Transfer to New Phone - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
About 2 years ago I got my HTC Evo 4g and I'm looking for an upgrade soon. I recently rooted my phone with software version 2.3.5. I was wondering when Sprint would transfer my phone number and contacts to my new phone would their be any problems transferring my data. Thanks

All your contacts are synced top your Google account, they'll transfer when you sync your phone to your Google account..

As long as it's only User Apps you've installed and data for those apps, you can transfer with Titanium Backup using the dropbox or box sync function

Not necessarily...When you create a new contact you can create it in google or on the phone. If all your contacts are on the phone you can (and should even if you aren't switching phones) export them to a csv and them import them to google at contacts.google.com. I figured this out after having my phone for a year or so and ALL my contacts were on my phone. It's quick to transfer them and it's worthwhile to make sure you create new contacts in google in the future. Grab a new phone, log in to goog and you are done!

All right thanks for clearing up that information

Contacts export ?

I'm trying to root my friends phone but dumb dumb saved his contacts to the phone and not his Google acct. Now when I go to people and export to SD it only gives me the Google option and fails.
So I started entering the contacts by hand into gmail. At first there were duplicates showing up on his phone but they later disappeared. I don't know if its the original on the phone or the synched one.
Any ideas how to move these to SD or get them to Google ? I guess I could add them all into gmail and when I root his phone with new Rom hope it will sync but is there an easier way ?

If you add them to Gmail, root the phone and flash a new ROM to his phone, when you set up his Google account it'll sync automatically, so the contacts in Gmail will show up. Since flashing a new ROM requires clearing of user data/factory reset in ClockworkMod, all of the old ROM info is gone so you shouldn't have duplicates.
definitely do not waste your time writing down numbers...
Back them up using verizon backup assistant. then go to the verizon website and export the contacts into a .csv file
Then just import it into gmail.
you'll be done in less than 15 minutes.

[Q] contacts not saving to Google

Anyone know where the settings are for the phone to save contacts to Google? Mine is only saving to the phone's memory, I do have Google contacts sync turned on in accounts & sync
Sent from my rooted GB ADR6350
You are not creating the contact under your google account. When you are in contacts and create new, you get a list of options. One is create under google account, which gets synced, the other is phone only which doesn't sync.

Are you able to back up your contacts and then import them into Gmail? I know you can back them into a .vcf file onto your SD card, but I don't know if you can import that file into Gmail.
Right before I got an Android phone, I backed up all my contacts into VZW, then exported them as a .csv file, then imported them into Gmail. It takes a little longer, but worked.

Yes a vcf file will work. That is how I did it. Worked wonders.
similar issue here which just started happening....cannot save a contact on either my phone OR within gmail contacts. really strange.
my wife swears it has to do with the facebook sync/unsync. conspiracy!! lol.

[Q] Will a custom ROM erase data.

Hi guys. I am looking to root my device and install CM9.
My question however regards data and contacts. Will the install process erase all my data on my phone? Will I lose my contacts?
Thanks in advance.
If you're on sense, (which you probably are) then you can backup contacts thru the people app. Not sure what you mean by data tho. Or, if you have your contacts synced with your Google account, you just sync your Google account on cm9

Data is sd card such as pics, music, videos etc will not be deleted, but data in the rom will be deleted if that what you want to know.
Thanks guys. The problem I have is that not all my contacts are saved to my Google account. There are some contacts that for whatever reason never transferred over to Google. I always save my contacts to Google and not the phone but some just don't transfer over.
I think the problem stems from the fact that until I got my Palm Pre I had a regular dumb phone. As I used the Pre more and more all the contacts added to the Pre were added to Google and the ones before the Pre were not.
I guess I need to find a way to export ALL my contacts to Google.

Thanks for the tip I did that but it only allows me to export either the Google contacts as one file or the Phone contacts as one file.
It won't let me do them together as one file.

Copy contacts to SD card or sim card , or put them in a csv file that you can upload to Google.

[Q] How to get iPhone contacts on Galaxy Note 2 ?

