Google Play Music can't find any music files since I flashed JB.
ICS is OK.
Other 3rd party app works fine, such as TTPlayer.
All music are in sdcard\music.

I had this before.. You should check your sdcard for ".nomedia" files scattered all over the place.
You shouldn't have one in the root directory and you definitely shouldn't have it in your music folder.
These files tells Android's Media Manager not to scan for media files in such directory. IIRC, TTPlayer (and others) do not use Media Manager to get information about media files. These files are useful if put in the correct directories.
I read somewhere that Rom Manager app put this file in the sdcard's root for no (known to me) reason. Dunno.
Yes. A botched update to ROM Manager put these files in the wrong directory (SDcard root). An update was released soon after to fix that. Just delete the .nomedia file in SD root folder and you should be fine.

Yes. just create a file entitled ".nomedia" and copy to those folders you want to exclude. As far as I remember, you have to reboot to make it work. That's all!

Create a blank text file called .nomedia then stick a copy of this in all the folders you DON'T want to appear in the music player.
That's how I understand it anyway, haven't tried it so I might be wrong!

Yes. An empty .nomedia file should be in every directory on your SD card which you don't want to include in your music player/photo viewer.
I attached a zip file with the .nomedia if you want it. Just extract it to necessary folders.

thanks a lot!!!
You could also install a player that allow you to specify directories that hold music. Mortplayer is such a player. Available from Marked.
I prefer to use the stock music player because I like to use the widget but
having to add a file to all directories is a bit of a pain ,
So I just downloaded mortplayer , and it works fine but you would think
you would be able to play only music from the mp3 folder by default or at least
given an option by the htc music player

have you tried Mixzing? i quite like this one and you can actually specify what directorys to use for music.
i quite like this play... tried quite a few.
As the title mentioned, after I've done full wipe + flash ARHD 3.2 ROM (twice) the problem still persist. I can well play the song individually if selected from Astro File Manager but those songs just won't show up in HTC Music App. Any idea what might have caused it ?
Do you have a .nomedia file anywhere in the path to your music folder?

I have no problems with music app detecting songs. Place all your musics under the folder "Music" in the root of your sdcard.

Hi,
I have an issue with migrating from 4.0.4 (AOKP) to 4.1.1 (XenonHD, stock, JellyBean, etc)... Suddenly after update all media files disappeared. I thought that I've lost them during the update, but I found them using the Root Explorer - it's still in appropriate folders on SDCARD folder (DCIM, 100ANDRO, Camera, Music, etc).
But why gallery doesn't see anything (except some icons/pictures in some folders)???
And the same for music, for example tool for assigning music on ringtones or notifications which comes together with GO SMS also doesn't see any music MP3 files!!!! Why??? Can anybody answer me, what's going on?

Look in folder DCIM, if it have .nomedia file then delete it U can also downgrade to 4.0.4 to see if it happen? Do you wipe everything. U must wipe if go from 4.0.4 to 4.1.1
1. I've made full wipe before flash.
2. There are no ".nomedia" file
Any other ideas? Does anybody face the same?

Do you have RomManager installed?
Check the root of your sdcard for ".nomedia" (Note that it's a hidden file, so make sure you have Root Explorer set to show hidden files).
If you have it, and you have rommanager installed, make sure to update to the latest rommanager, and then delete the .nomedia file and reboot your phone.
If you don't have rommanager installed, but you have a .nomedia file at the root of your sdcard, delete it and reboot your phone.
I'm also having the same issue when I upgraded to 4.0.4
I recall seeing the ".nomedia" file but after I rooted my phone I can't find it anymore. If I move my media files to my externalSD it works but unfortunately 2GB just isn't enough to hold my movies, music, and pictures.
Edit: I've located several .nomedia files on the phone. I've deleted them and rebooted my phone. Still not fixed.

Exactly the same problem. Started with a stock G'Nex with 4.0.4 installed (flashed everything back to factory and locked the boot loader), waited for the OTA update to 4.1.1, updated then transferred some music files up to /sdcard/music and then.... nothing, no music found by Play Music/Rocket Player/MixZing/whatever....
The only .nomedia file I can find in the /sdcard are in /sdcard/android/data. Deleting that plus clearing data in media storage followed by a reboot does nothing.
Looking for clues!.....

Try this. Connect it to your computer then use search to find all nomedia files. Reboot see if its fixed. If not then use kies to copy from internal SD to external then back to internal. A bit of a pain but after that its fine and dandy

Went to play some music this morning and it's all "gone", and checked gallery for images and it's the same. A solution would be great. I've been using this rom for ages and haven't changed anything?
I'm using cyanogen 10.2 on my sgh-i317 and recently downloaded an album (320kbps/mp3) through utorrent. It downloaded it to my download folder on sdcard 0. I then moved the folder to my music folder on my external sd and listened to a few songs off of it. When I got up the next day, the music files were not there. So, I downloaded it again on my PC and then transferred it to the same folder on my external sd along with another album from my collection. Both albums do not show up on the sd, either through ES file explorer or Apollo. The only notification I got was in windows when I was transferring them. It said something along the lines of these files may not be compatible with your device do you still want to copy them. I selected 'do this for all current items' and then clicked proceed. All my previous music files give me no problem and I'm having a hard time getting to the bottom of what is causing this. Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
Storage/emulated/0/extsdcard or some such nonsense.

Yes I know where they're supposed to be. I'm saying the folders are empty. They are there and I've even played some of the tracks and then they just disappear.
DRM issue with the player?
Is this for every type of file or just these?
Can you see the files when you are connected to a PC?
I need to know how to change the destination for a specific apps download directory for music.
Another words If a specific application is able to download music to a directory such as internal mem or flash drive ,how can I go about changing the location of storage it actually puts the downloads into as in not manually one by one But for every song download from there on out . The joying 4.4.2 unit I can't find where my music's are downloading too. So I want to with root or without root change where it files them. This doesn't mean placing the app somewhere but only redirecting music downloads to my flash drive. So I can get a music player app to pickup and find all my music that I've stored in which I can't get any music app to do that
