Greetings,
after searching forums and market for a solution to play HD video using h/w acceleration on CM9 final - a DicePlayer was found.
Tried almost all players available on GPlay and that's the one.
Really, don't Vplayer or Real Player or Rock Player work? Rock Player contains an option for both software & hardware acceleration.

hw+ is a lie, its basicly just a batery friendlier sw mode.
Dice Player + UpnPlay = great HD streaming solution.

i just watched an AVI movie today using bsplayer lite, it free from market.
The other two players i have installed is Dice and Mobo. I kind of switched based on format.
So far I only watched avi and mkv. Using qqplayer as my primary movie player.

not sure, they all seems to be better for different formats. I have not found a favorite
I know this will sound like a crazy question but, is there any way to convert a movie directly on the phone?
MX Video Player
I use MX Video Player and it plays everything. Drop and drag movies, and play. Simple as that.
It also recognizes .SRT files too!
I also use Mx player. It is awesome. You can swipe to change subtitle time.

+1 MX Player. Love it.

MX players seems to be the consensus. Trying it meow
yeah mx movie player is the best I've used so far. No need to convert and I haven't found a format it doesn't play.

diceplayer ftw if you want to watch HD content.
don't know if mx player's been updated since but it would stutter when playing HD videos, prompting me to switch to diceplayer. full hw acceleration and smooth playback of 1080p mkv's.

+1 to DICE Player. Bought it when it was able to buy but the trial version is now a full-completed ad version. Couldn't be happier.
I prefer MP4 because the phone has a hardware decoder. Which probably saves some power.

Hello friends..
I want to know which is the best video player which can play mkv m4v and mp4? I tried player pro, mobo, double twist, and default.. Not evn one player can play those files.. I have 10 tb of hd movies.. Thought to watch them on arc s while sleeping :-D

I use Mobo Player. If a file doesn't play, you can force Software Rendering. That way, it played almost every file I threw at it.

yea,, i get mobo player suddenly stopped working error...and other players just say cant play this video format..
I think MX player is ok

Right now I believe the best player is MX Player's latest edition.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mxtech.videoplayer.pro
Dice Player is also good, but MX player rocks. It's the only one for me that can play 720p .mkv video files (series mostly).
yup...MX player did the trick..i watched two 1080p movies without any lag..well lil lag in b/w but nothing major Thanks guys for your response
BSPlayer?
Might wanna give BSPlayer a try - very similar to dice and mx but what I like about is that it automatically tries to fetch appropriate subs and that it actually works surprisingly well
Either way u can't really go wrong with these three.
I have already tried MX Player, Moboplayer, and Diceplayer, and all of them seem to lag while playing 720p mkv files. Are there any video players that can play without lag causing the audio and video to go out of sync?
Try mx again and turn audio to software decoding (not hardware). Fixed my sync issues.

I haven't tried it yet, but VLC player may be another option to look into.
If you are in North America, get VLC from here:
http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/armv7-android-neon/
Ita still beta but works pretty well from what I've seen.

Thanks for the link. I had sideloaded an outdated VLC Beta a while back since it's the only player that (for me) plays 1080p h/w accelerated with DTS audio outofthebox -- (DicePlayer does too, with a /sdcard/libffmpeg.so plugin) -- and hadn't updated in a while.
you might want to give mVideoPlayer a go as well!
pls guide me yo find best one pls....
I can't decide between BS Player and MX Player so I use both. Paid versions. Good luck finding best one for you.

i used mxplayer but switched to diceplayer as it lets you play in pop-out video while checking e-mail etc
BSplayer can play video in "external mode", so everywhere, while you are surfing, reading email etc... and you can resize, pause or clse the video.
MXplayer doesnt provide this feature.

BSPlayer, by far.
Mkv at 1080p with audio DTS, flawlessly.
I bought bs player pro, but had problems with it in 4.2, dice player is what I'm using now for smb streaming

I use vplayer

I use BS Player because it read everything well and has a LAN Mode. But the UI is horrible.
My combo: BSplayer (soft decode) for WMV + DICE Player for everything else
i was wondering if anybody knows of a video player for the one X that supports the companion core.
i know the HTC video app supports it but it's utterly useless (250+ video's and no titles, yea good luck find what your looking for) so are there any alternative players that fully support the tegra 3 SOC?
Great question. I am also interested in apps that support the full tegra 3 functionality (like companion/quad core).
so by overwhelming response i guess no such player exists at this time
What about MX Player, dunno if that's what you want but I love it as my video player
