Help !! - HTC One V

Guys I don't know much about this phone, I have an Xperia s, but I want to buy this phone for a relative of mine.. He's not gonna play a lot of games, only angry birds
Also only usage would be for making and receiving calls, no messaging, hardly any surfing and no any rooting stuff. Camera use is seldom, prime use would be calling.. He likes this phone as it is good looking and cheap with the HTC brand and ics!! He loves HTC sense ui, is it too laggy on this phone??
And Is it worth buying ??
Use the thank button, it's there for a reason

Do you need a smartphone for this?

One V will easily surpass your requirements. What surprises me is why he need a smartphone at all !!! Get any phone in sub 350$ range for that kind of use. You can also try htc wildfireS or if he is ready to wait, he can opt for the upcoming Desire X which has 4.0'' screen (angry birds will really look angry on that!) if particular with the sense UI. Xperia Neo L is another option for the same range outside HTC.
One V is worth its price. But I am not sure whether your requirements justify buying a smartphone itself.

[Q] If you are upgrading your phone, I'd like to know why? And what would you buy?

I owned a Motorola Milestone, then sold it to a friend when I bought the Desire. I flashed my Desire with a few vanilla ROMs and couldn't stand it. I needed to have Sense UI cuz otherwise it looked JUST LIKE MY OLD PHONE.
For the same reason, why would HTC keep updating an 'old' phone when they can sell you a new one? Else everyone would just update their phones and to f*** with new devices. Right now, I could buy a Desire HD/Z etc buut I have the ROM running smoothly on my Desire so...why bother?
So as the topic says:
If you are upgrading your phone, I'd like to know why?
And what would you buy?
If you're phone was broken/lost/stolen there is no need to reply. It's obvious
why you needed a new phone
If I was to update my Desire, I would do it only to get a phone with true multi-touch.. Its the only thing that kinda annoys me.. Not that I play games so much, except the Angry Birds ofcourse.. But yeah.. that would be the only reason why I would upgrade..
The dual core CPU's dont convince me either.. My Snapy is doing its job really well..

Hmm well I ran the Multitouch test from the app market and my screen tracks just fine until you cross axes. Never considered this (probably cuz it never has been an issue for me, oh wait! Angry birds!) thanx.
Better camera would be cool and a second one for the face to do videochat etc. Better battery(usage) would be an important factor too.
Still, dont have the money to upgrade anyway and i dont think e.g. the Nexus S is good enough (camera/battery) to justify the update.
.
id wait for the new htc dual core phones
one of the biggest dual core pluses is improved battery life when doing something other than idling
Good info, good good. Dual core would be a plus to wait for...

[Q] if someone can help me decide

First of all, I don't know if I've started the thread in the right place....if I haven't...my apologise...
Hi guys, I'm in a dilemma.
1) some one's selling his Desire (6 month warranty left, hasn't been opened yet, void stickers intact, good condition overall) for about Rs. 12.5K (approx $ 250)
2) I also have my eyes on Sony ericsson Live with walkman (I am a music lover) (around the same price)
Should i get a used Desire or a Brand new SE.... I know both the phones are world apart....
i can't seem to find a clear winner in low specced new phone v/s Great specced old phone..
Thx guys.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Why would you get that SE... the Desire will do what it does + 100x more...

Desire gives you the flexibility of making your custom ROM and customize based on your needs. I always vote for Desire. Have the Desire to buy Desire.
thx guys for all ur help. I finally own a HTC Desire now. however I find the battery drains very fast.....
1) in some threads they say, turn off phone and charge for 8 hrs..then turn it on 2hrs etc.. does that trick work.
2) some forums say that using Juice defender, likewise apps drains ur battery....should apps like those be kept running in ur phone...YES or NO.
3) I implemented few things i found here and there to improve the battery life...screen brightness etc (mentioned at may sites).....do u guys want to share some ideas for the same?
The battery saving roms are mostly AOSP roms. If you are rooted or planning on rooting, those roms are worth checking out. You can also go and undervolt using custom kernels but I'm not sure how well that is going to work with you since it seems that you'll use your device as a music player and that usually require a bit more work for the processor.

