Android 4.0.4 w/ Sense 4.1: OTA Update Stuck, hung or frozen? - HTC One X

Yesterday, I downloaded the 4.0.4 OTA update and opted to install it. My phone was fully charged and plugged in to the charger. It is now stuck on a screen that is mostly black, with a little icon in the center (three green arrows, like a recycling or refresh icon, hovering slightly above a shadowy image of a phone)
It had been like this for an enormously long time when I left the office, last night. This morning, the screen was off and the LED was green but pressing the power button simply returned the black-screen-with-central-refresh-like-icon... and the LED went red.
What can I do?
I have made no attempt to root the device or mess with it in any way, since it is fairly new.

Unplug the charger

Ok - charger unplugged.
Now what? Wait for it to run out of battery and restart it in a day or so?

Re-run the OTA, it'll work now

EDIT: EddyOS beat me to it

Aside: Why doesn't it instruct you to unplug the charger before running the OTA in the first place? In fact, it tells you to ensure the phone is at least 35% charged... which, to me, is like a big flashing banner in all-caps instructing you to plug IN the charger before updating.
Back on topic: I have unplugged the charger and the phone is still stuck at the black-screen-with-central-refresh-like-icon. I'd gladly re-run the OTA... but how? Also, How can I reboot the phone to install an RUU since it has no removable battery or reset button as far as I can tell?
Also, which RUU? I am in South Africa and the phone comes from a local network, MTN. It is not carrier branded. It is black and GSM.
My previous phone was the original desire and I rooted that, turned S-OFF, loaded a bazillion ROMS over the 3 years during which I used it. I am quite happy to use tools like fastboot and other SDK tools. It never gave me ANY problems. Not once.

Hold the power button for about 10 seconds to force the hox to reboot.
If it reboots the ota should work without it being plugged in to the charger, if not to find the right ruu you need to know what your cid is and what software version you were already on

Holding power button... ooh. This looks promising...

Here's hoping lol
sent from my One X using xda venom premium

Ok. Holding the power-button to restart the phone caused the OTA to start from scratch - it seems to have worked. Thank you, all!

No worries, glad it's sorted

[Q] Bricked G2

First off let me just say, I already know this is most likely a full brick with no chance of recovery.
Anyway, when my sister got a G2 a while back I perm-rooted and s-off'd it for her. I later flashed the CM 6 RC and that's what she's been on this whole time.
Apparently her new boyfriend is "tech savvy" and has the same phone, so he asked if she wanted to be updated to CM 7 and gave it a shot without letting me know first.
He bricked it, I'm almost certain of it. He said he tried to update it to the newest radio via adb and got an error saying something like "memory is full" or "cant write, no more space" or something like that. He then turned it off so he could "try again", but from then on it wouldn't turn on anymore -__-
I know that a bad radio flash leads to a brick so I'm guessing there's nothing i can do for her, but I've never bricked any of my devices so i thought i'd ask to be sure. As of right now, when i press the power button the screen stays off. No images, no lights, no nothing. I've tried holding the power button + volume down/up and nothing. It simply does nothing. The charging light still turns on if i plug it into the wall charger but nothing happens when i connect it to a computer.
Is there anything I can do to help her besides telling her to get a new one?
Sounds like a brick to me, did he try flashing the ENG. Hboot ? If he screwed something up while doing this the result would be exactly what you are describing.

have you tried pulling the battery then re-seating it and booting into recovery?
Also take out battery and hold power as you put battery back in. Worth a shot

I say smack it off his head a few times.
If its a brick you might as well use it for some good (Y)

he has the same phone right... TO ME what i see is... her boyfriend has a new bricked g2... and you sister has a new g2 with CM7 installed on it... so much for tech savvy... if i remenber right the best and only way to flash radio is through fastboot..

This guy has it right your sister has a new G2 with cm7 and he has nice expensive paper weight tell him thats what he gets for ****ing with stuff he knows nothing about
My LEDs don't even lit up when I plug it into the wall charger. Into the PC neither. I do get a hardware detected notification though, but Windows 7 isn't able to find the correct driver (for a what's apparently called QHSUSB_DLOAD). I have all HTC and Android drivers installed since I have the Android SDK and HTC Sync+drivers installed.

stuck on boot screen:(

my wife just got her htc one x today. opened it up, turned it on.....phone turned off while she was putting in her account details. when turned back on its stuck on the boot screen and saying its for developers only. any way to fix this? when plugged in theres no charging light or anything. please help
anyone? really wanna know if i'll need a replacement before i've even got to use it
Press and hold the power button and volume button till you get to the hboot screen. Tell me what it says there, either 'locked,' 'relocked,' or 'unlocked.' And whether it says S OFF or S ON below it. Tell me this and I'll tell you how to fix it

When there is a saying for developers only in red color, it means that One X is not a brand new, someone already unlock the bootloader and flash an old version of CWM on it. It is best to get a replacement if you meant to buy a brand new device.
And it get stuck on boot screen due to low battery.

Or, it could be that the person relocked the bootloader while on a custom ROM. But like the OP said, it randomly rebooted, WHILE it was being used. @OP, try running an RUU after checking if the bootloader is locked/relocked

sorry for late replies guys. yes to confirm it was brand new, just out of the box for a minute, bought from dial a phone in the uk which is a big retailer. it came sim free as most of their phones do. Simply opened the box, turned on and it turned off during the input of details, ie our wifi password to be exact.
After that came the red writing with developers only, now nothing. been on the charge all day, still no charging light. tried the wall socket, tried via usb to 2 pc's, and the volume/power thing doesn't work either. how long should we need to hold it to do that?

