I have the htc g2 and it's rooted, I was running elitemod gb for awhile until yesterday when all of a sudden my shut itself off while I was playing music. I power it back up and when I do it just says system update and it shuts itself up by itself before I can swipe the screen to unlock it. So I thought it wasn't a big deal, just do a complete wipe factory/cache/dalvik and still no dice. So I wiped again and this time reflashed the rom and still no dice. So I downloaded 3 new roms, elitemod ics, cm9 sense and that old stock rooted rom for this phone. And still no luck, everything goes as planned until it finally boots up and says system update and it shuts itself off. I wiped front to back and nothing works. I'm running latest clockwork recovery. So I looked for a superwipe zip or something, I found a thread that has the superwipe g2 and used that and flashed a stock rooted rom and others and still does the same thing. My last and final theory of a remedy is to use a different recovery, but I can't download 4xt recovery cuz I can't use my phone, so I tired the downloading the zip by itself on my wife's phone and on computer but clockwork says aborted. Can anyone give me the recovery zip or have any ideas on how to fix my current issue?
Download the image from 4ext website, then wipe and flash the image via fastboot
fastboot -w
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
(Of course rename the image to recovery.img)

Can you tell me a step by step on fastboot method? I have the recovery.img file on the root of my sd card but it doesn't do anything when I press fastboot?
correct, fastboot is a .exe program tha works similar to adb, which if you rooted you own phone then you should have some familiaity with it
I assume you have a pc, so simplest way is
rename and put the .img in the same folder on pc as fastboot.exe (probably platform-tools in the sdk)
now plug in phone and boot to fastboot mode
hold shift and right click in the folder with fastboot and image and choose open command here
now type fastboot devices, you should see your serial number
now type
fastboot -w
now type
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
now type
fastboot reboot bootloader
now reboot to recovery

Why does it have to be so complex? Why can't there be a flashable zip that you can flash in clockwork like many devices? Is there a flashable zip? That would be more simpler. I do have my pc, and it was a pain in the ass to root this phone since it was my first time downloading the android sdk and the other stuff that told me to download.

Ok I think I've actually broken my One X.
I was trying to put a default ROM back onto the system, I had my phone plugged into my PC, and "ran Android_Revolution_HD_Super_Wipe_One_X"
STUPIDLY I deleted a couple of files off the SD card in Windows Explorer, and now I cant get into recovery mode for ClockwordMod Recovery (as I'm assuming like an idiot I deleted it somehow)
Literally if I boot the phone it won't go past the HTC welcome screen.
I apologise profusely if this is already covered elsewhere - but I am an absolute noob and do not understand much of the jargon. I shouldn't have messed in the first place, I could cry
1. Fastboot and erase the cache, that will then allow you back into the recovery.
2. Fastboot the boot.img to your phone, as S-OFF won't allow the clockwork to flash it.
3. Don't panic. You can always recover the phone through Fastboot.
I should know, i was once in your position.
thanks for the reply,
I read about erasing the cache, but I have no idea how.
the guide just says type it into your pc
sorry again for being thick!
No problem.
Do you have fastboot open on your pc? if so.
Type : fastboot erase cache
Then download the Boot.img from ARHD, and follow the instructions.
Mike has included a .bat file that will automatically erase the cache and flash the boot image. I suggest going on to his forum and running the file.
I know I have downloaded it (I'm so lost) but the file in my downloads isn't something that opens a program?
Thanks a bunch!
It should have a .bat named install-boot, it shouldn't run a program, but open in CMD with options displayed on what to do next. Follow the instructions and you'll be fine.
ok I don't have a file called install-boot, just adb, fastboot and a few .dll files. both exe files flash cmd but it doesnt remain open.
any chance you can point me in the direction of this software as it would appear i have the wrong thing!

