Is my phone really rooted? - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have just reset my phone using the option in privacy settings, then I cannot root again using doomlord tools (it hangs at "waiting for device"). I tried to install superuser and somehow I can run apps require root privileges now, is my phone really rooted? Is it possible that the phone is already rooted and resetting does not un-root it?

Look for answers in the forum where you got the info to root. If you can ran titanium backup or cwm you are rooted, although you should have superuser app somewhere.
Be careful where you go from from here. If you cannot determine if you are rooted or not by yourself, you need a lot more reading and research before getting into this deeper

There's many root checker apps on the play store, just download one of those.

Troubleshooting z4root

I have an Evo and tried to use z4root to temporarily root it so I can use Titanium Backup. z4root says it is rooted, but TB says it cannot get root permissions.
How can I troubleshoot z4root to see why it's failing?
I don't want to do a factory reset to use z4root, because the point to using it and TB is to backup my phone the way it is so if I ever DO have to do a factory reset I don't have to reconfigure/reinstall everything from scratch.
Do you have busy box installed? It's available in titanium backup and that might help.

I had the same exact issues.

are you using any kind of antivirus on your phone? You could also try using a task killer before hand
Busybox is installed. No antivirus. I did a reboot, which should kill any tasks not normally running on the phone.
I'm not familiar with how z4root works so maybe it doesn't give enough permission for titanium backup to work. I really don't know why that wouldn't work though.
When it fails you have to restart you're phone before trying again or it is guaranteed to fail.
If you post your logcat it may show something

[Q] Rooted but no Superuser

I have an AT&T S3. I've rooted my phone using the Toolkit 2.3. In an attempt to make ISIS work, I unrooted my phone using Super SU. ISIS didn't work, so I rerooted using the toolkit. Now, the phone is rooted, Autorun Manager Pro recognizes root, but Titanium Backup, Permissions Pro, and the like show that my phone is not rooted. I also don't have the Superuser app. WTF am I doing incorrectly?

"S-On?"

I rooted my Note2 and have root access, but I think I'm missing something... I reset my phone and the system apps reset themselves. On my Glacier you had to turn security off to keep it from happening, and I was wondering what needs to be done to prevent it on this device.
All I did was root, install cwm, then install Su. Does it have to do with deodexing? I'm unfimiliar with what it means and would appreciate some guidance in the right direction.

HTC devices. Do a little more reading and you'll find the difference, I find Sammy devices are a lot easier to play with compared to HTC, having owned several of both.

There is no such thing as S-on and S-off on Samsung devices as they already ship with an unlocked bootloader. If you are doing a factory reset on any phone, all of the system apps should be wiped as well, so I don't really understand your question.

Don't worry, I understand what you're talking about.
Started happening with the Galaxy S3 on T-Mobile as well since the most recent JB update
You "freeze" an app in Titanium Backup, and it freezes just fine, but after the very next reboot that app is back in action and active in the background. Very frustrating, I know.
The two apps I noticed this with were T-Mobile's My Account app and Zynga games (really??)
Here's the solution - uninstall the offending apps. That'll teach em!
Uninstalling works just fine, but for example when I install the older version of YouTube (which I prefer over the new) and restart my phone, the version it ships with is reinstalled.
Also, when I flash a zip that installs the apk into the system app folder, it gets wiped after a reboot.

I know that there were two files you had to remove to prevent reboots from reflashing stock recovery, I would imagine this is the same thing - problem is, I don't know what files to remove (I don't have the Note 2 yet so I can't go poking around to look for them)
But I am sure you can find/remove them.
This is why I stick with CM10, I can't stand the control T-Mobile and Samsung try to maintain on our devices
I can't find the info! BTW, the search function on the mobile app is not very good. Haha

there is no s-on or s-off for samsung, thats just a htc thing. you root, install cwm w/ Su and you're done.

