I Messed Up my HTC Desire Z with S-off - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Help, I think I messed up my phone (HTC Desire Z). I tried 2 root my phone. But after I s-off my phone I tried to reboot it and... It woudn't work :c. Can anyone help me? I searched for it but I Didn't find anything what can bring my phone back up. Please Help me someone.

well after the downgrade process you would be @ froyo, I'm sure a diffrent os then you were using, this would have changed you radio/spl and rom at the same time so there would be a functional os. after obtaining s-off and a eng hboot then you in a sence wiped your phone of an os, therefore it will not boot.
one of the things in the guide you followed (assuming you followed a proper guide and did things correctly) was to install a custom recovery. boot into recovery and flash rom of choice... now your phone works

Thank you so mush for your replay. But I don't know what you really mean. I did follow a guide @the unlocker. And I did every step correctly. But can you maybe give me a guide what I need to do? I'm just a android noob :c. What to I need 2 do exactly?

not sure what the unlockr uses for root, if you don't have an eng hboot then you may not have fastboot access. just boot into bootloader and check
first some lines should say either eng soff or ship soff, if it is ship soff I suggest following a different guide to root as you will have many headaches without an engienering spl
also the search function works quite well in both xda and google, just look for terms like adb for dummies, or fastboot commands. if you are having issues just report back with your findings

Thank you for you replay. It says soff. But the problem is that I can't use my phone anymore with adb. And I can't get in to my phone anymore. I stuck @the HTC startscreen and it woudn't continue .c My phone is bricked but I cant recover it anymore :c

why can't you use adb or fastboot? did you try? and does it say eng soff or ship soff on your bootloader screen?

If I Try to use ABD It say's Device is offline. Or Cant connect 2 device. Ant It says 'ENG S-OFF' and when I try to Recovery there happends nothing, There is just that a triangle with a. ;C i'm so desperate.

then your rooting method did not get you a custom recovery, you will be best of going to irc freenode #g2root, here you will get real time help. being you have an eng spl there is a good chance things can be fixed. just make sure you jump the gun and try to flash a pc10img.zip from hboot, if you flash the wrong one you will be stuck for good, so be double careful how you proceed from here
just google search irc freenode, and sign into #g2root and create a temp name, if no one is there to help right away just stick around a bit and I'm sure some one will show... be patient

Can you post the complete information you have about your hboot? You can't be S-Off after you updated to the official Gingerbread file from HTC... unless you did something else afterwards.

The phone is not mine, so i don't know the exact things that were done on the phone but here is some info.
My friend had 2.3.5 gingebread with sense 3.0 and downgraded to 2.3.3 with sense 2.1 .He used the advanced ace hack tool for all this.it said root , s-off and then rebooted and then it stayed at the htc logo from then.
Reboot the phone into recovery (battery pull, hold volume up + power). Then mount the sd card from CWM & copy a ROM over. Do a full wipe (data, cache, Dalvik) and install the ROM, you should be able to get it working again

That is why u are stuck...you are still S-ON...now you know that it is always better to check before doing something.
Anyway, you are not bricked, half bricked, soft bricked or anything bricked at all..you are just stuck.
You have two choices:
If you didn't factory reset the phone (that will erase the usb drivers from it) you can just plug the phone from the splash screen and run the hack kit to have the job done
Find a RUU for your phone, flash it and when the device is fully functional then re run the Hack Kit
Both will let you with a fully working phone. I would choose the second one just to make sure that everything is working...hope it helps.
i wasn't the one that used the tool so no drivers are installed on my computer...it was also factory reset.
Where can i find a RUU for the dhd?

The phone is already rooted and S-off
During the rooting process and gaining true radio soff you will have a custom recovery.
Did you follow the YouTube video to root then?
The only method you won't to use to root is with gfree
Either follow the xda wiki
Cyanogens wiki
Or straw metals PDF guide
For the most part anything else you do will cause you problems
Sent from my HTC Vision using Tapatalk 2
Yea, I followed the youtube video.
How can I roll it back to s-on?
i just quickly looked at the youtube video and it seems it was having you run gfree for the exploit which is good but doing it through terminal emulator not through adb. shouldnt be an issue doing this but im too lazy to go through the video and see if it was telling you all the right things, either way you need to check and see if gfree worked.
check THIS POST out, follow the steps at the bottom and see if gfree worked. if you have true radio s-off than flash one of the pc10img.zips through hboot or fastboot - fastboot is the preferred method as if there is an error it will tell it to you and you can choose not to reboot until it is fixed.
if you need further help feel free to ask
Just checked it.
But got one question
"~make nandroid in recovery"
How can I make a backup without recovery? :x
As long as it says secure flag zero you are safe to use the pc10img.zip
The nandroid is just so you can restore easy, instead just flash a new rom
But you may just want to flash the recovery through fastboot if you're not interested in changing radios etc, so long as you have an engineering SPL you can do this, if not flashing the pc10img.zip will give you one.