There's a How To in General that delves deeply into the recalibration of the battery. Which you do depends on whether you have root (you can clear the battery stats) or not. If not the first post may help you.

Desire!! Think abou the supporting community
I'm loving every bit of my desire........Great a chose it over SE. However, I feel the music quality could have been better

Just bought a Sensation XE.

Hi,
My Desire is rooted running GingerVillain 3.3. It has only a few programs installed, & is not as responsive as the Sensation XE, which is still running stock ROM.
I'm still keeping my Desire though. I like my Desire a lot, but to me the XE is an upgrade. So, if you are on a fence of switching, DO IT!!!

Yeah I really do not understand why these phone manufacturers are trying to force people to use smartphones that wouldnt even fit in our pockets. Who started this idea anyway?
If I want a bigger screen I'll buy a tablet. I dont need a smartphone-tablet hybrid of sort.

I to been looking at the sensation XE,, but luv the size of me desire,, if the desire was true multi touch I don't think I'd upgrade, but I like to game on me phone i.e shadowgun, real racer 2 as these work fine enough to play shadowgun can become a struggle with out true multi touch,, as forcing me too now look at upgrades,, bonus of a new phone like XE thou is HDMI to TV link...

yup. I do agree that the size of the Desire is perfect. Thats why I'm still keeping it as a secondary phone.
I'm a type of guys who dont play games much on the phone, & dont regularly browse the internet. so, I HATE big phones. & the Sensation XE is big for my liking, but it's such a pleasure to use. & not too bad after awhile. I'm gonna enjoy it until the new quadcore phones released.
I'm afraid that the new HTC quad-core phones will increase in size comparing to the Sensation XE. I hope im wrong though.

I couldn't feel more different. I have to admit I love this trend. Sensation display size is not humongous as it is only 4.3 inches, in fact it seems the norm among upcoming and dual core phones.
Agree with you, on the the last point. I resent those hybrids phone/tablet devices such as Samsung galaxy note which are a bit extreme.
My Desire is almost two years old and lot of things have changed. I find it too small now as crazy as it sounds.
The only phones that I would upgrade to atm are Desire S (but it's not enough of an upgrade and I love my amoled screen...) and iPhone 4S.
I have been doing a bit of research for the iPhone, I like the polish of the GUI and most things, but... I would have to jailbreak it immediately, since there's no tasker-like software for the stock iPhone and SMS client is too limited.
I use GO Sms and private conversations a lot!
There is an app called My Profiles that offers similar functionality as tasker on the iPhone, but - you have to jailbreak it...
So, I guess no iPhone atm for me, it's just too limited...
Now, my Desire, after more than 2 years works perfectly and does more things than I have ever imagined a smartphone would do. And it does them with no lag.
Terepin, your phone is just too big for my taste. Have tried one, it's ok, but nothing special. I still prefer my old Desire.
Bought an XE but still keeping the Desire. The Desire still has lots of fight left in it and it's been a wonderful phone The XE (for me) is just the powerhouse when the Desire struggles (like playing GTA III).
I think the sensation xe will be next for me but will always have my old faithful Desire as a backup!
got Desire, fast, reliable and perfect size. Thinking about Sensation XE, but bother me size.
SD card slot...
the new HTC phone are juts mango phones with andriod on them , hence as MS dont like SD cards , nor do these phones.
My 32 GB card works wonderfully in my desire...
If you have a good phone like the sensations with SD card slot etc.. and 4 core ( eg much faster then my desire ) I'd be happy.. right now...
I have a cheep 10" tablet for web / email etc... ( that's been tweaked within an inch of its life )
Got my xe (upgrade from desire). Already rooted ics with beats .... So fast am so happy no game to big lol...

