everytime I restore a backup of my phone I lose all my contacts that I added between the date of the backup and when i restore!
Is there anyway to keep this from happening? I keep losing important phone numbers! Im sure my gmail account sees that a contact is missing from my phone and then deletes it from my gmail account.
The simplest and best way may be to use import/export from the contacts menu. And/or your favorite backup program.

When you add a contact you are saving to Google and not the phone right? Also export all your contacts to SD card before doing anything. When in contacts, hit menu, import/export to SD card. I believe you can use this to export them to your gmail too.

Umm, that shouldnt happen...otherwise you couldnt start from a fresh rom install and then hit sync contacts, and get all your contacts back. My guess is your new contacts never synced

well what happens when you delete a contact and then your phone syncs?
I have my phone set to always save them to my main gmail account and not my phone.
So ye, I have no idea where they are going., Ive definitely saved them and seen them in my contacts.. and then later they are gone, if I have to use a restore.
I dont really want to manually export my contacts everytime I add a new contact just to ensure I wont lose their number. The instant gmail backup of contacts is one of the things that sold me on android.
Is there a way to prevent this from happening? Like delete protecting the contacts in my google account?
Like has already been said, your contacts should be syncing to your gmail. When you reinstall your phone, said contacts should re-sync just fine. Check to see that you have background data and sync on under accounts. Also, go to gmail online and see if they did copy.
Make sure your backup is as current as your latest sync and you should be fine.
Loaded quite a few roms...never had my contacts lost. They always pull back down from gmail. I didn't setup anything special.
Lost contacts
I have been losing my contacts every day since my xperia s updated to ics. Now saved them to the phone to see if that helps. Don't see the point of active sync if they fight with each other and delete your contacts.
Sorry, I should clarify. I was using a lumia 800 as a tester for Nokia and installed my contacts from my Live a/c.
Can anyone help? Unlocked LT26i o2 branded. Android 4.0.4

I'm trying to root my friends phone but dumb dumb saved his contacts to the phone and not his Google acct. Now when I go to people and export to SD it only gives me the Google option and fails.
So I started entering the contacts by hand into gmail. At first there were duplicates showing up on his phone but they later disappeared. I don't know if its the original on the phone or the synched one.
Any ideas how to move these to SD or get them to Google ? I guess I could add them all into gmail and when I root his phone with new Rom hope it will sync but is there an easier way ?

If you add them to Gmail, root the phone and flash a new ROM to his phone, when you set up his Google account it'll sync automatically, so the contacts in Gmail will show up. Since flashing a new ROM requires clearing of user data/factory reset in ClockworkMod, all of the old ROM info is gone so you shouldn't have duplicates.
definitely do not waste your time writing down numbers...
Back them up using verizon backup assistant. then go to the verizon website and export the contacts into a .csv file
Then just import it into gmail.
you'll be done in less than 15 minutes.

Brilliant! TY.
I recently wiped my old decks rom bc i was tired of the bugs & crappy battery life. I installed a new rom and went to use gmail which syncs my contacts. But the latest contacts I had synced on my account are not in there...Is there anyway to get them back? I thought once you synced them up they were always tied to your account once you logged in?
bump anyone? Would like to fix this
You must of turned sync off before, or recent would be there too

Well I remember when I input the phone # it asked do u want to sync the number with google or Not Sync and just have it in the phone. I always choose SYNC with GOOGLe. But once I wiped my rom & installed a new one all the new contacts are gone =( & I didnt backup bc I didnt plan to use that ROM again...
The ones you synced with Google should come back if you:
Go to settings
Accounts and sync
Select your gmail
Click "sync contacts " then they should be there

Hi,
About 2 years ago I got my HTC Evo 4g and I'm looking for an upgrade soon. I recently rooted my phone with software version 2.3.5. I was wondering when Sprint would transfer my phone number and contacts to my new phone would their be any problems transferring my data. Thanks
All your contacts are synced top your Google account, they'll transfer when you sync your phone to your Google account..

