Notification tones and ringtones not sticking - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I am on a rooted stock s3 that isn't running a custom rom just stock twiz. Everytime i set my tones they reset after awhile or after a restart. I've tried moving the tones from my external sd to the internal but with no luck. I can't get off the stupid whistle . Anyone know why this is happening?

Maybe try; Messaging -> Settings (menu button) and notifications

Yeah i tried that but when i force the tone it doesn't stick either. I currently have it set to default to eliminate any possible confusion. Its like the phone loses the link to the tones. I can always rechoose the custom tones when they are reset so i don't know how to fix it.

You could try copying them to /system/media/audio/
I know you shouldn't have to but till you find a fix...

Thanks for the suggestions. The problem ended up being that llama was reseting my tones when certain things happened.

Custom notification ringtones

Has anyone had a problem when installing a custom message ringtone. I have the transformer sound and only a fraction of the ringtone will play, but when i use a stock ringtone works perfectly. Any ideas and thanks for the help.

I have found that in order to set notification ringtones other than the stock ones it has to be done from within the settings of the stock messaging app. :silly:
That is where I'm doing it. Works for a couple of rings then they start cutting off.

yep...me too..???
Try using Zedge app and apply it through settings... Just put the ringtone in the zedge folder, go to zedge settings, rescan folder and then apply the ringtone...
Thanks that works!

Under your messages click menu then scroll to notifications and un tick however you won't get any notifications if a incoming text

try a custom rom from the dev section. most of them have that function disabled. You will also still get your regular notification which is better than turning off your notifications
Use the AOSP messaging app

Go to settings/sound/volumes increase all volumes to max should be fine after.
As stated all settings are correct, including all the volume sliders

...so how did you solve it?
I Held down the power button and changed the sound profile to default

Shorten vibration for notifications

Anyone know how to make the vibrate shorter for things like sms without a separate sms app?
The whole vibrate for 4 seconds every time a message comes in is ridiculous. What a battery kill.

You have a custom vibration maker pre installed on your gn2

Yup, there are several presets as well as intensity settings and the option to bind with ring and to turn it off. Settings - sound

the vibration settings is only for calls. notifications always have the long vibration no matter which setting you select. i've read that light flow will do it but haven't tried it myself.

This reply was the only one related to my problem. I am stock rom no other custom apps for notifications. I wasnt talking about calls either. Just text/sms vibrations

can the stock sms App set individual ring tones for ppl? I can't figure out how if it can. I've been using handcent, but that shyt makes my phone reboot constantly during the sending process.

I'm not running 4.1.2, but it should be in the contact. Open contact, select a contact, select edit then select ringtone! Give it a try.
thanks, but that changes the ring tone for when they call as well. I just want it to for texts.
