Is there a way to do this? I read that in the UK, Samsung have a software available to do just that, but I don't think that is accessible from North America. Does anyone here know of a different way?

You can download a software called Backuptrans iPhone SMS to Android Transfer to help. It lets you do the transfer on computer directly.
Best luck!
This is the method I used.

I did that as well and while the process went well, the default SMS app was less than thrilled that I added 10,000 messages to it.
Had to manually delete the database to get it working again.
I did it in a local RadioShack store the have a machine calle "cellebrite" and transfered all the stuff I had on a old iPhone for free.
Sent from GS3 and Puerto Rico Ñetaaaah...

Was it a seamless transfer? Basically after you transferred the SMS from your iPhone to your Android device, did the SMS on your Android device appeared like as if it was sent and or received from the Android device?

The fact is it will take a very long time to refresh 10,000 messages on Android by the Messaging app. Your Android will run slowly when messages refreshing. You should split your iPhone messages into small parts for transferring. 1,000 messages in a part may work fine.
As you have transferred 10, 000 messages to your android. You can simply use Handcent on your Android and then disable default Android Messaging. To disable Messaging, click System Settings => Apps => Messaging => Disable. Check the attachment.
Hope this can help.

Yep, I could do all of that, but in the end I decided that I really did not care about the messages enough to jump through hoops. Getting them out of the iPhone backup and into the importable file was enough for me, now I have them somewhere and can access them if need be.

No, because it exports all the messages to an XML file.
encrypted error
Hey all, sorry to dig this thread up.
I got my new S3 today and have been going about transferring everything over, so far so good except for my mms messages. I have followed the instructions here but run into the same problem both times. It seems my sms file pulled from itunes is encrypted somehow. I get an error message "file is encrypted or is not an sms backup file" or something to that degree. I tried the online upload which returned the same encrypted error.
Has anyone else run into this? Thanks.

Do you setup encrypt iPhone backup in the iTunes for your iPhone? If yes, please uncheck the "encrypt iphone backup" from your iPhone and try again. To do this:
Step 1: Plug your iPhone into your computer via a USB cable. If iTunes does not automatically open, manually open it.
Step 2: If your device automatically begins to sync, allow it to do so. If it doesn't, continue to the next step.
Step 3: Click on your iPhone in the sidebar on the left in iTunes. Make sure you are on the "Summary" section.
Step 4: Uncheck the "encrypt iphone backup" option.
Done!
Hope this can help.
What plan are you on, most come with loads of or unlimited text bundles. Use a spare Sim and just forward them all to your new phone.
You may read the guide below, it helps you in transferring SMS from iPhone to Android.

I used PIM backup to load all my texts from my previous phone (about 13,000 total)
Whenever I slide to the Messages tab it literally takes 10 seconds just to load the 25 messages in TF3D. If I click view all it glitches out and takes almost a minute to load the entire all messages screen.
What the hell? Isn't this device supposed to be FASTER than my original AT&T Tilt?! It had no problem loading messages like this.
My device is nearly unusable as a messaging device. Any suggestions?
Very dissapointed.

Not to sound sarcastic in any way, but maybe if you didn't have 13,000 text messages it may run a bit faster.
Was it running that slow prior to the transfer?
agreed, what purpose could you possibly have for keeping that many text messages around?! thats most likely your issue
Even so - my Tilt original was able to handle it is the point.
I keep all my texts I've ever sent - does anyone have a better method of backing up all messages online or something rather than keeping them all on the phone?
Ugh...
Now I keep getting filesys.exe errors.
**** this.
There is no way of viewing all messages? I can only delete about 200 at a time now. I hate this phone.
It MIGHT have something to do with the version and build of windows mobile...
I've had a handful of backup problems when flashing to different ROM, even when I just wanted to restore sms and/or calendar.
I decided to forget about sms, since I rarely found myself needing somehting from even a month ago. Calendar is now part of exchange, so no worries there.
Try Jeyo Mobile Extender to backup your SMS to Outlook. It just doesn't do MMS so make sure to move those to a different folder.
try pocket sms.... with this, you can easyly export your sms to an excel file.

Does anyone now a way to retain exif data information from mms pics that are received. It seems whenever I save a pic all the exif data gets wiped, lol I remember when I had a tmobile dash (windows Mobile) it gave you the exif data flawlessly. And now Im on my third android and it seems that the exif information does not get included when I get pics from mms, anyone know any codes or anything inyo term emu to enable this feature,
Thanks
You could ask people to gmail them to you instead of MMS, I assume it wont be converted in.anyway.

good idea,im going to try that now I remember someone sent a pic to me from an ipod before lol.
I don't remember what phone it was (might have been the Samsung Moment) but the cooked ROMs had MMS broken for a while. Gmail is great cause it will stay in your mailbox for as long as you want instead of your phone, even when you switch carriers, phones or ROMs.

sounds good to me,I wonder if such a thing is possible
Anyone? Or no one else is interested
I'm pretty sure there isn't a script you could use for this. It's really going to depend on the senders phone. Some phones will compress the image, reformat it, remove 'junk' information such as exif when sending an MMS. Sometimes it's the carriers servers that remove exif. Other times it's the recipients phone.
The thing is, Android has a MAJOR flaw. MMS
Unless you have devs that remove or minimize compression from the stock app (or you use Handcent or Go! SMS) there's nothing that can be done. Android horribly compresses pictures and videos. a 1MB picture can be cut to 5kB or less. I remember my Blackberry 8900... on EDGE no less... would send a 3MB pictures through MMS with no issues. I even think the exif data was retained when I received them, assuming the sender or carrier didn't strip that info. Those were the days...

