What MODEL Xperia Play Should I Get? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I currently have an Xperia Play R800X with Verizon, It's awesome, but my question is what MODEL XP should I buy if I wanted to switch networks.
I live in the US we have CDMA & GSM frequencies over here, I've seen a lot of people online with R800i's. But which one would be the best for me with the most carriers and data available?

R800i.

Yes, if you want to be completely disappointed with Mobile gaming.
Whats "a lot of problems", post them and we can help you with solutions. Mine has 0 problems and is stock.
I would never give up the gamepad...if you MUST trade just wait for the Samsung galaxy nexus to release...it will have 4g lte and android 4.0.

I own both an HTC Thunderbolt and a xPlay. If you think the splay has any problems, just wait till you see that Thunderbolt. Stick with the play.

Seriously every phone has issues. My Samsung captivate (SGS) had the most horrible GPS. It would show me driving 3 miles away through peoples houses in the wrong direction with the arrow going sideways and tell me it had 15m accuracy.

I just trade my xplay to a 2nd hand HD2 and moto atrix 4G.
Hd2 is always good, i used to own one, sold and buy again now. Since it's not native android, the battery is sooooooooo poor.
Moto is fast but the icons are so ugly compare with the sony ericsson icons. And I do miss the hardware buttons.
I have never been a fan of all touch buttons.

Kinda funny, I went from an Atrix to a XP and I'm loving it. It kinda showed me raw hardware power is useless with garbage software support and poor optimization.

[Q] Is it Xperia Arc worth a Free Upgrade?

So...
this is my current Situtation...
I've been under a Contract for +14 months now with my career; when i first got the contract i got an Xperia X10 Back on October 2010 but i got bored of it and around May this year i made a switch for Free with them for the SGS1 which i must say is a beautiful phone and I really love how the phone works even it's more than 16 months old since it came out.
Here in Guatemala we have not too many options in regards of High End Phones such as the SGS2 or HTC at all... But i have the option of a Free Upgrade for 1 Xperia Arc in early December.
I've got someone from here who is willing to buy my SGS1 for a really good price (around USD $500 - High End phones are kinda expensive here hehe) and i wanted to ask for your opinion if you guys think is it worth to upgrade to the Arc and sell the SGS1... I mean i have the option of selling any of them and keep the other...
Also have you heard if Eventually the Arc will get the so awaited ICS update?
What do you guys think?
Thanks!
I have to say Yes We have few developers stepping in for building ROM's
Here is a comparison, you decide:

Thanks! On the Paper both phones have similar specs with their pros and cos... But i wanted to hear the opinion from Users who already have the phone to let me know how is it like. I already have the SGS1 but wanted get more information about the Arc...
Any comment will be greatly appreciated.
JIM
I say get a gs2 or stick with gs1 Wayyy too good development

I would upgrade to arc from SGS1 any day of the week... it's a really really great bit of kit... Love the camera, love the screen.. and it's not 100% confirmed for ICS but leaks have suggested that it will.
Sony have officially stated that all of their 2011 xperia models will be getting ICS. That includes the original arc as well as the arc S.
As far as the upgrading question goes, i would say the arc is definitely worth it. There are faster/more powerful phones out there, but nothing as well designed or with as good a camera.
Wow.I wouldn't buy a new galaxy S for 250$.sell it now

Going on line and spending $500 has nothing to do with getting a free upgrade from your service provider. Especially since he said dual core phones werent available in the original post.

Noob

I live in the UK and am looking on the net for a cheap xperia play, can i buy a phone from the US e bay and be able to use it as a phone over here with my sim card?
Also not sure on Bricking a phone Gingerbreak, flashing or rooting, anyone care to explain to a noob?
The US Ebay will most likely have the R800x and R800at. The x is for use only on CDMA carriers, which I've been told don't exist in the UK. The at is AT&T's sim-locked device, which I'm not totally sure whether it can be used in the UK or not. I'm guessing not. I believe the version you're going to want to find is called the R800i. Make sure you look specifically for that, so you don't get a phone that won't work on your carrier.
You might be able to find the right one on ebay, but you do indeed need the R800i. You could try look on ebay.co.uk, or even ebay.fr (french) or ebay.de (german). Just make sure you get the R800i.
Thank you both for your quick replies, i have noticed the WIKI details on this site and you are right enough, thanks especialy for the international ebays, nevere gave that a thought. Now just to read up about root, flash, brick and gingerbreak to find out what all the fuss is about as i am still a noob.

Thinking about buying a Play

Hi all,
I currently have a Fascinate on Verizon and am sick of the issues it is having. It seems a large number of them have memory issues and it's constantly restarting and bootlooping at an empty battery screen. Long story short, I want to buy a used Play. Mainly for two reasons. One, I want a working phone, and two, I love playing emulators but hate on-screen controls.
How are you folks liking the Play currently? How are the ICS ROMs running? How is emulator performance (PS1 specifically) on ICS ROMs? Does the gamepad work on ICS ROMs?
Thanks for your help; I really don't want to switch phones for something worse :/

I got my Xperia Play for 169euro in Vodafone IE, so i think it was the best value android phone ever! But i was worried becouse how come Vodafone reduced 500 euro price to 169, i thought it must be crappy phone! But after bootloader unlock and flashing .58 firmware + TrueAncestor Rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546134&highlight=true i think this phone is great! Works fast and smoth, battery for me is long enough too, around 3 days for some wifi use, text and calls. Im not playing so much but i used keypad on GTAIII or Shadowgun and it was good fun! I hate using touchscreen if I played some game ever More likely i flashed few Custom Roms but the best working ICS ROM for me is AokPlay! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582118. So many options!!!!!! and theme manager and many many more! good luck!
I wouldn't because in terms of performance, it's not an upgrade from your old phone, just install cm9 or something and keep using your phone till your contracts up :O
I don´t know If I would buy it again, it´s the best phone ever, BUT, it´s the WORST built quality I´ve ever seem, and I´m serious, it´s the cheapest plastic on a mobile I´ve ever, after 1 week only some cracks appears on the plastic, it hapenned twice, when I first bought it, and after I sent it back and received a new one, they both had the same problem...
Really a shame, it´s the perfect smartphone, with the worst material, don´t know why Sony did that...
I have dropped mine a couple of times but there are no cracks at all...

I'm not looking for an "upgrade" to my old phone. My old phone doesn't work properly as I said in my OP. I already had ICS on it too. I'm looking for something to hold me over till December till my upgrade is due, and I love emulators but hate onscreen controls.
I just ordered one today so it should be here Tuesday/Wednesday. Thanks for all the input guys

[Q] Xperia PLAY w/o Cellular Capabilities

So I just purchased a Xperia PLAY, again, and want to use it as a game device only. I thought at one point some years ago there was a ROM here that was simply just a ROM without mobile phone capabilities. Can anyone shed some light on this or am I mistaken? Its been over 18 months since I moved on to a Nexus 5. Does anyone know if a way to remove certain cell related files but still retain full function of the device?
Nevermind, just found what I was looking for:

I was so excited when I bought my PLAY, I couldnt wait for it to arrive. Now I am using it as a game phone and I am ecstatic to have it back again, I missed the PLAY. So glad I have it again, wish I never sold my old play. Still it is awesome to have it again. I even still have all my backups from my old phone... so really glad I held onto them