It seems like we need to get back to basics a bit. Are you familiar with MS-DOS? Those programs are not meant to be run from windows by clicking on them. They are run with command lines typed in a DOS type window that is opened when you type "cmd" into your search box in windows.

sorry, confusing fastboot and flashboot I think,
I'm being told that I'm missing adbwinapi.dll - looking into it
I'm no genius but I'm not usually this bad, just so worried - got the phone 12 hours ago, naturally feeling sick!
ok, followed the steps with flashboot (ran the cache delete and install-boot)
still not let into recovery. it goes past the htc sense screen, all black with a mobile with green arrows in a circle (like a sync) which eventually changed to a triangle with '!' in it.
what am i missing?
You can't delete recovery through windows explorer for the record.

sorry noob alert again: how do i do this?
Sounds like it has the stock recovery on it. Download the Cwm recovery and you should have a file called recovery.img. Place this file in the adb platform-tools folder. Go to that location in cmd prompt then type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img or you can find on xda via search one x all in one kit which if you download and open then put your phone in fastboot mode via bootloader will allow you to flash Cwm recovery and should do it for you

When you downloaded adb did you download the exe or zip version. If exe download zip version then extract it place the contents on your c drive then when using cmd use the cd commands to get to the correct folder.

ok, I have managed to boot a recovery (i think) and can now get into CWM, only problem now, is that my PC no longer recognises my phone in order for me to put any ROM files onto the SD card so that it can load them?
Yes Cwm does not support sd mount atm. I think you will need to refer to the post by someone saying relock bootloader and flash ruu. You will need to find and download the ruu that matches your device. ie network your on and country ur in. As I'm guessing you have deleted the rom image of the sd or nand backup?

Thanks all for your time - life savers. I have learnt to leave alone what I do not fully understand
I tried to root and install CM10 on my HTC One X (AT&T) (v2.20). However, I have run into trouble. Here is what happened:
Successfully rooted phone using Hasooon2000's All-in-one Kit
Flashed Recovery Successfully (I think) using the All-in-one Kit
I'm now able to boot into "TWRP" but I'm not really sure what to do next.

Yes, unfortunately.
Is the phone an evita or endevour? (quad core or dual core). What recovery did you flash? CWM or TWRP?
Try connecting the phone through usb and go to your adb folder and type in cmd: fastboot devices / fastboot list devices see if it is recognized.
Also try holding the power button and volume down button for 1 minute, it might reboot a few times and go back to the screen but I think it should jump back to your Hboot.

Thanks! Okay, I was able to get to TWRP but I'm not sure what to do next.
Well if you are in the recovery now make sure the rom you have downloaded is on your phone.
First open the rom.zip in your computer and take out the file called boot.img. Put this file in your fastboot folder.
Now boot your phone back into fastboot mode
then run this in cmd. "fastboot flast boot boot.img" from the folder your fastboot is located etc. if you are using the boot.img flasher from the rom make sure to put the boot.img there
It will send the boot.img to your phone and say if it is succesful.
Next boot back into your recovery and install the rom zip from inside the recovery.
wrong section, don't flash anything here..

Dont flash anything from here!
Thanks! This worked. I'm now running Jelly Bean -- way better than all that AT&T garbage!

This is for the people [myself earlier] who cannot boot into Android (bootloop or worse), have no download mode, no recovery and can only boot into Fastboot. Download the file below, I have included fastboot (for windows) and the appropriate files to flash, all you have to do is run the commands in order below, then boot into download mode.
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase aboot
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase laf
fastboot flash boot 6-boot.img
fastboot flash aboot 4-boot.img
fastboot flash recovery 10-recovery.img
fastboot flash laf 11-laf.img
fastboot reboot
It is best to use the CMD.exe file in the folder provided so you will already be running the commands from that folder without having to change directories. If you're on Linux then make sure you have Fastboot installed then run Terminal from the folder and run the same commands. This will restore the STOCK download mode and recovery partitions not TWRP or CWM.

How would one go about repairing a broken download mode when all I can do is boot into a broken recovery? I cannot issue any fastboot commands as the device is only recognized as an ADB Bridge device. Are there ADB equivalent commands to accomplish the same things as you have detailed here?

well you should never install any OTA with a custom recovery install. you should always keep at least one backup on your phone to restore to in these events. but i would try downloading a rom and installing via sideload before nuking any partitions. which is easy with TWRP. the sideload menu should be in Advanced then ADB Sideload and the command is adb sideload filename.zip and it will take awhile depending on the file size. make sure the file name is simple and it is placed in the folder you are running the sideload from.

