No 3G data on my new SGS3 - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

So I got a new SGS3 and it works fine, except when I am in 3G. When I am in 3G I can receive and place calls but no data. Att support was no help, so I figured I would check here. As far as I can tell it is either a APN, Gateway, or Account settings issue (the later being something I can not do anything about). I say this because my n1 gets signal fine here, and it seems to run fine, so long as it is 4g.
Any ideas? Also, does the SGS3 have EDGE support?

Bump: And also I tried to set an old APN but that didn't help.

Have you rooted and flashed it or are you stock? If you are just stock...there is nothing this forum can do to help really.

I have not rooted or anything, I have tried some APNs but I was hoping other people might help me out with something else to try. I don't really buy the whole " if you are stock... there is nothing that can be done" What if I was trying to get help with a stock developer build of my n1 (which I have previously) or are you asserting that without rooting I will not be able to fiddle with the modem settings?

What I'm saying is the phone comes ready out of the box. Unless you have changed something then it is a network problem. You will have to take it up with AT&T.

U can only do so much stock....and thats not alot! Root and use stock rom so u will have root access to see whats what...and to be able to control what u do or dont want ur data to do

Thank you guys for trying to help but I know all this. I am just in the period of time I can take it back and I don't want to risk that by bricking it while monkeying around.

I (Maybe) have isolated the problem, they said that I was set up for LTE and there are some issues with proper propagation of properties. Anyway problem "May" only effect people on ATT with Samsung S3s bought at BestBuy locations and the upgrade includes unlimited data. Still working will update tonight....
BUMP!

Brand New Phone, No Working LTE

'm gonna try and make a long story short. Yesterday I purchased A S3 from ATT..Everything was working fine right out of the box no problems, lte and everything..Well earlier today I rooted my phone and everything seemed to be fine, I even flashed a rom and that seemed to be running fine also, but I noticed when I flashed the rom on the tool bar where it shows what data your running other than Wifi, it said H, don't know what that would be but I know it wasen't lte....So I thought maybe something was wrong with my phone, so I took it to the att store and showed them I wasen't getting 4glte..So they looked on the compyter and everything looked right, then they took it to the back where the service center was and flashed it back to factory....AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW??? It worked...I got 4glte right away..It said it right on the toolbar..I was so happy its working again like it should be...So I get home and root the phone again..everything went fine with the root, well it seemed like it BUT WHAT DO YOU KNOW...YOU GUESSED IT..NO 4gLTE...WHAT is going on here...and this was just off a fresh root no roms or anything...So I'm stuck I don't know what to do or if anyone else has expierienced this or knows a fix...I really want to keep my phone rooted so I can run roms and programs like Titanium Backup
So if anyone knows and can help I'd really appriciate it...thanks for your help and time...
I'm keeping my fingers crossed
As you can see from the picture you can see 4g on the status bar, but check out the speeds...and I'm in a great spot for lte..so something is wrong
Its kind of normal that lte dont work on some roms, you could just stay stock and it will all work, Im not sure why root would kill your lte, how are you rooting?

1st wrong thread, this has nothing to do with development, 2nd if ur getting 4g lte issues then speak to the company u got it from, because not alot of places can support lte atm its like a transition thats happenning 3rd what i can suggest you do is grab a tool like odin, and odin back to stock rom and then use snapdragon tool by mskip its the 2nd or 3rd from this forum up, and go from there and that should help u further on in getting back to normal , and if you're flashing jelly bean roms or what not, you have lte still but it'll show as 4g or what not, which rom have you flashed btw.

You need to check your APN settings and make sure you're using the proper LTE APNs for your carrier and make sure that LTE is available in your area 100%.
Also you need to enable LTE on the mobile connections screen within whatever ROM you flash.

but he's saying he's flashing a rom and losing LTE, but apn most the times stick, thats why i was wondering which rom was it, because then we can let them know to make sure their apn sticks make its easier for anyone else that flashes.
I know first hand wali and his partner in crime have stellar ROMs flash one of those guarantee you won't be disappointed

It could also be that he has lte but the icons says 4G for lte I think it's the case for some roms. Because the phone companies made us believe that hsdpa+ was 4G when in fact it's more like 3.7G more or less. What I'm trying to say is did you do a speed test to make sure?
4G might just be lte after all.