The phone is recognized in fastboot,
ADB does not recognize the phone.
I have been going through the forum, and websites for the last 4 hours.
Factory Reset reboots the phone and gives me a security warning.
Recovery does the same.
I also get the USB Not recognized error once the phone comes on. I have installed the HTC drivers, I have also installed HTC Sync and have removed it.
Am I stressing and overlooking something simple? Or, do I need to take this phone out back and lay it to rest.
Thank you in advance

I don't own this phone but how did this happen? I'm assuming your rooted and unlocked if you got s recovery and stuff. And if your recovery works.. just Mount your SD card and transfer a ROM from your PC and flash one.. make sure you flash the kernel too. That or run the ruu

I was given this phone because because it is stuck in the bootloop. Phones come with their own recovery, this isn't a custom recovery. I have tried to run ruus, the error I get is Main version is older. I have also downloaded official stock roms with no luck.
When I hit recovery, the phone reboots back to the bootloader, the recovery never comes up.

I currently have fastboot open, I am not entirely familiar with the Incredible 2, but normal case S-on = none rooted from my experience.
it was devunlocked then relocked i believe, from the error message i believe you are not flashing the right ruu, you are trying to flash an older one, you need the newest one, it was released a few months ago if i recall correctly and it was no big update but thats the one you need, search for it and try it it should work. if you are s on you cant flash a older ruu than whats already on it

[Q] G2 stuck in a boot loop please help..

Not sure what to do here...
I rooted this G2 earlier this evening and decided I wanted Cyanogenmod 7 as the rom.
I flashed Clockworkmod and installed the rom and then gapps directly after without rebooting, I'm not sure if that screwed it up. Anyway, now I'm in a boot loop.
I held volume down and power and can get in to that screen but it won't seem to let me select fastboot. I just noticed earlier when I plug it in with the power off it will open up Clockworkmod Recovery but after a few seconds the screen goes dark and whatever process began, stops.
When I do open it up with volume down + power it automatically starts up hboot after a few seconds and examines the froyo rom (PC10IMG) I still have on my SD card (at least I assume that's the one it's looking at) and it says the "main version is older / Update fail"
Also on the recovery screen (volume down + Power) it previous said s-off and now it's back to s-on. I think I can get access to adb btw.
I looked through the threads but I couldn't seem to find a definitive answer so I apologize in advance if I didn't scour them as well as I should have. Thanks for any help you can offer!

I used the adb method. I downgraded from GB to Froyo and then used the adb commands here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834228) to perm root. I had a stable root after that was all said and done it just went in to the boot loop after I installed Cyanogenmod and the Gapps.
After the boot loop began it DID re-run the pc10img.zip Or well, I should say, I, re-ran it
I downloaded the RUU but I didn't attempt it because I figured I've already gotten myself in enough trouble as it is.

Oh yeah, here's exactly what the bootloader screen says.

I removed the pc10img.zip from the SD card and NOW the bootloader allows me to actually make selections. I chose recovery and it went right in to Clockworkmod.
I tried to reflash Cyanogenmod 7 and it seemed to work but it is still in the boot loop. I think the reason it didn't go through correctly was because my phone is now s-on? when I originally rooted it and attempted to flash it, it was s-off. I am beginning to understand the scope of the problem here.
Would it be possible to download a t-mobile stock recovery rom image and flash that with clockworkmod? never tried that before.
Or, should I use the RUU, hope it works and start from scratch?
Or some other option that's beyond me.
Thanks for your help! This isn't my main phone and I was merely rooting it as a backup/experimental phone. I'd rather not have a paper weight but we shall see I guess. Thanks again!
I rooted my other G2 with the described method and it worked like a charm but for future reference is there any safer method available?
See the xda wiki for the proper root method, at this point you should try and flash an ruu through fastboot and start from scratch with the downgrade and root via gfree (xda wiki)

So just so I have it straight - root the phone first and then try and flash a stock rom through fast boot? Not sure if that's possible because I'm not sure if I have access to usb debug but I'll check and get back.
I downloaded the RUU from the htc website. Should I just follow the instructions included with that program?
Thanks for the advice!
Start with ruu, if it lets you return to stock great, then move on to the xda wiki, here it will link you to downgrade instructions and then go back to wiki to root and soff via gfree

Thank you! RUU worked like a charm! Live to root another day!