The only problem I have with the desire is the RAM. and the Sensation doesn't have much more ram ..
I like what Samsung does by putting 1 GB ram in all of their Flagships ..
Got desire recently and have sgs2 for long time and most of phones in my signature... Hunting HTC Titan, not because of screen size nor because of best WP7 device, HD7 was priority but now... I use Desire as main phone, and sgs2 as tablet or something like that.... Cool phone this desire good hardwer nice UI and from me grade 9/10 because low support from HTC i see and age... Cheers mates

well, don't go on the same road i went on, I bought a samsung wave, thinking the vivid colors and hd recording was the real deal, instead after a month or two the hype ended and it became boring.
lack of applications and poor policies of sammies(like no VoIP for BADA OS , no multitasking) made me hate it…same thing will happen to the N9 it is doomed from the start (or least it’s platform) and you think developers would care to make apps for that kind of a niche product and OS
I switched to a Xperia Arc , and it rocked me like a hurricane
I have used the EVO 3D it’s fun but you’ll switch to 2d most of the time rather than 3d(3d photos max out at 2mp I think..not sure) but it’s impressive …but not as sexy as me ARC
but do what you like ….it’s your life, you make the rules

[Q] {{Q}}Should I buy HTC one x or not?

Hi there , i'm new member here , nice to meet all of the professional......
REMARK : My English is very bad.
Erix got a question keep suffering , should i buy htc one x ? Because i'm using Sony ericsson xperia arc for 1 year + , and this phone gave me alot of bad feeling and bad experiences... ,
Example 1 : Phone easily to get heat up when calling or playing games in about 1 mins .
Example 2 : Phone easily to get lag or hang when opening contact, dialer , facebook and many more apps...
How am i going to keep use it when it was like holding a hot chocolate bar and stick with my ear for listening ...
A phone that i want is whenever i touch the dial or contact logo , it will come out quickly and won't lag . The most important is not getting heat easily or over heat....
So , should i buy htc one x or not? because i'm worry after i bought it , it is also gv a the same feeling and experince like xperia arc , then i will feel more regret and wasted money...
pls help~~~

I think you should get the Htc one x, s3 or nexus 4.
These are all good phones i think.
I own a htc one x and i love it, its does not lag at all and its quad core! fastest thing i have ever owned but sometimes it can over heat a little when playing on it for a long time (1hr) It does not heat up loads or very hot i don't think.
Overall i would get it if your like watching movies and games because its quad core and has a perfect size screen.
Or get the nexus 4 or s3
Hope this helps

Actually i seldom use phone for play games or watch Video , if got are just a few mins in a half and hours. ....
The function i used the phone on android phone are just calling , i don want the phone get heat up easily in at least half and hours, and open the contact book or dial without lag and hang.
At the beginning ,I decide to buy a iPhone 5 coz it gv us without any worrys of lag and hang plus stable and smooth. IPhone got everything good , except it is not customizable(sharing using Bluetooth, nfc , free apps ) ,unless we jailbreak it.
Last , if htc one x not easily to get heat up in a half-hour when calling , i would buy it. .....

DO NOT buy it.
I thought a lot before going for the HOX and now I regret it. I didn't have the infamous wifi problem but I had a broken speaker about a month later. And now I"m having screen not truning on problem. I cannot answer calls or anything until it takes it merry time to turn on whenever it feels like. I had a Desire before and it had no problem. I took a leap of faith with this one. Not anymore.
There is no reason to go for a HOX when you have phones like N4. Do not get this.
Don't buy it. This is my 5th HTC device. And I regret it. It's a nice handset and I've had no problems, but I am annoyed at the way the firmware updates for JB are being managed/locked down, as I have a branded device.
I am very disappointed. This will be my last HTC device.
then what should i buy ? i really hate to keep using this **** xperia arc , everytime use it to calling , the feeling is like burning my ears ,somemore like get radiation. ....fcuk......

Erm, i have the same question but for different uses...
i will be gaming alot, watching movies and loads of other multimedia stuff... heating of phone wont matter...
but ofcourse, il be running a AOSP ROM like CM or something...
what i need is something that will keep getting the latest versions of Android (Unofficially will do)...
since the One X shares its chipset with the nexus 7, i feel it wont have any issues running latest Android versions?
had considered the Nexus 4 but it seems to have way too many issues with its hardware... buzzing speakers, cracking glass, battery draining...
dont wanna buy something that defective and delicate...
what do you suggest? should i buy this device?
Samsung galaxy s3 is the perfect choice. My htc one x is usually getting hot after 15 minutes playing game or browsing. S 3 is the number 1 of selling smartphone nowdays
