Wifi death grip - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi,
I've had my GSM galaxy nexus for about a week now and have noticed that the signal strength will drop consistently when touching the back of the phone.
This is usually by one bar on the status bar meter. I've installed Wifi Analyzer and see that the signal will drop from around -55 dBm to -70 dBm when fully covering the back. The drop will be smaller with less of the back of the phone covered, but is still noticeable. The worst area for causing signal drop seems to be just below the camera lens.
Is this common to the galaxy nexus, or is there something unusual about this particular one?

I am not really seeing my signal fluctuate. I am using the GSM version.

Your just holding the phone wrong, try using a case.

Had this problem too, but it's not an issue to me.

Steve Jobs resurrected?
I noticed some signal weakness (both wifi and calls) since i updated to jelly bean. I guess we'll have to wait for a better radio than XXLF1.

I notice this also. I have the GSM version. When I'm at work or home my wifi and cell signal will go away or say its looking for network when holding it at certain spots. Its really making me miss my sgs2 because my wifi and data would load faster with that then this.

Hmm, I don't see the word Apple anywhere on the phone..

Was having issues with XXLF1, ever since is swapped to UGLH1 reception for WiFi and 3G have been really good. I have some bad interferences at home (blame that on the carrier I'm not on) , but once outside it works great.
Do bear in mind radio has differences across devices, so what works force may not work for you.

Weak Wifi signal on stock

I am using 4.0.2 stock version and wifi signals are pretty weak. Is there any tweak or some settings i can flash to get better wifi reception . . .
I am having the same problem. Out of 5 phones in the hotel lobby (HTC Desire, HTC Wildfire, Iphone 4 and Nokia N97) my Galaxy Nexus had the weakest signal, and sometime even lost the wlan.
I notice wifi signal drop when i cover the top part of my nexus with my hand
tested in speedtest, it also shows slightly lower signal bars, are you using a wireless N router?
Try flashing different basebands to see if signal improves. Also, I recommend franco's milestone 2 kernel since it has a setting to amplify your wi-fi signal (at the expense of lower battery life)
I don't have this problem in fact my wifi speeds are insane

The WLAN antenna is to the middle right of the phone when you look at the display in portait mode.
If I make sure that area is not covered by my hands the reception is quite ok with my Nexus.

I took an old router and made it a repeater bridge, problem solved.

I find the radio on the phone is quite weak to begin with. iPhone lasts much longer out of town where I live.

Horrible wifi signal on SIII

I have my macbook and PS3 upstairs and they both get full bars. My SIII barely gets 1 bar and disconnects sometimes. I have tried going into service mode (*#0011#) and doing that trick but that does nothing for my phone.
Any help??? Really disappointed about this. My Nokia N8 which was a horrible phone was getting full bars as well.
I am sort of in the same boat. My WiFi works great but my d3o case makes my signal weaker. If I am close to a router it's not an issue. Up stairs most of the time it's still functional.if need be I either take of case or use data

Bad wifi signal?

Anyone else experiencing really poor wifi signal? I'm literally a couple feet away from the access point and my signal strength looks to be under 50%

My wife and I do not have that problem at all.

This happened with my note 1. Try pressing down on the antenna pad. If your signal gets better, you have a loose connection. Unfortunately you need to open the phone to fix it. The little springs that make contact are staying compressed and not bouncing up to make contact.
The Note 2 may use a similar design.
The note 1 has the wifi antenna as a sticker next to the sum card slot
I had same symptoms. More than a foot away, lose half signal. Leave the room, 1 bar. Other end of the house, nothing.
Even a range extender didn't help.
Bent the spring back up making good contact, full bars everywhere.

GPS inaccuracy

Just got the one a couple of days ago and I noticed that in things like Ingress and Maps, the GPS is not quite accurate. So much so it is 50 to 150+ feet off. Even standing still, the GPS will think I am moving.
I have everything enabled in the Location settings, is there something else I should look at??
Thanks.

My GPS is working fine so far. It's accurate to about 10-15 feet, which I think is par for phones. Are you using a case with the phone that could be distorting the GPS signal? Metal roof, anything of that nature?

Nope, no case on the phone. I noticed the problem while riding in the car. I wouldnt think it would be an issud there since my wifes S4 works ok in the same pkace.

Just opened up maps now, it's got me about right...technically has me outside the house, but I am close to the wall so /shrug. You might want to check the sprint/att/tmobile forums in case it's just a quirk of the HTC One itself but I can't say I've seen any trouble in the short time I've been using it.

WiFi strength, range, and throughput

Rate this thread to express how you think the OnePlus 3's Wifi performs. A higher rating indicates that it has excellent range, throughput, and signal strength. Like when you're taking a dump in the bedroom upstairs, do your videos have to buffer or do they come through without interruption?
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
wifi is bad. check wifi anlyzer put hand between router and phone camera and watch how it gets lower and lower as time passes. really sad
As i can see in YouTube wifi speed can't reach any further than 70MB/s. Why? Software? Or wifi chip sucks?

Using 5ghz I'm getting nearly 200Mbps download on my OP3. Haven't tested 2.4ghz yet.
Here are the WiFi Analyser screenshots with and without hands over back cam. I was sitting very close to the router (~1m).

Can anyone confirm this? Thanks.

I just tried it out, the WiFi signal was getting worse but not as worse as in his video. Still somehow ****ty.
Didn't the iPhone have a similar problem? People's hands were shorting out the antennas causing dropped calls, etc.
A simple case should fix the problem (really, why wouldn't you use a case anyways?). And if you don't want the bulk or whatever you can try one of those full body screen protectors, should solve the problem of shorting the antennas AND provide scuff protection.

3.1.3.
Here's a test I just ran...Netflix is streaming on two screens right now, so it's a touch lower than usual.

My router is downstairs and I am upstairs. OOS 3.1.3. 5ghz.
Absolutely terrible...Always drops out
Wifi is doing pretty okay here on 5Ghz, its dropping sometimes though.
On my previous Nexus 5X I've had much better Wi-Fi reception.
OP3 gets about -8 or -10 more on Wifi Analyzer compared to my OPO when held side by side, definitely a bit worse.
Yeah. I noticed that OP3 under wifi doesn't work really well. Infact with just 1 wall in middle of me and router the signals drops from 20mbps to 6mbps.
Bad, really bad!
Nowhere near as good as my OnePlus One, disappointingly
Yes, if one wants to point out THE one weak point of the phone, it's not the display, it's not video recording - it's clearly the weak WiFi.
Honestly I feel as if my wifi speeds have been stronger than my note 4. 5ghz is nice and speedy
My OnePlus 3 is also giving the signal strength problem, sometimes it shows only 1 bar within 2-5 meteres from the router.
