
I had the same issue with the stock ROM as well.
Although this is not a solution, I have noticed that the signal isn't affected as much if you keep your hands on the back of the phone 'low', as in my index fingers sit below the camera on the back of the phone when texting...
I've had connection problems ever since I updated the radio. My signal before that was great, and so it was at home. Ever since the update, I go from 2 bars of HSPA to Edge, which is pretty frustrating.
At work, my signal was great and never drops. But today I've been going from GSPA to Edge to 3G over and over, which has me really annoyed.
Edit: Also, I tend to lose connection when I receive an MMS, not a regular text. When I get a call and I don't answer, I lose signal completely, which has caused me to miss voice mails.

Wifi Problems!

Hey there, I brought my htc one x on contract with 3 at the start of august, the first one had a problem with the battery and had to wait to have a new one in white but eventually, I recieved one that worked. It had been great till a few weeks ago where my wi-fi has been poorer than before, everything else was fine though including my computer and few other things but my one x suddenly buffers every youtube video which take a while to load and keep pausing, the wifi disconnects every now and then but the internet along with twitter and facebook you can't always tell but it defiantly is poor at times. The Wi-fi icon at the top is full at times even when it isn't connecting well to the wifi and then always goes up and down. Always random. I tried the squeeze test which has once or twice improved it but nothing is effected by it usually, even when i downloaded the wifi analyser app, at first i squeezed it and it shot up but since then even if it says the signal is good, it still isn't. It's the youtube that is the worse, but I don't think it is just that as the wifi disconnects and goes up and down at times and just poor compared to before. Do i have this same problem though? The squeeze dosen't always work and what shall i do? Go back to the 3 store?
Really was a good phone till this problem popped up.

[Q] HTC One X - WiFi drops every now and then? (Phone passes squeeze test)

So there is this one thing that have nagged me in the back of my head with my HTC One X, and it's that the WiFi sometimes (rarely) drops for a few seconds and then reconnects (at full strength), it seems random, happens both in use and when not using it, as in I unlock the phone and it's not connected to the WiFi, 3G connectivity seems to work just fine when this happens, it appears to be a WiFi only thing.
Now I'm sure this is NOT the WiFi hardware fault, the squeeze test does not make my WiFi signal die, and my brother also bought the very same phone, just another color, and it behaves similar in WiFi performance, and it too have no issue with the squeeze test, however, as my brother rarely use WiFi or browse with the phone, I haven't been able to get an answer if his phone behaves like mine does every now and then.
My router is a Netgear WNDR3700, running on Ch 11 (no one else on the channel), and other equipment such as laptops have no issues with it, so I'm wondering if this is software issue or what not, the phone is currently running stock HTC 4.0.4.
What could create this issue I wonder? I'm thinking of setting my routers beacon interval to 1000, it seems to save battery according to some threads, but I can't seem to think this is relevant here.
I have the same issue with my HTC One X+. In fact, I found this topic because I was seeing whether it was an issue (I hope it's not...).
The issue seems random, but now and then I turn on my phone screen to have no signal and then it reconnects. Not the WiFi bug and not a dodgy signal as it's strong.

Im now onto my 3rd white HOX for my wife (my grey one has been perfect!) and the second one suffered really back from wifi drops, the squeze test afaik doesnt drop the signal but make it better???? If I squeze mine it shoots up to full and when I release it, it drops back down really low. If yours and your brothers are the same maybe try another channel
I think this may be the issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1708492

GPS/Navigation problem... app, mobile or something else?

Hi, I'm really not sure what to make of this problem so maybe you can help me out pinpointing the problem so I can take care of it. I've observed several things and don't know how to connect the dots, or if there's any connection, so let me list what I've been seeing:
1 - I've got TomTom to use on my car.
2 - Worked wonderfully well on the first week or so. Fast to lock onto satellites (10 to 20 seconds), accurate and stable without loosing the lock.
3 - I've noticed from day one that it tends to to locate me a few meters back than what I'm actually am, so if I come about two streets very near one another, the turn on the correct one is a bit hard to to tell without looking at the map.
4 - A week ago, the phone started to take longer to lock my position and won't keep it, it often loses connection with the satellites.
5 - Also, the problem is a lot worse if I stop. It might be accurate while I'm driving over 50mph but, if I stop, the direction I'm facing is lost and then my location. It will place me within 50m to 100m of where I am, which could mean on another street. It has become useless for the slow paced city driving, with red lights and slow traffic.
6 - I haven't changed ROMs or anything major but I have downloaded a few apps, might have taken a few others out, the usual stuff... I'm using Android Revolution HD 31.2.
7 - I've noticed that a lot of times, in regular mobile use, the GPS icon shows up trying to locate my position, even with GPS off. Might be that I have accepted Google's location request or is embedded on some app. Don't know if this has any relation to the workings of navigation or with the timeframe the problem occurred.
8 - A final though... I've always had this problem with standalone GPS devices... They work fine for a few weeks/couple of months and then they seem to deteriorate, having a hard time to locate my position, maintaining a good connection, etc. I have no idea on why this is or if there's some sort of cache I should be cleaning.
Oh, and this happens regardless of the weather... overcasted, rainy days or clear skies, it's all the same.
So any thoughts on how to pinpoint the source of the problem so I can fix it?
Cheers!
Renato

[Q] Intermittent WiFi Issues on 8.4 T700, Is This Common?

I've heard about nebulous "WiFi problems" but it doesn't seem like there's any authoritative information on what those problems are. In any case, I was wondering if anyone has experienced this:
This is easier to notice while using some kind of streaming service like YouTube, Netflix, or Hulu, but it's not tied to any specific app. While using the tablet for internet-related activity, every once in a while, the WiFi just stops working. The icon shows full WiFi signal bars, and it's still connected, but any and all attempts to use the wireless connection utterly fail. However, turning WiFi off, then back on, immediately fixes the problem. This happens randomly, as in, sometimes it will happen after 5-10 minutes of use, and other times, it won't happen for several hours.
The tablet is relatively new, has never been dropped or otherwise abused, and has the fitted OEM wraparound case on it. I'm at a loss to figure this out, and am close to just sending it back for a replacement. But I wanted to make sure this wasn't a semi-recognized problem before I did so. Especially since this feels like a software/kernel problem that could theoretically be fixed by installing a different ROM.
Thanks in advance!
