[NEED HELP] Recover the original IMEI + unlock Captivate Glide i927 - Samsung Captivate Glide

I was using an unlocked Captivate Glide i927 until last week; i updated the leaked ICS ROM and all the the unlock setting or root are wiped.
At first the phone still asked for my unlock code everytime i turn it on, later I use the unlock method in this topic [ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1595756 ] by removing the files from the EFS folder and get a generic id. It didn't work
From there on the phone only tells me "Phone not allowed" when I turn it on, there's no text field for entering the unlock code anymore.
Spent more than 8 hours just to try different methods (from moving the nv_data file, using hex editor, EFSPro Tool) but couldn't make it better
Now I've just got the unlock code on eBay but, in short, my problem is:
- I don't know how to enter it, all method i found from internet didn't work
- My IMEI is changed to the generic IMEI (0049 ...) - and too bad i have no back up of the original efs folder (scumbag brain ...)
- My phone is now locked and but I need to unlock it as I don't use AT&T service
So I am looking for a solution to:
- Unlock my phone in Android 2.3.6 or the leaked ICS (would be better)
- Repair my IMEI (so that I can use the unlock code)
I WILL NOT HESITATE TO PAY SOME SMALL DONATION (via PayPal) FOR THOSE WHO CAN HELP ME FIX THIS. I'M SERIOUS - DEADLY SERIOUS - BECAUSE I NEED IT TO WORK NORMALLY BEFORE SEP 9TH.
Thanks for reading, i appreciate any help, information or solution for this prob. Sorry for my bad English

Without a backup of your efs you'll need to send your phone back to Samsung for repair. If you do have your original efs folder backed up just copy it back.
Use
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1264021 for help if you have a backup but its not doing anything when you copy it back

tried but it didn't work, the IMEI is still 0049 ...

Have u tried restoring the phone back to stock as in usin odin then tried to unlokc it again? I'm not at my cpu or I would give u the link to it

Odin won't restore a EFS folder.

Next time make sure to have a full backup before messing with your phone
And yes, you are f*cked, your only hope it's to send the phone to a Samsung SAT and hope for the best.

ok, this may not restore your full imei, but it will atleast give you a generic one with a carrirer unlock
the generic imei is an imei that will let your phone connect to a network but it wont be unique to your phone
<--- Begin Long Version --->
ok here what i did
i never backed up my efs folder, didnt know you had to, and i deleted files in there to unlock my phone for any carrier
i was using the Jelly Bean rom from Dman
something went wrong and i was not able to connect to the network anymore, i deleted the whole efs folder (DO NOT DO THIS, IT WAS MY MISTAKE THAT I DID!!!!!!)
the phone then created one itself, still couldn't connect
next i was attempting to restore back to a rooted stock using ODIN
then my phone froze while in download mode
i restarted and it prompted my to use recovery mode and recover with kies
so i put my glide in recovery mode by pulling the battery putting it back in and holding the power and vol up buttons together
the phone started in recovery mode, you have to hit vol up again to confirm you want to use recovery mode
connect the phone to the computer
now this is important, i then opened up kies
clicked on TOOLS in the menu bar area
then went to TOOLS > Firmware Upgrade and Initialization
it then asks you for a model number
i entered "SGH-I927" without the quotes (ATT Captivate Glide)
if you have the Rogers version of the glide, enter "SGH-I927R" (Rogers Captiavate Glide)
the rest of the process takes place in kies, it will restart your phone a few times etc
wait till everything is done, even if it looks frozen you should let it sit for at least 10 mins on the same screen before declaring its frozen
when everything is done, it should have restored the phone to 4.0.4 ICS Stock
you now have a generic imei as kies has set it up for you
immediately root your phone and backup your efs folder
then install whatever rom you would like
<--- End Long Version --->
<--- Short Version Start --->
Pull the battery out of your Glide
record SERIAL NUMBER and MODEL NUMBER
put it back in
hold the POWER and VOL UP buttons at the same time
your phone starts up in RECOVERY MODE
press VOL UP to say yes to the prompt
download and install KIES if you haven't done so already
connect your phone to your computer
open KIES and go to TOOLS > FIRMWARE UPGRADE AND INITIALIZATION in the menu bar
when prompted for a MODEL NUMBER:
Enter "SGH-I927" if you have the ATT Glide
and "SGH-I927R" if you have the Rogers Glide
now it will ask for your SERIAL NUMBER, enter it in all caps
it will ask to install the latest rom for your phone say yes and let KIES work its magic
if you believe you phone is frozen please wait at least 10 mins to see if the screen changes
when the phone restarts you should have the generic imei, re-root your phone and backup your efs folder and flash whatever rom you would like, enjoy!
hope this helps, if it did help in anyway please hit the thanks button

