System update ? 8-29-12 - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I just received a system update. was rooted from oden with the near official IC . i did the update and was expecting it to fail from the root but it went through. It rebooted and when it came back up it finished installing 2 of 2. I saw my norton scanning a NASCAR app but think i missed one before that .
What i am wondering is what the update changed ?
it also looks like root is GONE , according to Titanium backup
info is now

[Q] cant' update

For the past month or so I keep getting a message that my phone has a new system update available, but every time I push "Yes, update now" the phone says it will restart, and then a countdown from 10 begins. When it gets down to 0 nothing happens... does anyone know why my phone will not update? I have a rooted Incredible that's running:
2.2
2.15.00.07.28
2.6.32.15-gb7b01d1
[email protected] #1
3.21.605.1 CL231334 release-keys
3.21.605.1
Sounds odd, my suggestion would be trying to reboot it manually- but I'm assuming you've already tried that.
Of course.. you could do a backup of your apps and install a custom ROM on your phone and restore all your apps and data
Yeah, tried manual reboot but no luck. Does anyone know what the update is? Like I mentioned, it originally started about a month or so ago, and shows up about every two days or so...
Something to add, my wife has a totally stock incredible and the only difference I see between hers and mine is her Kernel version is 2.6.32.17-g9afc16 and mine is 2.6.32.15-gb7b01d1... and also her Build number shows 3.26.605.1 CL264707 and mine shows 3.21.605.1 CL234334.
I'm assuming hers already updated so does anyone know why mine won't update?
I thought you couldn't receive updates while rooted. Unless S-on with stock RUU.
Is your wife rooted too?
Sent from my ADR6300
That's correct Jesssiii, you cannot get OTA updates when the phone is rooted & not running the stock ROM.
No my wife's phone is not rooted, which is prob why she was able to update. I figured that it had something to do with the phone being rooted. How can I manually find this update? Is there a link on this site somewhere?

Cannot update to latest 4.04 OTA on Unlocked GSM Nexus

So, I purchased two identical unlocked gsm nexus phones on separate occasions. The problem is, on my first one, I have upgraded to the latest 4.04 build (IMM76L) which was like 708kb...but the second...it will not complete that update. I constantly get the little android guy on his back with the red exclamation point. It will not finish the install. The phones bootloader was unlocked because I flashed to yakju back when I got it...but again, one phone works and updated fine but the second didn't. Maybe something else was already updated or something...but here are the other pieces of relevant info:
Phone 1 which updated correctly:
Baseband: I9250XXLA2
Kernel: 3.0.8-gda6252b
Build: IMM76L
Phone 2 which DIDN'T update:
Baseband: I9250XXKK6
Kernel: 3.0.8-g034fec9
Build: IMM76D
I guess my main question is how do I get Phone 2 updated successfully...the phone keeps telling me the update is available, yet it never completes, so I am constantly getting the pop up which is really annoying.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Flash the 4.0.4 IMM76I directly.

is the recovery still stock on that one or did you install a different one when you flashed it? i'm thinking this was flashed with a toolkit and some would put a different recovery so it won't update as the update looks for a complete stock image.

Since your device has no data to lose, just flash the full IMM76I build by following the instructions here.

Not a clue, try reflashing your ROM and starting again, never seen such issues caused by rooting.

[Q] Will a new rom fix this Desire Z?

Hi
My daughter has a desire z and it is playing up on her:
Randomly rebooting
Year and date of phone changes randomly
I am thinking that I could just wipe the phone and reload the stock rom on and it may fix it (maybe just my winxp memories kicking in)
Im not too sure how to go about it though.
If I am loading a stock rom on it, do I need to root it?
Whats the easiest way to wipe the phone and relaod the rom?
Also, where would I get the rom from?
The phones details ATM:
Android Version: 2.2.1
Baseband Version: 12.28h.60.140fu_26.06.02.27_M
Kernel version: 2.6.32.21-g132894e

Fri Jan 14 13:17:35 CST 2011
Build number: 1.85.861.3 CL331649 release-keys
Software number: 1.85.861.3
Hope this helps and thanks for any help I get.
Since it appears that its running stock already I think you can factory reset from bootloader. You might also be able to flash the stock image from the bootloader. Wait for more responses until you do anything

Yes, you're on an old version.
2 options :
- rooting it and opening custom ROM choice
- updating via wifi with stock ROM (via Wifi in the system menu).

my daughter has actually just got herself an iphone so I am doing this phone up for my wife to use, as she has the same model but screen is cracked.
She fears change so I wanted to just put stock back on.
Is there an updated stock I can put on it?
I am not sure what is meant by "update from bootloader"?

You should be fine with stock, granted there are many superior custom ROMs based off stock but that's besides the point.
Simple fix is to do a factory reset in settings>privacy>factory reset, or something like that. Then being you are on froyo I would suggest doing an ota update, simple way is to go to settings>about pone>check for update.
Or from dialer type *#*#CHECKIN#*#*

We all tell the same.
1srt : erase data : From bootloader or from Menu ("reset factory " or something like that).
2nd : after booting again, update by wifi.
You must know that some data may certainly be lost (SMS, apps...)
Thanks for all your help.
I have done the factory reset and then upgraded via "check for update"
The phone is working fine and the missus is happy with it so I am not going to touch it anymore
Cheers

No, OTA updates will not work as most likely the device status will change to custom.
If you want to root and don't care about warranty then why not flash pre-rooted Stock or Custom ROM's after the OTA is released.
It just takes few days or sometime few hours for our awesome developers at XDA to upload the rooted ROMs and you always have a choice to get back to stock.
Once you root, you can update to latest android versions(custom roms) even before the OTA is released.
I'm relatively new to rooting but once I rooted it, haven't looked back. In my opinion, it's totally worth it. I have better battery life and it is so much faster than the laggy Samsung android skin.

The correct answer is...It depends. I was rooted prior to the OTA 4.3 update and used Triangle Away to make my device status read "normal" thus allowing me to update via OTA. Was this the right way? No. While my device fully updated reads status normal, offical no Knox counter tripping ~ Tmobile health device and store computers see my phone as rooted. Why? I believe this is do to me not undoing Super User first.
However there may be light at the end of the tunnel (or so I hope).
Op's phone is already on 4.3,
triangle away does not work on 4.3 bootloader and he won't be able to change device status and apply the OTA.
There might be other ways which I am not aware of.

Yes you'll get the OTA even if you are rooted, as long as you do not modify any system files. Only rooting the phone will not restrict you from getting an OTA. This is explained beautifully here: http://www.androidcentral.com/android-forums-getting-ota-after-rooting