For the issue of exif data not being sent with mms pictures - or being received that will not help.
What that's about is the person is using a call used to access the camera in another app that they're developing. The issue is that it doesn't by default save any exif data. That's a different code. For him/her the issue isn't not being able to access exif data from a picture - it's the fact that it's not saving to begin with.
Now, in the mms app there may be a line telling it to remove all non essential data from a picture before sending. However, even if you allow the information to be retained odds are it will only work on your end - not the receivers. Same goes for them if they send a picture. Then again - carriers may just as well block exif data for safety reasons. A lot of people unknowingly have geotagging activated. I'm sure you can see how that could be very bad in some situations.
I'm looking for an app to automatically and securely wipe previusly deleted data from my phone. Preferably when its idle and sitting in the background.
When I get rid of my phone, I don't want anyone to be able to recover my sensitive data such as my emails, and my text messages. It could be a little embarassing.
I've tried SHREDroid for the Sprint Galaxy Nexus but it crashes everytime I start it. Does anyone know of other available options?
The difficulty for someone to recover your old files (if even possible) is not worth the time.. You really shouldn't worry because your emails are gone when you remove your account, and if you delete a text it is gone. I think the only thing you have to worry about is your Google login data, and even that is more trouble than it's worth to recover (unless someone really hates you) and even then 99% of potential buyers probably don't even know it is possible (or care).
I'm not sure this is entirely true. Here's my example: I have a Verizon HTC Thunderbolt that I have been using since Dec '11. I wanted to make a back up of my text messages, so that I could restore them to me new phone.
I downloaded an SMS backup from the Play market, entered my gmail credentials to store my SMS and when I checked the next morning, I had over +8000 backed up SMS messages. I was curious, and looked through to see what was somehow restored. I have routinely kept my text inbox tidy because it feels slower when one thread has over 2000 messages.
This is what prompted me to search for an answer.

What does the exact message say when you try to send it?
Have you called your phone network yet to see if its a problem on their end?

but i have never had luck with any cell phone tech support, so decided to come here first.

I had an issue with sending an MMS the other day, didn't get an error message though just wouldn't send. It turned out to be adblock plus. So if she has an adblocker on her phone try deleting it and restarting the phone.

One possibility is to remove the secmms.apk reboot and then pull it from the zip and push it to system again, fix permissions, wipe cache, reboot. Maybe that will clear any lingering issues.

Need a little over a year and so is it right for me to I suppose people who get this error just can't send mms anymore, unless reverting with Odin to a completely stock ROM? Haha
Here's what worked for me. Have a Xiomi Redmi Note 3 Pro running latest MIUI developer ROM 7.3.23 and Android 6.0.1 on Rogers network in Canada
Couldnt figure out why I was getting this message only on this phone. My other phones with same SIM card had no issues (Sony Xperia Z Ultra, HTC M8).
Was about to do a factory reset when I came upon an old post. I
1) download the app "History Eraser" from the Play Store
2) open the app and make sure "clear all apps cache" box is CHECKED
3) next, scroll down SMS/MMS section and check boxes "SMS/MMS Draft" and "Failed SMS/MMS"
should delete any messages/other stuff you don't need and is clogging up your system.
Am able to send pics once more using the Xiomi. Good luck!
yep that was the fix for me.
Btw, 3rd party apps wont work on my Xiaomi phone to replace the existing messaging app for SMS and MMS. When I used Facebook messenger I could not send MMS and when I reverted back to the xiaomi messaging app all those attempted to send MMS in facebook messenger were put into the messaging app and I had to go through all my contacts and delete the MMS as they said 'Sending'. Once I removed all the MMS that had not sent it then worked properly again. What a PITA! if your messages aren't that important just delete every chat in your messaging app also works.
Saved me!

Hi all,
I have a very annoying bug going on with my stock messaging application. When I go back into my messages I see the date and time stamp but as I scroll up none of the messages have a date and time stamp. This is a big problem for me right now as clients sometimes message me and I have no dates to reference. My phone storage has been low on the phone but I have been keeping some space by clearing it out.
Regardless does anyone know what the cause could be here? I have some really old messages and they are showing no dates.

From my experience, when HTC messenger is broken, I uninstall any App updates and presto. Good as new.
Thanks for the reply, so the application has no updates that I see on play store. So you are saying you uninstall it, don't your messages disappear when you reinstall it? Don't know if the application is even on play store for reinstall.

If you're worried about the messages, use a back up service like Gcloud or similar, but backing up only the messages. But you can't uninstall it unless you you're rooted and yes it's In the play store. But you might want to abandon backing up messages all to together and just email the important ones to your PC.
Just uninstall the app updates already. Lol
