ClockworkMod Touch Recovery - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Anyone know why the AT&T variant doesn't have a touch recovery available on http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager like the other carriers, and how to request one? I had the 5.8 recovery installed but upgraded to 6.0 using rommanager but would like to go back to the touch version.

Update: I sent this message to Koushik on Google+, but haven't heard anything back yet
+Koushik Dutta I was looking for the touch recovery 6.0 for the Galaxy S3 (AT&T) (http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager), but it currently shows N/A. I then attempted to build the touch recovery and publish to ROM Manager for the device (d2att), but it indicates the build already exists (http://builder.clockworkmod.com/built?build_id=4524 / http://jenkins.cyanogenmod.com/job/recovery/4524/?).
Any ideas why it's not showing up in ROM Manager / website?

I'm using the normal recovery (6.0) now, but prefer the touch one after I used it for a while, but didn't want to go back to 5.8. I could flash the 6.0 touch recovery manually using the recovery.img here - http://jenkins.cyanogenmod.com/job/recovery/4524/?, but was mainly wondering why all the other major US carriers had touch recovery available via ROM Manager but AT&T.

Just out of curiosity, how do you know that's touch for our device?

When I went to builder.clockworkmod.com -> Existing device, selected d2att and touch and hit build, I got a message that the build already existed with a link (see message above to Koushik).
I just tried building a touch recovery and now it's queued in the build server. I set it to publish to Rom Manager, so we'll see what happens.

Just installed Rom Manager messing around and found that our device is listed but when I tried to flash it's recovery it shows 5.0.2.6 installed, but when I boot into recovery it's still showing 5.0.2.3.
Was it already listed and just not working? I'm running Starburst 1.7 with the stable kernel if it matters.

No, it wasn't listed previously.
Probably the first stages of giving us official support.
I never installed it before because it was easy enough to use Odin and I knew we weren't supported when I got my device. That's cool though because I had read he was gonna nail down recovery and pass the phone onto the team for development. Nice step in the right direction.

Exactly. Koush writes cwm and he is supposed to be our dev for cm7 too.
I flashed it from rom manager. It didn't work. I tried booting into recovery by turning off the phone and using volume up and power and it brought up stock recovery but then gave me a "!" Error. I also tried booting into it through rom manager with the same results.

Has anybody successfully flash cwm from rom manager or boot into recovery from rom manager?
This is good news! Koush is obviously working on support. Cool!

Still good because rom manager allows you to select quick backup and restore which speeds thing up.
I have sussessfully flashed with rom manager. I can boot into recovery from a cold boot but if i do reboot to recovery from rom manager it will start to flaash something amd stop a quarter ways... I made a bold move and did a battery pull and it booted into recovery fine from the cold boot

Worked great I formatted usb and ad storage, odined the new recovery, and flashed the new recovery through rom manager by selecting download recovery, after it downloads click install rom from sd, go into clockwork folder/downloads and select the new recovery, choose wipe dalvik and Ok. It boots into recovery, flashes, performs back ups seems to be fully functional so far. Thanks Koush! You daMan, may we please, respectfully request some CM7 bits? And you can confirm cwm updated? Does the version in cwm show 5.0.2.6? Or does it still show 5.0.2.3? When I try to flash over compleatly stock kernel it doesnt work, it says it flashes but I cant get into cwm. When I flash over chris' stock with cwm packed it appears to flash just like on the stock kernel but when I load cwm it shows the older version 5.0.2.3. I have tried everything I can think of and no matter what, 5.0.2.6 doesnt load up for me.

Here is link to twrp recovery. It is more advanced than cwm. You will have to mess around to find out where everything is in it. But its nice since you can flash multiple files at once.

i had a similar issue to this a couple days ago. i was getting install aborted status error 7 when trying to flash cm9 nightly. i updated my cwm to the latest version (5.8.4.7) and it worked perfectly. also note that when flashing with cwm v5.8.4.7 you have to flash from internal sdcard. (i got confused by that because i usually flash from external)

[Q] Updating CWM

Rooted my (Sprint) S3 a month or so ago. The instructions I followed had me put v5.0.2.0 on it. There is a much newer version, correct?
I'd like to be able to do OTA updates and understand that that is possible with a newer version of CWM, but to get *that* version (v6.0.x.x?), I have to copy the file over via cable, correct?
Thanks.
(I still have the stock ROM)

