Video playback choppy

I recently used VLC to rip my copies of LoTR to my PC (which I then placed on my GS2). I used the default settings in VLC to rip LoTR and it looks great on my PC. Yet the playback on the GS2 is very choppy. Anyone have any ideas on what to do or if this is the correct place for this question or even if this has been discussed in some way. Thanks

What video player you using??
MXvideo player seems to work fine(some vids have no audio) as well as Vplayer, the new Vplayer seems to support HW accel on our devices ...

Both MX and Vplayer. As well as qq, regular player, and mplayer seem to choppy. Maybe it is how I ripped it. But the GS2 should play regular mp4 just fine...

what type of movie format galaxy uses?
i want to watch movies on my galaxy nexus im just wondering what type of format it plays
avi
mpeg
etc?

From what i've tested
mp4, mkv works with stock video player
avi - doesnt work with stock

so i have to download a app ?
and wat is the app called ? the best one

i just watched an AVI movie today using bsplayer lite, it free from market.
The other two players i have installed is Dice and Mobo. I kind of switched based on format.

So far I only watched avi and mkv. Using qqplayer as my primary movie player.

not sure, they all seems to be better for different formats. I have not found a favorite

I know this will sound like a crazy question but, is there any way to convert a movie directly on the phone?

MX Video Player
I use MX Video Player and it plays everything. Drop and drag movies, and play. Simple as that.
It also recognizes .SRT files too!

I also use Mx player. It is awesome. You can swipe to change subtitle time.

yeah mx movie player is the best I've used so far. No need to convert and I haven't found a format it doesn't play.

diceplayer ftw if you want to watch HD content.
don't know if mx player's been updated since but it would stutter when playing HD videos, prompting me to switch to diceplayer. full hw acceleration and smooth playback of 1080p mkv's.

+1 to DICE Player. Bought it when it was able to buy but the trial version is now a full-completed ad version. Couldn't be happier.

I prefer MP4 because the phone has a hardware decoder. Which probably saves some power.

MX Video player is the VLC of android.
Has played every file type I have thrown at it.

mx player is amazing on galaxy nexus with full screen and subtitle !
dont try mobo amazing player but not full screen !!

best video player for nexus 7

I can't decide between BS Player and MX Player so I use both. Paid versions. Good luck finding best one for you.

i used mxplayer but switched to diceplayer as it lets you play in pop-out video while checking e-mail etc

BSplayer can play video in "external mode", so everywhere, while you are surfing, reading email etc... and you can resize, pause or clse the video.
MXplayer doesnt provide this feature.

I found Dice WITH the use of an externel ffmpeg lib (nathan118 to be more specific) to be the best one for me (read here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1769799)

in fact like others i use both
i have got no problem with video format in BSplayer.

I use diceplayer because with the plug in I can play files with DTS sound

I recommend super video the video floats over your current task its also resizable n the best thing about it is its free!!!

BSPlayer, by far.
Mkv at 1080p with audio DTS, flawlessly.

I bought bs player pro, but had problems with it in 4.2, dice player is what I'm using now for smb streaming

DicePlayer is my favourite. Smooth and you can activate Plugins if you need to.

I use BS Player because it read everything well and has a LAN Mode. But the UI is horrible.

My combo: BSplayer (soft decode) for WMV + DICE Player for everything else

I am testing this on my GNII by playing video files from a NAS share on my local network and it's just tearing through every kind of video format perfectly, even mkv with DTS embedded.

It works but it stopps playing have to restart player

Well it's just a nightly beta at this point, so you gotta expect some bugs. No doubt the final release will be more polished. But, damn, it's the mighty VLC media player, finally coming to Android! FWIW, I first read about it here: http://www.ghacks.net/2012/12/14/vlc-media-player-for-android/

I was waiting 4 vlc player 2 then I found this player, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2028547. I'm watching videos that usually only work on vlc player w/ subtitles, try it.

VLC has been my favorite video player for years. Can't wait for this to be fully supported on our android devices.

Gs3 stock video player can play mkv file. You can try vplayer and MXplayer

MX Player hasn't failed me yet. Smooth playback using the software renderer rather than the hardware rendering for some reason though. Anyways, it works very well.

This would be my suggestion as well.

There's also Rockplayer, it's been awhile since I've used it but it did the job well. Has the most used video and audio codecs embeded.
Also, the stock video player will play the mkv files as long as it has the supported audio codec, can't recall the exact one...
