Hey guys i bought the Samsung Galaxy S II from T-Mobile thinking that has HSPA+ bands I, IV and V.. like the box and website says.
Here we use HSPA+ band V (850) so, i inserted my sim card but i only pick 3G bands ( HSDPA )
Checking the bands that the phone has using *#2263# i noticed that i have WCDMA, GSM but also i have LTE bands ...
I never heard that T-Mobile Galaxy S II has LTE bands..
Any ideas why it says LTE instead of HSPA+?
YES, I WAS RIGHT! Samsung was to lazy to change the modem between the skyrocket and the T-Mo SGSII, so if you flashed one of our modems, you'd technically have a functional LTE radio.
Wow, this is crazy!

You'd have to flash a Skyrocket radio, because when I was using a T-Mobile radio, it wouldn't connect to LTE.
But that means, if I'm right, the Skyrocket and T-Mo SGS II have support for 850, 900, 1700, 1900, and 2100 HSPA+.... that's a pentaband phone.
****. YES.
Go ahead and try it folks.

Now I'm intrigued... does the roaming agreement between the 2 carriers say anything about LTE?

Your talking about the post merger agreement right? It just may... and those of us on T-Mobile may be able to hijack Lte once the agreements are in place lol.
Its cool how there are so many similarities between the two phones. They are almost identical which is great for developement.

Yeah, but I don't think AT&T would allow another carrier to roam on a very new LTE network, especially when they don't even have 10% of their own customers on the network.
And it's really cool, because they are the same phone. xD
Although, I don't know why our accelerometer is flipped.

Maybe that is the only stipulation AT&T put out there between both phones?

Could be, but with the short amount of time between release of the 2 phones, Samsung must have developed 2 phones, same hardware, flipped the accelerometer in one, and branded one AT&T, and the other T-Mobile.
Gotta say, that's a great way to save with development.

maybe you are right. i just bought this phone so, its probably the new version.. however.. here in peru where i am at, we use HSPA+ 850 but i cant pick that signal .. only 3G ( HSDPA ).. so means, TMO SGS II is penta 3G band but only One band HSPA+ ?

No, try this.
Go to the skyrocket forums, find the radio thread, and flash one of those modems.
If I'm right, it should kick on the 850MHz portion of the radio

Even if u have hspa+ it will say 3g on this phone because ur carrier may only be supporting 21mbps and not 42. You probably are getting hspa+ speeds but ur phone just shows it as 3g

Theoretically it should work. Lol, an ode to the original vibrant, sometimes their laziness pays off! I've noticed the sensation has LTE mentioned also. Haven't dug if it but I wonder if it actuall does support LTE ? If I'm not mistaken LTE uses AWS protocol right?

Who will be your service carrier? We will need to know first.
I ll go with orange... i understand that it uses the 900mhz band for 3g! Sovit won t work?
You should look up their 3g bands and compare to our phone.. i think our phone is quadband so pretty high chance of having 3g
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Pretty low chance of having 3G service on a U.S. phone, if they use Band VIII (900Mhz). Neither the T999 or the i747 support that band for UMTS. You are better off with the international version.
I was able to use it with globul when i went for a trip to bulgaria.

You should check which Orange you're going to be on. I see that it either uses 900 or 2100 depending where you're at.

i just got the int'l note2 today just to see if I could get 3g or H+. couldnt wait for tmobile brand. Turn it on and bamm its got H+ in my part of NYC anyway did a speedtest and avg 12down and 2 up. Now we have more choices to get an unlocked intl phone or tmobiles branding. Live in Harlem NYC.

I wish they didnt reframe the 3g 4g spectrum. Physics says lower frequency deeper coverage. Hence why CMDA has great coverage on their 850 MHZ bands. But i received a letter from T-Mobile about the MetroPCS merger. And T-Mobile is starting a "Bring your own device" thing. After reading this it makes sense why they are reframming the spectrum.

New York City seems to be blanketed.
I live in NYC and I plugged my sim card in my iPhone 4 and I still only get edge, but I'm right next to the radius of a cell tower. So I'm technically not covered. Do I really have to be inside the radius? Because there is really not a lot of places in NYC covered when you zoomed in since the radius of the towers are so small.

I was on my old E63 with 1900mhz band for two weeks while I was waiting for my SIII, and supposedly I was in an area of 1900mhz coverage. I never got 3g, even tried manually searching for it in UMTS mode...
We got here downtown l.a california 3g ... and tested ...

I just arrived in NYC with an international galaxy s3, went to T-mobile for a prepaid, they told me that "3g" is not gonna work, so I selected the "2$/day" plan for GSM data.
If I change to 3$ per day, for 4/3G do you recon it will work, at some places, even though my device is not a "TMOB" ?
I mean is it both an issue of band frequency AND a device-brand ? or is it just a frequency thing?
(thanks for the help)

Just a frequency thing.
They ALWAYS tell you that non-T-mobile phones won't work. (Either the 1900mhz refarm hasn't been completed, or they haven't been updated on it) (they said the same thing about my One X (tegra 3)) try www.airportal.de to see where the refarming is taking place. Your phone WILL get HSPA in those areas if you are on the correct plan. (Try changing it online)

I am getting H+ on my area but its not constant, and if you go 1km far thn you will only gets 2G. Basically to getting full coverage it will take 1 more yr i guess.
So I am going to sell my international version, and thinking to get the t-mobile version.
We got 3G here in Houston,TX

According to that map there's 1900 MHz 3G around my neighborhood so I'm good for an international phone if I decided to get one (like that new One X+)

I saw it on androidcentral.com.. it wouldn't make sense if it didn't include 2g though because there are many areas that have poor to no 3G/H+ coverage, so 2g fallback is a must

You do realize that their 2g (1900 mhz) carries the voice signal.
You think T-mobile don't want voice anymore?

Both 1900 and 1700 carry voice. 1700 carries it over UMTS and HSPA and soon, LTE as well through VoLTE technology.
Anyway OP, the S4 will support all major bands for voice and data and will support 700 and 1700 LTE at minimum.

I'm not saying that other frequencies can't carry voice. I'm saying 1900 is T-Mobile's voice band. If you take away the 2g 1900 then all people in rural areas won't be able to make a phone call.

Well if you change it it'll have to be a setting the carrier supports, in my case I changed the umts frequency to 1900 just to test and it worked fine.. it was similar to 1700 except there's more coverage on 1700, for example I didn't get service at home but in other places I did so I just went back to 1700

Sorry, but it's not going to work with this phone.
Orange Dominicana uses the 900 band frequency for 3g (WCDMA). On this phone that band is locked for being used with 2g (GSM). That's why you're getting Edge.
Unfortunately, the T-Mobile version of this phone also locked the 900 band for GSM. That means the NV data hack won't work for you either.
Sorry. Hope that explains it, and I hope they at least launch LTE service on a compatible band for you.