I know when on blackjelly it only shows 4 I believe but the speed test shows lte speeds.

lets blame the companies for skrewing everything up with toggles.
run a speed test and look at more info and see what it shows, also check your apn settings via settings/more settings and mobile network then access point names and then take a screenshot if possible by holding power + home button and post it up, because if u should have LTE service ur apns must be LTE otherwise you will be defaulted to regular apn which might throttle you like whoa well i know our ics doesn't do that but not that i hate anyone's ics, Nun, Ariel and Kyan all have done a good job in their ics's.
I don't know if this helps but go to settings and then about, then status and check network, most likely says UMTS or well it does for me on ALL 4.1.1 rom's. But, go to mobile networks and try to connect to another provider than yours, then when it says it cannot connect, re-connect to your own and I bet you will get HS+. Only problem is, if you toggle on wifi or reboot, you will have to do this all over again to retain the higher network connection.
I have not been able to come up with a solution yet and do not know if it is a 747m problem only or if it effects 747 as well.

[Q] GS3 TMO: CM10 JB ROM + wifi calling?

Hey guys, i have a few questions
i have a tmobile gs3 and am passionately waiting for the JB OTA update. Untill then however, i would love to use CM10 JB ROM. THe only problem is that it doesnt have the tmobile wifi "built-in" app for that. So does anyone know a way for that to happen? (PM me if you know a way).
Also, currently im am using ICS and it seems like i need at least one bar of cellular coverage for wifi to work. If i am not registering a cellular network, my wifi will not work. I noticed this pretty recently and was wondering if it is like that normally. Are there apps or fixes that can allow you to use wifi if you are not registering cellular network at all (kinda like an airplane mode)?
Thanks alot
I will donate to developers if they can help me out
Don't want to be one of those people, but there are a lot of threads on it. But, pretty much, unless it has changed recently, there isn't a wifi-calling for any CM stuff yet and not sure if there will be. Some people were working on a project. There are other roms out there that do have working wifi calling though, might want to take a look at those.
Also, you don't need cell signal for the wifi calling to work.

What do u mean a WiFi built in app? Also have u tried any new radios for cell coverage? And WiFi does not need any cellular service at all

thanks for quick reply guys.
i have had cm10 jb on my gs3 and then i decided that i needed tmobile wifi calling. so once i downloaded stock ics from samsung and installed it, my wifi calling only works when i am registering the cellular network. If i dont have any bars (and wifi is connected) it won't call at all. wjat could be the fix for this?

Well if u flashed the stock ROM with Odin like u said let it boot up then go into stock recovery or if u have a custom recovery wipe data and caches. To get in it is the same way either way. Vol up, home, and power at same time
I just moved to CM10 a few minutes ago and personally, I don't know how I would ever go back to anything less than this. Why worry about WiFi calling when there are plenty of VoIP alternatives that use Google Voice?

can i somehow set it up so that when my tmobile number is unavailable, it redirects it to google voice? But only when my number is unavailable (as in i wouldn't want to set the redirect every time i am planning to go off service). The thing is that i go to school and i see patients all day long, and in some places i have reception and in some i dont. its very irregular and unpredictable. so if i could set it up in the way that "if unavailable, redirect to google voice" type of thing, i would be a happy camper.
Oh and also, even my google voice does not work if i am not registering a cellular network just a bit. (help with this too?)
thanks guys

im not sure what i did, but i know that i did not specifically erase any data. it just seems that wifi calling is an integral part of the firmware that any "random" data on the phone should no phase it. hmm...
Can someone confirm that CM10 JB has a option in the Phone App menu to forward a call when unreachable? I donw want to go thru the hassle of installing it if it doesnt have that option.
thanks alot guys

There should be a setting for phone forwarding just like any other OS/phone. Just change it to your GV number and should be GTG.

no hotspot app

Hi guys I got a weird problem I have 2 galaxy note ii's sph l900 in installed stock rooted deodex mc2 posted by crawrj on both now one has hotspotin settings one doesnt have it anyone know y? Also anyone know where to find the zip to fix sdcard to revert from aosp back to tw?
I not clear on what you're asking. I'm running a doexidiezed stock MC2 rom. I see there is a Hotstop toggle in the settings for Wireless and Network. Since I don't subscribe to Sprint's hotspot service, I don't know if it works or not. I use Trev E Mod's WiFi tether instead.
Don't know about the zip file you seek.