[LG KS20] "Unavailable OTP Block" solution

Hello everybody!
I have read lost of post regaring KS20 flashing procedure.
Most common is to:
1) backup NV2 with LGMDP
2) flash phone with desired ROM erasing EFS
3) restore NV2 settings
The only problem is that after restoring NV2 the phone says "Illegal use" and "Unavailable OTP Block" message appears on the screen, so the phone becomes unusable... :-(
We all should backup NV2 with QPST Service Programming instead of LGMDP.
However if you have a NV2 backup done with LGMDP only there is a solution
1) Flash with any ROM that does not cause "Unavailable OTP Block" error erasing EFS
2) Restore NV2 with LGMDP, but do not restart the phone!
3) Backup NV2 with QPST Service Programming to QCN file
4) Flash with the ROM of your choice erasing EFS
7) Restore NV2 with QPST Service Programming from QCN file
And that is all!
Of course you have to switch USB settings with Engineering Menu after every flashing.
but i am now not able to connect with the computer,
what can i do?
In that case you should use Emergency Mode
Turn on device while pressing Send and Internet buttons.
A green LED will light.
yes it is done.
i found out i can only flash with chinese rom, but i really want an english one.
(my ks is bought in hk with chinese version)
can you advice me how to flash with english rom?
Well, you should be able to flash ANY ROM using one of those flash tools mentioned above.
I had Polish unbranded ROM and I checked several branded ROM-s like French, German, Polish and finally English (HKE).
If you are able to turn on your phone in emergency mode you should be able to flash it, and it does not metter what ROM do you use. The problem might be in ROM format. Do you have a standalone MZ file or flash.bin with additional files?
Try the branded ROM and pray.
When i turn on device while pressing Send and Internet buttons.
it didn't show a green LED light and didn't go to emergency Mode!
what should i do?? help...
1. Disconnect from USB
2. Press Send and Internet buttons and hold
3. Press Power On while you r still holding Send and Internet buttons
4. Then u should see a green led on, and ady to connect USB
hi cleverguy, after read your methods, I am really confused.
could you please tell the method to resolve "unavailable otp block" more clearly?
ps:could you release your MSN or mail address for me to contact with you?
Thanks a lot.
Visit my post pls
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=405945
For OTP block result after flashing, there are two reasons:
1. You didn't check the "Erase EFS" option for flashing
2. Unbranded phone flashed with Branded or Hybrid rom, OR Branded phone flashed with Unbranded rom
So, in order to eliminate the occurrence of Reason 1., you must flash with "Erase EFS" option, if there after still coz you OTP Block or illegal use then it would be due to Reason 2, try flash with another rom
KS20 unavailable otp block
Hi Ray, the second you said caused my problem.
My phone is SFR French.
After read your post I have to raise a question: if I still want to flash a unbranded rom, how to solve the "unavailable otp block"? Do you have any advise? Thanks!
SFR French = Branded KS20
I think i have stated very clear in my post with the title "[How To] Flash Unbranded rom in Branded KS20"
Dun tell me you can't understand, unless you can't read english.
If you understand the steps and the rom that you need go ahead n do it, if you still hv no idea after reading my post, then i would say you r too smart to do the flash, i recommend you to stay with french.
Good Luck
Thank you ray, I have found the solution.
Hi guys
I own a greek Vodafone KS20. I bought it in Greece. I live currently in Sweden. The phone at some point had a problem with the touch screen and i sent it though UPS to Greece to be fixed by LG. The phone was working otherwise, appart from the touch screen. They claimed they fixed it, so i paid for the UPS to bring it back (80E all together). I received it today and the phone gives back the anavailable OTP block error while opening. LG Greece claims that they did nothing to the software.
So basically my question is if there is there any other reason that this error would occur besides a bad flashing procedure? They are not paying for the device to be delivered to them and i am not paying another 80E to do it again either.
And the second question, since my line of work is not with computers, is whether there is a kind soul here that would teach an old dog how to fix this step by step? Before Raykisi or abybody else jumps on my back ( ), let me say that I did read this and this but still i am not really sure how to take the first step. I can not get into the device so i cannot press anything on the dialpad.