Hi all,
please tell me there is a way that I can transfer all my contacts from my iPhone to ma Galaxy Note 2 ?
I ve found a link on Droidsoft.fr but the app sync from samsung seems to be KO.
Any ideas ?
For the iPhone there is an app call My Backup Contacts. It used to be free, not sure if it still is (it is doesn't exist any longer you can use iTunes to back up to a CVS file, it just is a bit more involved). But you can backup up your contacts to a CVS file. Put the file that is created on your computer. Then open up your Gmail account and on the upper left where it says Gmail there is a drop down arrow. Hit that and select contacts. Just to the right of that there is a picture of a little guy with a + and a MORE with a drop down arrow. Hit that arrow and select IMPORT. Select the file you put on your computer.
Then you should just need to sync you contacts with your Gmail account from your phone.
I hope this helps. It is how I migrated from the first iPhone to Android (and never looked back)

use Idrive lite, it backups your contacts online and install it on your android and then restore your contacts.
Hi,
If you are still using iCloud, then this app might work, it sync's your contacts on the note with iCloud.
SmoothSync for Cloud Contacts

On a side note, if you do use the SmoothSync, you also need to install "JB Workaround Cloud Contacts" so on reboot for Jellybean the program is not uninstalled.
I am using it and it works well.
I back up my contacts on Outlook. So all I had to do was export my contacts as a csv file. Opened up gmail, uploaded this file, and voila, all my contacts are synced with my Google account, which I am sure you have if you are using a Note 2.
Did the same thing... had to do a little polishing when it made it to the note but overall got everything there in one piece.
When I had an iphone there was an option to sync your contacts with google instead of outlook or whatever other options. I choose that. Worked perfectly once my android synced with google

Samsung Kies desktop software has option to transfer all iphone data to Samsung phone.
Make sure to update Kies to latest version.

I used the icould website to back up the cvs and then import it eith gmail it was pretty easy
I used Google sync to transfer contacts from my iphone to my note 2
I just added my Gmail account as an exchange account on the iPhone, and it backed them all up to Gmail. Then they came down no problem on my android phone.

The bump app worked for me before. Apple sure does make it a pita to transfer contacts
Just set sync contacts to google in iTunes and sync the device. Once you boot up the Note and add your google account all your contacrs will be there. Easy

Agree with this and you don't need extra software. I came from the iPhone world and set it up to sync with Google. Setup my gmail on my Note 2 and they all came in perfectly. :good:
I came from an iPhone 3gs recently to the Note II on AT&T, and didn't want to sync my contacts with google for my own reasons.
Researching I found multiple ways to accomplish transfering contacts, including using the Kies software, which didn't want to work on my older, XP-64 computer.
There's free software called "Easy Phone Sync"; an application in the store for the GN2, and one you install on the computer. It worked well for me, by transfered all my contacts, pictures, music, text messages, from an iPhone backup. Some points:
1. backup the iphone first, so you get the most recent data over
2. I actually did it twice; the first time I included text messages, and it seemed to have broken the stock messaging app (it took about 2 hours for it to "sort" the messages and then regardless of a reset or what-not, , I was unable to receive or send text messages). To resolve, I did a factory reset and second time around I did not transfer these over
3. I don't have any music on my phone, so I'm just assuming they would have transfered over without hitch
4. The single-iPhone gallery gets broken up into multiple galleries on the GN2
5. I was surprised to see the GN2 contact system automatically group up a few duplicates, neat!
Hope that's helpful to anyone else searching.
Syncing your contacts with Google is by far the easiest way

I just did the contact transfer last night, here is a few things I learned:
1. sync iPhone contact to Outlook first is a BAD way to do it. Because once the contact is in Outloo, it change the format your contact a bit, ie. phone number tracation change, add "catories" field, put people's birthday into "Note" sectio, most importantly, people's first, middle and last name will be mapped differently .. these are a few thing I observed. And when you sync outlook to Google, you will have more manual clean up to do.
2. The easiest without downloading any additional apps is to first turn off iCloud on your iPhone. Setup a google account as your defaul account, and sync your iPhone contact with google. Once it is done, you still have some clean up to do, but very little. Then you just sycn your Andiod with google contact. The whole process is very clean compared to iPhone -> Window Phone transfer.

[Q] Contacts Missing HELP PLEASE

Sorry but i lost a few important contacts and i need to get them back.. so i have an AT&T Galaxy s3 that im using with a Canadian Network (Fido) and what i did was flash Snergy rom and all my contacts that were saved on my sim and on my gmail were there until i decided to flash Hyperdrive i only had about half of my contacts i think it has something to do with the fact that snergy is a stock based rom and it used my contacts that were originally saved from my phone when it wasnt rooted or had a rom on it. The thing is i forgot which setting i put when i installed snergy rom and when i flashed it again i still didnt get my contacts back..
If any one has experienced anything like this or can help me out in retrieving contacts from my phone please help..
If they were saved in your Gmail, simply sign into Gmail and sync your contacts.

they were saved either on my phones internal storage or my sim because i already tried that
Flash an nandroid you know has them. Change each contacts' option to save to your Google account, and sync with Google.