If you used the same download to flash both phones I would just reflash the one without hotspot. If you used different downloads then I would redownload then reflash. Phones can be very individualistic and quirky. What doesn't take in one flash will take in another and what works on one phone won't always on another. Just ask any of the Devs putting out ROMs
As to the zip you are looking for I have a copy and you can download it here.
so you have two different phones. I assume both on MetroPCS. Are they both SPH-L900 (the sprint GN2 variant)? Did you have the exact same rom on both? You're leaving a lot of out, and we're having to guess on the info that's needed to make a good suggestion.
My initial though, is the rom suppose to have the hotspot? It's possible it was removed.
And even if was there, I have no idea if it would work. one, I don't know if Metro offers hotspot service. two, I'm not sure where the hotspot would try to go--metro or sprint.

The phones r both exact ssme sprint galaxy note ii sph l900 both on metropcs I download the rom to an sdcard put it in one phone flashed the rom removed the sdcard put it in the other phone and flashed it I have redownload the rim seversl times and flashed it to both phone several times same results everytime. I don't beleave it was removed from rom cause its on one phone but not the other I have wiped everything on both phones before flashing the rom several times this makes no sense to me also reguaedless of be on metro the hotspot app will not go to sprint it will go to metro or where your internet is programmed to (m.I.p. and ppp) ofcouse u have to unlock the hotspot in services.jar for it to work but that's not a problem I have done this many times and flashed hundreds of phones. I honestly am not even interested in the hotspot working just wana know y its on one phone and gone on another
well, that's definitely a quirky situation. Not a clue. I assume it was there with the previous ROM? You may have to format the phone, not just wipe the divack, cache and system. Something from the previous ROM and the new ROM may not be playing nice and somehow is still around despite the wipes you've been doing. Although, I don't think this is the likely scenario, it does occur here and there.
I'm not familiar with all the things involved with taking a phone to a different carrier. I know has more work than just a new ROM.

Im not sure wat is was but I downgraded to jc then back to mc2 and now its there. Changing carriers takes so settings chages in the nam programming for your mdn, min, mcc, mnc, sid also m.i.p. and ppp for internet and changing the prl. The mms is where people have trouble at for the most part just changing prl will give u talk and txt ( after dealing with getting your meid into the carriers inventory )

sounds like something didn't get removed when you went from whatever to MC2. At least you found a solution.
I didn't think switching carriers on the phone was the most difficult thing to do. I just knew there was more than just changing ROMs. Since I never looked into switching carriers seriously, what I learned about was more casual. I just know it's more difficult with Sprint having the built in SIM cards compared to other phones that do not.

Actual the Sim being built in makes no difference sprint is the easiest to do Verizon locks the bootloader sprint dont and sprint always uses Samsungs default 16 digit password as for the Sim it doesnt matter u dont use it anyway only the 3g modem u cant get lte with different carriers and yes more to it then a ROM actual I stay on stock ROM most the time but changeing carrier isnt very hard

[Q] Help with Verizon SCH-I535 Phone to use on T-mobile

Hey everyone and thanks for taking the time to read this,
So the story goes as so: After doing some research couple months ago about the capability of the Verizon Galaxy S3 to work on T-mobile, i purchased it, and got it to successfully work on T-mobile(texts, calls, wi-fi). The problem is, i just recently upgraded to include a data plan, and i cannot access the internet, despite taking my phone to my cell phone dealer and contacting T-mobile.T-mobile even sent me a guide to do a mastery reset to factory in hopes to solve this problem, only to tell me afterwards that the phone version SCH-I535 is a "verizon locked-software" and i won't be able to set up an APN to work on the T-mobile network. This was all due to the fact that i was not able to set up a APN for T-mobile, and every time i tried to access it through setting, it brought me to a blank black page with the only option of "Reset to Default". After reading other forums and talking with some people, many have suggested i take this issue to XDA to find a solution.
So, here i am.....Does anyone know if it is possible for me to break/root/ or whatever it is called so i can successfully access the t-mobile network on my phone? Preferably an easier guide since i am sort of a newbie at this sort of stuff.
Thanks again for reading.
Before your Contract change, you were able to receive and make calls successfully with T-Mo Sim right ? Even now you can make calls too correct ? The reason I am asking this is to be able to check if you are really unlocked off of VZW. If you are not unlocked, then that would be the first step.
You are right, the APNs do drive Data Connection. If the stock firmware does not allow you to change APNs then you will have to root. Please post a screen of your Settings > About phone that shows your Rom Version, Baseband and Kernel.