If i get it right, the process would be to:
- Extract the current Rom or whatever.
- Patch it somehow
- Get it back in?
Is there anyway that i just overwrite it with a new one and be done since I dont wont to unlock the device, not to use an unbranded Rom, just to make it work again.
Thank you in advance for your help and understanding.
Easy problem, but y nobody trying to ask question in my own post?
Here is my own post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=405945
Steps:
1. Find out your phone is Branded or Unbranded, the definition of that is in my post
2. Choose the right rom, Branded phone Branded rom, Unbranded phone Unbranded rom, for english there is not Branded rom so you need hybrid rom for Branded KS20, in my post you can find "English-HK-10a + French-voda-10f Rom", also if you are not after it, there is also a list of official Branded or Unbranded roms
3. Since your phone is hving "OPT problem", you can only flash your phone in emergency mode
Emergency mode: make sure usb is unpluged, turn off device, press and hold "send" and "browser" buttons then press power on, a green led should be turn on, connect it to LGMDP and flash it with the rom you get in step 2
Note: since you flash in Emergency mode your original .nv2 data in KS20 will be lost, if you did make a backup of it b4, restore it back to the phone after flashing, if you dun hv a .nv2 backup read my post at the very top you will find out how to get 1 from me
Also, to connect LGMDP to restore .nv2 file after flashing you ll hv to read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396032
BTW, since you will lose your original .nv2 data (my .nv2 solution is not perfect) if you never make a backup b4, i would prefer you send it back to LG
Good luck
raykisi thank you very much for your help
If you feel this should be in your own thread then i can continue there.
1. It is a vodafone mobile, it has the logo, so it is branded.
2. So since it is a greek vodafone mobile i guess that this rom is the correct one????
Greece Vodafone 10g (DZ-KS20-00-V10g-202-05-APR-2-2008+0.dz)
I found it in your thread. Can i flash directly with this Rom?
3. To flash it I need the LGMDP program as you said. I downloaded it and the folder has 4 different versions: Euro, H3G, Open and US. I guess i should use Euro???
4. Will the LGMD recognise by the LGMDP program when i connect it to the USB in emergency mode? How will i know if it is recognised?
5. Are there any special settings in the LGMDP program that i have to select before flashing?
6. If i understand correctly after flashing in emergency mode it is certain that i will lose the nv2 information. I dont have a backup since i was not responsible for this error. I can send you the IMEI so that you send me an nv2 file for my phone. Does this nv2 file work for sure in branded phones? Because you said in the first post that the last digit is always different. What is the possibility it doesnt work from your experience? If it is very low maybe i can take the chance but if not, as you said maybe it is safer to pay another 100E and get it back to LG.
Thanx again for your help
Edit: Not to get me wrong, i understand that there is no responsibility whatsoever by you guys here, whatever i do, i do it myself. I am just trying to understand what are my chances of fixing this darn thing myself.
1. correct
2. correct, but you also can flash to any other language as long as they are Branded rom, or make a hybrid rom
3. I only used Euro b4, hvn't try other version
4 As long as you switch your phone to emergency and connect to USB, LGMDP will recognise it,
but for normal mode which you will use after flashing to restore .nv2 file you hv to follow this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396032
To restore .nv2 manually by LGMDP Read this (from post #104 to #118):http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2531611#post2531611
5. Just try to play around with LGMDP, it is not complex, the only tricky thing is, you can press "Original" or "DZ" buttons to switch between two flashing mode
6. with my Branded .nv2 file, you can use with any branded rom, if you want a perfect imei no. you hv to go for LG, if you dun mind the last digit would be different then go for me
Your .nv2 file is ready to pick up, but you didn't send me your email address
If you need further help pls post in my post pls

