[MOD] NFC With the Screen Locked/Off for sgh-T999 - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

In the Samsung Galaxy S3 Stock ROM NFC does not work when screen is off or locked. With this mod NFC also works when screen is locked or off.
There are two versions. The first just enables NFC, when screen is on, but it also worked when it is locked. Also with a PIN or Password-Lock everything is fine. But it disables NFC when the SGS3 is in standby and the screen is off.
The second version let NFC active all the time, even when the SGS3 is in standby and the screen is off.
Nothing else is changed in the behaviour of the NFC.
There are also two zips to go back to stock NFC, one is odexed and one deodexed. Use them only with the right firmware version (for example UVALEM).
All ZIPs have to be flashed with CWM. You should wipe Dalvik cache after flashing.
This mod works for at least for the firmware UVALEM and UVALG1.
Please give me feedback, because I do not own this device and I cannot test the Mod on it! I just ported my MOD for the international S3 to the sgh-T999.
Disclaimer: As always, I hereby absolve myself of responsibility for any damage you cause to your phone by flashing this. There is inherent risk in modding your device, and by flashing anything in this thread you are taking that risk into your own hands. If something goes wrong, I will try and help. You should always make a Nandroid Backup before flashing.
To ROM Devs: You are more than welcome to use this in your ROMs! Just shoot me a little bit of credit in your release post!
Thank you: Geniusdog254 for the idea and the infos in your thread.

Confirmed working with UVALG1. Thanks a bunch, mayhemer!

Can someone with a sgh-T999 please install Check Fus and post or send me the "Product Code" and "HIDSWVER" of your device. It will be much easier for me with this information to download the newest firmware and provide you all with this mod for every new firmware. Thanks!

It's a combination of the Product Code, PDA, Phone and CSC. If you provide me with this information that would be great!

mod works fine on my T999 with Free GS3 RC6.
installed the google wallet hack shortly after now the functionality is working intermittently. havent really figured out the pattern yet.
if i disable/re enable NFC from the settings everything seems to work. but sometimes with screen off it will not pick up the tag.
has anybody else had issued with running the google wallet hack with this mod?
i would love to have both functionalities.

I'd be curious to know what kernel as well. You try eri n apns for service? Wifi might be the same fix we've used for 2.3.5+ issues in the past as well since our kernel is technically built for 2.3.4.

hey barnacles,
if you grab the 'official' rom from miui.com or even the int'l sgs2 miui port from xda, all you need to do is swap the zimage with one of the epic 4g touch's (like LoStKernel) and it will boot up and function (maybe what the OP of this thread did, didn't download to see). Data and wifi were no go. If I remember, the cameras were working though unlike what this OP says. I've been working on this here and there but I definitely dont have as much free time as I'd like as I'm getting ready to move to the other side of the earth.
I'll be more than happy to answer questions and/or help development going as soon as I can put some time aside to work on this.

I'm not a fan of the MIUI ROM(its to iPhone-ish IMHO) but I still wanted to say thank you for this post. Although I know it wasn't its purpose, it did point me to the SkyRocket's Development, and Themes & Apps Section, and man do they have some goodies over there, which I never would've found had it not been for this post, so thanks again!
so you essentially made small tweaks and got aosp based rom from sgs2 int to boot? if so, nice. I wonder if this works with CM7 as well.
Omggggg we need to get this rolling. I thought someone was already working on a port for MIUI? What is this for? Excited nonetheless lol.

Darthstalker ROM -- All things not development related--

I figured I would start this thread so that we can move all the non-development talk out of the development section. I hope people will use it so that when something that pertains to development is talked about it will be easier to find. We can discuss what kernels gives best battery life, which ones work and which one break things. We can post about our favorite apps, widgets, wallpapers, or how the weather is outside. Maybe someone will get help on an issue they are having. We can discuss anything within the guidelines of XDA, lets just try to help keep Jovy's thread clean.
I'll start, has anyone had an issue when coming out of sleep the screen is dim and you have to go into brightness and tap it to make it work? I think maybe I set my clock frequency to low or maybe I should be using a different governor. Another issue that bugs me is when I have ripple effect set and use a black background for my lockscreen the borders of the screen look slightly grey. I have read posts about this and by turning off ripple effect the color is like it should be. I like the ripple effect and I like black backgrounds, does anyone know about a fix for this, or does anyone notice this issue on their phone.
Here's the link to the Darthstalker ROM if you read this post and want to check out the actual ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2014442
I am not the developer of this ROM, all credit for this great ROM goes to jovy23 and those he's listed in his OP.