Hey Perseus, thanks a lot for taking the time to reply. I bought the phone in the summer off someone who had verizon. I have always had T-mobile, and considering this phone is GSM, i decided to buy it because it would probably work for T-mobile. I had the phone unlocked, and i am currently using it to make calls, texts, and even use wi-fi with no problem. The only problem at this time is that i recently added a data plan which i cannot currently use. Here is a screen shot of what you have requested.
Thanks again
First try
Settings > More > Mobile Networks > Preferred Network Type.See what it is set to. Change it to LTE/GSM/WCDMA if needed. See the other option System Select as well.
Also separately try the following.
Hit ##DATA# in the Dialer. In the subsequent Menu choose EDIT > OTHERS > LTE APN
If all fails, please Root the phone and then try. The way you go about is
1. Flash a Custom Recovery via Odin. Make sure the version of Custom recovery is for your model D2VZW not D2TMO.
2. Flash a SuperSU zip file via Recovery and then hit fix permissions in the recovery.
Try the APN Settings after that. IF you can actually access them, then set them according to this link.
If all the above fails, I'd suggest a custom Rom for d2VZW.
You will never get 4g trust me I had one... you will just get the E

Ok, so i tried to changed it to LTE and i got no service at all, so i switched it back to Global. I also tried the dialer thing several times, and got the " connection problem or invalid MMI code"
So i guess i am going to have to root the phone? Does anyone know a good video tutorial or written tutorial on how to safely do this? Also, what exactly is rooting?

You have to enable the mmi codes to use them. Anyway as stated above your reply you will never get 3g or 4g just edge (seen it personally) which is pretty darn slow.. Not worth it if you ask me and be paying for data.. If you still want to root it and keep trying to add sons check the Verizon forums.. They could probably help you a lot more than on this side of the forums

Guys, he is not getting ANY data signal at all. His problem isn't getting the specific icon but being not able to change APNs.
@HackThisThing, you are better off following up on Verizon Device forum. That forum does have a video tutorial for Rooting. Here's forum link.
I don't think you will be able to change APNs without rooting. I checked with a buddy of mine who has the same device as you.
Here's a good answer to What is Rooting ?
Even if you CAN fix it, why bother if you can only get 2G? I'd sell it or trade it for a phone that's more compatible with T-Mobile 's network instead of paying for data and only getting dial-up speeds. I get that solving problems is fun, but OP do you want to live with only 2G?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk
I don't agree with that assessment. Just like the T999L phone, this device will work on LTE Bands just fine. OP just needs to wait for LTE to be rolled out in their area. There's a coverage map and roll out schedule on T-Mo website and the T-Mo News blog.
It's worth a look, but could still leave them with patchy coverage. If it's going to be a while, why wait when it's not hard to just trade the phone? I guess I don't see a reason why hold out on getting a Verizon phone to work when you could just get one that works now with little to no monetary loss. It's just a Verizon S3, not really something worth "waiting" for when they could get the same thing but more functional on their network of choice.
They made an honest mistake and waiting might give them "good enough" service - but other than that they're stuck with dial up speed only and risk bricking a phone they could just trade or sell now.
Maybe I'm just impatient and risk averse.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk
OP has already purchased this VZW version.

I have no idea what is causing this issue, I'm not sure if my picture messages get sent...
How can I fix this or what ROM(s) would be better for me to have? I pretty much have no other issue that I can think of than this that I am having with this ROM.
Thank you for any and all help.
Is data enabled on your phone?
Yes, but I am usually connected to WiFi and I keep the 2g/edge data on usually. I have 3g/4g on if I'm using navigation.
I don't think I've had this problem before, but I only had this phone for a few months. Got it off eBay.
Not what to suggest. If it worked before and not now, maybe your carrier changed some settings?
Does this problem occur when running a stock ROM?
My sister-in-law had this problem. She doesn't have a data plan but does have sms and mms. Her carrier told her to enable data in order to get pictures.
I'm not sure, it's not something I noticed until recently.
Wow turn the WiFi off worked... That kinda sucks. Are there ways around this? My other phones didn't need me to do this, my other phones included g1, g2, and the s ii.
What's a good ROM to switch to that might not have this happening? Is there an app for this, radio, etc.?
Lastly where can I get the stock Roms that won't brick me lol?
Thank you for the help.

Sounds like a rom thing, you shouldn't have to disabled wifi for MMS. You can try another MMS app or switch to another rom or see if there is an update to it. No Roms will brick you in this section of the forum