did you backup your own branded nv2 file with LG MDP?
If yes, you can reflash the unbranded rom with two mbn files "amss..." and the "partition" mbn file replaced by the three of your branded rom, and then restore your nv2 file, the problem will be solved and your own imei can be back again.

[Q] Tried to update, now unuseable

So I have upgraded my i927 captivate glide using the ROM from , but I only Androidupdate com called I927UCLH2_I927ATTLH2_I927UCLH2_Home tar md5 but I get a black screen with a slide down menu saying the date ‘Ongoing’ and an option to change the way that the device connects to another computer.
The update stated pass, it booted and proceeded to tell me that it was updating apps or something like that, then a black screen with the pull down menu from the top of the screen near the usb symbol came up but nothing else. I got a message a few hours later stating that the update application or something like that was not responding and an option to wait or quit. I chose wait, but nothing came of it eventually.
I then proceeded to try reflashing the process with no success even after factory reset and rebooting.
I then tried the pre-release ICS update as per XDA developers and other websites. Same thing
I tried a few other ODIN programs and ROMs but no success. Same issues including the hang up on the Samsung logo. I tried rooting it once and for some reason it started up into what looked like the same pull down menu, but it was requesting that I needed an to input a lock code for the network. I assume that is because my sim card was in it by now, but maybe not. I got so frustrated that I tried the bootloader and update bootloader options using the official ICS update ROM for some stupid reason but nothing. The thing is that at least it booted into the pull down menu that i got with a black screen again.
I then flashed with an updated ICS, CWM6 but cannot do the:
Third: Reboot into CWM6 (Volume- and power) install from sdcard (superuser)
Link to superuser: Superuser-3.2-RC2-arm-signed zip
Forth: Repeat third step above but install keyboard fix.
Link to keyboard fix: CWM_keyboard_backlight_fix zip
since I do not have an SD card that is working. I did get the SD Card in the device but I have always had problems with the format of it and I cannot put the zips onto the card due to the computer Win7 not recognizing it. I tried reformatting the device is HPUSB format program and windows. I inserted the card into the device to hopefully have it recognized on windows, and i gave me an option to format the SD card. So I proceeded and success. I was able to put the Zips onto the card. However, I returned to the CWM6 screen by pressing the VOL- and power keys but the files were no where to be found on the SD Card.
I moved on after a few other tries at it, so I tried to go backwards to the Gingerbread ROM. No success, same hanging issue at the Samsung logo.
I then tried to reflash with the devices original ROM as provided by DroidAngel on androidupdate com. Both without success.
I wanted to try the process involved on the 'stuck on boot screen' thread, but I cannot access the zip files on the sdcard in order to be able to do that.
I also bought my phone unlocked from the US (ATT version) and had it sent to me in Canada unlocked so I cannot just return it to the seller to get a new one, so my new phone is pretty useless.
I have spent two days reading through and trying different fixes and updated ROMs on multiple sites but I just cannot figure out what the heck to do now. I know that this site is not to spoon feed people and I am a noob to all of this but I am out of ideas and cannot find anything else to help out.
Where do I go from here. Is there a possibility of reformatting EVERYTHING on the device including all partitions etc etc.? I mean the hardware is fine, it is just a software issue. I do this to my laptop whenever I get into a bind.
Have you tried booting into CWM and restoring factory?
sent from my captivate glide running ICS (NardROM 0.3 Rooted)
Just a note, the SD card you're seeing in CWMR isn't actually your physical SD card, its the internal phone memory. I don't think we have a version of CWMR that reads the real external SD unless modified. So anything you put on it won't show up there. The folder structure will look like ... /sdcard/external_sd/ where /sdcard/ is where you want to put your files for CMWR to see, /external_sd/ is your physical card you can take in/out.
I have tried to reflash with CWM6 using ODIN v3. I didn't realize that the SD card that came up was actually a part of the internal memory. Thanks to you both for the help.
Any other suggestions since no matter what I do now the phone simply stops at the Samsung logo and wont turn off? I press the power button for the required time to shut it down but it automatically restarts by itself to again sit at the Samsung logo.

A few questions about your situation right now:
Can you get into Download mode? (Turn off the device, in your case remove the battery. Press power en volume UP)
Can you get into CWM? (Turn off the device, in your case remove the battery. Press power en volume DOWN)
Does it keep asking you for the Network Key? Are you stuck at that particular point...?

Okay, so right now I can still get into the download mode to flash, the CWM6 to factory reset and reboot which I have tried already as stated, and I have not been asked for the network key again since the one time quite a long time ago. The network key is only asked when I load one of the other custom ROMS though, but I have not tried any of those in a while.
I am stuck at the black screen with white Samsung logo.
In CWM6, do you see "mounts and storage" (Second to last option)
If so, connect your phone with the USB cable and select "mounts and storage".
In there and select "mount USB storage" (Again, second to last option, you'll have to scroll to get to it)
Now your PC should see the USB storage which is in fact what is marked as internal SD. So the sdcard CWM can actually see and install things from.
Now you can copy a custom ROM to it, and install it through CWM. Or install anything that is in CWM format.
You may get the Network Key Request as before. I do not know if it can be bypassed by starting it without the SIM. If so, you could then try to unlock your device using one of the methods on the forum.
Alternatively, and highly recommended by yours truly, is to buy the unlock code.
It is somewhat common for these devices to re-lock, so having the code handy is very convenient. I used americanunlocker to get mine, and I put the code on the inside of the back-cover should I find myself re-locked in the middle of nowhere. The code works, and isn't that expensive. In fact, it's a steal if you look at your own time invested in all this in terms of hourly wage! Of course, you'll need the IMEI code. You can find that by removing the back-cover and the battery.
Good luck!
Got it running on Bio360 but 'Not Registered on Network' now

