So, I purchased two identical unlocked gsm nexus phones on separate occasions. The problem is, on my first one, I have upgraded to the latest 4.04 build (IMM76L) which was like 708kb...but the second...it will not complete that update. I constantly get the little android guy on his back with the red exclamation point. It will not finish the install. The phones bootloader was unlocked because I flashed to yakju back when I got it...but again, one phone works and updated fine but the second didn't. Maybe something else was already updated or something...but here are the other pieces of relevant info:
Phone 1 which updated correctly:
Baseband: I9250XXLA2
Kernel: 3.0.8-gda6252b
Build: IMM76L
Phone 2 which DIDN'T update:
Baseband: I9250XXKK6
Kernel: 3.0.8-g034fec9
Build: IMM76D
I guess my main question is how do I get Phone 2 updated successfully...the phone keeps telling me the update is available, yet it never completes, so I am constantly getting the pop up which is really annoying.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Flash the 4.0.4 IMM76I directly.

is the recovery still stock on that one or did you install a different one when you flashed it? i'm thinking this was flashed with a toolkit and some would put a different recovery so it won't update as the update looks for a complete stock image.

Since your device has no data to lose, just flash the full IMM76I build by following the instructions here.

Hi all,
I just received a new GNex from Vodafone Australia. Can someone please help me figure out which version I have so I can update it?
I am running 4.0.4 (rooted)
The Baseband is:
I9250TDVLE1
The build is:
IMM76K.I9250TDVLE1
I could not find an update on google anywhere...
I found reference to my build pertaining to Toro, Magro and Verizon.
I can't see how all of these could be simultaneously true...
I thought '**** it' I ll roll back to a yakju 'official' 4.0.4 IMM76I ROM from here and then flash the Update to 4.1.1 JRO03C
But When I booted into CWM and tried to flash the imm76i, it would not let me. Is there something I am doing wrong or do not understand about swapping roms...?
(I cleared the cache / factory reset)
Am I stuck with IMM76I until google makes an 4.1.1 update, or can I flash another google rom somehow and get the update that way?
Cheers

That's because the package you downloaded on Google's Developers website needs to be flashed using fastboot, not CWM. Follow this thread to flash back to yakju, and you should be good to go.
Did this work for you? as i have the same phone and im tempted to do this but not if its going to mess the phone up. Damn you vodafone for having to be different

It would definitely work however if you even need to return your phone back to Vodafone, you may or may not run into some issues due to not being on their ROM. It's pretty hard to find random stock ROMs for places other than the main ones these days (or I just might be looking at the wrong places).

I'm sorry, I can't remember what I did, but I fixed it that night, which now feels like months ago.
I installed Nexus Root Toolkit v1.5.2, on a pc and I know that that helped me speed up the process.
You can't ruin anything unless you flash a rom not designed for the phone, or format the bios partition and then reboot (with out installing a new bios), but even then I'm sure you can install stuff from a pc over usb using that program.

Thanks New to Android as I have been an avid iOS user and jailbreaker for a few years so just catching up on rooting and flashing ROMs n stuff. But good to know it can be done as i Have the exactly same phone from Vodafone Australia. Better to be safe than sorry and ruining a 2 day old phone.

No worries mate, this is my 2nd android phone (first was a nexus s).
I learned a lot by rooting and playing with custom roms on that ph, but I have been really happy with stock jelly Bean on this (albeit rooted) device. Battery life is great, and it's a snappy phone with great features.
FYI I just read an interesting article Why Apple Won't Divorce Samsung today that explained how Samsung make all the chips for Apple products. You can't go wrong with Samsung mate.
Android users on this forum are generally friendly and Damn knowledgeable too.
Enjoy your new phone!

