Hi guys,
I've tried to look around for a solution but couldn't find anything really. Long short story, I received my s3 2 days ago ( SGH I747m from Virgin Mobile) I used the new microsim I had in, no problem so far, calls/network worked. I started to look around to root/flash my device. Somehow I messed it up and I started to not get any signals at all yesterday night. The whole day the signal was off as well. I finally flashed to CM10 but I still have no signals at all. I went to change the microsim card, it didn't change anything. Some people asked me to check the APN setting, it's checked under Bell (pda.bell.ca). Is there something I could flash back or do to fix this? Help is really appreciated.
Thank you.
Go to about phone in settings. Then click Satus and scroll down to the IMEI line. If its unknown or 0's then you have lost your IMEI number. But there is a fix.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801997
Is bell the apn you need for virgin Mobile? Try other apps possibly and like the dude above said check your imei, if it's missing you won't have service. There are imei recovery tools in development so your not SOL.

Just checked it, It's to 0, Ill try the fix. Thanks guys.
=S I'm lost there. Do I have to follow this
IMEI Injection:
If you have lost your IMEI and did not have a backup made this is how PureMotive and I were able to get his IMEI restored.
Open RF NV Item Manager from the Start Clients menu.
Click on Setting menu in RF NV Item Manager and select Comport.
Select your phone from the list of ports and click ok.
Go to File menu and select Read From Phone.
You will get a list of NV items and their values from your phone.
Look for item NV_UE_IMEI_I it will be item number 550 you can do a search for it using the search.
If you are unable to find it you will need to add it in
to do this go to Option => Customize NV Item List.
Then look for the item on the left and move it to the right.
Click OK now you should be able to find it.
NEVER ADD AN ITEM THAT YOU DO NOT KNOW THE CORRECT VALUE FOR YOU CAN DAMAGE YOUR PHONE IF YOU DO SO!
On the right you will see a set of 9 text boxes this is where your IMEI should be. If your IMEI is missing then you may not have any values in here at all.
Click the Hex Check Box. The Hex values for your IMEI will consist of no more than 2 characters per a box and must match your IMEI or it will not take the values you enter. The IMEI is also listed in a special order so you must follow this guide to ensure your IMEI is correct to the T!!!!!
The first box will always be an 8!
Example if your IMEI was: 954091051099226
then the boxes would look like so:
8
9a
45
90
1
15
90
29
62
Click on the button Write NV to write the values to your phone.
Once they have been written reboot your phone and check to see if your IMEI has been restored.
Remember to go back into the Hidden Menu and set your USB Settings back to MTP + ADB once you are done!!!!

or that
__________________________________________________ ______________________________________________
This custom app will create a QCN file that can be restored to your phone after you inject your IMEI back into your phone and find yourself with data connection issues. This is only used if you had lost your IMEI and did not have a backup created!!
What you will need to do:
Inject your IMEI back into your phone.
Create a QCN backup of your phone using QPST (see OP for instructions).
Download the app and install it.
Go to start menu, you will find app under DanX and run it.. (If there are any new updates the app will find it.)
Upload your QCN backup into the app.
Select a save location and create a save name.
Verify that your IMEI is correct.
Click IMEI Verified button.
Wait and the QCN should be generated.
Go to the location where you saved the QCN.
Go to QPST and restore file into your phone (see OP for instructions).
Manually reboot your phone.
If you have slow connection still but you're no longer on 2g reboot again.
If you still have slow connections after that consider flashing stock again through Odin and then pushing the generated file onto the phone.
If it still is not working respond to this thread.

Completely flash back to stock (verizon, no root) and see if it works then. If it does, go ahead root and do whatever you please. If not, its fully stock and unrooted, take it back to Verizon and they will (should) give you a replacement.
I'd suggest doing the RUU. That should get you 100% back to stock.