Thank you so much for the feedback, I actually had not thought about the unlock code idea, and since you put it into such perfect terms considering the time and effort that has to go into something like that, it is a good idea for sure to get one. The idea of keeping it on the inside of the back cover is another awesome idea. Kudos to you and thanks!
As for the rest of what you had stated about the mounting and what not; I actually mounted and successfully reflashed and installed all of the required files for the new ICS stock upgrade. The good news was that I got past the Samsung screen again and it said that it was updating all of the applications or whatever again, but then it just gave me the pull down menu again with very limited functionability.
I then used your suggestion to try out another ROM. I tried the Bio360 and followed all directions on the 'phone stuck on boot screen thread'. It worked! I finally have a functional phone again and will be able to get calls from my boss. Thanks!
Now that I know I have one option, I can explore any other options. I still cannot figure out how it is that I will be able to get the ICS upgrade but maybe I will try Kies.
However, I just found that I don't have network access anymore despite that I have a strong cell signal, so I presume that I will have to enter the unlock code somewhere. Where can I put that into? It didn't pop up to tell me anything.

You're very welcome! Glad to hear the phone is usable again. In order to get data back you will have to set your APN manually. Stock ROMs come with the APN settings for all providers it is expected to be sold with. But custom ROMs usually come without those settings. You can find the APN settings for your provider online, just do a search. There is even an app for it, but the name eludes me at the moment. You'll need wifi to get the app, though! Once the settings are in place (You put them in under wireless & Networks), you'll have data again.
As for the limited functionality, I had the same thing, at first. The upgrade was broken for me, I guess some settings/apps were causing problems. So, after flashing the upgrade, I did a factory reset in CWM. I also wiped the cache, and the Dalvik cache, for good measure(Under advanced in CWM). It rebooted, said it was upgrading and installing, and I let it sit for a few minutes. Then I was greeted by an initial setup screen, and the phone has been on a working ICS ever since! I did lose all my settings and such, but I had a back-up of those with Titanium Backup, and got those back that way.
Hope this will help as well.

[Solved]AT&T i317 Baseband Unknown, IMEI- Null/Null, Internal SD card not present

I was flashing stock rooted FW to my AT&T note II. i clicked on 'Nand erase all' in odin while flashing and there was no pit file provided so re partition was unchecked.
ever since that was flashed my phone does not recognise any sim card, IMEI is "null / null" and the baseband is unknown.
all my internal memory shows in the application manager window to be free but in the storage section in settings, i have 0.00B left.
if i access my phone memory through a file explorer i can write on my /storage/sdcard0 partition but system does not recognise it.
i went through many XDA topics involving how to write imei number, how to restore baseband. cant find anything that would help me.
i have tried to install stock rom again, different versions of stock roms. tried to use pit files and stock rom. nothing worked.
i tried flashing the modem again using custom recovery but that did not help either.
is there a way out or i have a note ii with no phone functionality for the rest of its life?

I apologize.
I will keep it in mind next time.
had this happen after a hard brick
pls read entire thing before attempting
this is the method i used to fix
ON A DIFFERENT COMPUTER/ OR UNINSTALL ALL PROGRAMS AND DRIVERS!!!!
You will need your Serial # and kies
after installing Kies and drivers goto tolls menu and select Firmware upgrade and Initialization (step one picture)
it will prompt u for your model # SGH-I317 (Step two pic)
after that it will ask for your serial #
then it prompt you to put you phone in download mode and plug it in this may take a few min and i would suggest going to the installing drivers. ie plugging in you phone in every mode so you computer recognizes it
once kies starts downloading to you phone you should be good to go it restart just like you pulled it out of the box
Thanks a lot

worked perfect i thought the phone was gone i had no IMIE no BASEBAND nothing i was able to fix the phone with these easy steps thanks for the post
I would love to try this out. However in my case the phone reboots way too soon for Kies to recognize it. However it does not reboot if I keep in on a MD1 modem, which of course will not recognize as a valid combination to get an update.
Sort of a catch 22.
Thanks
Thanks a lot mate. It worked well for me and my Note 2 is back to life after almost a stressful day with dead Note 2.
Thanks again!!

