Need help with a Gingerbread rom - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hey guys, when i started using the epic touch which was pretty recent, I jumped straight in to the 4.x toms. Currently on blu kuban. Now I really want to go to the best possible gingerbread rom for battery life. I have no idea which rom would have the best battery but I am extremely frustrated with my battery drain on ICS. Can anyone please give me their opinions from what they remember from the gingerbread days or if there is any other way i can drastically improve battery life on ics either with a different rom or kernel? Thanks.

On GB the popular roms I remember were Caulk's and Blazer but I had a stock rooted EL29 setup that I stripped down myself and used QQ Launcher on and really enjoyed for a while. Honestly though battery life is really about the same for me on ICS and GB. I'm currently running agats rom but wicked sensations, aokp, and black rom are all pretty similar in battery life. I'm also now undervolted by -.50 and that has helped even more.
Honestly though its really just a matter of managing your phone and knowing what is running and burning up battery in the background. Use dark themed apps, turn off wifi and 4g when not in use etc.. I also use data enabler widget and turn off data at night now then just toggle back on when i wake up. Last night I dropped 2% in 6 hours.

thanks man, so a noob question now. I never undervolted. I just switched to Universe v2.0 rom which now uses kuban kernel as well. what does undervolting do and how can I help?

Undervolting is supplying less mV to your CPUs. In terms you can extend you battery life as the phone can operate at the same speed using less voltage. (Less power used, more battery available)
With that said, don't under volt too much usually -25mV to -50mV is optimal if you go any less you run into the issue of nit having enough voltage and your phone could freeze or crash. Both agat's and kuban kernels offer undervolting and under clocking.
Just a FYI I'm using sleshepic's the governors kernel. No undervolting, just have it set to CFQ and Pegasusq at 1000 Max and 200 min and I've been getting around 11 - 12 hrs with moderate use.

thanks man, so how can i undervolt it to -50mV? is there an app i can use? i have the voltage control lite. From what I remember I think this tweak could be done on the blu kuban rom without any apps but not on this universe 2.0 rom.

Yes voltage control on kuban kernel allows you to under volt. If you click on each step(slide the voltage to the left) you can under volt it. Then apply settings and your good to go. PM me or reply here is you have any more questions.

Voltage and governor control is now built into Kuban ROM. It's all in extweaks in the system menu. You may want to try it out. You will be losing a lot going back to gingerbread. I actually get better battery life on Kuban than I ever did on GB. And I haven't even messed with under volting. I do recommend the Wheatley and Skywalker governors for the perfect balance of performance and efficiency.

Kuban has been good for me as well.. I don't under volt at all.. To unstable on my phone.. I get 4 hours screen on(heavy use) and good deep sleep with the Kuban kernel(1100-200), placebo tweaks, odexed a few apps, and a modified framework to make it more zippy without compromising battery

most popular gingerbread roms are calkulin 3.0 and blazer 4.1 but im hearing blu kuban ics has good battery life too huh?

Battery Kernel

I just rooted my DInc today and I heard about a kernel that ups the battery life. Is there such a thing, and if so, can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance
Most kernels try to improve battery life. Are you running a sense rom or aosp rom?
If you're talking about Savage kernel, be careful... that thing uses an SBC (super battery charging) mod that can potentially harm your device in the long run. I personally am using VirusROM 1.5.1 with its stock kernel and have seen better battery life than SBC, but that's just me.
Sent from my HTC Incredible running VirusROM 1.5.1.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848453
With this kernel my battery quite literally does not go down when it's sleeping (screen off), unless I'm in an area with bad reception. Screen on is also somewhat better than stock - it's hard to improve screen on at all, since that uses the CPU pretty aggressively. However, it does use improved scaling to always try and minimize the CPU load while keeping performance up. All that + HAVS (Hybrid Adaptive Voltage Scaling, which lowers the amount of power the CPU is drawing) = win battery life

The superior battery charging kernals will not harm your device, but instead may shorten the life of your battery over time. But at 15 dollars a battery, some believe it to a negligible side effect. Its all personal preference, really.

How exactly do I go about installing the kernel? Sorry for such a n00b question, but I only did this today.

