Gorilla Glass this, Gorilla Glass that. I kept hearing how amazing this glass is and how much it can handle.
This morning, I accidentally dropped my HTC One X around 3 feet off the ground onto concrete and smashed the display pretty bad. Unlike other smashed displays I've seen, this is broken all the way through. Small shards broke off and you can very clearly feel the cracks and feel like they're about to cut you if you press any harder! See attached files for shots of the phone.

So now my question: What's the process of fixing this? Is it just the top glass that needs to be replaced or do I need to replace the display too? Is there an official place I can order the parts or should I just get them from eBay?
U will get all the answer here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1668206

wow, almost what happened to mine.
it got under a bus... gorilla glass sucks.
they should be using bulletproof glass since i dont get shot very often...
I think that you made a bad choice buying an HOX.
You should try this: http://bit.ly/N4Nvic
Anyway... i never understood how one could drop a phone so expensive like these. I dont think its a gorilla glass fault, instead a bad handling or very very bad luck.
I had 6 different phones in all my life, and never dropped/slipped one out of my hand. I´m always very carefull with them.
Sorry for your loss dude. Hope you dont take offense for the upper joke.
You do know Gorilla Glass is scratch resistive, not crack proof?

That is bad luck i think. Last wednesday, my phone felt out of my hand wen i was cycling. It smashed hard on the ground. But rarely no damage on the screen. Only the white cover was damaged. I have to thank god for that
Good luck with your repair.

talking about scratches, my HOX screen has some scratches on it. Not some tiny ones but, the ones which you can see with your own eyes, no mag.glass needed.
I have HTC DZ and it has been in pocket with keys and everything else, and no scratches on it, but HOX is another story. Dont even know how i got the scratches on screen.
Anyone else had this problem with so called "gorilla glass"?

a friend of mine had an Htc Desire also, and now an Htc One S. He complains of the same exact thing! is S got scratched even wearing a protective purse after 2 or 3 weeks and the Desire was used for almost 2 years and directly on his pocket and got nothing.
Dropped mine 2ft on a pile of hangers in a changing room, all mighty crash, it fell face down, fortunately got just a very small chip on the side - phewww

Hi guys long time no speak,
I was just watching the video of that crazy Russian guy attacking a nail with his One X. On the article in which the video was embedded on the particular website I read it on, it was saying the Galaxy S III has Gorilla Glass 2, well I was just wondering does the One X have Gorilla Glass 2?
I have Googled it, however I was only able to find one source and despite it saying that we have Gorilla Glass 2 I was skeptical to believe. Thanks in advance!

Whatever they call the glass, I have read it scratches so I presume the video is fake. Just read a article a Asian guy tried the nail trick and it costed him 200$
One gentleman from Taiwan put his brand new $700 HTC One X to the test. According to the reports, this gentleman was intrigued by the youtube clip and decided to try the experiment for himself. He began by knocking the face of the screen against the knob of his stick shift in his car for about a dozen times. No problem. The Gorilla Glass is puffing his chest at this point and withstanding the punishment as advertised. But he probably should have stopped at that point. Reportedly, he then proceeded to replicate the hammer test for himself, but in this case, the face shatters within three knocks. The damage was a roughly $200 bill and a whole lot of regret. I would say he’s lucky damage was done only on the screen itself. Lesson learned.

Guess so, sometimes I'm skeptical to the whole Gorilla Glass, I've seen hairline scratches caused with nothing in my pocket before now.

Here is the crash test of HOX http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=O1jVPgH6ZMI
I don't get all these tests? Its a phone at the end of the day, not a hammer!
Also why don't people start testing it in water or putting it in ovens to see if it melts? Just a few more ideas about using the One X how its meant to be used NOT. lol

The spec-sheet matches, and HTC have validated this information.

Gorilla glass is only better and more resistant in certain circumstances, glass is glass after all and will break if hit correctly/hard enough.
Didn't Samsung advertise the SIII as being the first phone with Gorilla Glass 2?

2 days ago i received my htc one X,
the day i received it i was as (everyone would be) very happy and proud..
so i charged it and went to work (with my charged phone).
my phone was just laying around in my pocket (with nothing else in my pocket.. just the phone),
no buttons or anything else in or aroud the pocket, just the phone
and the soft inside of my pocket..
my htc wildfire s (without its beautifull gorilla glass) has atleast been in there (scratchless) for 6 months.
Because the ONE x has Gorilla glass II i thought, oh it wont scratch..
if im very gentle today, i can take it with me.. just be sure my pocket is completely empty (i turned it inside out, every bit of dirt / fluff that was in my pocket has been taken out of there)
and as you probably could've guessed.. not one, but TWO scratches..
one of them is pretty visible, and im very, very sure nothing but the phone was in my pocket!!
does anyone else have the same problem?
im really thinking about insuring my phone if i see how fast it scratches!
i was really gentle to my phone (like you are the first 5 weeks),
putting it very softly in my pocket, insuring nothing was in there..
not even some lose fluff from my pocket!!
Are you sure that one of this metal buttons dont scratch it?