THANK YOU!!!! This fixed my issue. Late last night I posted about not transferring the rom files to my phone before I cleaned it off. Would only boot to recovery. The only ROM I had access to was will03's CM11 4.4 nightly. The last one I tried blew out my baseband and IMEI so I was hoping it was fixed in the latest.
I was able to get 4.4 onto my phone but it didn't recognize the Sim and the baseband and imei were unknown. The last time this happened, I used a back to stock pack I got off of these forums (Stock > Root > Triangle Away > Unroot) and that worked.
This was much cleaner for me since I was at work and didn't have access to my stuff. The only thing it didn't do was reset the flash counter, which is fine. I can do that myself.
Thanks again!
Baseband was updated for mj5 modem also flashing wrong meaning international versions just a thought

I am also facing same issue on my SGH-I317, where in I lost my IMEI, baseband etc... I flashed 4.3 Custom rom with Note 3 features.
I was able to get every thing else except, my phone stopped recognizing the my Indian SIM (i.e. vodafone provider). I got all note 3 features working like charm (Air Command etc...). I just followed all the steps given by you @cobraa783. Still it's not able to restore my baseband, IMEI etc...
Please help me.
Thanks in Advance.
Use Kies to emergency recover back to stock 4.1.1.
Steps. (READ ALL BEFORE STARTING)
1.) Downloads Kies onto your pc
2.) Install drivers to pic
3.) Open Kies and go to TOOLS > instal/upgrade firmware.
4.) Kies will ask you for you device model. AT&T = SHE I317. And your serial number. Located behind the battery.
5.) Hit start in Kies it will down load the stock firmware to your PC. Follow the instructions.
6.) It will eventually ask you to put your phone in download mode and connect it to the pc. Do this.
7.) Don't touch it. It is going to take about 10-20 min depending on your Internet speed and your computer.
When it is complete your phone will be back to stock. The same it was the day you pulled it out of the box.
***I would also make sure you back up any data on your phone because it will delete the sd card. It is also wise to remove any external storage sd.
****when finished you can re root using cf auto root or take the OTA update to get you back to 4.3.

This was the perfect solution for my SGH-T889. I owe you my firstborne if I ever have one.
Note 2 EMEI Null Null... etc.
Greetings, just want to help a little. Like many here I had the same problem ... Note 2 brick for 2 days. Continue with the suggestions of the forum where Samsung Kies is used to return to the factory and have been Emei etc .... My did not work me. However, manages to find the PIT to Note 2 (I317 & i317m) Which use Odin3 v3.09 with a factory Firmware (I317UCAMA4), and the corresponding Pit instead. I pretty much gave up .... but it worked great. Now my I317 ATT works great again. I hope to help them, as I help my! Luck! Well Please ... Thus if you want to try go to link at bottom. It really works and I understand it is a faster way ... thanks to the good work of many on this site!

[Q] Restoring IMEI i747 ATT

So I hope this thread isn't too useless. I've been researching how to restore my imei after losing 4g signal when my phone randomly (just sitting there on the desk, not touching it), decided to get stuck in a reboot loop.
Here's my specs:
Network: AT&T
ROM: CyanogenMod 11-20141112-SNAPSHOT-M12-d2lte
Modem: UCUEMJB
Recovery: ClockworkMod 6.0.4.3
Device Model: SAMSUNG-SGH-I747
Product Code: Not Active
PDA Version:
Baseband Version: I747UCUEMJB
CSC Version:
Kernel Release: 3.4.104-cyanogenmod-g9f57632
Kernel Version: #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Nov 11 22:15:56 PST 2014
ROM Build: d2uc-user 4.3 JSS15J I747UCUEMJB release-keys
Android Version: 4.4.4
BusyBox Version: 1.22.1
SU Binary Version: 2.40:SUPERSU
So here's what I've learned. My IMEI was lost due to a weird Samsung backup procedure that backed up my /efs folder with essentially a blank copy of important information. I have my IMEI, but writing it to the phone is very difficult. From this tutorial I learned to download QPST, and somewhere else I heard about EFS Professional.
So I tried to use EFS Professional first, and have been able to connect my phone (Had to install adb first via the official android sdk). I was able to make a backup of my efs folder. I was also able to change the usb settings to DIAG + MODEM + ADB. Then I launched the Qualcomm NV Tools. From there, by unchecking "Send SPC" and "Read Phone" I was able to connect to the phone, but any other button I pressed didn't accomplish anything except disconnecting the phone again.
This is when I turned to QPST. I knew from EFS Professional which COM port my phone was using each time, and I added the COM ports to the QPST Configuration program for listening. But my phone was never listed as available in the ports tab, nor was it listed in my device manager under COM ports. I tried using the RF NV Item Manager anyway, entering in my IMEI "backwards" with an 8 in the first line and an "a" after the first real number in my IMEI, but my phone was never really connected, so of course nothing happened.
I learned this was probably because I have no IOTHiddenMenu / Qualcomm USB Settings Menu / whatever you want to call it with USSD codes, because I'm using an AOSP ROM (Cyanogenmod). This thread and this thread were useless in enabling DIAG mode, because of broken links and scripts that no longer work on newer versions of CM.
My next plan is to change ROMs to a TouchWiz ROM, but I haven't found a good one yet, especially considering I've upgraded my bootloader and I know that if I flash a ROM with a downgraded bootloader, I'll definitely brick my phone. So is there a ROM I can use with an upgraded bootloader that won't brick my phone and will allow me to enter DIAG mode so that I can connect to QPST via a COM Port, use the RF NV Item Manager, and put in my old IMEI? Or am I just going about this all wrong?
You do have to be on a TW ROM with a stock dialer for ussd codes to work. Based on everything you posted you should be on the mjb boot loader, but confirm that first. Enter this into a terminal or adb shell:
Code:
getprop ro.bootloader
If you are on an mjb bootloader, then this ROM should work for you http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47816011&postcount=18. It's a rooted deknoxed at&t stock mjb.
Good luck.
---------- Post added at 12:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:57 AM ----------
You probably already discovered this in your research, but just in case. When you get your imei problem solved, before flashing something other than a TW ROM, enter this in a terminal or adb shell:
Code:
su
reboot nvbackup
That will fix Samsung's whoops and give you a working efs backup partition instead of a blank one.
Thanks! I'll try this and get back.