If you're sticking with the stock ROM then search for a Sense based kernel, then read the OP and associated reviews in the comments following to learn how to install it, current features (what works and what doesn't) and any other possible info you'd need.
If you're planning on installing a different ROM, those already have kernels baked in, so give that a shot first and then try other kernels if you feel the need.
DInc/XDA App
I've had EXCELLENT results with the kernel from Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo RLS5 (NOT 5.2)
I forgot which one it was though... D: I think it was the ziggy 12/19...?
Kernels for Battery
I use the Newest Ziggy Kernel (BFS) with SetCPU set at conservative.
=Great Battery life !!
This kernel also enables other options like SmartASS and Performance, but conservative is a winner for battery life.

New to Evo 4g From Epic 4g- Battery Life Stinks - WHy is Epic 4g so differenT?

I've been reading around the forums in different threads and Man there is a lot to catch up on since I've always been an Epic 4g owner and not an Evo 4g owner. I've found a few threads about battery life and so far have installed 4 roms to test briefly battery life and none are giving me the same as my epic or close to it which was 0-2% drop an hour when Idle.(Sitting on my desk on 3g or wifi) Gone through cm7, Miui(Currently on) and 2 of the new sense 3.0-3.5 roms (Energy and nocturnal)
Kernel currently Tiamat 3.3.7 and I've tried the latest one 4.0.1 or something.
So far i've found the Vipermod kernel undervolt tweak, V6supercharger Option 7 (used before), 3g turbo charge script, and also applying gps fix from Miui thread.
Any suggestions on other tweaks I should flash ? Is myns tweak out dated or needed from this thread? http://www.xda-developers.com/android/tweaks-for-superb-battery-life-in-evo/
I always freeze DRM but with the epic I found other processes starting with SNS to freeze, are these not on the Evo4g? or are they called something different? Also I don't see a System Update process that I used to see on the Epic and would freeze.
Calibrated method I use is charging to 100 percent and just using the Battery Calibrate app in the market. Its the first one that comes up when you search.
Any rom suggestions that I should flash to get better battery life? I need to use my phone for pleasure and work so everything needs to work except 4g and video recoding 720p. I need everything else operational.
Also any suggestions on other battery saving techniques would be greatly appreciated. I've got plenty experience with the Epic 4g but the evo 4g is so old school i feel like this device loves to eat battery way more than the epic when being used and when not being used.
FYI i have a moderate to heavy user.
EDIT: for those who could gain from this post, I'm going to be following Carhaulers recommended settings. Hopefully i get better battery life and everything runs smooth.
GB-evo-deck 1.3d or MIUI's latest creation
Tiamat v3.3.7-SBC aka the "LEE" kernel
Under Clocked @ 128/499MHz <<128/499MHz IS the new 245/998MHz>>
Under Volted @ -100mV total w/ IncrediControl
Results SO far and a Sense Question.
So as an answer to my own Question i've added the following items in my signature for my Evo 4g and I have no idea how this phone is operating so well at 128 HZ - 499HZ but wow its working smoothly. Battery is pretty sweet also. Still calibrating, drained it completely today and am charging right now to full with it powered off. Only time will tell.
I've had the phone off the charger for roughly 20 hours with no use for 50 percent of the time and the other 50 percent I was playing pandora, browsing xda/engadget, and playing 30-minutes to an hour of games. Not bad so far. Its better than it was before. Now this goes to saying i am uving like a mofo and underclocking.
New Question for those who read this, Is there a Sense Rom that will give equal if not better battery than what i'm seeing so far? and does COD tweaks work with sense roms?
MikG 2.61 rom works great and has great battery. Might want to try out Chopsuey 9.2.7 kernel with it as well.

My daily driver right now: MikG 3.0 beta found here. Pair it with latest ChopSuey kernel, and you're good to go.
C-o-D tweaks do work with Sense ROMs, just look at the top for adjusted values for Sense
Well im not so sure about this but.
Isnt the epic still on froyo?
Cause in my experience all the old froyo roms for the evo gave me way better battery life than the gingerbread roms.
I could get like 24-30 hours on myns warmtwopointtwo rom. Which is froyo. I only get anywhere from 12-15 hours on all the new gb roms.
Just my 2 cents

The Epic's up to Gingerbread now, as of early November (finally). Froyo ROMs did get excellent battery life... I did like Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo, paired with a Netarchy SBC kernel... An incredible combination. I can still match that on Gingerbread, but Warm was awesome.