[Q] Need help since I'm new to Sammy

Earlier this week my Sensation 4g died. I bought a Note 2. Little did I know that there were issues with it that I and others have with it, ie: no easy immediate way to do app to sd for instance. Another thing I wanted was to be able to add or take away data from installed apps by connecting the phone to a computer via usb and accessing the files that way, which again doesn't happen without some work.
Since then I have rooted the phone (according to the download mode screen, which says: current binary and system status is custom.
I have left everything stock except for the rooting part and installed Superuser and SuperSU and then tried to run Titanium Backup (free) when it said 'could not access root using \something\something\su command".
I have tried several other apps and methods of trying to do what I want (from the first paragraph) but none have succeeded either due lack of documentation (and I didn't know how to do a certain step or fix something) or it just didn't work.
So where am I at now? I have factory reset my phone and am now honestly not sure where to go or what to do from here. I've Googled and Googled but nothing quite seems to be able to fix what I need and if it does then it has the lack of documentation and can't help me.
Any thoughts or guides or something that anyone could post/link to? Thanks.

If I'm not mistaken but kernels don't deal with being able to save apps to sd. I could be wrong since I don't dabble in android dev. Thanks though.
We need background... 1st of all...
What way did you use to root (Cf_auto_root, Stock-root injected, etc)?
Does your phone still have exynos_exploit or did your phone come with that "OTA Update" pre installed?
What SD card are you using?
What rom/kernal are you trying to run?
Most of the time, in this particular forum, its seems best to just ask what your trying to accomplish within the various rom/kernal thread...
Like lets say im on Stick injected rom/kernal without extsd2internalsd (apps2sd) setup and lets say I want to go to Jedi Master 9.... I would then go to Jedi Master 9 thread and ask for help on how to effectively apply that rom with ExtSd2internalsd support from my current setup, and wait for the OP or seniors to reply... also while "patiently waiting" I would read/search through the hundreds of pages looking for answers/insights to my particular process... if needed might go to my own root process thread and ask for advice on how to get to jedi master 9
Id be more than willing to help you here but need some background on your phones current status and end rom/kernal to provide an answer (to be sure I dont lead you awry

Thanks. I did answer that I am running everything stock at the moment, just rooted, no kernel or rom. I have an 8gb class 4 microsd card. My root method was cf auto root. I also stated what I was hoping to achieve also (in my first paragraph). Hopefully this helps.
Oh, if possible I'd like the easiest way to remove or disable system apps like chat on or some of the tmobile stuff. I tried a couple different methods with that too but couldn't quite get it all to work.
I tried the qtadb app but couldn't get my device to be seen by the program on the computer and i tried that app because I had no idea where to start with regular adb, its been a long time since i've done any of this stuff.
To remove or disable system apps I use root uninstaller, sometimes it won't delete system apps on the first try just exit the app go back and do it again second attemt will do, for your data problem I'll try root browser or root Explorer

I always remove bloatware through Titanium Backup or with a debloated rom

Doesn't that just lead back to my first problem of not being able to get Titanium Backup to run on my phone?
Are you sure your rooted (root checker)? I honestly havent heard of anyone else being unable to install rooted apps (unless they werent rooted (those people generally rerooted to solve that issue)

Well it turns out you can download and install apps requiring root but they just wont run correctly, if at all. I know because after my factory reset, i downloaded and ran 2 root checker apps, both of which said I no longer have root or something. So now I'm just going through the rooting process again.
Edit: I'm not rooted again, as checked by 2 root confirmation apps. Now to try to get TB running and remove bloatware.
Edit 2: Great success! I got TB to work, bought PRO and have just frozen everything i dont need or dont use.

[Q] Root problem in 4.3

Hi everyone,
As the title says I have been testing around some apps that needs root access to be able to open them. Before with the MJ5 leak update everything was fine. Some of the apps works, and others just don't work. For example: Game Killer, GameCih and similars, don't work, the app just freeze and shows that need root access. Apps like Titanium Backup, Wanam Xposed, Root Browser, etc, works.
I tried re-rooting manually via odin but it was still having the same problem. I see that no one has said anything about this problem so I guess that I'm probably one of the few that has it.
If there any fix for this?
Thanks in advance
Anyone? ?
