[Q] HELP Please! USB connection on my Arc has gone... - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

:crying:
Hi There!
I flash this kernel under my arconium rom v2.4:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1838916
after I update my rom to Ice Bean v4.2n:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1786871
This combination don't like me, but the USB has worked. So I flash back the arconium 2.4 from cwm backup and I flash back the DooMKernel v4 with fastboot. Clear Cache + Dalvik then boot flawlessly, but from this time the Arc don't have USB data connection, like MTP, STP, fastboot and other.
USB usable only charge.
I try many PCs, cables and drivers and I update other roms, don't help...
I can use recovery and I can flash update zip, but no fastboot.
Please help what can I do in this case!
If this is kernel related and no working fastboot, what other method help me to flash kernel.
May I use OTA?
Thank you!

Its an kernel problem, so just flash another kernel you'll like (make sure it has MTP Storage, STP working)

Need to flash an other kernel but I can't!
Hi,
I try, but I haven't fastboot mode. If I push menu button and plug in the USB cable, the blue led is lit and no answer any fastboot command.
Same reason I cant use Flashtool . Also don't work as card reader either MTP or STP mode.
Need to flash an other kernel but I can't!
Regards,
Z

Can u boot into flash mode ? If u can then flash a Sony firmware...
Sent from my Arc S using xda premium

Yes I can, but noting. No USB. Only charging.

Somebody knows how can I force an OTA update?

Xperia arc stuck in boot loop

Hi, i recently upgraded my xperia arc lt15i to the new ics software, all went well and everything working fine so i decided to root the phone which i managed to do with no problems. Being the tinkerer that i am i decided to move some files from my phone memory to sd card. Bad idea! My phone locked up and is now stuck in boot loop. I tried to flash the ics firmware but cannot do it because i need to turn on usb debugging which obviously i can't do. Is there anyway i can resolve this? The annoying thing is that i can see the files i moved on my sd card when plugged into my laptop if only i could transfer them back to phone memory all would be good. Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks Phil
Use aroma file manager from the android dev forums. It'll let you move files in recovery.

Thanks but i can't seem to find the aroma downlaod anywhere and how do i start my phone into recovery?
Cheers

Aroma File manager can be found in the Android themes and apps section (not in Arc themes and apps) i think so..
To boot into recovery press the volume down button while Sony Ericsson logo (name) is shown
Sent from my LT15i using XDA
Ok, so i've found the aroma file and copied it to sd card. Now I can't seem to get my phone into recovery mode. Also how will i know my phone is in recovery???
You'll need a kernel that has cwm to get into recovery...
So flash a new kernel on and then press volume down on boot screen to get into recovery. Though this means you'll have to unlock your boot loader
I tried flashing new software to my phone but it wouldn't have it because usb debugging can't be turned on, will i have the same problem trying to flash a kernal?
Cheers
How do i flash a kernal with cwm to my phone, do i need to have fastboot on my computer? I fear i am getting out of my depth! i need an idiots guide!!
Flashing a kernel doesn't deal with usb debugging and all.. First of all, tell me whether your bootloader is unlocked or not! Then I'll explain in steps!
Sent from my LT15i using XDA
Neither u need usb debugging to flash a new firmware or to upgrade the current rom..
for flashing purposes only fastboot or flashmode are required..
download the ics firmware ftf file and flash it via flashtool..
At Gire.prasad, I haven't unlocked the boot loader so i asume it is locked.
At now.i.feel. I tried flashing ics firmware again via flash tool but it wouldn't do it, it came up with an error saying it can't connect to my phone.
Thanks
Yes Yes Yes, my phone is back in action. I just flash ics firmware using flashtool again and it worked fine. i tried this the other day and it didn't work so something i downloaded from all of the posts must of helped.
Thankyou thankyou thankyou
It has been a learning curve and i have learnt my lesson. Not to dive in too deep too fast!!!
Thanks to you all again for your in put.

[Q] Bootloop Arc S (LT18i)

Hey guys so I'm in boot loop. Yes I know there are many guides all over saying how to fix it but I have tried many of them and they didnt work.
What happens is I start the phone, it shows the boot image and then restarts after a time.
I can boot into the Recovery mode by spamming the back button when the Logo comes. And can install zip files from the SD card.
I also have tried flashtool to restore it to stock but when i try flashing it detects my device "Device connected in flash mode" but when i try toflash it, it gives an error "Error flashing. Aborted".
Any help?
Have you backup ?
Did you install a custom kernel ?