OK. The fact is that Vodafone and Telstra get all their updates later. This is because of the better 3g signals they have built in the phone. So due to this their updates come out a little while later. Also it depends where you are in the world (eg. UK, AU, USA) because the UK has already got the update as far as I know. So there is two options here to stay with Vodafone if something does go wrong so you have a backup. And referring to what Unlawful had said he is right you do need a stock Vodafone ROM or features and such can go wrong. BTW I am also with Vodafone but running a custom ROM.
Thank mate. I updated it manually, months ago.
The Gnex is an awesome phone (I upgraded from a NEXUS S), and with stock jelly Bean (rooted) with stock kernel it runs smoothly and is stable.
I miss rge Wolfson audio chip of the nexus s though bc audio recordings are terrible and crackling with the gnex.
Fast charge is something that I now need and otherwise I'm satisfied!
Hi,
I just received my Nexus. I got it from the middle east, it is GSM unlocked phone. The software version is
Android version: 4.0.2
Baseband version: I9250XXKK6
Kernel version: 3.0.8-gaaa2611 [email protected] #1
Build number: ICL53F.I9250JPLA1
Now to update my Nexus, do I do that through Kies or it's only through OTA? I tried connecting the phone to Kies but it just kept saying "connecting". Which version do I expect if I update at the moment 4.0.4 or 4.1 JB? I'm wondering because I'm waiting to know if Viber is compatible with JB or not? Is there a software to manage the phone that is similar to Kies? Is there an official update tool or something? I have had a few Samsung, but this is my first Nexus.
Sorry for the newbie questions, but I'm just clueless at the moment.
Thanks in advance!
Kies has nothing to do with the galaxy nexus. You should be receiving you update through an OTA (over the air) update. Just sit there calm.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
There's no Kies for the Nexus. If you want to update your phone, it'll be done via an OTA (notification in status bar) or manually Fastboot flashing an OTA .zip file.
Looking at your information, your phone is likely a non-yakju device, meaning that it gets updated by Samsung instead of Google (further evidenced by your device still being on 4.0.2). Because of this, you may want to consider changing your phone to "takju", which means it'll be updated by Google directly via OTA as soon as the update is available.
If you're interested in reading up on this, theres TONS of information... this phone is quite old at this point and this has been discussed so many times. If you want to flash to takju, follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895
If you plan on just rooting and ROMing, then converting to takju is pointless, as you'll just wipe all of that out when flashing custom ROMs.
Hi everyone, This is my first post and my first trouble
I have samsung galaxy nexus, Its made in korea (written at its back when we remove the battery), when i got this phone it was probably rooted because it was on 4.0.2 and software update was available to 4.1.1 but when the update completed and phone restarted, it suddenly shows me a red Exclamation mark and then nothing happens and i have to pull out the battery, i thought its because my phone is rooted. So, i searched on the internet about how to bring my nexus to stock factory rom, i found this thread to be helpful http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895 , so i followed all the steps excluding the last step saying to re-lock the bootloader... and downloaded this factory image from google Factory Images "takju" for Galaxy Nexus "maguro" (GSM/HSPA+) (with Google Wallet) - Android 4.0.4 (IMM76I), first i tried with the 4.1.2 but it says exceed buffers or something during installation, thats why i tried 4.0.4 (IMM76l) and it was installed on my nexus. It works fine, but still i can't update to a newer version of android, when i got in settings > system updates it shows me the update of around 144mb of adnroid version 4.1 but when it finished downloading, i get the same error, android with a red exclamation mark, and i have to restart...help me please i am writing here with full details about my firmware
Model Number: Galaxy Nexus
Android Version: 4.0.4
Baseband Version: SCO4DOMLA1
Kernal version: 3.0.8 - gda6252b
android - [email protected] #1
SMP PREEMPT fri Apr 13 11:35:09 PDT 2012
Build Number: IMM76l
and when i go to fastboot mode, it shows this detail:
Product name: tuna
Variant: maguro
HW version: 9
Bootloader version: PRIMEKK15
Baseband version: SC04DOMLA1
Carrier info: None
Serial number: 01498F8C0300600D
Signing: production
Lock state: Unlocked
Tell me, how to install a stock firmware which can be updated easily, tell me step by step, so that i can understand and follow it easily...
really doesnt get any easier than straight from GOOGLE
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
But, i am really confused, which image to install...i have tried few and they all failed when i try the first command in fastboot mode, it gives me error like exceed buffer size, please help me to choose which is the right update for me...
I believe that the relative error in fastboot is related to the fact that it was not flashed the correct bootloader present in the stock rom downloaded from Google ... following the efrant's guide, step by step, and the order of operations, should no longer give back the error and then allow properly flash the stock rom.