Did you do *228 option 2?
you could also do *2289
Edit:You may not need to go back completely stock but just flash a different rom. then do *2289

Cricket is just a rom that was made to work on a pre-paid network. The fact that it's installed means that you have a custom recovery already there. This is all you need to do:
1) Pick a rom from this development forum, that you want to install (Here's a good stock rom to start with:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765930&highlight=stock+ruu)
2) Download it and copy it to your SD card (Remember what folder you put it in)
3) Power off your phone. Hold the Volume down rocker and hold power at the same time until you see a white screen.
4) Wait a second for it to do its thing and use the volume down to choose "Recovery" and then hit the power button.
5) You should get to a "ClockworkMod" recovery screen or something similar
6) Choose "Wipe Data\Factory reset" (Use the trackpad to highlight it and click the trackpad to select it)
7) Select "Yes" and wait till it says its done
8) Choose "Install zip from sdcard"
9) Choose "choose zip from sdcard" and find the rom you downloaded and select it
10) Choose "Yes" and let it do its thing. When done, choose "reboot system now"
Voila! You won't need to do *228 or anything else. Just go through the setup wizard.
Good Luck!

On M.IP default profile what do you have? Specifically your DUN NAI, home address, and Primary HA Address. I'm really busy right now but can give you all those settings later this evening. Hold off on the password. Its something to do with HA Shared secret and AAA Shared secret.

Agreed with Keith. You need to change the EPST settings back to Verizon's settings or it will not work.
If you need the RUU you can find them here.

I'm stuck with the dwonload mode showing. No combination of button strokes or battery removals seems to change the screen. The PC cant see the phone anymore. The only thing I can think of to do is let the battery discharge or put another battery in. I could write to the external sd card for whatever help that could offer. I don't know where the internal sd card is, do you? Why there is an sd card and an external sd card? My PC sees the so-called sd card as "phone." I'm feeling totally discouraged and disenchanted.

If you have download mode, then you are only soft bricked. You will need to download one of these oneclicks to make things as simple as possible: http://goo.im/devs/billard412/d2spr/ODIN-ONE-CLICKS/LJ7_Jellybean
Attach phone to computer usb, make sure your still in download mode and make sure it says COM (some number). Go take a 10 minute break or so and it will be working again. THANKS TO billard412 for uploading those files
I did an OTA upgrade from ICE Stock 4.0.4 to stock JB 4.1.1.
After a day there was no mobile network available, though WIFI work. I tried other SIM but no network.
I see that IMEI, baseband etc. is coming as "unknown"
As all my efforts of factory reset, reboot etc failed, reflashing the latest images and going back to 4.0.4. etc.
But still no network.
In the phone settings
Basebad version : unknown
Network : Unknown
IEMI : unknown
Service state : Out of service/Radio off (keeps changing every 4-5 sec)
No idea what is happening.
I saw similar issues reported but not able to figure out how finally they solved it.
I dont have backup of efs folder as well
I tried with couple of Samsung Service Centres in Bangalore, India but they are not accepting the request as the phone was bought in US and also that Google/Samsung is not selling i9250 in India.
Any suggestions/help is appreciated.

Also having the same issue. Been researching and still haven't came up with a solution. Thread bump.

I got same issue, I unlocked a Canadian rogers i9250 with the DOCOMO unlock and haven't had original IMEI since, however when I plug it into ADB I see the original and I still see it on my box. I'd kinda like to fix it too, not sure what the pros or cons are.

Did you guys tried to fully wipe and go back to stock image? When I say full wipe it means using adb and applying a full reset. Try the toolkit on the dev forums if adb is not your cup of tea.

How do you "fully wipe with ADB"?
OP, check 'mount' output. Do you see /efs mounted at mount point /factory once fully booted?
When I say fully wipe is not using the recovery, but using the command terminal to flash the full Google factory image

Just a second! Your phone isn't exactly 'dead', have you gone to the sim toolkit to recognize said sim card or is this a Verizon model? Sorry using tapatalk so having to flip back and forth lol I would suggest trying another sim to make sure you're 100% unlocked.

Also double check APN settings as I'm sure you have heard of this multiple times. Also if you're comfortable with flashing, go for CyanogenMod maybe it will fix what you need as its the number 1 updated custom ROM. Its packed with a kernel that's updated as much as its ROM. Try wiping entire system and flashing via adb side load provided you know what I'm talking about and have a recovery that supports this ( I use TWRP)

Thank you for you reply. I'm not familiar with flash. But I can do following the guider……
Some days ago, I received an OTA update, I tried to install it. however, it failed. because I deleted some Google's apps. So I tried to update my NEXUS using factory image from Google over cable. It was successful. But two days later, I found my phone lost signal. And then I found baseband version unknown, and IMEI too. I did nothing with it except connecting to PC overnight. I tried to find out why and how to fix it. Someone said efs was corrupted. But I didn't backup it. Even I didn't know which folder was efs. factory? or in dev/
block/platform.....? or same? Now there are several files in factory, but no one file in data/radio as you shown in your reply. Now I don't know what to do..I dont want to use my Nexus as a player...