Ok. Couldn't figure this out. Downloaded both versions of the ROMs from here:
http://clockworkmod.com/rommanager
I put them in the root of the internal SD card. But they are .IMG files and when I booted into the CWM menu, I couldn't select them. Another web site said to name it "<something>.zip", so I tried. I renamed it on my PC, but I couldn't copy it over to the phone; kept giving me an error.
So I got tired and just paid the money for the registered version of ROM Manager. I clicked "Apply CWM Recovery" or something like that, now when I reboot, it's stuck at "Downloading... Do not turn off target !!"
I'm Googling this, but would appreciate any help you folks can offer. Thanks.
Flash this is Odin http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1346628&d=1348358996
Or start over by flashing this in Odin https://rapidshare.com/files/3987532545/L710VPALI3_STOCK_UNROOTED(ICS).7z
Odin- https://rapidshare.com/files/18638682/Odin307.zip
Ok. I pulled out the battery before I saw your post. Looks like it's not bricked, at least.
1) How do I tell if I have the most current version? When I fire up ROM Manager, it says v5.0.2.1. Underneath it says both "Current" and "Latest" Recovery are both v6.0.1.2. I think that means I have the latest and greatest of both.
2) If I paid $1.99 for the "paid" version, why do I still see ads?
3) I started this whole debacle because Sprint kept bugging me about a system update and it didn't work OTA. I don't know how to use "Kies Air" and I thought this would help me. Is this right?

You cannot apply an OTA when a custom recovery is installed.
Truth is, you don't really need to update via OTA. You can update your software by flashing a ROM based on the version you want (LG8, LI3, etc.), or you can choose to only update your baseband/modem (baseband doesn't have to match your build), or you can choose to load the kernel of your choice.
Go into the Android Development forum and do some research on the TouchWiz ROMs available there.

Cwm on sg3 not working properly?

Hi,

Get twrp does the same exact thing but a better ui and everything!!! Install goo manager and just choose a random rom to flash (you dont really have to flash the rom) its just so it prompts you to ask if you have a custom recovery say no and it will install twrp! Trust me on this one TWRP is one flawless custom recovery and always seems to work with me
Hey thanks for that reply. Just a couple of questions. I went ahead and installed twrp recovery and you're right its very easy to use. I tried flashing cm10 stable (at&t) on Rogers sg3 and I keep getting error 7. I factory reset the phone just like I would have with cwm.
Also, while in twrp when I select browse all compatible rims nothing comes up.
Any ideas?
Thanks again.

Did you install ROM Manager from the market (Play Store)? EDIT: Just re-read your OP stating that you did a fresh install. At any rate, it should work fine, there is an option to select the AT&T version of the S3 (see attached screen shot).
TWRP is good too, I'm just more accustomed to cwm so I tend to stick with it.

I had the same issue as you. I'm on a Rogers GS3 and the S3 ATT wasn't showing up in the Rom Manager menu.
I installed CWM using this toolkit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746665
I then had to update CWM to a more current version using these instructions: http://andr0idtech.blogspot.ca/2012/09/how-to-install-latest-clockworkmod.html
Once I updated CWM I was able to flash CM10 with no problems.

That is weird!
The "S3 (AT&T)" shows up in your screenshot but it is nowhere in sight on my copy of CWM... (Bell S3)
I am running ROM Manager Premium v5.0.2.4 (current version, no?) and yet, the phone model list skips from the "Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G", to the "Samsung Galaxy S3 (MetroPCS)" and then on to the "Samsung Skyrocket"...
Could this be a regional lock sort of thing? or maybe CWM differentiates between the i747 and the i747m ? Either way, it is NOT showing up in the list...
Any thoughts??

Issues with CWM booting into recovery mode

Wondering if anyone can help me out here, I've rooted the phone fine with no issues root checker says it's rooted, I 've installed CWM6-recovery-note2.tar.md5 via Odin3 v3.04 which was succesful however now when you try to boot into recovery mode the screen bounces all over like an out of tune TV/re-boots/stays blank and you cant access the re-boot screen etc I can still acess the download page, The phone still works on it's original ROM,

Was hoping to install Revolution HD ROM unless someone can recommend a better one?
Forget cwm download goomanager from the market open immediately hit menu and choose install open recovery script .
Let it install then reboot into recovery via Manila method or reboot app from market. .. now you will have the latest twrp recovery which works flawless on most phones over cwm.
It's all touch and slide no need to use volume or power button
If you are rooted this will work
Make a backup after u boot into it of your rom your on and u can set backup name to stock or whatever u are on.

What model is your Note 2? I just looked at goo.im and it doesn't have all the TWRP releases for all Note 2 models.
For example, the T-Mobile (t0ltetmo) TWRP is on TWRP's site but not on goo.im, may be that was why goomanager said "no recoveries were found"?

I would flash back to stock through Odin (tesh post - its stickied).. Older phones allowed you to copy the the recovery.IMG file to the root folder of the phone but I doubt the note works the same... Either way Twrp has been having some upload issues with their recoveries through the goo manager app but if youre unable to access even the stock recovery than I'm thinking a stock flash is in order

I stand corrected although my point is is still valid. There are many types of note 2. Some are compatible and some arent. I was simply stating to make sure he tried flashing the correct one for our device.
I'd pop the battery out and check the model number just to be sure he has a t889 to begin with.

We agree. Details are important. Visual verification of the model is imperative especially since a build prop is so easy to edit.
