Hey guys!
So today I installed IceColdSandiwch v8.6.1. I really liked the positive feedback, but I don't like 1 thing about it- wi fi signal is too weak. I've made a little research and found out that it's a kernel related issue. Lord Clockan said, that I should flash existz's kernel, but the problem is that I have no idea how to extract it, because existz hasn't uploaded just the kernel, but the whole rom. I googled that out and found that if I want to extract the kernel, I should search for a file called zImage, but there is just no file like that in the existz's rom. So please, help me to get that kernel.

Is this what you're looking for? Because I believe it's included in 8.6.1...
Flash again with a clean wipe or check to make sure your router is OK.

note that exists says this may cause issues.... 'may cause... if so, try LC's ICS.10 bfs kernel. Having tried ICS.10 cfs/bfs & existz aospx kernels , this was the one that made the most wifi signal improvement for me.

Can anyone help me please?
I am running wildpuzzle V0.8 and recently flashed the Jacob o/c kernel , I now have no working Wi-Fi hotspot.
I would like to flash another Kernel even back to the one included in the Rom but I cant find anywhere to domnload it from, all the links in the Wildpzzle thread are now down.
Any ideas where I can find a download please ?
You can flash nFinity MC4 from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=995301
Alternately - If you would like to go back to the stock kernel, you can get that here: (It's taken from the WildPuzzle Thread itself. I had this one in my archive)

do you know if the wifi hot spot works with the nFinity MC4 ?
Many Thanks
Yes, it should. The thread specifically mentions it has fixed WiFi hotspot.
Thanks so much, now everything is fine
guys ive used these forums forever. you guys are the best, people think im a genius because of you guys. ive never made a post because you guys pretty much have me covered always. maybe im not using the correct wording in my search, but i need help on flashing a kernel with my aokp rom. im using milestone 6 but when i flash a kernel my wifi breaks no matter what kernel i flash. when i odin back to el26 wifi works fine, the kernel that comes with aokps wifi works fine. but i do get bad reception sometimes and want to try a new kernel, please help or direct me to the correct solution. thanks in advance
What kernel are you flashing? You cant flash a kernel made for touchwiz on aokp.
Hi.
I've been playing around again, just trying to learn all about this damn thing.. I might even come around to liking it one day!
But I'm trying to use a different kernel, Have Installed it (boot loops) then I tried Repack the kernel it now works, It Gets 3G but no Wifi, which is slightly annoying.
my uneducated guess thinks that this rom-kernel compatibility probably won't ever work.
ROM - [18-10] [ROM] CyanogenMod 10 - Endeavor Unleashed | 019 (latest)
(old) Kernel - Latest 3.1.10 (022A)
(new) Kernel - [KERNEL][SEP.30][AOSP]Bricked-Kernel|2.6.39.4|v0.7|Sweep2Wake|mpdecision|PowerHA L
But yeah, tl;dr wanting to change kernel, to another custom kernel and the Wifi doesn't work, even after the kernel being repacked.
Should I just switch ROMs to CM10 Nightlies? As I'm sure those work correctly. Anyone with a better suggestion? Hopefully have posted enough information to not look like an Idiot :S
Hello again guys,
I sucessfully rooted my phone but now I have a problem. I have read through alot of forums and sites and I guess the next logical step is to get a new rom and kernel. Now I have done alot of reading about all this but I'm getting quite confused between the pair. From my understanding the kernel controls all the complex stuff like making your phone run faster/slower and increasing/decreasing battery life.... I'm stumped at what a rom is,it's like, the operating system but custom ones are more streamlined?
So what I'm asking for is a little information and some suggestions of what I should put onto my phone, I read something about a smartassv2 which is supposed to keep the phone more balanced, now im sure if it is a kernel or a governor?
Any help would be apprciated.
Have you put cwm or different recovery on your phone yet. Also do you have the CDMA or gsm version

Yeah, the utility I used to root it also installed cwm, I checked it out and did a backup which should be on my SD card now.
beleive it's gsm, it has a sim card and is on T-mobile.
Ive just installed link2sd and partitioned my sd card, was able to move over a game that I couldnt originally get over to the sd card, saving a bit of space.
Also with link2sd I was able to delete preinstalled bloat like twitter, friendstream, news, weather, stocks, etc.
So far a good day

smartassv2 is governer you can use cfq scheduler with it.
about suggestions:
after rooting you have two options:
use cyanogenmod roms:
cm9.1/cm10
(original modpunk cm9.1 ,speed droid,jelly king,miui etc)
use stock sense roms:
(wildchild etc,sense 3.5 etc)
these all are main roms after there are many variations like pacman rom, aokp build cm9 but they are not much stable at this time so.