I flash quite a few kernels, always making a backup prior so I can always restore. When restoring I always wipe like I'm installing a new ROM. Just to make sure nothing gets left behind.

Same here! I find 99.9% of ROM-related issues for us flashaholics stem from not performing a full wipe prior to a flash. I've been fully stable on every DaRTHSTALKER update, with LOTS of varying kernel testing, by using this method. Full data + cache + Dalvik wipe then flash than another cache/dalvik wipe before the boot is always a good strategy!

On another note, has anyone successfully connected to allshare play with another gs3? My girlfriend got hers (completely stock 4.1.1 w/no root) and everything else interacts except for that. Would like to group cast with her and I've followed the videos online to do it but our phones don't show up in each other's network, connected to WiFi of course.

I've been a fan of this ROM since the very day the version 9 was uploaded. I got my SGS3 late December (this is my first android device), tried a few ROMs and stopped on this one. (BTW: a suggestion to put a link to the DARTHSTALKER S3 ROM thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2014442 on OP so everyone new to this knows what it is all about).
This being my first post on the entire forum I was not allowed to ask questions on the original ROM's threads (and there are at least two I am following).
Now, if you don't mind a newbie question, here it is:
I am a T-mo subscriber using an unlocked AT&T phone. Currently I am on DARTHSTALKER v9 port for AT&T (here's the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2087164 ). As the most of you I am eagerly awaiting version X1 of the DaRTHSTALKER, but my question is: can I just flash the T-mobile version or should I wait for when an AT&T PORT is available?
Thnks.

I too have tried most of the roms, but keep coming back to this one. I had something happen last night that I've never had happen before and maybe sometime can tell me what it was. I was restoring back after messing with a few mods that didn't work and when my phone booted up in the lower left corner it said "Safe Mode". I went back into recovery and wiped cache and dalvik cache, fixed permissions, and then rebooted and safe mode was gone. What is safe mode?
Thanks,
Todd
Edit: Should have used Google first. Safe mode is similar to computer safe mode. It only loads base os to allow for removal of files. Still don't understand why it happened, but atleast I know it wasn't something bad.

I WOULD NOT DO THAT! Although I cannot answer the question directly, every carrier has modified there own Galaxy S3. They are all completely different. I know that if you flash a Universal galaxy S3 rom onto a T-Mobile device, it will completely hard brick it due to a change in the partition structure. If you have an At&t device, I would still stick to the Galaxy s3 at&t roms even though T-mobile is your carrier.

+1. Unlocking your phone only allows it access to a different carriers sim card. It does not change the base of the phone itself. I have a Tmobile SG3 that's unlocked for my travels but any ROM I flash must be a tmo based ROM. In your case stick with the ATT ROMs so you don't end up with a brick, and enjoy this great rom
My s3 is stalking your s3....

Good debloated, close-to-stock ROM?

I'm looking for a ROM that is:
Still actively developed (Bye bye AeonFluxx )
Doesn't have any crazy themes/audio/etc. I want it as close to stock as possible (CleanROM on the Note II is a perfect example)
As stable as possible (stock kernel is fine if that's what it takes)
Typical things like: bloat removed, deodexed, etc
I've been trying to find a good ROM for my wife's Galaxy S III but I've already been through 4 of them and I didn't like them. I'd mention them here but I've forgotten the names. I'd like to hear everyone's suggestion, it would at least give me something to try out. The Development forum has too many ROMs, I just don't know what to try anymore.
Thanks in advance for your help!

take a look at hyperdrive. it comes loaded with tons of features but whats cool is that, via aroma installer, you can pick exactly what features and such you want installed on the phone. you also have the option of several kernels including the stock one.