You were right about the bootloader - when I looked up the ro.bootloader property, it spit back what I thought was my modem identifier, I747UCUEMJB - so yes, MJB. I'll get a chance to flash the new ROM tomorrow or the next day and see how it goes.
So, two steps forward and three steps back. I did install the new ROM. Initially, it appeared to work, because I was able to dial *#7284# to access the service mode menu and change UART to MODEM, and then dial *#0808# to access the USB Settings menu and change that to RMNET+DM+MODEM. After that, the phone showed up under COM5 in the Device Manager. I opened up QPST Configuration and added COM5 (labelled it "COM5") under ports. However, the phone never showed up (Phone column read "No Phone").
I then tried EFS Professional, but it was unable to detect the phone. I opened up the command line and tried an adb shell, but it didn't connect. Of course, the phone was in RMNET+DM+MODEM mode, not and ADB mode. I then went back into USB settings, changed it to DM+MODEM+ADB, and reconnected the phone. The phone wasn't detected by the computer, and hasn't been since.
I've restarted the phone and the computer multiple times (Windows 7 32 bit), uninstalled the phone drivers, reinstalled them in two different versions, uninstalled and reinstalled QPST (removing the relevant registry entries in between installs), and went through a number of combinations of settings on the phone. I tried with UART set to MODEM and PDA, with USB settings set to DM+MODEM+ADB, RMNET+DM+MODEM, MTP, and MTP+ADB. I made sure superuser was installed correctly and that developer mode was enabled. I still have not gotten the phone to charge in that USB port or show up in Device Manager in any way, even though the USB port on the computer still functions (can access flash drives from it). I plan to do some more googling and troubleshooting about this, but I haven't had the time to yet. On Wednesday I'll hopefully have a minute to try using my work laptop to access the phone. I think once I get the phone to be recognized via USB again I'll be able to have QPST Configuration recognize it, then I'll be able to use that RF NV Item Manager to enter in the new IMEI.
Also, in potentially unrelated news, my install of Titanium Backup is unable to recognize any apps I backed up, even ones that have been previously restored. It sees them in the backup folder (backup folder location says this folder contains 52 backups), but no apps wee listed in the backup/restore tab. Maybe this has something to do with the mount namespace separation setting in SuperSU? I'll test that later.
Some newer ROMs will install but not give you cell service without the newest bootloader and modem.
Try flashing the last release of CM11. I would not touch the bootloader, modem, or EFS folder until you try an older ROM.

