Earphone jack damaged? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Basically no matter what headphone I use the sound is weird (as in right earphones doesn't work as well) and I'm sure it's not the earphone problem because I tested it on other devices and it was fine. How much would it cost to repair the jack? (I have no insurance or anything whatsoever)

Take a q-tip and get some 90% to 99% isopropyl alcohol, unless you happen to have some denatured alcohol around, which is even better... anyway with the phone off use the qtip soaked in alcohol to clean the jack out real well... it very well may just be dirty.
Failing that the headphone jack/vibrator motor is modular and very easy to replace so if cleaning it does not fix it you can pick one of these up ( http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=261082471428&index=1&nav=SEARCH&nid=63510570868) and have it fixed for $20... its super easy to take apart and change so I wouldn't worry about having to do it yourself. Good luck with it dude and you most definitely do NOT need a new phone...

If you are using a custom kernel try switching back to the stock kernel for awhile and see if it goes away. I've noticed some songs with heavy bass lines will distort when using a kernel with the audio level tweaked.
I almost broke a pair of hundred dollar blue tooth headphones because I thought they were busted only to find out it sounded the same on a pair of regular headphone that I knew were good
If u have insurance on ur phone u can take it to Sprint and they will replace it free. Even if ur rooted. Also if u don't have insurance its 35 bucks
Ignorance is bliss but servitude is its partner
Be careful having your phone around any kind of metal machining/grinding work. The magnet in the speaker will attract any metal dust/particles nearby and the holes in the battery cover and mesh over the speaker opening are too big to stop the smaller stuff. I'm on my third back speaker because of this. Luckily they're easy to change and the place I ordered from sells a minimum quantity of 5 per order.

Pretty sure it was a sarcastic joke. If both your phone and your friends phone sound bad, more than likely it isn't a physical problem with the speaker, and if you aren't running the exact same custom kernel, that probably isn't the issue either.
If they speaker never sounded good to you, it is simply that you are just noticing that the 1/2" cell phone speaker sounds like a dog turd, which is sadly to be expected.
The EVO speaker is one of the best phone speakers I have ever heard, most are smaller and even more tinny sounding.
Went to sprint about my speakers and they are giving Me a new one for free......

Messed up head phone jack

My headphone jack is starting to mess up
It sounds fine regularly but since I like my music sounding as good as I can make it I use an equalizer (the one in the stock music app) and I also use the bass boost music effect and then the music starts t crackle a lot (it didn't before) I also tried 5.1 just to check and that completely butchers the music now
I tried 2 pairs of good headphones and its like this on both so I concluded its a problem with my head phone jack.
Do I just clean the jack?
If so how?
I already tried blowing air into it
If all else doesn't work I have to take it to a sprint store right?
Since I don't have insurance how much will it cost me?

It would cost 35 at a store. It's a pretty routine repair, the headphone jack is part of an assembly with the vibrator module, so long as they have harvested parts in stock.
I doubt cleaning will do much good, if you look in there and there's nothing there, that's all there is to clean.

Thanks
Well time to drop $35

Headphone Jack stopped working

Somehow my headphones screwed up the headphone Jack. I took off the black tape on the back and noticed that if I push and hold the metal L shaped thing down it will work. Is there any way to fix/replace this?

In the same boat buddy. I think I read somewhere that if you take a cue tip and rip off some of the padding so it can fit with a little padding still stuck to it, you can clean it out a bit and then wet the tip with a bit of rubbing alcohol to get a better cleaning out of it. It may help or you could be like me and have hardware failure and need to take it in.
Hmm thanks glad to know its not just me. Do you have a link to that thread? What happened to you?

Phone won't enter usb mode

For whatever reason, my phone stopped recognizing that it is connected to a computer via USB (nothing in the notification pull down menu to start usb mode etc). I was on slim rom, I tried switching to an old wild by night rom and it still has the same problem. Clearly it's not the rom, so I'm pretty confused. Trying to mount in CWM doesn't work either, and odin mode is not recognized on the pc. Charging via usb works.
Either your wire is busted or the solder joints on your port are cracked. Both are easy to repair.

Hrmm.. gotta wait till I get home to test with a different wire. How does one tell if solder joints on the port are cracked?
Visually inspect them. Its also a dead giveaway if no wire will work and nothing else is wrong with the phone.

I did a little more forum digging and found this old thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1344882
Sounds like exactly what happened with my phone (weird car mode that I've never seen before popping up; charges but doesnt connect to usb). Looks like you're right about the usb port. Gonna have to see if I can debride the area somehow...
If you are not experienced with or comfortable doing precision soldering, hit me up. Also shine a flashlight into the port and see if the pins are still in place. Bent pins can cause crazy issues.

Soldering is out of my cabilities, mostly because I don't own a soldering device. I do have access to dental equipment though, so I took a look using some 2.5x mag loupes with a light and I saw some some dust and white corrosion. I used a plastic periodontal probe to scrape out the corrosion, small brush to dust the port, and air syringe to blow it all out. Wamo bamo, it's working again.. hopefully it stays working.
Sweet deal man! Glad you got it all back to normal.

Bleh it was shortlived, or at the very least -- finicky. Seems like I may need to replace the port. Do you have instructions for doing that?

Not instructions, but it does require the ability to take the device apart and some fine soldering skills. Not really easy to make instructions for that. It takes a lot of skill to do it.

Weird issue with headphone jack

So I just tried to use my headphones with the headphone jack. I tried two different pairs, one with an inline mic and one without. Both of them work, they just feel like they will slide out of the jack with no effort, and actually do come out with a slight tug on the cord.
Is this an issue or is it normal? If its an issue, I just got the phone today, would this be covered under a warranty of some sort? (Its the blue variant)

Edit.
Misread ok if you feel they are to lose then take it back. If you have to tug on them they should be fine. I would guess they would have to be kinda easy to pull out so not to cause damage to the connector

Normal. The One headphone jack doesn't have the "grip" that a lot of other phones have. My friend said the same thing, he thought his was defective.

Honestly, I have not noticed mine being any more loose than any other devices I use

I called and spoke with HTC and the rep recommended that I take it back since the phone is only 5 days old. Walked into Best Buy, explained what happened, 30 minutes later, I'm on my way with a properly functioning One.
