I want to flash CM9 alpha 8 ,and at the memont I have CWM recovery 5.0.4 ...
can I flash CM9 ALPHA 8 using this CWM or do I must have the newest version of CWM (6)?
You mean 5.5.0.4??
If so, Arco says you can use either CWM 5 or 6 in his OP.....
But, somewhere in the back of my mind I remember 5 being updated for another CM9 compatible Recovery.....some time ago.
Why not just go to 6.0.1.2??
To be sure???
Sent either from my Sammy GT-i8150 or my Momo11 Bird Tablet!!
CWM 5 works fine.
Nevermind
I've already flashed CWM 6 ..thanks anyway

Last night I flashed CM9 Alpha 1 onto my Epic4G Touch using QBKing's video's and everything went perfect. I backed up my Stock Rom and then flashed the Alpha build and now I wanted to back it up, but my CWM Recovery is now gone. If anyone could give me advice on how to bring it back up or install it again, I would greatly appreciate it!
Thank you in advance!
Matt
There is a reason a cwm is not in the kernel with cm9 so people don't use it and brick their phones ....I would advise against using any ics kernel with cwm ....Odin a GB kernel like el26 " your ics ROM won't boot with the GB kernel" download a ics kernel before you do all this ... Odin the kernel el26 boot into cwm backup cm9 & then flash the ics kernel back and clear cache and dalvik and it will be backed up but remember it will be backed up with the GB installed so it wont boot u will have to remember if you go to the backup to flash that ics kernel or it will never boot

Epix4G, I am sorry, but that is very confusing. I have no idea what you're talking about.

Then truthfully maybe you should not be messing with it you have a good chance of bricking and if you don't know what I am talking about you may not have the ability to flash this right now...it's easy to brick with these ics roms
I told you step by step how to do it

I understand what you were saying, but it made no sense the way you wrote it, lol. Do you have a link with this information that is clearer?
1 download a ics kernel ie.. Fc22 etc
2 download GB kernel el26 this is a strait cwm not rouge or acs..
3 use Odin to install el26 kernel your cm9 will not boot with this kernel but it's no problem.
4 reboot into cwm it's blue ...make your nandroid ...
5 if you want to stay on your cm9 then use the cwm to flash the ics kernel you downloaded in #1 ...
6 if you want to flash anything else go ahead and do it ...
7 when you want to go back to your cm9 use Odin to flash the el26 again " you can use mobile Odin to do all this also "
8 when going from ics to anything Odin to stock or the el26 kernel and go from there ..
That is the safest way
Sorry I am on my phone or I would find all the links for you

On their website theres a link for recovery 6011.
I am runing on 5.0.2.6 (think so, my phone is on the 10 min reboot time now)
Do I really need to update ? And how is it suposed to be done.

While, its not necessary to update your recovery, its nice to have the latest versions of any software, including recoveries. Bug fixes are typically ironed out in the latest version. In the case of CWM, Darkside scripts are no longer required. To update your recovery, download the zip, and flash it in your current recovery. Then reboot your recovery, or your phone. When you go back to your recovery, the new one will be there.
Make sure the recovery is for our phone

This will explain the process and as for a custom rom, I'd suggest that you look at a few and pick one that looks interesting to try; there are several excellent roms available for the E4GT.
mobile odin...in playstore or there is a free apk floating around on xda..once this is installed go grab a gb27 kernal withagats recovery from repository..and grab the el 29 direct boot kernal...el29 is safe to flash any rom from...download rom of choice..make sure this is all on ur root of sdcard...open mobile odin.click on kernal.go to ur el29 kernal and pick it and flash..odin will check md5,but u should too..once in recovery hit volume down , volume up , volume down..now ur power button is enabled as ur enter button..wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache,in advanced....do anything specif from rom op that the dev says...read,read,read....lol..rom should have a kernal with it...u might have to flash gapps zip....reboot....if this is ur first time on jb...i suggest getting a one-click restore so ur system partition is right for jb...there r great guides in repository for all of this...dont forget to thank ur rom dev and rwillco and any others that helped....good luck and as always...im not responsible if ur phone blows up or ur microwave runs away...lol

You need to be on ICS modem, which can be flashed in cwm after you flash your ROM.

Now, where do I find an ICS modem? And after I flash the safe kernal should I flash the ICS Modem with CWM and then CM 10.1 Or does it not matter?

Google is your friend . Here's all modems for the E4GT. And flash the ROM first, then the modem, then reboot, and profit!

Thank you to all that helped out. I figured it all out, and am running FB27 modem.
Alright im having a bit of a problem and I cant seem to find any threads to help me. I recently flashed an Epic 4G for my girlfriend to a different carrier and while flashing, I installed the CWM from the video QT has on youtube with CWM 5.0.2.7 or whatever and well I flashed CM 10.1.2 over stock before reading MTD and BML and such (Yeah Im an idiot) so I went back to stock 2.3.6 but now when I follow QTs guide and try to do it again to flash deoxed rooted rom, it gives me an error and says (bad) after zip for every/any zip. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Are you back on stock FC09? If not, then which one are on?
v5.0.2.7 is for BML Roms only.
V5.5x.x+ are MTD Roms only.

Thanks for your reply. Yes I'm back on Stock FC09.. No matter what zip I try to flash it fails and says (bad).. I can only think maybe I did something when I went from stock FC09 to CM10.1.2 MTD then reflashed back to stock fc09?

Well, redownload v5.0.2.7 (can get from my devhost in Sig), and Odin that in without reboot checked. Then 3-finger boot to recovery. From there you can flash whatever ROM you want.
If you're on stock FC09, then the stock kernel has reflashed stock recovery since the last time you flashed CWM. On top of that, this would mean you're trying to flash from within stock recovery, which is a no no.

OK, so when you 3 finger into recovery it says Clockworkmod 5.0.2.7 at the top? It is possible that either you have bad downloads of the ROMs or the sd card is bad. Which ROM are you trying to flash?

When I redownload and odin it and 3 finger it; it still says bad.. I know it isnt stock recovery because it says on top CWM 5.0.2.7 based.. :S Im not that new in flashing thing, Ive flashed a D2G and an Epic touch so idk
Did you include the PIT file when odining the stock FC09? It should have automatically checked repartition then.

See I thought it was the SD card too so I tried a different one with same results. Im trying to install the odexed one in QTs video... The already prerooted stock rom Ive also tried a few others all with same results :S Sorry for the double post btw.
OK, I recommend you start over. Odin in the FC09 tar and include the PIT file so repartition is checked. Once you have pure stock on the phone then this thread should follow the video by Qbking: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2006687. Choose the MTD version for ease to get to CM10
