Desire Z screen not turning on, but still taking input - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Recently, I'm been having problems with my phone in that the screen wasn't turning on. All I had to do was press the power b utton and re-awaken the screen, but now I can't. The odd part is that I can press on the screen and hear/feel the icons and apps being pressed. Any ideas?

more than likely the lcd has gone bad or the main flex cable

Well whatever it was, a good hard smack on the screen fixed it. (It pissed me off.)

How much would it cost to replace either of those parts?
Sent from my Desire Z using xda app-developers app

google it, ebay seems to have lcds ~20$ and flex ~35$
if wacking it fixes it then it could just be a loose connection and no parts needed, maybe open it up and check

Seeing as how my screen working is sporadic, could you be the best person ever and link me to a guide for tearing my phone apart?
Sent from my Desire Z using xda app-developers app

well I'm not the best person ever so I'm going to just suggest using google or youtube, just search for htc g1 dissasembly or something to that extent

Physical keyboard issue in CM7?

So I dont know if any have you come across this issue, but when using the physical keyboard some apps get launched when pressing certain keys. For instance if I am typing a text message.... and I press "e" key... the E-Mail setup app gets launched.... really annoying
any thoughts?
Do you have the desire or vision?

Its a Quick Launch issue caused by a stuck search key; either press the seach key first or go into Settings/Applications/Quick Launch and disable all the launchers there

Random reboot loop

My desire keeps rebooting randomly, I think it's overheating but it really doesn't get very warm... What can be the cause of this?

Is your Desire by any chance a PVT1? You might have some motherboard problems.
It is. Anything I can do about it?
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda app-developers app
PVT1 models are known to have motherboard problems. The motherboard overheats, and it shuts down as a safety precaution. You need to change your motherboard, either by warranty, by going to a service, or by buying one online and changing it yourself.
I see. Thanks. It's time to buy a new phone anyways