No i didnt back up and I bought it second hand. It has DoomKernel
Flash a ics kernel and report back. It might be a wrong kernel/rom combination
Post by NASA Computer from the 1960s
Just try flashing a new kernel, depending on the Android ROM you are using.
I'm unable to flasha new kernel. When i connect the phone to the coputer in fastboot mode it doesnt recognize it. I'm trying to flash the ArcKnight one.
When i plug it in to the computer in fastboot mode (blue light), the computer says USB device not recognized
Did you install the drivers for the device properly? Like, the flash-tool-drivers? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034087
Mephistho is right. But if you want to make sure and be safe with it, use sony flashtool to install official fw then you can start your way up from there.

Phone auto booting into cmw recovery

Whatever rom I use my phone just boots straight into cmw recovery. I use the lupus kernal and I can't flash another one because I can't get into usb debugging. WHAT DO I DO?!?!?!? Is my phone bricked?
I assume this is solved based on your post in the lupus gb kernel thread

I'm sure most kernels boot straight into Recovery now in the event there is no compatible ROM stored on the device...
Have you tried restoring from a backup?
And wtf? To flash a Kernel you need to boot into FastBoot by holding the 'Search' button when plugging in your phone. You don't need USB Debugging or the luxury of being able to boot into the Android OS.
If that fails, you can simply restore from Firmware in 'Flash Mode'.
FlashTool is your friend.

[Q] Xperia S turned into Xperia SL?! Can't use Fastboot

hey guys
2 days ago i flashed this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2263625
after flash my Phone constantly restarts and i can't make Phone calls. By that i mean: i can pick up the calls but the other side can't hear me and i can't hear anything too. I even can't hear the voicemail.
So i decided to wipe dalvik cache and factory reset via CWM. I realized that CWM didn't work. i just can't get into recovery.
When i came home i tried to connect my Phone to my laptop but that didn't work neither. i can not acces my Phone using USB.
my laptop tried to install drivers but that didn't work. so what i see is that my laptop cannot recognize my Phone, pc companion could neither.
i've read the ROM thread again and i saw that there are to versions: UB & LB. i installed the UB on my xperia S and now model name says LT26ii.
And after that i saw one more thing: before flashing this ROM i had to flash the kernel first. i was so stupid because i didn't read everyhting.
and then i tried to flash this kernel via fastboot but i cannot get into fastboot. when i hold VOLUME UP and plug usb cable, i see the blue led, when i pull off the led goes out and my Phone restarts.
i don't know what to do
can anyone please help?? :crying:
thanks in advance!
try this
So im asuming that your Xperia S didnt flash properly , i suggest you re-install your FW
Method 1
Use flashtool to flash a STOCK FTF (do not forget to wipe Everything) (FTF can be found on XDA file server(Google it)
method 2
use a revovery to RE-install your STOCK ROM (if you dont have one there is plenty on XDA)
method 3
if all methods above dont work then try sending your xperia s for repairs or find your local super nerd

ok, so your phone can still boot??
calm down, i install this rom too and it is ok
could u still transfer file between your laptop and the XS??
if u can, plz download the trinity ultimate kernel first and flash it
and kernel is usually not flashed with fastboot, but flash with recovery
cant get into CWM?? hmm, is it possible for u to install it again??
maybe u need to try another computer if u experience the adb error (yeah, my pc has that error sometimes)

I had the same problem once, and I had to install Xperia Arc's fastboot drivers so my phone would stay on fastboot.
Here are the ones I used, you have to manually install them.
you've chosec the wrong options in aroma
it's so simple
just reflash the rom and make sure this time you don't choose xperia sl

HELP xperia play kernel bootloops and freezes

hello there my names kyle and im new here but you can call me sangy, anyway i have joined the site to post this
i have had my play now for 6 months and i want ics and a new kernel, i heard lupus was the best one so i flashed lupus using fastboot and the correct rom. i have followed all steps correctly and the dam thing just boot loops after 1 min of booting unless i have my usb in my pc at which point the phone will stay on like it should without a single bootloop. so with a potentially bricked phone i flashed the stock firmware back v4.0.2.A.0.58 and re flashed a different kernel and rom still the same issue so i flashed back to stock again. if anyone can tell me how to solve this weird ass issue i will rate you +1 because im getting sick of having no cwm and incompatibilities with apps and i want to overclock
ps im planning on flashing doomkernel v14 hope this problem is gone but i know it will have the same issue.
my phones current state is this
xperia play r800i
stock kernel(2.6.32.9-perf) [email protected]#1
FW 4.0.2.A.0.58
baseband 64
android 2.3.4 ginger bread with root and unlocked boot loader
thats everything i know thanks for reading and helping in advance
edit: sorry if im not been precise but by boot loop i mean hot boot where the phone will run fine for 3 min then freeze and reboot on its own until i pull the battery or plug in usb in pc upon hard reset it even does this in kernel boot up