Currently have Energy Rom installed with Latest Chop Suey experimental and the COD Tweaks IO "Deadline" option is not available, i only see bfq and noop. Which do I choose? and Also I don't see smartass v2 or smartass in daemon control? Am I missing something?

I have had exceptional battery life using BEASTMod.
Just my opinion
they are all good imo, im currently using gingersnap rom, has the faux kernel and i get over 20 hours of some what heavy use, and so it went with juggernaut, beast mod, and bombardier.
but the faux kernel has proved to be smoother and more efficient imo, perhaps slightly better battery.
hope i could help
I like Juggernaut + Bullet.
I am trying to make the most of my battery by:
-underclocking to 384-16xx
-turning on Battery Saver
-running Juice Defender
Anyone know how to undervolt on Bullet?
I am a heavy battery user. I use my phone all day constantly on Netflix (through Wifi) and listening to music with web surfing. I get about 16 hours on it everyday and come home with 4%-30%. It is very odd on why my battery percentage is such a big range. Screen is on like half the day. I really can not complain about this battery.
I am trying to figure out the best setting on tuner pro for dewizzed 2.0. I am only getting like 6 to 8 hours on my phone. When I've seen others get close to 24 with light to moderate use. The rom is Dewizzed 2.0, and I know the some people have the same rom while using tuner pro. I would ask the dev in the devolpment section, but I don't have permissions to do so. Also Hello everyone in xda. I am a long time visitor since the G1 days. I made this account a long time ago, but recently got tired of touchwiz, and decided to give it the boot lol.

I am running Dewizzed 2.0 with Synergy kernel and using System Tuner Pro, 1.62max 384min, 384max and 192min with screen off and am not UV because Synergy is already UV. Getting well over 21 hours of use, light to moderate usage,
Sounds like you have a app that is using a lot of battery.

I noticed a bit of lag when I first flashed Beast Mod w/Synergy. Try this before you flash, it worked for me and my phone is buttery smooth. Boot into recovery wipe cache 3 times, wipe dalvik 3 times. Then go into advanced, then mounts and storage. Format system. Flash synergy, then fix permissions. Reboot, enjoy. Also Im running zepplinrox's V6 supercharger script. That helps out with smoothness too!

[Q] CPU/Governor/IO settings to get best battery life

I have a T-mo SG3 currently running AOSP LIquid smooth rom/Lean Kernal v1.9. I consider myself a very light user, light texting light internet use during the day and want to get the most out of my battery. What governor is the best to use, where should I have my cpu/voltage settings, etc. Is the Lean kernal the best for this rom? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
im running CM10 and my setting are NOOP and ONDEMAND, last me around 20hrs with display on time around 4hrs some.

I am on LiquidSmooth and using Interactive/Deadline and am getting great life. I am using Lean Kernel 1.6. I've tried 1.7,1.8 both regular and exp versions and had problems with the cores not shutting down as they should on both. An SODs on 1.8 almost daily. I've already downloaded 1.9exp and am going to flash it but i have to keep deleting all these Update threads. jk.
Also check out the second post in my battery thread. Has a huge portion about Governors and Schedulers explained.

Kernels to use with All Star Rom

Just made the switch from Jedi Knight 5 to All Star Rom 4 for the massive increase in features and customizations (minus the Jedi themes which I liked and the wifi calling that I rarely used). I love it so far...
The only issue I have is battery life - e.g. last night my battery ran down 13% (usually only ran down 3% with JK5) while sleeping with it underclocked to a maximum of 1Ghz.
I've read good things about the KKO kernel - has anyone tried this with any success with All Star Rom?
Any other hints/suggestions so that I can get a full day out of this thing with moderate use and not have it run like it was made in 2007? (Powersaving mode in ROM control under AOKP isn't cutting it- quite laggy).
Thanks in advance!
Because I am one of the devs behind the ROM, I can say that the h0tcakez kernel goes great with the ROM. To get batter battery life, enable CPU Sleeper and your phone shouldn't lose as much battery life overnight. Also, I am using ondemand governor with noop I/O.