Apologize for my poor English

Sounds like my old problem actually heh, well unfortunately it seems you won't be able to recover your original IMEI because it at some point was rooted and unlocked with DoCoMo method (Like myself, you won't recover IMEI but connections will work!) What I suggest you do is download the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit by Wugfresh and flash stock 4.3 factory image. Then go from there. (Best for you because it will restore STOCK radio)
The reason your OTA didn't work is because the Google apps you have removed are linked to gapps (where the ROM went to update them but there is nothing to update) also because you're device was/is? Rooted.
I suggest the Wugfresh toolkit because it's especially useful for beginners.
I'll find the link shortly, just at work right now.
As for your English, I'm a Canadian and I can tell very clearly what it is your typing.
EDIT - here you go good sir and hopefully we can breathe life back into your amazing phone! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2208863
Those logs almost look as if a wrong radio was flashed, I could be wrong though if you haven't flashed before.
Let me know if there's anything else you need.
That's my first post on xda, I'm sorry for my English.
The problem is that i changed the GSM band to USA BAND in *#*#4636#*#*, then it cannot match chinese GSM band. Before I did this change, GSM has worked well and phone or SMS could work. Someone said that the same problem has been reported on Moto X, but esay to solve: erase modemst in fastboot. Or the same problem on Sony Xperia series, it needs flash radio.img.
NOW I HAVE TRIED THEM ALL, but still cannot work.
unlock and reset to factory data
double wipe in recovery
fastboot erase modemst1 ------failed, failure information is "REMOTE: not support to erase this partition"
flash factory image, both MDB08I and MDA89F
flash radio file
so...I think that i need the baseband file to flash, but such a new phone how can i find it?
OR maybe caused by same reason that TWRP cannot work before FORMAT but not wipe to unlock the secure partition?
------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE: QUESTION SOLVED
Thanks a lot to developers. bidomo gave a effective method on #10, and #31 may be helpful too.
At last, i tried to erase modemst1 and finally solved this problem, but it's so hard, it must through ADB to open the Linux file system immediately, find the modemst1 folder's location and delete it.
I did the same thing with my 5x a few days ago. I am so fed up looking for solutions that apparently do not exist. I have factory reset the phone. Flashed a few roms, flashed 3 different stock firmware versions and investigated a few toolkits to see if there are any interesting options that might help me out. Nothing.
Im in Croatia though. I bought the phone from Amazon.de and its a Dutch model. Everything was working great before I had a brain fart and changed the setting.
Im getting quite despondent about this.
Would love some input for me and the guy above.

So what exactly is the problem you are having with your phone?
Mark.
Firstly, thank you for the prompt reply to this issue.
As the first poster did, I changed my radio band to USA and have no applicable settings on my phone which will allow me to change back to my European band. So, as a result I am unable to use my phone. It reads, no service. To be exhaustive, I have obviously turned phone on and off, aeroplane mode, changed to a different sim card, factory reset, flashed radio.img files on top of stock rom, flashed all the firmwares available for this device over fastboot, flashed pure nexus rom to see if it might have an automatic or global mode for providers like i recall CM roms having a few years ago. All to no avail. So now I am standing in front of my laptop with my reflashed stock 5x, downloading my apps over a spotty 3g broadband connection, hoping that someone such as yourself will have a file, zip, or answer for me.

First thing to try is an app called Nexus 5 field test mode. Im not sure if it will let you do anything for the 5X but its worth a shot. You need to be rooted to use this app so you may want to do that first.
Mark.
Thanks for the reply. I will get to it later on today when I get some time. However obsessed Im being over this issue, I cant ignore my 2 year old like I did yesterday. I just wished to ask what would be the second, third thing I might do if this app does not work or help. Just so I can crack on with something else asap.
Again, I appreciate the help.
Marko
'This app is only for nexus 5'. The play store showed incompatibility but I went and downloaded an .apk anyway. Nothing. What next?
Thank you again for any interest in helping me rescue my phone. Like I said before, I can't just "take it back to the store" or anything like that.
Marko
Having read and read and read some more, it seems that the course of action is 'simply' to flash a new or rather original QCN file using QPST software. However....I need a European Nexus 5x QCN file and...well, knowledge on how to use the tool.
Marko
maybe somebody whith knowledge can find out the solution from the source code https://android.googlesource.com/pl....0_r26/src/com/android/settings/BandMode.java