As long as it's only User Apps you've installed and data for those apps, you can transfer with Titanium Backup using the dropbox or box sync function

Not necessarily...When you create a new contact you can create it in google or on the phone. If all your contacts are on the phone you can (and should even if you aren't switching phones) export them to a csv and them import them to google at contacts.google.com. I figured this out after having my phone for a year or so and ALL my contacts were on my phone. It's quick to transfer them and it's worthwhile to make sure you create new contacts in google in the future. Grab a new phone, log in to goog and you are done!
All right thanks for clearing up that information

Hi all,
please tell me there is a way that I can transfer all my contacts from my iPhone to ma Galaxy Note 2 ?
I ve found a link on Droidsoft.fr but the app sync from samsung seems to be KO.
Any ideas ?
For the iPhone there is an app call My Backup Contacts. It used to be free, not sure if it still is (it is doesn't exist any longer you can use iTunes to back up to a CVS file, it just is a bit more involved). But you can backup up your contacts to a CVS file. Put the file that is created on your computer. Then open up your Gmail account and on the upper left where it says Gmail there is a drop down arrow. Hit that and select contacts. Just to the right of that there is a picture of a little guy with a + and a MORE with a drop down arrow. Hit that arrow and select IMPORT. Select the file you put on your computer.
Then you should just need to sync you contacts with your Gmail account from your phone.
I hope this helps. It is how I migrated from the first iPhone to Android (and never looked back)

use Idrive lite, it backups your contacts online and install it on your android and then restore your contacts.
Hi,
If you are still using iCloud, then this app might work, it sync's your contacts on the note with iCloud.

On a side note, if you do use the SmoothSync, you also need to install "JB Workaround Cloud Contacts" so on reboot for Jellybean the program is not uninstalled.
I am using it and it works well.
I back up my contacts on Outlook. So all I had to do was export my contacts as a csv file. Opened up gmail, uploaded this file, and voila, all my contacts are synced with my Google account, which I am sure you have if you are using a Note 2.
Did the same thing... had to do a little polishing when it made it to the note but overall got everything there in one piece.
When I had an iphone there was an option to sync your contacts with google instead of outlook or whatever other options. I choose that. Worked perfectly once my android synced with google

Samsung Kies desktop software has option to transfer all iphone data to Samsung phone.
Make sure to update Kies to latest version.

I used the icould website to back up the cvs and then import it eith gmail it was pretty easy
I used Google sync to transfer contacts from my iphone to my note 2
I just added my Gmail account as an exchange account on the iPhone, and it backed them all up to Gmail. Then they came down no problem on my android phone.

The bump app worked for me before. Apple sure does make it a pita to transfer contacts
Just set sync contacts to google in iTunes and sync the device. Once you boot up the Note and add your google account all your contacrs will be there. Easy

Agree with this and you don't need extra software. I came from the iPhone world and set it up to sync with Google. Setup my gmail on my Note 2 and they all came in perfectly. :good:
I came from an iPhone 3gs recently to the Note II on AT&T, and didn't want to sync my contacts with google for my own reasons.
Researching I found multiple ways to accomplish transfering contacts, including using the Kies software, which didn't want to work on my older, XP-64 computer.
There's free software called "Easy Phone Sync"; an application in the store for the GN2, and one you install on the computer. It worked well for me, by transfered all my contacts, pictures, music, text messages, from an iPhone backup. Some points:
1. backup the iphone first, so you get the most recent data over
2. I actually did it twice; the first time I included text messages, and it seemed to have broken the stock messaging app (it took about 2 hours for it to "sort" the messages and then regardless of a reset or what-not, , I was unable to receive or send text messages). To resolve, I did a factory reset and second time around I did not transfer these over
3. I don't have any music on my phone, so I'm just assuming they would have transfered over without hitch
4. The single-iPhone gallery gets broken up into multiple galleries on the GN2
5. I was surprised to see the GN2 contact system automatically group up a few duplicates, neat!
Hope that's helpful to anyone else searching.
Syncing your contacts with Google is by far the easiest way

I just did the contact transfer last night, here is a few things I learned:
1. sync iPhone contact to Outlook first is a BAD way to do it. Because once the contact is in Outloo, it change the format your contact a bit, ie. phone number tracation change, add "catories" field, put people's birthday into "Note" sectio, most importantly, people's first, middle and last name will be mapped differently .. these are a few thing I observed. And when you sync outlook to Google, you will have more manual clean up to do.
2. The easiest without downloading any additional apps is to first turn off iCloud on your iPhone. Setup a google account as your defaul account, and sync your iPhone contact with google. Once it is done, you still have some clean up to do, but very little. Then you just sycn your Andiod with google contact. The whole process is very clean compared to iPhone -> Window Phone transfer.