Sorry to be a pain can you give me a little info about the listed roms? You put cm9.1/cm10 then the others in brackets, are they just like the same roms but with slight differences or is cynaogenmod a kinda name for those type of roms?
EDIT: Just looked up CyanogenMod.org, doesnt show that it supports HTC Wildfire S.

note:
cm=cyanogenmod
cm9.1 aka ICS 4.0.4
cm10 aka JB 4.1.2
ps there are many other roms based on cm10 like pacman, miui and also slimroms ,paranoid(its tablet ui rom you can change dpi of any app widget its benefit of this rom)
but i havent tried them but you can.
Personal oppinion
When I rooted my wildfire s I was exactly like you. I started wondering what I should do or where I could find it.
After testing a few roms I will tell you what worked for me: Test different roms till you find the one that suits you.
Anyway, I'll tell you my advice:
- WildJOY joyOS First rom I tested. No bugs found.
- Modpunk's CM10 As far as I've read the rom every one uses as the base for their own ones.
- JellyKing This is the one I'm using right now. Active development and really smooth.
Jelly King V2.0
I flashed my phone with Jelly King V2.0 4 days back. Its working very smoothly.
You get 69 MB of internal space to install things.
Panorma mode in camera etc. Try it. you'll love it.
one Q: shall i flash the Kernel v2.1 with jelly king v2.o!! everything seems working fine without the kernal

I have that rom without that kernel and the only bug I've found for the moment is the 3G connection one. However Kantry123 is working hard on it.

I was v.happy with v1.3 dedoxed i had no problem with it till yesterday started to have problem with viber ''NO SOUND'' , skype signing out when i try to make a skype phone call.. i tried to many things re-flashing the Room without wiping data factory sittings No backup lool so today i flashed the V2.0 with full wipe but its kinda lagy!! not smooth like the older one !! Kantry 123 made amazing job i really appreciate his hard work :good:
I don't find it that laggy as you say. Maybe it's because i don't spect too much from my little device. If i were you i'd try the kernel to test if it goes smoother or not.

Hi guys I have just flashed this ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1705334) however it is not the renovatePLUS version, how do I flash with the PLUS version, need it since it has mods and tweaks which I will need, auto-inverted rotating screen is driving me nuts!
FYI: I downloaded the plus zip but I dont know what to do with it, do I just extract into my phone? Because that did not work.
Also, I saw this guy, username(csec) with this signature (Phone: Renovated Endeavoru, F4, XM-Kernel #296 (Most fantastic combo in my entire experience with HOX)). I want to use have those thing stated, already have Renovate(will flash PLUS once I know how), and there is F4, anyone knows what that is? and finally XM-Kernel #296, which I believe is this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2136731), can anyone please confirm is that is a similar one that I can use? Sorry for asking so many question, I finally decided to go deeper with flashing kernels and stuff and I require some professional advice, so please help! Thank you!

It doesnt seem to state on that thread that I have to do it through recovery. But thanks anyway!
For kernels I have one more question. Can I just use the kernel as provided? Of course checking that it is meant for my device 1st. Because there seems to be this confusing thing called repacking...

I RUINED my device before with kernels i didn't know how to use them and obviously i bricked my device so please dont try anything unless u gain experience
Repacking is like making peanut and jam sandwich its like making the kernel work with ur rom if u are using renovate u dont need to repack for XM kernels

If there are no Ramdisc tweaks in the ROM, you don't need to repack the kernel... Mostly kernel repacking isn't needed for Sense roms... So you just have to flash the boot.img from the kernel's zip and then flash the modules from recovery...
AOSP/AOKP Roms need kernel repack each and every time before flashing!

Help once more!
Hi, so after researching a little bit more, I decided change my kernel to the XM kernel(original non-repacked), tried it for a few days, noticed that it response quite slowly compared to default kernel, things like slow display of lock screen upon power on, less smooth transition when. Could I have done it wrongly? Other than the slow response everything else seems fine, I noticed one of the features is S2W, I tried that on my buttons and it worked, however fast charge usb and usb mass storage isnt working, is there somewhere I can enable it or do you have an idea where I can find a guide for XM kernels that describes its features and functionality? Sorry for asking so many questions, thank you!
You have rather detailed instruction how to deal with fast charge and USB mass storage in XMister's thread (first one or two posts).
I suggest you install some of the kernel manageent applications:
- trickster MOD
- Set CPU
... There are many. Choose one that fits you (I am personally using Trickster).
There you will be able to play with your governors and scheduler, and thus achieve better performance or battery life. Or both. Check Q&A, there are few very educative threads about it.
You seem to be on a good way. Keep reading.