Yes yes I know... it was a moment of weakness late at night and I didn't think before telling the girl to go ahead and upgrade. That being said... Part of the problem now is that the one backup she made just up and disappeared. The ADB sideload option just hangs and never actually does anything. The original Stock Rooted file I had still on the sd partition doesn't fix the issue when I flash it... it looks like it flashes ok but on the next boot it just drops me back into TWRP right where I began. And download mode is still borked.
So let's talk thermonuclear resolution on this motherlover.... where do I begin?

did you try vol+ and power together? When a functioning rom is installed it asks to do a factory reset but it may get into fastboot if you nuked that partition. i haven't tried this yet but if you're in adb sideload in twrp maybe the command

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaK5OxUeDKM
I have rooted my device using towel root which doesn't unlock the boot loader. I then used the twrp manager to install custom recovery. I am wondering how to restore everything back to factory as all the tutorials I have seen so far require an unlocked boot loader. Any help will be appreciated, thank you.

If I download a stock image from google and flash it from my nexus 7 using twrp will everything be restored to factory settings?
If the boot loader is locked does that mean I can just do a normal factory reset on the device and it will remove the recovery and root?
fastboot

you have to install stock ROM by adb mode using fastboot command
you can't flash stock ROM via custom recovery.

Would you mind finding a link for me ? I have never encountered this before as I have always unlocked the bootloader to root but this time I used towel root which was different as explained above.
Doesn't the boot loader have to be unlocked to flash a ROM via adb?
try this and press thanks

nope,
Step 1: Download the ADB/Fastboot files and the
USB drivers for Windows based PC first. The the
latest factory image for your Nexus device can be
downloaded directly from Google’s website .
ADB/Fastboot – Mac , Windows
USB drivers for Windows
Extract the contents of the ADB/Fastboot ZIP file
inside a new folder called ‘google’ on your desktop.
Extract and transfer the contents of the factory
image inside this folder as well. The list of files will
include a ZIP file containing the codename of your
Android device, two files with “flash-all” names, and
a bootloader image file. All the extracted contents of
the factory image should be inside the same folder
as the ADB and Fastboot file, otherwise you will get
a file not found error.
Make sure to install the ADB drivers as well if you
are running a Windows based PC.
Step 2: Now, reboot your Nexus device in bootloader
mode. This is usually done by switching off the
device, and pressing the Volume down + Volume Up
+ Power button simultaneously. If that does not
work, try the Volume down + Power button
combination.
After the device has booted into bootloader mode,
connect it to your PC.
Step 3: Open a new Terminal or Command Prompt
window, and navigate to the ‘google’ folder that you
created in Step 1. Before we start flashing the
factory image, we need to make sure that your
Nexus device is being detected by the PC.
fastboot devices
If you are using a Mac, then you need to prefix a “./”
before every Fastboot command. So, the above
command will look something like this on a Mac -:
./fastboot devices
The above command should confirm if your device is
indeed being detected by your PC or not. If it is,
then proceed to the steps below. If not, repeat the
steps above again. Make sure that you have properly
installed the drivers and are inside the correct
folder.
If you are running Windows, copy-paste the following
command in the command prompt window -:
flash-all.bat
On a Mac, copy-paste the following command -:
./flash-all.sh
The script will then automatically flash the full
factory image on your Nexus device. Once the
factory image has been flashed, your device will
automatically reboot. Keep in mind that the first boot
might take some time so please be patient.
If the flash-all.sh script gives you a fastboot not
found error on your Mac, open up the file in Text Edit
and add a “./” before every fastboot command.
The flash-all script included in the factory image
might not work for all. It has always been pretty
unreliable and has only worked once for me in the
last 2 years. If you are in the same boat as me, you
will have to flash each partition manually on your
device. This is slightly cumbersome though.
The command to manually flash a partition via
fastboot is “fastboot flash partition filename.img”. In
the factory image that you extracted in Step 1, you
will notice there is another ZIP file. Extract the
contents of that ZIP file inside the ‘google’ folder.
Now, its time to manually flash the partitions to your
Nexus device. We will first begin with the bootloader.
fastboot flash bootloader filename.img
Then, we will flash all other partitions. They don’t
necessarily need to be in the same order as I have
listed them below. The names of the image files in
the factory image will clearly indicate the partition
they are intended for as well.
fastboot flash boot filename.img
fastboot flash radio filename.img
fastboot flash recovery filename.img
fastboot flash userdata filename.img
fastboot flash system filename.img
Thank you very much I will try this today.
I couldn't flash all and when I flashed the bootloader it came up with failed bootloader is locked?
Enter this command to unlock the bootloader:
fastboot oem unlock
After unlocking, you can run flash-all.bat (or run manual fastboot commands to flash).
