Hi all,
This is my first post here on xda. I have a DesireZ (unbranded) for almost 2 years now, running the Virtuous Sense rom for half a year. I want to change to the Gen.Y VisionX R1 ROM, but I have a question.
In the topic of the custom rom is mentioned:
Flash via recovery (CWM/4EXT). Full wipe is recommended!
* T-Mobile G2 users: remember to flash the Desire Z HBOOT before installing this rom
First boot will take a while (5-10 mins).
Recommended radio: 26.13.04.19 (rename to PC10IMG.zip, put in the root of your sdcard and flash in bootloader)
Just to be sure, am I correct that flashing the HBOOT and radio is only needed when I have a T-Mobile G2 branded phone? Or flashing the radio to 26.13.04.19 is recommended for all DZ users? But not flashing the HBOOT. This bit of text is not clear to me.
I'm not a noob with custom roms, but I don't want a phone I can't use. That why this question.
Greetings.
I don't think the radio needs to be changed. I could be wrong. You can always change the radio afterwards though. So not a big deal.
You don't need to do anything with hboot. Only G2 users need to flash the DZ hboot to give them the room in /system for the larger Sense ROMs to fit.
First of all I don't recommended R1 it is having lots of problems now so just download the B5. To your question the desire z hboot is only for g2 users. This helps to give them more system space for sense ROMs also the radio helps in battery life, call and data quality if a dev is giving you a radio to use then you should know its connected to the smooth running of the ROM, you can also flash the radio later....

I bought a DHD that already has S-OFF and currently using Android Revolution HD/4G 2.1.
I want to update to the latest Android Revolution HD (5.1.10) and just want to confirm some things...
It is recommended to flash Radio 12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2 and I am currently using 26.03.02.26_M. Is it a must to update the Radio? and will I also need to update the Kernel?
No, it's not a must to update the radio. It's only recommended. You can flash whatever radio you desire. And no. A kernel is included in the rom but if you like to flash a new kernel you can do that.

Anyway, although is a risky process, doing it through fastboot is not very difficult to do. I don't know how it goes with another radio since I updated mine to install ARHD.
Thanks guys. got it all working good now.
The newest ARHD always includes new radio.

are you 100% on this? I was sure radio had normally to be flashed via fastboot not through clockwork, respect to the developers if they do go to the trouble of integrating the flash of the radio into the rom though
I can confirm that ARHD does not include a new radio, just RILs for the recommended radio.

Dev says to flash radio they feels better for their ROM.
I've installed AR 5.1.10 and flash new radio....
it's really easy...really....just extract downloaded file and read the guide inside! (3steps...)
Hi I'm sorry if this post was already answered but i'm having a bit of a problem with the latest version of Unity. Every time i install the ROM for the first time, it finishes and then reboots. It stays on the HTC logo screen and then the screen turns black and reboots back into CWM recovery. Like i said before, i don't know if this question has been posted before but i would appreciate the help a lot. Thanks .
maybe there's a setting that you tell it to restart with cwm recovery?
Um i don't think there is lol. I just flashed it like i did with older versions and it just does not want to boot up .
If u're using G2, you may want to flash DZ's Hboot before using any unity ROM
check out this link http://www.virtuousrom.com/2011/06/t-mobile-g2-users-migrating-to-desirez.html
Yeah, As posted above, you'll need Dz Hboot, bcoz g2 hboot has 400mb of system memory where the rom will install and not enough for unity, and the dz hboot has 535mb of system memory.

not may, but you must have the DZ HBOOT to flash 1.26. 1.25 works fine on G2 though.
I have just recently rooted and s-off my desire HD and now i'm looking to flash a new rom.
Do I need to wipe the phone before I flash a new one?
do I need to flash a new radio as well?
This is my first time doing this.
also could you suggest a rom that is stable and will give better battery life.
Android Revolution HD is popular among these forums. Very stable and excellent battery life.
You will need to wipe the phone as you are coming from a different ROM. Had you been coming from the same ROM albeit an earlier version, then you wouldnt need to wipe. In all other cases you do need to wipe.
You do not need to flash a radio unless you are having problems with the current one. This is because flashing a radio has a much greater risk of causing problems than flashing a ROM does. Therefore try to keep radio flashing to a minimum. Although it is recommended to flash the recommended radio for each ROM you install. Most of the time however the same radio is recommended for many ROMS.
If you need any help with the steps just ask and we will do our best to help

Android Revolution HD? That would require a full wipe, a new radio for a better battery life. (All given in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840040)
Looks like I'm slow
I have had a look on the android revolution hd rom page, and according to how I read things, am I right in thinking that I would have to flash the radio on this page to be compatible with the rom?
I read somewhere that if the rom is not compatible with the radio you can run into major problems.
how would I check if my existing radio is compatible with this or any other rom.
since I am new to this, I would rather not flash a new radio till I become more confident in what i am doing.
I have read the rom flashing guide, and the process seems straight forward, but its the radio and rom compatible issues that i am concerned about as I do not want to brick my phone.
When flashing new rom and radio, wich one should be done first

Both work, I flashed radio first but many people also flashed Rom first, no problems.
Regarding competibility of ARHD and stock radio, it is compatible, just that you may suffer some battery loss etc

Hello to everybody!!
This is the first time I write here but I read it since long time.
I'm using AN-Droid custom ROM and it's very good but unfortunately the power consumption is a little bit higher than Froyo RUU. The question is: what happen if I flash Froyo RUU keeping Oxygen r2 HBOOT I'm using now for custom ROM?
Is RUU able to re-flash the partition map or will I get a bad error?
thank you in advance,
regards
It obviously won't fit so you'll have to fix what you break by doing it.
If you're flashing a Froyo sense RUU, you want to first fastboot flash the downgrade.img hboot from the alpharev website to allow the RUU to overwrite it.
If you're flashing a custom Froyo sense Rom, you just need to flash the stock alpharev hboot first.
No point using a,RUU unless you are sending to HTC though. Custom will be better.
Try getting your roms from xda. They're good here. Try to go for ones people have heard of and report good battery life on. If a custom Rom battery cannot match Froyo 2.2 sense official, then that's really poor

Hi,
thanks a lot for your prompt reply....I'll think till 100 before to risk to flash RUU keeping the current HBOOT
thanks again
ciao
i have rooted my HTC G2 by this way:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...sion#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD
I installed my first rom just fine, my first rom is
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117841
the vision core droid v1.0
now I want to switch to a new rom, i have tried many rom, but I did not get any one of them working. I have wiped the data every time....
My hboot version is hboot-0.76.2000
clockworkMod recovery v3.0.2.4
is it because I have the older version of hboot or recovery?
Or is it because it has something to do with the kernel?
Please help, thank you! I'm too noob to figure out, I have done a lot of research on it... I even tried to upgrade it to vision core droid v1.2, still not working, just goes to htc white screen and return back to recovery. some other rom just stuck at white htc screen after flashing.... now i can only reinstall the coredroid v1.0 back to my phone... seems like this is the only rom works for my phone....
thank you for your time!
What sort of roms have you tried flashing? Sense 3 roms?
Cause you have the g2 hboot, so sense 3 roms shouldn't work.
Try flash cyanogenmod and see if that works.

I have been flashing sense rom's.... is there a way i can flash sense rom? I really like the sense rom... thanks i'm using google G2

so if i just install the Desire Z hboot to g2, then my g2 should be ok with any sense rom's right? I just want to make sure. thanks!
Yes, you'll be able to use every rom made for the dz and g2 with the dz hboot.
The g2 hboot doesn't allow sense 3.x roms

thanks a lot, it really worked.. appreciated!!!