which lupus kernel, ics+gb v7 or lupus ics beta v12. have you tried flashing through flashtool because it always works for me and which ics rom as their are tons.
hello thanks for the quick reply
ive tryed the lupus ics+gb kernel latest version with the ics beta rom for xperia play and ive also tryed the lupus gb kernel latest version
and yes i have flash tool and all the drivers but a nice reccomendation on what to flash next based on my phones spec at the moment would be nice
also why am i the only person on the internet with this problem? ive heard of having 60+ apps on the sd to cuase hot booting but for me this is just out of the ordinare, particulary when ive whiped all the phone and flashed a new kernel.

With Lupus kernel, use R800i_4.0.2.A.0.79 firmware
will be flashing that stock firmware now over my other one then put lupus gb+ics over the stock kernel
will let you know if it goes well and fixes this
unfortunatly it did not fix it rom loads up, gets to the regular sony setup then freezes and hot boots. did this with lupus kernel ics+gb and the 4.0.A.0.79 firmware you linked me to. its either the kernel or my phone
just tryed doomkernel v14 with your FW kernel still crashes and reboots, is there something i have to do in flashtool because
every kernel ive flashed yet has the same issue.
note i can get a catlog app whilst it is plugged in then unplug it and wait for the crash and send it to you and you can see where its going wrong with the kernel and tell me what to do
thanks for reading these updates and sorry its taking this long to find and fix a big bug :good:

Did you tried any other ics/gb rom? Wipe your system/data from recovery before installing (and by installing i mean install from recovery with "install zip from sdcard")
Ps: maybe its stupid question, but is your sdcard full??? How much free space on it?
what recovery? this is an xperia play they dont have a recovery on stock kernels thats why im flashing one and no my sd card is not full
literally after i flash the kernal and boot up it will freeze and hot boot. the rom doesent factor in this. ive tryed 4 kernels so far the one that comes with cyanogen mod 9 and the 3 mentioned above
would flashtool logs be helpful if so tell me how to record them to a clipboard and you can see whats going on during the flash

For Lupus kernel - when powering on, keep pressing volume down for clockworkmod recovery or volume up for TWRP recovery.
Flash ROM from recovery that match kernel. Lupus ICS/GB V7 is for ics/gb roms based on stock (Sony) roms. Read in ROM's thread which kernel is recommended
With flashtool you can only flash .img files and in Xperia Play case, that is ONLY ics beta rom (but almoust all kernels come in .img format - so Flashtool is used to flash kernel). From recovery you can flash every other rom that you can find (just make sure that kernel match rom or else you'll get kernel bootloop)
ok this will be crystal clear
i can flash the kernal but even when booting the kernal and going into recovery to even flash a rom it will freeze and hot boot
meaning i did everything correctly with flashtool to do the kernel and with just the kernel installed (no rom) it still freezes and hot boots
as soon as i can stop these kernels from freezing i can flash whatever ics or gb there is in recovery
note: what are your settings for your flashtool as i might be missing a setting also the info from flashtool says at startup to disable MTP for 2011 devices, would this be my problem?

what kernel are you trying to flash? Be specific!
What rom are you trying to flash?
Disconnect phone from PC after you flashed your rom (any one, first boot must be done while disconnected)
the kernel i would like mostly is the lupus kernel
i can flash every kernel no problems, its the fact that the kernel crashes etc i can also flash the correct rom using flashtool the same thing happens
the case im trying to make is that you first install the kernel then flash your rom in recovery then the extras like wifi modules to the kernel
the kernel (dosent matter which one i try for my device ) has the hot boot issue happen to it no matter what i do before i even have a chance to install the rom(again the correct rom stock or not).
and yes i know you have to wait for boot ups on new roms and kernels, this isnt the first time i have flashed roms as i have a galaxy tab 2 running cm10 for the most part.
again thanks for the quick replys but i think this will require more technical solutions or debugging with my phone or software.

did these exact instructions but the new xparts dosent work so luckily the community had the older version that works,
followed everything buy the book installed cwm using xparts after root went into recovery, wipe data factory reset, wipe cache partition and i even wiped the dalvik cache, flashed the lupus ics+gb kernel booted into the custom lupus recovery (scrolled through the menu a minute) then as expected kernel crash followed by hot boot
any other ideas?