Try to cut your nails Or maybe a ring on your hand ... or you dont get this scratches in your pocket ...
I had the same problem so I bought a screenprotector. I also insured my phone and took a case of suede to protect my phone, just to be sure
The screen is described as scratch resistant, not scratch proof, similar to water resistant and water proof. I didn't have a screen protector on my xe but still got two small scratches from an empty and clean pocket. Not repeating the same thing with my one x.

Me too, got a couple of scratches and I've tried to handle the screen very carefully.
There have been a few posts about the "inner" screen breaking whilst the phone is in a pocket. IE That the screen is somehow deficient.
Did your screen crack in a way that you think isn't your fault?
Check in here.
I'm thinking this can be a poll type thing, without comments other than the details. There are plenty of other threads discussing the different aspects of this.
I always keep mine in my front jeans pocket and am nervous about this whole thing. Especially if no is going to warranty for this.
Again lets not devolve into a pros and cons. Just the facts please.

Mine cracked
I cracked the LCD under the gorilla glass of my TMo S4 while it was in my pocket with nothing else in my pocket. There were no cracks on the gorilla glass and it was in a protective case. I took it into the TMo store and the lady was nice enough to warranty it for me as long as I agreed she didn't see any cracks (battery was dead). She said however that it is likely they will charge me $150 after they discover the damage, which could take a couple months. That option sounded better than buying another S4 outright and it was cheaper than the $175 deductible for insurance.
So I would say, be very careful not to apply pressure to the screen. It would appear to me that they've slimmed down the phone at the sacrifice of pressure resistance, especially since my S2 is still kicking and sat a couple years in my pocket.
Cheers!

Right here with you. I posted a thread about this a while back. mine developed a hairline crack in less than 2 weeks. I still don't know how it happened, as my phone was never dropped either.
Mine has what looks like a (curved) line that goes from upper right corner to the bottom left one. But the glass is smooth and you don't feel any scratch from outside. I m pretty sure I bought it like that as I saw it during my 1st inspection of the phone (few days after purchase)
Is it cracked/scratched from inside and should I ask for replacement ? (I still have 2 days to return the phone)
I have never dropped any of my phones.. I have a rubber bumper on the phone just to protect me just in case..
What I was not expecting, was that I would slam the car door on my phone.. it was in my rain jacket pocket that got between the door and the car body..
Ughh..
I have the T-Mobile Jump plan.. so this is gonna cost me $150.. Ruined my day.
The phone works.. but the glass is coming off on my fingers.. cutting them up. So I need to fix this ASAP
The phone is literally 5 weeks old...

Question: I rooted my phone.. It still works. Will I have any issues with filing my claim if I say the screen is just cracked and send them the phone and they see it was rooted?

It's an insurance claim not a warranty claim so it will not matter.
Won't matter since it's an insurance claim. And it's $175.

Might have, might have not. On my S4 I shattered the Tempered glass pretty bad. Wasn't sure if it saved my screen. Took it off and screen was without a scratch. I've had great experiences with the Iloome one. The regular one, not the flex. And it's way cheaper than Spigens. Plus it feels like nothings on and a little extra protection won't hurt.

Is there any difference in viewing the screen or thickness of the phone?
Picked up the last Zagg glass Curve and installed it today. Its great so far and the cut definitely supports most cases. I sampled a few cases that Best Buy carry and they fit to include the commuter Otterbox case. didn't have anothe phone to take fitment unfortunately. The included RED mounting guide allows for a perfectly centered installation

I went to Tmobile store today, had not 1, but 2 attempts by the store. Didn't see what he messed up on the first, seemed easy enough with the kit provided. Second one was a good install, visually, but the center became immediately unresponsive. The clickity issue came about. Hope you have better luck.
I used to install them when i work at Best Buy so it was easy for me. He may have bowed it which cause the loss of contact. I've been using for about 5 hrs with no issues. I will update if it does change tho.

All of the tempered glass screen protectors have the either adhesive on the top and bottom or all around the edges. But not on the entire surface... The good brands will use true silicon adhesive. While the cheaper ebay brands will use ****ty adhesive cutouts..

Are you referring to the adhesive area? If so no, the rest of the screen protector is completely unnoticable.

How does this hold up when the phone is wet? I'm worried about switching to tempered glass, since the adhesive is just on the edges, not sure if that would be sufficient enough to seal off water?

So, i got mine today and installed it on a phone fresh out of the box. I used the guide they send and it went smoothly. However, ive noticed a couple of things that i dont know if i can live with. First, the sensitivity in the middle of the screen especially the home button and middle keys on the keyboard seems to be slightly affected. I have to push just a little harder for things to be recognized which i find obnoxious. Im a fast typer and find that i am constantly going back and correcting almost any word that contains keys in the center 1/3 of the keyboard. Secondly, and this one about drove me batty, is that the corners seem to not adhere completely. This causes an audible click kind of noise but not all of the time. It took me most of the day to figure out that it was the screen protector and not some sort of weird keypress or something. I may have fixed that issue though but running the blow drier on high around the screen for about 15 seconds and then pressing firmly all the way around. So far it hasnt came back.
Anyone else experiencing any of these issues?
I'd stay away from Zagg there screen protectors arent as perfect as there retail price point would suggest.