Before both of you start editing and/or wiping your efs to cause more issues
I made a custom rom for nexus 5x which instead of querying the baseband for available band modes just displays all six band modes. I could not test it on a nexus 5x as I dont have the device, but for my nexus 5 it does work
When I set usa band I lose my signal, but when I select automatic band selection or euro band I get back my signal.

Wow. First of all, let me start of by saying THANK YOU VERY MUCH for showing an interest. Im going to download now and give it a try for sure. Im sorry that I did not reply to your prior post, I was just not in a sort my phone out mood in the last few days as I was more concerned with my daughters first few days of nursery.
I stated in another thread that I made a couple of days ago that I was going to send my phone back for a replacement which I did not think I would be able to do. But I still would rather see if your rom works to set back my bandmode instead. Rather than waiting weeks and keeping my fingers crossed so that a truly faulty unit does not make its way into my hands, if at all.
Again, even if this doesnt work, I really appreciate the help, not only as per your second post, but simply for your reply in the first instance.
Marko

I think I failed about extracting the proprietary files for nexus 6p from the system image. Sadly google still havent release the proprietary binaries for nexus 6p.
I will try to build a rom based on purenexus rom but I left home and will not come back until weekend. So you have to wait or build your own android by commenting out
if (size > 0) {
for (int i=1; i<size; i++) {item = new BandListItem(bands);
mBandListAdapter.add(item);
if (DBG) log("Add " + item.toString());
}

Hit the thanks button and Enjoy. Any problems let me and others here know. Dirty flash the updates NOT the initial flash of this rom but the updates to it. As of 9-3-18 i will be switching to Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic Beaver, that being said i do not know if i will have to change anything or do anything different to keep pushing these updates out but i will most definitely try to keep them coming.
Data and SIM fixed
Rom Zip = flash this https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=673956719939835046, Gapps, and SuperSU
after the rom has booted up install root browser and navigate to the the ROM zip, extract build.prop in system folder and replace the one in your new root/system folder with it and reboot your phone.
Update
4-17-18
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=746010030569969556 replace build.prop in root/system with the one in the ROM zips system/build.prop after boot then reboot
4-24-18
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=673956719939836755
its got root built in but, If you are updating and already had supersu then you will have to flash the supersu zip anyways or it will say the binary is occupied. If you are not updating all you need is to install the supersu.apk . Data and SIM is working. After the rom boots up and you have root and a root browser replace the phones system/build.prop with the one in this zips system/build.prop and reboot. follow this process if there are any future updates.

Yeah thanks, been running NJ2 for a long time. I'll look into some things soon.
Has anyone tried the settings/system profiles/default/settings I noticed that the default configuration is not setup so either turning system profiles off or configuring them accordingly may help. I've flash this and still nothing. If you look closely into the settings, I've manage to have a signal because I revert back to OCT N OS. Because I need to copy the lib-sec.ro from the working ROM and paste it to the Linage OS.

I have been up for days trying to figure out this problem. I believe I have found the solution, as i do not have a SIM i cant fully test but i did get the Rom to recognize the efs information. This is the process:
Rom Zip = flash this https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=673956719939835046, Gapps, and SuperSU
after the rom has booted up install root browser and navigate to the the ROM zip, extract build.prop in system folder and replace the one in your new root/system folder with it and reboot your phone.
I did all that and included a screenshot in the previous post
please let me know how it worked for you you may still need to disable system profiles and work with the settings after the sim is recognized

First install the Rom from the first post in the thread 4-13-18
Second install the GAPPS and SuperSU
Third install root browser navigate to root/system/build.prop and copy it onto your sdcard

Fifth after the rom has booted up open root browser navigate to the place where you copied the build.prop to and replace the one in your new root/system with it and reboot your phone. If sim still is not recognized flash the second links ROM zip and continue with the instructions.

You could just install one of the ROMs in the solution post and extract the build.prop from the zip and paste it in the root/system folder it would save a lot of time but I wanted to be thorough