I do not know why GPS behaves strangely for many people, this ROM uses updated bluetooth drivers via KT kernel which may explain it but that is only a guess. My GPS works absolutely perfectly on this ROM and very poorly on the 999 variant LL1."

If you want stock without the bloat then go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2161667. This is the stock bloated ROM installable via custom recovery but it is deodexed. Then go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1732039. This tool will allow you to debloat those apps you specifically want. It does leave a couple behind (such as AT&T Messaging) so just use Titanium Backup or Root Explorer to clean up whatever is remaining. This will keep it stock without the bloat.

Successfully converted M919 to i9505G with stock recovery

In case people here do not check the i9505 forums. I followed these steps
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2360346
to fix a soft bricked i9505g on my M919 Tmobile Galaxy S4. Everything worked perfectly even though odin/download mode had lots of errors showing on the s4's screen.
Google wallet activated, LTE, wifi. So far I cannot find anything wrong.
Partitions are still the same as the original phone so there should be no reason you cant use odin to return to stock.
I take no responsibility if you do this and something gets hosed but its working great for me. If you want stock google but dont want to deal with peoples custom roms this may be the way to go.
You my friend are a bloody reckless, and absolutely brilliant Sir! I might give this a try. Waiting for a bit more feedback, but well played! :highfive:

Someone on there did it with a i9505 and confirmed it working so i figured I might as well give it a shot. Especially since our phones are closer to the i9505g than the i9505 is.
Have you managed to get the radios and baseband flashed? I would be curious to see how it works
i just flash i9505 miui rom on my tmo g s4 everything works fine

No, same baseband. Im not that brave.
So, flashing the modem.bin in Odin gives me an authentication failure. I just figured I would mention that. Attempted to flash it through the phone option.
I wonder what will happen when there's an OTA update.

It'll fail. Google OTA's have historically included bootloaders and modem updates. As a result, those won't be able to be flashed for the same reason they can't be flashed in Odin (sig mismatch).

That's all the reason you need. Nice find.
I read that GPe has a much better battery life. Did you notice any improvement?

Havn't really had time to check
Looks like im only getting LTE data and not HSPA. It connects to HSPA but no actual data transfers. Calls work fine though. Edge works fine as well
edit: restored phone back to stock using odin, everything working fine now.
Really dont know if its something i did or was something else that caused it.

Note2 Keyboard for 4.4.2 (WIP)

UPDATE: @enewman17 and @talkingmonkeys have created a working Samsung keyboard for TouchWiz 4.4.2 for SGS3. It is located here in its own thread.
For historical purposes, below is my original attempt.
-------------------------
I updated my phone to @saranhai and @DocHoliday77 's 4.4.2 ND8 port. I have been using @enewman17's Note2 keyboard on Dandroid 4.1.2 for months, so I preferred to keep the same layout.
I used his 4.3 version and modded it to work on 4.4.2. I am not as experienced in smali as others on the forum, but I was able to get the keyboard working with no FCs (so far, been a few hours of use). Unfortunately, I had to remove a few references to "EmojiParser", so I cannot guarantee how well emojis will work; I never use them so I was not worried. If you report bugs, I can try to fix them, but I cannot guarantee it. As usual, logcats will be the best method.
As usual, I cannot be held responsible if your device bricks or you make a nuclear weapon using this keyboard. Make a nandroid, flash, and probably wipe the dalvik cache to be safe.
Let me also reiterate, I am not the original developer, @enewman17 is. He's been a great help to our community and graciously agreed to let me put this up. I simply modded his keyboard.
If you can improve it, by all means. If you can host it elsewhere, by all means. (It's hosted on my personal Dropbox, so I cannot guarantee uptime.)

It wasn't correct but even redownloading it I'm not having much luck. It still won't appear at all. Thinking its something on my end but if you don't mind double checking it and uploading another one I'll try it later today.

I got it working after a clean flash of StockMod Rom. So, it might be something that was modified. So, far I installed most my mods and it is still working.

I'm not a graphic designer. I do have the images available. If you or someone would like to modify them, I can make them available as a download, and can repack the keyboard with the new design.