This is not an international gsm device, so the factory images will not work I believe, since it requires another radio, and neither will the OTA update.

what is the solution then, should i sell it? please guide me...and there is another problem that my nexus screen is showing some icons on its background that are slightly visible when the screen is white or anything which uses white color, is it a screen issue? or software problem...?
Screen burn in. A quick search suggests that any gsm image would work on the docomo version (takju, yakju). What does the phone say as far as device if you go into Maps > settings> about? It seems he could fastboot flash everything except the radio..

what about my screen problem. why there are slight icons whcih are noticeable when the screen is white and it shows that there are icons on the background.
Immediately below your platform, it should say what firmware your device is running (yakju, yakjux, yakjuxx, etc.). Im just wondering because i know all yakjus are convertible. But i guess just knowing its a maguro is detail enough. As far as screen burn in, turn down your brightness. I never run mine above say 40%.

Well, when i got this phone, it was like this, i did not noticed screen burns when i was buying it, can i do something to fix those screen burns myself, i dont want to spend money to replace the led screen?
Secondly, help me i dont understand much what is radio or baseband or whatever, i just want to use jelly bean...tell me how to update it, please
Again, turn down your brightness. And you already mentioned the only thread you should need: efrant's return to stock thread. If you don't understand something, keep trying to learn before you mess with your phone.
Hi, I'm not sure if theres thread on this but my signal is lost. two weeks ago i wake up one morning to find my service isnt working, the sim does work on my two old phones so it's not a sim issue. I then found my baseband is unknown. So I searched and found some fixes which are too flash the radio with a new radio through either clockwork mode or nexus toolkit. I've tried 5 different radios all being diffrent updates of the galaxy nexus radio. I was runnung 4.2.1(which i hated) but now I got android revolution HD 2.1.2 and ak kernel and downgraded to 4.0.2(yes the phone is unlocked and rooted). I was wondering can anyone tell me whats wrong before I factory lock it and unroot and send it in for warranty repair. Btw phone was with Rogers/Fido carrier.
Since you've done all that, we don't know what's wrong with it. 4.0.2? You're missing out on security fixes (been talked about a lot lately), new features, optimizations, not sure why you're running it. That aside, and I'm not saying it will do anything for you, you could try GetRil from the Play Store, to see what RIL you have installed, and if it recognizes any baseband at all. Your radio (or radios, we don't even know which variant you have) may be dead, who knows? What's the latest baseband you flashed? What's the latest bootloader you flashed?

I wanted 4.1.2 but for some reason I got 4.0.2 so I have no idea, but I'm going to stick with ice cream sandwhich since 4.2.1 update had tons and I mean TONS of bugs that wanted me to kill my nexus.

I have an unlocked AT&T Note II that I purchased from Swappa, so I did not do any of the modifications myself. I've been happy with the phone, it's stable, battery life is good and about the only thing that doesn't work is video out. Which is why I want to update the phone. I haven't played with Android in years and this is my main phone, so I need to proceed carefully.
I'm on Straight Talk, so I also need to make sure I keep my phone unlocked as well as rooted.
What would be the safest path to a newer ROM or rooted-stock firmware that has video out working, as well as the main phone functions, like AT&T LTE, stock camera, etc. ? Also, the Device status says "Modified", so I don't know how that affects any potential updates.
Current:
Android version: 4.1.2
Baseband version: I317UCAMH3
Kernel version: 3.0.31-1071214
Build number: CleanROM 5.0.0
ClockworkMod recovery installed, version 6, I think.
Edited: I finally got some useful hits by searching for MHL/HDMI/tv out but still digesting them...
You could install and run triangle away. After that, you could flash back to stock using Odin and stock AT&T firmware from Sammobile.com.
