Just restored to stock from nandroid backup and lost root? - HTC One V

I just restored to my stock nandroid backup that I made when I first rooted. But I can't run any root apps (ad away) and I tried root checker and it said that i don't have root? Should I root again using the tutorial in the general section? Or is there a fix?

That's normal behavior, you have to root it again.
Since you are on stock, could you check this thread and report your results?
Thanks.

You can flash the CWM recovery. Download the CWM-SuperSU-v0.96.zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053, flash it in recovery and you will have root access again.

Thanks guys.

Moved to Q&A. Please post all questions there, thanks.

[How To] Install OTA and root.

I've seen and answered this question quite a few times so I thought I'd just write down the procedure once so everyone can find it.
So you want the latest OTA and want it rooted but you have no idea how to get there? I can help.
Prior to yesterday I was running rooted stock with TWRP recovery. The OTA failed of course.
In order to install it and root I did the following.
1) install rooted stock image via odin (found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426) This re-nstalled stock recovery.
2) install and run voodoo ota root keeper from the play store to preserve root.
3) took OTA download and let it install
4) ran voodoo OTA rootkeeper to restore root again
5) Install goo manager from play store
6) install twrp via goo manager
7) made a rooted stock nandroid backup.
The above procedure didn't wipe any of my data or settings because I came from rooted stock to begin with. I just used odin to restore the recovery and missing bloatware..
Hope this helps
Do you have the clockworkmkd recovery file I need to flash through odin? Does this mean I don't have to use adb?

I didn't use ADB. I used twrp for my recovery, but you can install rom manager and cwm recovery with it instead of goo manager and twrp.
I lost my root when i did the update...
can you give step by step on how to root again after the update and install the google universal search?
thanks...
Flashed the rooted stock image via Odin, update failed at 27%. Any ideas?
No idea. Just reporting on what worked for me.

If you've disabled or uninstalled stock at&t and Sammy apps (like Flipboard, clocks, etc.) the update will fail. You need to enable/reinstall stock apps.
Hi, I used Voodoo Root Keeper to regain root. However, in my device status it is now saying modified instead of normal. How can I fix that?
You can't. Don't worry about it.

It looked like reflashing the rooted stock rom did reinstall the bloat I removed.

worked fine for me
There's a much easier method to get root back after the update.
Flash CWM/TWRP
Flash the file I attached below.
Install Busybox from market
Reboot
Done deal
It does work. I tested earlier today from G1 stock unrooted. Pulled and installed the update, flashed CWM. Flashed the attached file, busybox download and profit. Then used gooomanager to change to TWRP
Here's the original site I read about this method way back when...
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/easy-guide-root-att-galaxy-s3/
Gunny's method does work, just giving another option
OP guides worked for me. Thanks
I like the new keyboard, less errors.

Yes, it does work. Get a custom recovery back (CWM) and flash the file I attached in my earlier post. Saves the time from flashing a stock rooted ROM and going from there as a starting point.

[Q] Titanium Backup works but SU cant get root access?

So i am a little confused.
Back on Gingerbread i had my phone rooted and was just using adblock and Titanium backup on the stock rom. SU worked fine and everytime i booted up TB or Adblock it always showed up with the "application has been granted SU access" or whatever.
When i updated my phone to stock ICS through Kies, i couldnt use TiTbackup anymore so i re-rooted my phone using some program i saw on here (it was not ODIN).
After that my Titanium Backup worked fine again as well as Adblock.
Now i am trying to jump into CM10/AOKP but i cannot seem to flash TWRP and superuser wont update (its telling me i dont have root access).
What should i do? Just try to re-root via Odin and flash the newest version of Superuser? Or will that screw things up considering i have SU already installed.
Thanks for any help.

Why? Its the factory Rom on right now, i havent changed anything on it.
Just got Root Checker and now its saying i dont have root access.... le sigh.
I can still get into CWM, is there a way to flash something to give me root access?

The reason I asked, was because CWM has issues with setting the correct access, and if you restore, you lose root.

Should i just try reflashing SU? Or would that brick or ruin my phone?
I think the reason Titanium backup and Adblock are still working are because that is what i was using before i went to ICS and it maintained SU permissions.
Think SU might have just gotten corrupted?

4.1.2 OTA Update

Hello Everyone,
I haven't had time to search the forum for my question. If I push the 4.1.2 update, does anyone know if that will re-lock my Nexus? My Nexus is unlocked and I keep the stock 4.1.1.
Thanks
Eric
No the update will not relock the bootloader. It will remove root privileges though.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Any way to keep root privileges, or restore them after the upgrade (without a full system wipe)?

If your bootloader is unlocked re-rooting is easy. Just fastboot boot a custom recovery and flash a Superuser or SuperSU zip

1. Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper in the Play Store.
2. Backupt Root with that app.
3. Update via OTA.
4. Restore Root with the Rootkeeper.
5. Profit.
disable annoying 4.1.2 OTA system update notification?
How do I disable the annoying 4.1.2 OTA system update notification? I am rooted, have a custom ROM and want to wait until that ROM is updated to 4.1.2.
I have searched and can't find a clear answer. All I've found is answers for gingerbread... Or vague answers like "freeze the updater file with Titanium Backup!" I would if I knew the file name and where it's located.
If there's a file I can freeze or rename, please tell me the exact name of the file and exactly where it is.
I would be using Root Explorer or Titanium Backup.
THANK YOU!

How to remove root on Samsung Note 10 plus and not lose IMEI

Dear all. I recently bought a Note 10 plus, and it was rooted and its imei number is changed. I'd like to remove root without losing current imei or install OTA updates without losing IMEI. Your help will be much appreciated.
Thanks you
You can unroot without affecting IMEI.
Although it's advisable to backup EFS partition. Of course make sure you backup your data.

Follow these steps:
Flash TWRP using Odin, here is how.
Backup your data and EFS partition, follow this guide. (Only follow method 1).
Unroot:
If it's rooted with magisk, then unroot using magisk, here is how. Alternatively you can install OTA updates without removing root if it's rooted with magisk. Follow this guide.
If it's rooted with superSu or other third party apps - Like kingoroot - then you must flash stock ROM. You can get your stock ROM from here, and here is how to flash Samsung stock ROM using Odin.
4. Finally, restore your backup only if you flashed stock ROM or something goes wrong (IF you already have the correct IMEI displayed then don't restore the EFS partition but only restore your data).

Knox is disabled after rooting, similarly anything knox dependant will be disabled as well.
EFS partition isn't even remotely related to Knox I don't know why you thought of that.