Thanks for chiming in, but I don't understand how this applies. I was on CM11 when my IMEI was removed. When you lose your IMEI, the main symptom is that you can't connect to 4g anymore, and you're stuck on EDGE, which is what happened in my case. I can in fact make calls and send texts, and even load web pages without wifi. It's just slow and prone to call dropping.
As for your advice to install an older ROM, I just flashed a stock ROM, the one linked above. It didn't cause my current lack of USB connection, because I had a USB connection for a while until I changed the UART and USB settings.
I definitely will not touch the bootloader - I've been warned about the dangers of downgrading from an MJB bootloader. I'm not sure what you mean by not touching the modem, but I'm going to assume it's as scary/difficult as the bootloader, so I'll be sure to stay away from changing that too.
As far as not touching the EFS folder, as far as I see it, that's my only way out of this hole, because my end goal is to replace the IMEI that I randomly lost last week, and that's part of the EFS folder in some way that hasn't been explained to me (although I know it has to do with NV settings, maybe some file called nvdata.bin that I've never found, or the /EFS/IMEI folder?). So I think I have to ignore that bit of advice, unless you can give me a good reason to change my goal in all this.

I should note that I took a look at my EFS folder while writing this last post, and it's completely empty now. So that's fun.
I suggested flashing back to an older ROM because you made some changes since your original post.
I suggested not touching the bootloader, modem, and EFS because flashing an incompatible bootloader/modem combination can hard brick the phone.
Since your bootloader and modem match, I'm out of suggestions other than perhaps visiting a repair shop to have it fixed.

Thanks for the clarifications. I did visit a shop to see if they could fix it, and all I got were blank stares and people who don't want to deal with IMEI repairs. So back to my own attempts! I realized a couple days ago that my problem in connecting to the computer is that I've developed a crack on my phone's USB port. Also, I think my home desktop's messed up. So with a nice, sturdy cable I installed all the necessary program on my work laptop (Samsung Drivers, ADB, ES Professional, and QPST just for fun). I tried ES Professional first and by using the Qualcomm NV tools I was able to restore my IMEI! I rebooted the phone and now by dialing *#06# I see my IMEI followed by "/ 17".
So now onto the next problem: Still no 4g signal. Under Connections > More Networks > Mobile Networks, there are some errors. I only have one APN, named "ATT Phone" with an APN of "phone" and an MMSC of mmsc.mobile.att.net, and under network operator it simply says "Default Setup". Some research later, I realized this is a common problem, and I guess it has to do with my NV Data being messed up. Obviously, item 550 (0x226) is correct, which I was able to verify using a program called NV-items-reader-writer, but something else is screwed up. Peoplearmy has released a tool that can restore a backup up QCN file, which of course I don't have, so I'm in the process of seeking help from a generous soul who has an app that might help me. Apparently I could also use someone else's NV Items backup, replacing their IMEI with my own. But, I don't have one, so I'm stuck waiting on someone to be nice to me
I did try the method posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1808408&page=16

I got it! Problem solved!!
So what I realized after going back over those research threads quickly was that I was using Peoplearmy's QCN generator incorrectly. Here's how I fixed it.
1. Opened QPST, followed directions here to connect my phone and start up QPST Software Download.
2. Having already injected my IMEI, I used the backup tab to make a backup.
3. I opened Peoplearmy's SG3QCNGenerator and imported the QCN file that QPST just created. I left "inject IMEI" unchecked, since I already had my original IMEI. I clicked Save As to set the directory and name of the new file, and clicked the Verify IMEI button that appeared to verify that it was correct.
This was the step I had missed - because I never had a valid QCN file to import, I never was able to create a new QCN file. My error in thinking was that, since my current QCN file was obviously messed up, I couldn't use it to make a new QCN file, but that's the whole point of this software.
4. Once I had the new QCN file, I went back to QPST's Software Download program and used the Restore tab. The QCN file generated by Peoplearmy's tool didn't match my model number, but I approved it anyway. It restored the QCN file correctly, but it had an error when it tried to reset the phone.
5. I rebooted the phone manually, and I now have 4G signal!
So, to summarize the difficulties I had:
1. I didn't make an nvbackup before I flashed CM a year ago, and it didn't hurt me until now.
2. I lost my IMEI and couldn't restore it because 1) I was on CM, which stopped me from putting my phone in DM + MODEM + ADB mode and 2) The computer/cable I was using to work on my phone, for whatever reason, were being stupid.
3. I didn't understand that in order to fix my phone I needed to restore my IMEI and repair my nv items (.qcn file)
4. I didn't realize that I could use Peoplearmy's tool to take a messed up nv items qcn file, fix it, and restore it to my phone.
All the tools I ended up needing: Samsung Drivers, ADB, ES Professional, QPST, and Peoplearmy's SG3 Data Restorer. Hope this helps someone else out there.
:good: thanks for posting fix.