Sounds like you may have got a test device by accident, not necessarily a bad thing if you plan to custom rom?

tried it guys for 15 secs at least with no joy. seems to be dead. no charging light. seems quite a few people have seen the red writing. not into custom roms really as it'll be for my wife and she likes stock.

Won't boot & Not able to charge

i'm so frustrated right now.
i've got this phone yesterday , this is not a brand new product.
It was running ICS from beginning, after that i tried to firgure out how to upgrade to JB, and finally i've choosed OTA update because it was safe until.......
It was good on first time upgrading, until the second (more than 100mb upgrade pack) then boot loop all time. I didn't know why it was happen, but i reminded that in my one x storage also have a .zip file name viper_something.zip , so it make me relate to the viper custome rom on the forum that i've seen last nite.
So maybe the problem was that i've tried use OTA upgrade on the custome ROM that i didn't know , and that was more terrible when my phone was out of batterry, it can't charge althought i've tried something before it was out.
i was tried to fastboot erase cache when my phone just had little energy, erase cache process was complete but nothing change.
I also went to fastboot and choose power down my phone, then pluge charge (follow by a member on the forum) , and after one nite charging, it was do nothing.
Now my phone just have blink red light and seem like it won't be charge.
So what should i do next ? i also tried to firgure out the similar problem on the forum but i can't firgured out. Have any idea for the solution. I can't believe my phone was dead after one day used.
If you're charging the phone on VERY LOW battery, the red light will blink. After some time it becomes stable.

how long does it take stable bro?
Is your charger plugged into an outlet or computer?? When charging your phone from a dead or soon to be dead state, always use a physical outlet. Like the other post mentioned if battery is fully dead or very low red LED light will flash for awhile with my past experience.

Nexus 7 wont turn on (Help desperately needed!!!)

Well im in a bit of a predicament, my Tab died while my cousin was using it and now ive put it on charge for 30 mins and it wont get past the flashing x boot screen googled it and noticed someone else has the same issue, is it common? any help?
You should be able to download and reflash the rom if needed but not sure if you have too.
What was your friend doing to it? Was he trying to unlock and root, etc?
Will it sync to your PC?

Last night I had a similar issue, it won't pass the initial Google logo.
I just held the power button down for a while, and it turned off, then I powered it on again and everything was fine.
It happened after I tried a bunch of apps and decided to restart it.

My won't get past the flashing x at all, rebooted several times, charged it, everything but it won't turn on
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I am guessing it's related to the letting the battery run out of juice.
Charging a completely dead lithium battery may take much longer time. For several times I have to plugin and wait half hour to several hours before the battery even start charging, of course those were on other devices, but I think it should be common among all such batteries. May be the battery hasn't been charged at all.
Since you are still in US, I would suggest take it back for a exchange, whatever the reason, the device should be considered faulty. If you brought it on Amazon then just return and mail it out before you leave.
fixed it by resetting the device in recovery, all works fine now, found a dead pixel now not going to risk returning it now, device is working fine
Seems like it's a 4.3 issue

Nexus 5X Bricked after Andriod 7 Update

Hi
I updated the latest OTA Android 7 last night and the phone will not turn on and my laptop does not recognise it at all.
Do I now have an expensive paper weight?
Anybody else had this?
Thanks

So when you say "I updated the latest OTA Android 7 last night"- does that mean Google actually pushed it to you or did you sideload it?
I'm having the same issue but didn't sideload it - I was away from my phone for several hours, came back and it was dead, no boot up nothing and I have no idea why or if N was pushed to my device while I was not watching.
The ota update wont install unless you give permission to download and then restart to install...

in the forums someone said that if nothing works then few bands pressing the power button will dry the battery out after a day. later it should work again (after some charging ofc )
Hi
OK, it was not side loaded it was OTA I gave permission and it downloaded installed rebooted and then died.
I will leave it off charge for a day or two and then give it another try,
FYI, my record for holding the buttons down so far is 2 minutes then I gave up and my fingers where blue.
Thanks for your help

My phone seems to be having the same issues yours is having. I got a notification that Android 7.0 Nougat was available, so I downloaded it. Sunday night I was playing on my phone when it froze, I turned it off and tried to restart it. It flashed the Google Splash screen and then died. Its been 3 days since my phone has worked. During this time I've tried everything I could think of to try to make it start. My computer won't even recognize the device. I get a "device descriptor request failed" notification from my computer. I called Google on Sunday and they're sending me a warranty replacement.
I tried to turn it on this morning and the LED flashed red. I'm going to charge it and see what happens. Hopefully, I can pull my pictures off of the phone before the warranty item arrives. (I'm dumb/paranoid and didn't back them up on Google Cloud. Lesson learned.)
Guys. Are we on stock recovery, bootloader & radio? If people are flashing ota's with modified recovery's, this is the problem.

wow stock phones having this? Scary.
Ive done this to myself in the past. I know people generally frown on this advice but Ive used wugfresh's tool box to pop it back to life.
Generally I plug the phone in and just fiddle with the power and refreshing the TB until something get recognized. One time I was able to get it to the bootloader than just let google do everything from there.
Scary stuff.
Are you at least seeing a backlight?
